Your trusted resource... The medium of print itself can be a powerful branding tool for advertisers, but for the readers of Home & Design, it’s all about resources. Who are you going to hire when you build, renovate, or buy your next home? Who can you trust to have the expertise you need to handle the responsibility? And whose work can you research as the highest quality, most design-savvy, and trend setting? We endeavor to bring you the finest companies, products, and services in each edition of Home & Design magazine. In this issue, we have assembled 12 of the most interesting homes in Southwest Florida. Every issue special attention is paid to including all the major styles in the design conversation. From traditional to coastal, transitional to modern, you’ll see a colorful variety. There’s something for everyone in this issue. Readers tell me all the time that they rely on Home & Design to find great companies doing great work. Industry professionals also use the magazine as a resource for their own projects, turning to H&D to find just the right architect, builder, designer, vendor, or realtor for their next project. They look to us to connect with each other. This collaborative process is a responsibility we take seriously. But not so seriously that we don’t have fun with it! Warmly,

I

I know you are going to love this year’s Design Issue. After looking at the final proofs, I am proud to say that this is one of the best collections of beautiful design we’ve published within our fourteen years in Southwest Florida. What better way to usher in the ‘second’ season. As our friends from the North return home for Spring, locals begin their home improvement projects. And more friends from Europe arrive just in time to enjoy an uncrowded experience in paradise. It’s these two seasons that keep our luxury home business robust year-round. We felt each half of the year needed to be represented by its own edition of Home & Design because of the ongoing success of the industry. Kudos to the cast that makes this production possible. You really have outdone yourselves.

THE DESIGN ISSUE 2014

Secret garden In the coveted Naples neighborhood of Port Royal, a hidden gem from the early 1990s has been given new life. Where many would have been overwhelmed by the idea of renovation, Kristen Williams and her trusted team seized the opportunity to revive something special. This speculative project, listed by Larry and Mary Catherine White of Downing Frye Realty, is the perfect demonstration of how to add great value to an older structure by remastering it for today’s life style. From the moment you lay eyes on this property, you are captivated by the beauty and enchantment of the home’s exterior. A canopy of Live Oak trees welcomes you, and draws you in to discover one of the most striking features of the home’s facade. Bougainvillea trees that appear to be growing out of the front steps and up through the roof are more than just a remarkable architectural detail; they cleverly foreshadow the home’s continuous theme of bringing the outdoors in. The original architect on the home was Alfred W. French III, who was considered a true community leader. He left his mark on Naples in many ways including numerous important buildings, and a passionate commitment to community service. One of his most notable achievements was leading the efforts to obtain city and council approval for the Fifth Avenue revitalization plan of downtown Naples, the most sweeping proposal for redevelopment in the city’s history. The current architect, Matthew Kragh of MHK Architecture and Planning happened to know French, always admired his work, and was honored to have the chance to work on one of his creations. “The day Kristen and I first walked through this home, we knew it was the largest potential that we had seen. Great architecture does not tire, and this home’s former magnificence was just waiting to blossom again. With a few less walls, we were able to create a better flow which increased the functionality of the space,” says Kragh.

A fusion of nature and architecture was executