COASTAL I CONTEMPORARY I TRANSITIONAL I TRADITIONAL Transitional Design Style- Curves normally attributed to traditional design combine with contemporary straight lines in a transitional style interior to deliver a look that balances both masculine and feminine attributes. The result is a comfortable and relaxing, uncomplicated design. A lack of ornamentation and decoration with minimal accessories keeps the focus on the simplicity and sophistication of the design "classic with a contemporary twist".

PUBLISHER’S LETTER Southwest Florida has become a year-round real estate market. According to the MLS, more than twice as many homes in the $1M+ price range sold May through December than January through April. Although the restaurants, hotels, and tourist attractions are much busier during ‘season’, homes are being bought all year round. Add to that all the locals who wait until now to start their home improvement projects and there is a strong market for quality home product and service providers all year. Each issue of Home & Design is designed to bring you both. This year’s Signature Home, on page 52, was an exciting collaboration between celebrity interior designer and author Thom Felicia and the local firms International Design Source, Cinnabar Design, MHK Architecture & Planning, and Waterside Builders. It features much of Thom’s signature furniture, fabrics, accessories, and art. In addition to our usual selection of inspiring homes, we have a dramatic before-and-after of interior designer Mercedes Courland’s personal home on page 260. We plan to bring you before-and-after projects each issue so you can see these fantastic transformations first hand. It was our privilege to be the media sponsor for the renovation of the Ronald McDonald House in Fort Myers. Spearheaded by Suzanne Costa of Suzanne Costa Interiors, a cadre of very talented designers and tradespeople donated their talent, time, and resources to create a beautiful sanctuary for families in their greatest time of need. The final project is featured on page 318. Talented and generous people like these are just one more reason Southwest Florida is the greatest place on earth.

To create a home that shows the future of design — that was the vision behind the 2016 Signature Home. A collaborative effort on the part of both local and national industry leaders, they were able to meld local tastes and national trends creating a universally loved home. To blend local and national tastes, Naples-based interior designers Laurie Walter and Diana Hall of Cinnabar Design worked with nationally known interior designer Thom Filicia, whose collection is featured almost exclusively throughout the home. “This was such an interesting opportunity for us as we made a commitment to channeling Thom’s design style and adapt it to the local market,” explains Walter. After she and Hall met Filicia at High Point, they felt that his style and furniture would work well in the project Emilio Sadez, President of International Design Source, was in the process of conceptualizing — the design for this year’s Signature Home.

Previous page: As you enter the home, a signature piece in the Thom Filicia collection sets the stage for the rest of the design. In the spirit of innovation combined with local tastes, the Copake Eagle Console Table is finished in a custom Benjamin Moore color, ‘Gemstone’. The entry way leads into the great room where a comfortable seating arrangement flanks two sculptural cocktail tables with Persian Grey marble tops, another Thom Filicia signature look Walter and Hall incorporated into the home. Accent pillows in Conifer Modern fabric add a pop of key lime to the room. “When we design a house we always think about who will be living there. We envisioned this home as a take on ‘the Hamptons in Naples,’ were a well-traveled family could relax and restore themselves,” explain Hall and Walter. With that in mind, the built-ins were created to be a focal point but also as a place for their collections acquired both locally and abroad. The media cabinet is covered with Kravet fabric from the Thom Filicia Home Collection. The light flooring, reminiscent of the sand a few blocks away, anchors the space. Filicia also wanted to create a space that focused on livability explaining, “The aesthetic of this home is less about having a ‘coastal’ feel and more about being true to its lifestyle and sense of place. The home feels authentic to its architecture, its location and the point of view of the people that would live here.”

Taj Mahal quartzite from Coastal Stone is installed in a modified waterfall, creating an island that glows as the light from multiple windows shines through. The four bar stools in a fun papaya striped pattern mirror the four individual pendent lights with Edison Bulbs that read as one fixture, providing a retro nautical look to the modern kitchen. Crisp white cabinets by Ruffino Cabinetry hide appliances and provide plenty of storage space. The glass tile backsplash in soft gray ‘Fog’ is from Glazzio Tiles. The home is fully equipped with high-end appliances from Monark Appliances.

The dining room is placed between the kitchen and great room creating a phenomenal flow for entertaining. The design allows guests to move freely through the main spaces of the home. The table with cerused finish ties into the other driftwood tones found throughout. The print on the host chairs ties into the chartreuse color of the four side chairs. A set of cabinets extends the size of the kitchen, providing more storage. Ceiling details give a nod to the coastal setting of the home.

Another hair-on hide rug sits beneath the bed, and the metallic finish adds glamor to the natural feel and matches the stylized chrome shade on the light fixture above. The seamless flow from the inside to the outdoor areas enhances the entertaining possibilities. In the main seating area just off the great room, four club chairs surround a faux stump table. The colors of a Thom Filicia Home Collection rug are pulled out through throw pillows, the accent tables, and accessories.

COASTAL chic

A UNIQUE TAKE ON CLASSIC DESIGN

HOME & DESIGN 2016 V2

79

T

To create a sophisticated coastal dream home with a tropical flair was the intention of both Matt Knauf, owner and general contractor with KnaufKoenig Group, and architect Falconer Jones of Falcon Design when they teamed up to work on this beauty of a home nestled on a quiet street in the heart of Pelican Bay. “We chose this lot because of its generous size, fantastic location, and southern exposure. It has a gorgeous backyard that opens up to create a spacious and private outdoor oasis. The difficulty was the cul de sac, our challenge was to design a home with fantastic curb appeal that maximizes the less than generous front yard space,” Knauf explains. To make the most of the lot, the team designed a unique floor plan that was both comfortable and luxurious. They wanted to come up with a fresh take on the popular coastal look. Their objective was to design an amazing home with every detail well thought out and executed with the highest quality craftsmanship. The result? An expansive 4,864 square foot, open concept, coastal dream home with soaring ceilings, enormous windows, beautiful millwork, and wide plank European oak floors – and almost 2,000 square feet of additional outdoor living space.

The furnishings for the home were selected in collaboration between Calusa Bay Design and Hayes Elkins Design. “The great room furnishings are both functional and sophisticated, starting with an appealing neutral color palate, with the addition of a soothing and complimentary pop of color — in this case, a beautiful aqua blue,” says Tatum Johansson, Design Coordinator for Calusa Bay Design. The great room emits a chic and classic style with twin Chesterfield sofas by Century, and six bunching cocktail tables fit perfectly in between. Oversized end tables by Vanguard hold classically styled ceramic table lamps from Wilson Lighting. A perfect pair of casual, classic modified wing chairs by Vanguard finish the seating area. Glass boxes, a few coffee table books, and a pair of tall eglomise candlesticks provide the perfect finishing touches. “What makes this room so appealing is the openness to the outdoor living space provided via a spectacular wall of glass in the form of triple French doors with double transoms above,” explains Leslie Sherman, owner of Calusa Bay Design and Partner at Calusa Bay Properties. Other notable features include the intricate trim work on the box beams and tongue-and-groove ceiling detail, courtesy of Knauf-Koenig Group’s renowned expertise in trim carpentry detail. The design team chose a European oak floor from Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring, which creates the perfect foundation for a timeless, sophisticated look.

Above: The dining room feels cozy and private though still united with the rest of the home through color and texture. Anchoring the dining room furniture grouping is the custom built-in wet bar by Ruffino Cabinetry in a driftwood finish. Wanting the wet bar to be the central focus of the room, the team chose a simple, light wood, trestle style dining table from Century Furniture. A pair of skirted, linen wing host chairs, also from Century, pair perfectly with the stylish upholstered side chairs from Vanguard, and two elegant chandeliers from Currey & Company in a champagne finish from Wilson Lighting. A thick wool rug in a soft gray-green hue completes the look. Opposite: The kitchen in this home is the cornerstone of the floor plan, creating open sight lines to the pool and outdoor living areas. Complementary finishes and beautiful design are everywhere you look, from the two-inch mitered Sea Pearl quartzite used as the island countertop to the Alabaster white and driftwood-colored floor to ceiling cabinetry by Ruffino Custom Cabinetry. Matt and Gisela Knauf were very much involved in the kitchen design process, selecting details like the wood slatted hood with stainless steel straps which quickly became a favorite feature in this well-appointed kitchen. Completing the sophisticated look are Vanguard Furniture’s barstools and the chandelier by Currey & Company, which add a simplistic and feminine edge. Appliances by Ferguson complete the kitchen.

Above: “The master bathroom is my favorite room in the house,” says Knauf, and it’s easy to see why he loves it so much. Knauf and Calusa Bay Design were able to create a sophisticated spa-like feel through the use of color, glass, and stone. The focal point of the room is the oversized cast iron freestanding bathtub by Kohler, glazed in a white finish. Opposite: The master bedroom is graceful and serene in style, filled with soft colors and a calming touch of blue. It overlooks the home’s lushly landscaped and private backyard oasis, feeling like a tropical retreat. “We tried to make the windows as large as possible in every bedroom,” adds Knauf. “Natural light is an important component of the overall design of this home.” The simple but striking four-poster king bed from Bernhardt Furniture is complemented by oversized chests and an upholstered champagne silk chaise from Century and a bench from Dovetail Furniture. The touches of color are subtle in the master bedroom, created by artful floral choices and linens by Legacy Home with accent pillows in fabrics by Robert Allen Designs. The old-world chandelier by Currey & Company adds a touch of simple charm to this sophisticated room.

Viewing the home from beyond the pool, the exceptional design by all involved with the project becomes even more stunning. The 40-foot pool is lined with palm trees from Doria’s Landscaping and has a stepping stone detail for both form and function. The jewel toned water and fire bowl accents complement the natural wood soffit and trim details of the home’s exterior while adding ambiance. “Prospective buyers responded very positively to this home, so much so that we sold it before it ever hit the market,” advises Taber Tagliasacchi, Listing Broker and Partner with Calusa Bay Properties. “The master bathroom, outdoor living, and overall style and quality of the home were all key selling points.” Clearly this talented team has found their niche in the new construction home market with this inviting, well thought out and beautifully appointed coastal chic retreat.

Like a beautiful jewel, this grand home shines brightly against the night sky. Designed by John Cooney of Stofft Cooney Architects, and built by Greg Seligman of G.E.S. Construction, this 7,558-square-foot home with VIP suite and second floor lounge is the perfect place to entertain. “The Southwest Florida market is calling for a more contemporary, modern type of architecture and that was our goal in designing this spec home,” says John Cooney of Stofft Cooney Architects. “G.E.S. Construction allowed us to think outside the box and gave us the latitude we needed to create neat elements and clean details.” “We’ve had a tremendously positive response from everyone who has visited this home,” says Dan Guenther, Broker Associate for Estuary at Grey Oaks at Premier Sotheby’s International Realty. “The Biscayne’s detailed craftsmanship, clean lines and indoor/outdoor design creates an uplifting, airy feeling that whoever buys this house will get to experience on a daily basis.” Interior designer Sharon M. Gilkey of Montanna Design envisioned a couple whose adult children are often the guests at one of their lavish galas and who wanted their home to be light and casually elegant. “I wanted to create an atmosphere of serenity — a place to relax,” says Gilkey. “It was a joy to design such a soothing, beautiful environment as part of the team of such talented craftsmen.”

The clever arrangement of seating in the great room allows for several simultaneous conversations near the granitefronted fireplace, set in a walnut paneled wall. Four bucket chairs in the foreground are covered in a textured cotton and grouped around a metal-banded circular stone coffee table. The twin sofas and armchairs in the background are by Bernhardt and are upholstered in ivory texturized cotton. Periwinkle blue area rugs draw the two spaces together into one elegant entertaining space.

Most areas of the home open to the majestic lanai and classical mosaic-tiled pool area. With landscape architecture that follows the lines of the house and 90-degree coping angles used in the design, a minimalist approach defines the outdoor space. An outdoor living room allows for comfortable seating by way of a sectional, upholstered in ‘Weathered Stone’ by Sunbrella, and a washed oak table from Brown Jordan. Dining al fresco is easy thanks to the complete outdoor kitchen, featuring Sub-Zero appliances. A fountain, fire pit, and floating spa complete the attractions and visitors may enjoy the view from the overhanging second-story balcony.

“The homeowners came to the project with a specific interest in landscaping and gardening,” says Herscoe. “Our job was to provide them with the adequate spaces and backdrop so they could evolve their landscaping over the years.” To start out, the architects planned for lush native plants to add a tropical feel. The home’s front door is tucked behind the plants in the courtyard, and the roof is a GALV-ALUM metal.

CARIBBEAN CHARM MEETS OLD FLORIDA STYLE

HOME & DESIGN 2016 V2

T

Tucked just off the street and backing up to a canal, this Naples home gives a nod to Old Florida style with a hint of Caribbean flair evolved to meet modern needs. “Think of it as an Old Florida home that went off to college and came back a more sophisticated version,” says Rob Herscoe, managing partner at Herscoe Hajjar Architects who designed the house. The 5,000-square-foot home is intentionally planned with understated elegance. “The homeowners wanted to create a space that had a sense of humility from a distance,” Herscoe says. This sensibility comes from the architecture which tucks the front door into a private courtyard, to the lush native plants offering seclusion, and then extends the simplicity of the home’s decor. The homeowners worked hands-on with the builder and architects to create a truly beautiful space. Mike Nourse, president of Nourse Building Company Inc., says, “The homeowners obtained elmwood flooring reclaimed from Japanese temples. The prefinished floor was one of a kind; it even had gouges and filled-in square peg notches.” While the home is filled with traditional Florida charm, the homeowner collaborated with Herscoe who had traveled to the Caribbean. “You can see those touches throughout the space,” adds Nourse. He notes the heavily vegetated landscaping, the tabby shell finish on the fireplace, the X-style transom windows, and vaulted post-and-beam ceilings throughout. “In the creative process, the interior details were worked out specifically with the homeowners’ functional requirements,” Herscoe says. Throughout the home’s interior, clean lines, bright open spaces, and simple materials manifest the feel of a laid-back retreat. Rooms sport casual, yet tailored furnishings while the large outdoor spaces — from porches, the courtyard, and lanai — afford beautiful views, fresh air, and plenty of light.

Most of the home’s rooms afford views of the canal out back. The architects designed four-foot by ten-foot sliding doors that fully pocket so the living room can open to the outdoors. One of the most significant features that anchors the home is in the great room. The unique free-standing sculptural fireplace element is the room’s focal point. The mantel is wood and the fireplace surround is made with a tabby shell application, which involves a stucco and masonry mix to which shells are embedded. “The homeowner also added on specialty shells like scallops, starfish, and sand dollars,” says Nourse. The fireplace is a lava rock Earthcore Isokern model.

Located off the dining room, the lanai offers the perfect outdoor gathering space. Weatherproof outdoor furniture coupled with Sunbrella all-weather cushions stand up to salt and moisture. The wet bar area features a sink, fridge with ice maker, wine cooler, and barbecue grill. A privacy shade backs the bar. “The back of the house faces west, and we installed the shade, along with awnings, to make sunsets outside more comfortable, says Nourse. The mahogany doors outside were custom-made in Georgia, and, like the fireplace, the bar features the tabby shell design.

GEARY DESIGN This dining alcove was carved into a bay window overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. In this small apartment, kitchen storage was extended into the space and made to look like a wood paneled wall. The bench seat and backrest were fabricated to become part of the architecture. A custom boat-shaped table of perforated stainless steel with a custom shaped glass was created to fit the space. The soffit was extended to accommodate the light fixture that was selected to minimize obstruction of the view. The chairs were chosen for the transparency and sculptural qualities. Materials were selected that would emphasize warmth and contrast. Courtesy of Geary Design, www.gearydesign.com.

Understanding the limitations and care concerns of natural stone, but desiring the upscale look of marble, companies like Neolith are offering a perfect alternative. Man-made of natural materials, Neolith’s Estatuario from the Classtone collection provides the upscale look of marble without the maintenance concerns. Estatuario offers a completely linear pattern. Unlike natural marble where working with multiple slabs makes it nearly impossible to match veining, using ‘end-matched’ pieces, the pattern can be continuous as seen on this waterfall island top. Starting as a spec home in Fiddler’s Creek, the goal for the unfurnished residence built by Stock Construction was to enhance the interior with rich character and depth, creating an interior with a new take on traditional decor. “I am proud that we were able to successfully marry the existing finishes in the home to the client’s vision for an outcome that illustrates the allure of timeless elegance,” says interior designer Chrissy Howard of Jinx McDonald Interior Designs, Inc. “It is a piece of livable luxury.” With the much needed help of Associate Barbara Dale of Jinx McDonald Interior Designs, Howard was able to bring this treasure to life. Chic and comfortably dramatic, each room serves as a complement to the owners. “The

profound connection to the clients. They trusted and allowed us to create, on a very high level, an interior custom tailored to them,” says Howard. While

unfurnished, the flooring, cabinetry, and countertops were all produced by Stock Development. “The Victoria Grande was a custom home designed by Alberto Abad for Stock Signature Homes, and reflects our commitment to great design that provides a pallet for our clients to customize,” says Claudine Leger-Wetzel, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Stock Development. The model comes complete with pool cabana and outdoor kitchen. From top to bottom, the exterior of the home is impressive with concrete roof tiles and brick paver drive and walkways. Decorative iron doors and exterior designer lights are complemented by tall palm trees and well-kept planters creating a beautiful green space at the front of the home. 164

Opposite: Charm and romanticism rule supreme in the tasteful master suite. Described by Howard as a sanctuary, the palette presented here is mineral blue and greige. The accompanying button-tufted upholstered bed is flanked by custom-painted nightstands overlaid in just the right shade of blue. Pieces such as the mirrored double dresser, the polished chrome and glass lamps, and the lightly antique mirrored chandelier invite glamour and style into this space. The addition of nearby chairs and table contribute to the relaxing mood. Howard notes that the fabric used for the drapery is an embroidered floral in pewter, with ebony and a smoky blue.

Clean lines and warm island inspired wood give this home a modern yet tropical identity. The landscape design combines just the right amount of scale, texture, and color to further enhance the home’s architecture. Conveniently located in downtown Naples, this home is just five blocks from the beach and two blocks from the shopping and dining on 3rd Street. The creators of this tropical oasis is custom homebuilder Sullivan Brothers and interior designer Old Naples Design. Their main objective was to produce a fresh, contemporary home that married a warm coastal feel with clean lines. The end result is an inviting space with a Zen feel. “We have had a wonderful response to the home so far. People love the well thought out floor plan, the custom ceiling details, and the artistic décor,” explains Daniel Sullivan, who grew up in a family of engineers, craftsmen, and artists. “The open floor plan and natural flow lends itself to the convenience of downtown living.” The home is 3,402 square feet and boasts a main floor master enclave, as well as a second-floor master suite, totaling four bedrooms and four-anda-half baths. No expense was spared on the custom woodworking, tongue-and-groove ceiling, cabinetry, and overall attention to detail. “Daniel had a very clear vision of what he wanted the house to reflect. As soon as you open the doors the space needed to embrace and welcome everyone”, describes Johanne Marie-Claude Vincent, Principal of Old Naples Design. “Working with Daniel and the Sullivan Brothers team was such a great experience.” Vincent brought the vision to life by balancing cool contemporary elements with organic natural wood tones.

The sleek lines of the living room furniture from J Mark Modern Home, like the very contemporary white sofa, the mid-century console, and contrasting American-made white and dark wood chairs by Robb & Stucky, come together to invite you to gatherings and conversation. “In the living room we played with textures and natural colors to give that mid-century modern meets coastal feel,” states Vincent. Almost all of the lighting in the home is LED. Compared to old traditional incandescent and fluorescent lighting, LEDs offer low maintenance, durable, super energy efficiency, a wide variety of brightness and degrees of warmth. The floating aura chandelier is the final touch, making a statement while maintaining a simple and unobstructed charm.

Above: The centerpiece of the dining area is the chandelier, reminiscent of rising champagne bubbles within a glass. This LED light fixture makes a cool statement, especially paired with the modern yet warm oversized artwork. Once again blending cool contemporary elements with warm organic tones, a one-of-a-kind petrified wood dining table is flanked by modern chrome accented Bob William & Mitchell Gold chairs from Robb & Stucky. This unique arrangement welcomes all to great meals and good times. Opposite: The kitchen by Design Studio by Raymond features a dramatic marble backsplash that extends all the way to the ceiling, expertly installed by Bill Brisk and Sigi Grossman of Alpha Stone Designs. Modern teak bar stools and simple pendants over the island keep with the theme of balancing contemporary and organic forms. The well-appointed kitchen includes the finest appliances from Monark Premium Appliances, including the Wolf Dual Fuel Professional sixburner gas range with double convection ovens and an infrared griddle. The 42-inch Sub-Zero side-by-side refrigerator with ice maker and chilled water dispenser, Miele built-in coffee system, Miele built-in microwave, Bosch Benchmark series dishwasher, and the 48-inch Miele DĂŠcor wall chimney complete the open kitchen. The large island in a natural white Carrara marble creates an incredible work area or a beautifully casual dining space.

This innovative composite of white marble, glass, and porcelain gives the beauty of super-white Thassos marble without the maintenance and inconsistency of natural stone. Opposite: The master suite was designed to embrace the magnificent view. Vincent kept the palette soft and played with textures and mixed materials that invite comfort and peaceful rest. The tufted headboard is paired with nightstands featuring mirror inserts. The windows in the master bedroom are arranged in a contemporary configuration, creating a striking architectural feature which allows natural light to fill the space.

because of the distance to the beach, shopping, and dining, but also because of the southwestern exposure and abundance of sunlight all year round. “There are many lots in Old Naples with southern exposure, but not all of them provide the level of sunlight and illumination that I look for when building a home,” explains Sullivan.

An outdoor kitchen with gas range and refrigerator make the lanai perfect for entertaining. Romeo and Juliet balconies with contemporary railings overlooking the pool add architectural interest. When a prominent builder constructs his own family’s house, you can guarantee it will be something special, and this spectacular home in Old Naples does not disappoint. Designed by architect Matthew Kragh of MHK Architecture & Planning, the 4,100 square foot family home built by Waterside Builders features five bedrooms and seven baths with a detached guest wing. “Our team has been dubbed by locals as the builders who are creating the ‘new Old Naples’,” says Kragh. “This house is a perfect example of that. It represents a new way of living; promoting a modern lifestyle through indoor/outdoor spaces and open volumes while still respecting the past and our old Naples roots. This architecture will stand the test of time.” The

interior

was

designed

by

Jett

Thompson of Jett Thompson Antiques & Interiors, who relished the idea of creating a casual enough atmosphere for the young couple and their eight-year-old twins while indulging the wife’s — and Thompson’s own — love of antiques. “She was raised in the Deep South in a house filled with lovely antiques and touches of Southern charm and wanted to replicate that feeling here,” says Thompson. “We were simpatico in wanting to create something classical, yet comfortable. I call it adding a little ‘high heel’ to the home”.

A breath of fresh air blew through a once-staid neighborhood when Stofft Cooney Architects and BCB Homes, Inc. joined forces to create this stunning contemporary home in Naples’ Port Royal. Featuring 9,141 square feet of under air living, this seven bedroom, eight-and-a-half bath home was designed and built for a young family with active children, who often entertain, host regular out-of-town visitors, and who wanted a contemporary home with a modern look and a cozy feel. “The terms ‘modern’ and ‘cozy’ aren’t often found in the same sentence,” laughs John Cooney, a partner of Stofft Cooney Architects. “The use of stained woods, natural stone, and natural light give this expansive home warmth while keeping true to a contemporary genre. My firm was intimately involved with all aspects of the architecture, including the interiors. This was a fun and gratifying project for myself and my associates.” Such a modern minimalist approach required builder Joe Smallwood to think outside the box when running plumbing, air conditioning ducts, electrical wiring, and geothermal heating for the pool out of view. “It required great precision by many tradespeople to pull it all together,” says Smallwood, “but, in the end, we enjoyed working with the visionary owners and the cutting-edge technology necessary to construct their complex and beautiful home.”

The flat-roofed loggia, extending from the front entrance, covers the limestone entry courtyard installed by Limestone Dimensions. Uplit stainless steel columns and statuary make this into a modern sculpture garden. The emerald-hued water feature is a feast for the eyes and, via the white noise it creates, one for the ears as well.

A huge saltwater aquarium holds center stage in the great room’s living area, serving as home to the owner’s collection of tropical fish and a room divider separating this room from the billiard’s room just behind. A cocoa leather sectional, twin leather recliners, all by B&B Italia, the simple glass and chrome coffee table by Roche Bobois and the tone-on-tone silk rug suits the family’s causal lifestyle.

The kitchen and dining area share this vast space, giving true definition to the term ‘great room’. The two-story space, with a 22-foot ceiling, is awash in light from clerestory windows. The custom mahogany drop sail panels serve several purposes: They bring LED lighting closer to the seating area and visually lower the ceiling height down to what the architect calls a “more human scale”. Cable LED lights also ring the room for added illumination. Stained walnut panels delineates the entertainment center with a TV descending in front of the aquarium. The floor is an American oil-rubbed walnut and continues through to the kitchen, where the quartzite island provides seating for a crowd of friends and family and is used for gatherings instead of a formal dining room. Brushed stainless steel railings hold the glass panels and walnut wood stairs leading upstairs to the children’s lounge and bedrooms.

Above: The owner’s home office is illuminated via the tall mahogany Tischler un Sohn windows. The custom-designed ebony-stained built-ins host objets d’art, including sculptures by Loet Vanderveen, while providing a home for the big screen television. A chocolate ultrasuede sectional by Roche Bobois set atop a tonal woolen rug provides plenty of seating, and a round ottoman upholstered in tangerine joins the accent pillow to bring spots of color to the room. A contemporary arch lamp adds targeted light.

Opposite: A quartzite-topped island spans the entire length of the kitchen and acts as both food prep and dining space. The blonde English sycamore cabinetry contrasting with the dark walnut cabinetry — both by Bob Ostrowski of AlliKristé Custom Cabinetry & Kitchen Design — adds interest and is a counterpoint to the illuminated soffit above. Outlined in a dark reveal, the soffit hides the room’s air conditioning ductworks. Appliances are by Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Miele, and pendant lamps of white glass also help light the scene.

The uplighting of the limestone wall in the outdoor living room casts light on the mahogany tongue-andgroove ceiling. The two-sided wood-burning fireplace may also be enjoyed from the spa just beyond. Retractable screens and hurricane shutters protect the Mexican lava rock flooring and simple furnishings from the elements. This home is listed by Tim Savage of Gulf Coast International Properties.

DESIGNER

at home When Naples Interior Designer Mercedes Courland and her husband began their house hunt, they knew they wanted a home with privacy and a water view. “It took us two years to find the right property,” says Courland. “We were coming from a home which had a 200-foot-wide west facing water view in New York, and we knew we could not live on top of our neighbors in Naples.” After an extensive search, they found a home that not only met their land and water view requirements; it also had the potential Courland had been looking for. “I was able to see past the architectural faux pas of the 80s design and focus on the positive elements in the home,” she explains. “The modern feel, the great light — I knew I could put my own ‘brand’ in this home.” She immediately began creating the designs for their new Naples residence, creating her take on coastal elegance. Coming from a family of architects, and with 30 years of experience, she was able to navigate the renovation process with ease, providing full working drawings to Naples contractor Three Palms Construction. Outside, the home has seen a transformation. A black roof was replaced with a light silver metal one, changing the look of the home. New plants create a repeating theme of orange and red to compliment the vast greenness of the lawn. The two horse statues came with the home but were hidden away on the side of the house. Courland explains “I created the checkerboard pattern for them to stand on and we moved them to the front of the home where

BEFORE

they can be seen.”

HOME & DESIGN 2016 V2

Inside, Courland began by tearing down unnecessary walls to create a more open layout. The kitchen and great room were separated by walls and soffits, closing off the space and hiding the beautiful skylights. The ceiling, which had an 80’s severe slant to it, needed to be redesigned and dressed up. Her love of patterns and texture create an innovative look. At the end of the project, Courland had transformed every aspect of the home to match her love of modern design, color, and functionality. As you enter through the large mahogany doors, the great room, pool, and lake beyond create a dramatic view. Custom furniture, designed specifically for the space, is scaled to the size of the room. With a strong background in classical design, Courland used her time in Europe to influence her modern interiors. “Modern design can feel a little off if people forget about historic proportions. Furniture that’s too large or small can feel out of place in

BEFORE, OPPOSITE

a room, cheapening the look of a modern interior,” she explains. While furniture with decent proportions can be purchased ready-made, Courland prefers to design custom

BEFORE, ABOVE

furniture when possible, at affordable pricing. The coffered ceiling in the great room was created by leveling the slanted ceiling. The sculptural details add dimension to the room, and the blue accents inside the coffers mirror the colors found in the pool. Five shades of subtle cremes enhance depth. The chandelier creates a geometric feel with circles softening the angles of the squares above. She designed the interiors with a repeating concept of “circle in the square.” Peacock blue tones are carried through the home into the dining room. The velvet on the chairs adds a touch of glamour while the wall covering keeps with the chic coastal theme. “It reminded me of a fishing net,” Courland says. The walnut dining table features a high gloss finish with a Greek key inlay. Above, the sleek HOME & DESIGN 2016 V2

light fixture is the only one of its kind in the world, and an element Courland is especially excited about. “It’s not in production yet, but I saw it and knew it was perfect for the dining room. I asked Hubbardton Forge if I could somehow get one early and they sent me a prototype!” From their Four Seasons collection, this winter inspired piece looks like ice shining in the sun. In the kitchen, the skylights are enhanced by floating coffers, mirroring the ceiling in the great room. Courland says “While the great room is sculptural, this ceiling was designed so it didn’t block the light from above.” New off-white cabinets replaced the blue formica ones original to the home. On the island, white marble was used for its high-end appeal, while quartz countertops in the rest of the kitchen provide a durable prep surface. The geometric marble backsplash with small mirrors embedded between the tiles was an element which took Courland months to find but was well worth the trouble as it has become a focal point in the home. It adds a subtle

BEFORE, ABOVE

element of pizazz. The master bathroom is now a spa-like space. Courland chose a soft green-blue shade for the tile and textured Italian wall coverings. “I wanted this room to be relaxing and to carry that coastal feel. The glass mosaic tiles in the shower reminded me of champagne bubbles and the wallpaper has a very natural texture.” Over the glossy white cabinets, mirrors are hung in front of glass tiles that catch the light from the polished nickel light fixture. The tub’s modern silhouette and white marble floors

finish the space.

In the master bedroom, more custom furniture and natural light fill the room. “I designed the bed so the headboard and upholstered wall behind became one. Since our bedroom in New York was dark and formal, I wanted this space to be light and ethereal, Courland explains. On the bed, Courland designed the throw pillows to be a focal point. One of her favorite thing to design, they give the room texture and complement the classic elements of the room.

in the backyard, but it’s the glass windows and doors throughout that keep the interior connected to the exterior. “I loved that the home had a lot of natural light,” continues Pereira, “though we did add direct recessed lighting, ambient peripheral rope-LEDs behind the ceiling alcoves, and soft decorative light fixtures to define areas like the island or dining table in the open floor plan,” says Pereira. To complement the clean-lined moldings and contemporary architecture throughout, Pereira selected simple modern furniture mostly in white linen and leather, with chrome finishes. She also added pattern through art and textiles. “I also integrated organic wood furniture to add warmth, such as the live-edge walnut dining table, or the solid oak bark console in the upstairs sitting room,” she continues. Cobalt and navy blues are also used as accent hues, respectively in the master bedroom and the upstairs sitting room, adding splashes of color to the largely neutral furnishings palette. No blue, however, could possibly compete with the bay and pool outside in the back of the house.

Bucklebury Homes is a design team with a mission — to update Old Naples one home at a time. The national firm, with showrooms in Naples and Chicago, has done more than update this 2,500 square foot, three-story town home on 2nd Street South; they have transformed it. With a beautiful residence in the outer suburbs of Naples, Kevin and Heather Claes’ client wanted a weekend retreat. “Our client didn’t want to fight traffic to get to the beach,” says Heather. “They just wanted a different environment to relax and feel comfortable in, something that was light and beachy, fresh and transitional.” Kevin adds that what their client wanted was to “cut this showroom out of this building and put it in my home,” a reaction that many homeowners have when they visit Bucklebury’s whole-house showroom that highlights designing by lifestyle. “We coupled great interior design with architectural elements in this home,” continues Kevin. “This home is not just tall ceilings and a lot of drywall; there is a constant excitement throughout the space. It’s full of details, but not overwhelmed by them. The home has a lot of character now, a clean, crisp look. It’s not your typical shades of gray interior.” Everything in the home was custom designed and built by Bucklebury or sourced through their national network. “Bucklebury is an experienced design/build firm,” explains Kevin. “We can take your vision and build it from the ground up, or work within the footprint of your existing home to breathe new life into it.”

Custom built cabinetry from the Bucklebury studio in Chicago creates a media wall topped by illuminated recesses. Signs identifying the streets bordering this tiny townhouse in Old Naples are a clue to its legendary location just two blocks from the beach where Gulfshore Boulevard turns a corner onto 5th Avenue South. The threestory walnut stairway rises to become a glass-enclosed passage set flush against sandblasted gray and taupe stone applied in a stacked brick pattern. The sea urchin lighting fixture is art imitating nature, drawing its strength from steel rods spaced around the orb like the creature’s spines they resemble.

HOME & DESIGN 2016 V2

G

Glistening at the juncture of two wide canals, just one turn from the Caloosahatchee River, Casa Vidrio captures the essence of living bathed in glorious light. The award-winning PGI Homes model in Cape Coral sparkles from within and glows without, thanks to the brilliant imaginations of husband-and-wife builders Anthony and Tia Farhat and the creative design flair of Sydney Warren and Luanza Maitland of Norris Interiors. This inaugural initiative between the builder and the interior design team was “an excellent experience” according to Warren. “Tia is incredible, she incorporates wonderful light fixtures into their homes and the company is very forward thinking with their surface materials. They do a lot with exterior lighting as well, taking advantage of the waterfront locations of their models.” Anthony Farhat modeled the home after one he had originally designed for his family. “At the time, my wife and I recognized the significant shift in the market to coastal contemporary design, which we love, but wanted to keep the space inviting with a warm color palette.” The homesite sits along the water, so the view was of utmost importance which is evident in the design. “I used storefront glass along the water’s edge, incorporating large outdoor living spaces to take advantage of the beautiful sight lines along with the western exposure. The home fills with gorgeous natural colors every afternoon through sunset,” explains Farhat. The 3,885-square-foot four bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home wraps around an infinity edge pool, visually spilling into the canal beyond. “The coastal contemporary design scheme plays a lot on the blues of the pool and the waterfront,” adds Maitland. “The home’s flooring is bleached white oak which evokes the image of walking on sand and soft colors were used in keeping with the sand, sea, and air.”

White split stone quartz covers one wall, reflecting the light cast by the three Crystorama jeweled orbs suspended from the illuminated tray ceiling. Warren and Maitland worked with the builder on the proper spacing, size, and proportions of the floating shelves. Anchored by a Fibreworks® natural sisal area rug, twin Century sofas in an off-white nubby texture flank a platinum finished cocktail table by Vanguard. The comfortable seating group is completed by a pair of custom upholstered Sherrill chairs. Sea blue velvet pillows add a touch of soft color and pick up the aqua hues in the artwork.

“Our goal was to create interiors that were elegant and interesting, yet comfortable. The voluminous, 20foot ceilings in the grand living area are warmed by the light fixtures and furnishings,” continues Warren. In a house designed to shine, the lighting plays a pivotal role and is the designers’ favorite aspect. The six fixtures in the grand living area are all hung at different levels. Warren says it was a team effort among the builder, designers, and electrician to get them perfectly placed, but the result was well worth it. “The variation produces a wonderful glow that sets the mood for the rest of the house,” says Warren. Maitland is entranced by the way the home looks at night. “It’s just incredible! It’s one of the best-illuminated homes I’ve ever seen.”

Above: In the adjacent dining area, three identical lighting fixtures hang above the dining room table — a work of art in itself with dual stainless steel sculptural bases and a 60 by 120-inch glass top — that comfortably seats 8 to 10 with a combination of chairs and short banquette.

Opposite: White split stone quartz covers the kitchen walls and faces the dining island, its rough texture contrasting with the sleek stainless steel appliances and “Torquay” quartz countertop surfaces by Cambria®. Platinum finished metal-based bar stools from Johnston Casuals push completely under the island’s lip so as not to break up the clean lines of the kitchen. Globe pendant lights above the island serve as a visual foil to the clean, linear design of the white cabinets by Busy Bee Cabinets, Inc. The high end appliances were supplied by Design Studio by Raymond.

The medical crisis involving a child is the hardest thing a family can face. Parents spend weeks or months away from home as their children receive treatment, separated from the support of other family members. The financial burden of finding housing during that time is daunting. That’s where Ronald McDonald Houses across the country step in, providing a ‘home-away-from-home’. Born out of a desire to help these amazing families, Project Design began in 2013 with the idea that one’s environment could make a difference during a difficult situation. With many Ronald McDonald Houses getting on in age, it was clear that a revitalization project was needed, and who better to revamp an interior than a group of local talented interior designers? “That’s where I came in,” says Suzanne Costa, Member, Board of Directors at the Ronald McDonald House Charity of Long Island. “I was asked if I’d like to take on a room in our local house during the first Project Design ever attempted. Once I got started I was hooked! The impact we had on the lives of these children and families just by doing what we do as interior designers was so fulfilling.” She left that experience knowing she wanted to implement the same strategy in Southwest Florida. While the change in the home is dramatic, and the finished rooms are beautiful, the most impressive part of this project is the generosity and heart of the local design community as members came together to create a home which will nurture and support families physically and mentally as they face a tough battle for the health of their child.

ENTRY

SUZANNE COSTA INTERIORS My desire for this space was to create a warm, beautiful entry with a nature-inspired healing aesthetic. As the grand foyer is the first room you see upon entering, it was important to have a fireplace centered to create a focal point and “heart of the home.” The butterfly art was commissioned to represent a nurturing experience of being in the love of the house and leaving better for it. Large, open spaces with frequent foot traffic can create a challenge, and require thought to accomplish a room with both function and form. Keeping the function in mind during the design process helped me make a commercial space feel like home for these families of seriously ill children. This truly is a home away from home.

DOUBLE OFFICE

MERCEDES COURLAND INTERIORS Inspired by the feeling of happiness, my objective was to create a clean, bright, and functioning office space with an uplifting effect for the occupants. Using color on a background of white materials, I added wallpaper, laminates, and files to make this office fun. Accents of bright magenta and yellow give the space a vibrant quality. The office was quite small for two people, so I had to be creative with the desk plans, designing one large desk accessible from both sides. This enabled me to have a dramatic and symmetrical view when entering the room. The Ronald McDonald House is such an excellent organization impacting the lives of so many people and I wanted to contribute my time and efforts to help these families carrying such large burdens. 320

VOLUNTEER OFFICE NORRIS ADINA DESIGN

We designed the Volunteer Office, which is one of the first spaces you see as a visitor or guest. The volunteers greet and register the families, so we wanted it to feel welcoming and vibrant. To accomplish this in the windowless space, we chose bright, happy, and fresh finishes. Since we didn’t have an opportunity to use fabrics in the office, we decided to introduce color and pattern in an unexpected way — on the ceiling. The dominant elements are the beautiful custom aquacolored cabinets and the hand-painted ceiling tiles. We continued our color palette of aqua and beiges for artwork including the piece found on the tiled feature which simply says L-O-V-E — the most important commodity at the Ronald McDonald House.

like to be present for his family 24 hours a day at the hospital. It is exhausting and emotionally draining. The Ronald McDonald House provides a safe haven for families experiencing some of the most difficult times in their lives, and we are honored to be able to assist in providing a visually comfortable environment for each of them. The dining room is the place where families have an opportunity to refuel physically and emotionally. We were thrilled to create an environment where people can easily connect with each other and other families experiencing similar circumstances. The environment is soothingly simple yet upbeat and positive. HOME & DESIGN 2016 V2

KITCHEN

SOHO KITCHENS AND DESIGN Our space was on the larger size but needed to feel like a normal kitchen for the families. It now has clean lines with the white upper cabinets paired with the warmth of the wooden cabinets below to make it feel like home. After creating a design with three kitchens in one space, we needed the team to make this happen. We are so fortunate to know both people and companies that can make the impossible possible and we had help from SOHO Custom, Bremtown Cabinetry, Summit Design, and Harlan Cabinets — all of them took up the challenge. The hutch with the splash of colors was my favorite aspect of the design.

The original oil ‘Splash’ painted and donated by Patti Felix was my inspiration for the space. I felt it represented the reason these families were here, as they are dropped (like a cannonball) into their situations. Using that as the color in the restroom, I wanted the rest of the space to be light and serene and simple. My favorite part of this small bath is the wall and door finish. O’Guin Decorative Arts let me choose from a few options they were willing to generously donate, and I selected the Satori Japanese Wall plaster. It’s a simple yet sophisticated finish. The door was covered in “Granyte” by Triarch. We loved watching people at the Grand Reveal party wondering just what this fabulous textural looking finish actually was.

INTAKE

VANESSA DELEON ASSOCIATES

Our objective for this space was to create an inviting atmosphere for the families as they are first introduced to the Ronald McDonald House through the intake room. We wanted to create a stress-free environment during a difficult time for these families. The playful decor and calming color palette is intended to set the families at ease and create a relaxing environment as they get to know the staff during their intake session. The room also serves as a “getaway” space for quiet personal time. We love the marriage of modern furnishings and the whimsical, fairytale inspired floral and butterfly motif. This “mash-up” brings the vision of the Ronald McDonald House together, celebrating fun-loving children’s fantasies with the modern care and amenities the House provides.

encouragement and hope for these special families. Each design selection represents the message of optimism for the healing of their seriously ill child. The vibrant wallpaper is a modern take on a rainbow with touches of gold found in the lighting fixtures and cabinet hardware. A colorful pair of high back chairs state the message of the home — Hope & Healing, Love & Faith. The custom art above the built-in work table depicts a child doing a cartwheel, sending a message that their child’s health will soon be restored. The play area with tangerine chair keeps siblings close. A globe-like pendant fixture represents the far-reaching love and hope provided by the Ronald McDonald House. HOME & DESIGN 2016 V2

BEDROOM ROZ TRAVIS INTERIORS

In this bedroom, vibrant colors sit under a hand-painted canopy. The trompe l’oeil employed in the room creates the feeling of a beach cabana and the colors and artwork choices have a fun coastal feel. Comfortable bedding is complemented by an elegant dresser and matching desk. The charming elements in this room make it the perfect place for a family to spend quality time together as they surround their child with love and support.

BEDROOM

WRIGHT INTERIOR GROUP Our goal was to create a light and restful living space for the families staying in our bedroom sanctuary. To bring nature into the room, we created a virtual skylight and incorporated water inspired colorful fabrics for an inviting environment. Our completely renovated bathroom also includes glass tile that sparkles like the twinkle lights in the bedroom sky, hopefully bringing a much-needed smile to the guests. By creating a built-in wall in place of basic furniture, we were able to incorporate the functionality needed in a bedroom. Dresser storage supports a countertop and desk with shelving on top. We wanted to provide no fuss bedding, so we upholstered the box spring surround and devised a way to separate the bed from the headboard for easy and necessary cleaning. Â 324

BEDROOM

KAHN DESIGN GROUP Having been in and out of children’s hospitals with my own daughter, I know how draining it is when your child is ill. Given my experience and, since the foundation of all my work is based on the notion of “sanctuary”, this project was a natural fit for me. I believe deeply in the healing power of nature, and I also love a good story so “Where the Wild Things Are” became my design guide. The sea green wallpaper with printed gold tree trunks has a woodland feel. I added gold stars to the ceiling and used natural wood tones for the furniture. A painted chest keeps the design fresh. My hope is this is a place where monsters are fought and love wins out.

My own baby girl was born five weeks early and spent time in the Health Park Hospital NICU. That period was one of the most emotional and challenging experiences of my life. During that time we met several families in the NICU utilizing this Ronald McDonald House

their

child’s stay, so I was thrilled to participate in this project. I hope this bedroom can provide comfort and support to a family giving everything they have emotionally to their child. I wanted to create a calming space with a soft, soothing color palette and homey feel. The design also needed to be usable for the families, so we provided several storage options through two chests, a desk, and a new closet system. Flexible window coverings completely darken the room for daytime rest.

BEDROOM

PURE DESIGN

Our objectives in the space were to emphasize an ultra-relaxed and calm environment, with a homey nonformal feel. We wanted the space to encompass as much natural light as possible. From the soothing cool blues to the soft and airy bedding, we wanted families to come back to a warm and inviting environment and de-stress from the day’s events. The artwork depicts soothing ocean hues and rolling rhythmic waves for a further calming effect.  The idea behind the Ronald McDonald House is such an amazing cause. These families go through so much emotionally that we can only hope to donate enough of our efforts to help. Giving back to our community is such a vital part of the design field, and where giving is concerned too much is never enough.

BEDROOM DESIGN WEST The design plays off of the different elements

through the color palette, textiles, fixtures, and artwork. Using cool colors to evoke a sense of calm and well-being, we strived to create a tranquil environment where families can escape from the harshness of reality. The design emphasizes the use of natural light and is sophisticated while tastefully incorporating fun and whimsical elements throughout. The 3D wave wall made from modular panels and the nautical shell ceiling detail (the nautilus represents a journey of growth and meaning) reinforce the coastal concept of the room Design West is extremely honored to have participated in such an impactful project. Seeing talented members from the community come together to help children and families in need was a very powerful and fun experience. 326

ART IN HALLWAY J.A. WILLY GALLERY

Painted by Diane Davich-Craig, this piece of art is a giclee of the original which is a 24 x 36 oil painting on panel titled ‘The Great Escape’. While grocery shopping, Davich-Craig came across a box of animal crackers which she took home and used as the inspiration for this work. The concept is both whimsical and relatable, as these animals are escaping their situation and liberating themselves from the box. The broader metaphor applies to our own everyday lives but is especially poignant in a place where people are facing situations that are less than ideal. The animals and colors in the piece keep the tone light and relatable for the children running the halls of

the

Ronald

McDonald House.

With a less-is-more design approach, we knew a minimalistic space would create order and allow flexibility in the boardroom. To accommodate meetings both large and small, a clean-lined light and stackable chair style was selected.

BOARD ROOM CREASHA WEGLARZ

Keeping in mind the nature of the Ronald McDonald House, it was important to provide a functional yet playful atmosphere. We selected primary colors and the playful art of Keith Haring. Bright blue and white window treatments were used to soften the space while adding a muchneeded acoustic quality. The conference table has a rich toned sapele-mahogany top. The matte silver table base coordinated beautifully with the Quorom chandelier. We were thrilled to have this opportunity to do something for our community that would

the

lives of others.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OFFICE CONSTANCE TRUTWIN INTERIORS

The most challenging aspect of my space was its size. The Executive Director’s office is only seven feet wide and fifteen feet long and is a windowless space. To open up the room I visually widened and extended the walls by drawing the eye up with custom cabinets for the far end of the office. I also added mirrors to the doors to create depth and the feeling of space. My design inspiration was the symbol of the circle, as it represents the unity of family and life. I used this symbol throughout the space. Once completed, my favorite element in the office were the soothing colors, but I also loved the smile and hug I received from Laura Ragain, the hardworking Director of the Ronald McDonald House.

FAMILY ROOM KVS INTERIORS The living room is a place where families can gather together to meet and support one another. Since people at the Ronald McDonald House are facing similar situations, the ability to create a supportive community is important. With

QUAD OFFICE CLOSET FACTORY

In this multi-purpose room used for work and events throughout the year, the challenge was to make four individual and functioning workspaces while still keeping an open flow throughout the room. This was accomplished by well-designed desks and storage cabinets lifted off the floor along the far wall. A favorite thing was catching the coastal vibe in an office setting with the use of material. The grey textured cabinets along with the Cambria Stone desktops and wall color archived this look.

We wanted to create an oasis for the weekend manager in our space. The room needed to be user-friendly while still feeling like a private

retreat. We incorporated pops of turquoise and orange with coastal accents like the upholstered turquoise and ivory headboard, vinyl grasscloth, neutral colored bedding and a painted sliding barn door covering the closet. The most challenging aspect was completing the design updates within the construction time frame. From adding the planked ceiling detail to retiling the entire bathroom, we were fortunate to work with some of the most talented installers around. I had a wonderful experience at a Ronald McDonald House when my daughter was in the children’s hospital, so giving back to the organization through the Fort Myers project was a blessing. LANAI

JEFFREY FISHER HOME

For years, I’ve known of the good work that Ronald McDonald House does for the community and I was thrilled when we were asked to participate. When we came onboard, the lanai certainly didn’t encourage anyone to spend time out there. We wanted to make a covered outdoor area that residents would enjoy spending time in, whether alone or with a loved one. We knew that the space was small so everything we used would have to provide a large visual payoff. Covering the two end walls in varying sizes of wood slats provided a strong visual and a great surface to attach orchids and staghorn ferns to. The philodendron printed outdoor fabric on the furniture is a favorite element, and we paid tribute to the Golden Arches with two yellow ceramic tables.

HOUSE MANAGER APARTMENT

KW DEVELOPMENT & JETT THOMPSON ANTIQUES & INTERIORS Our space was the home of the House Managers, creating a unique challenge. This is their full-time home so rather than full creative license we had a ‘wish list’ from these selfless women who make this their home. After getting to know these two ladies we found that Grandma loves purple, and daughter loves Nascar. They both are into ‘Old Florida’ design with bright colors but also are drawn to mid-century modern. Seeing the two ladies walk through the house exclaiming “you listened to us” made the challenge of incorporating specific requests totally worthwhile. They were crying happy tears and seemed genuinely thrilled. Seeing their excitement was the greatest reward — these two wonderful women deserve to live in a beautiful space.
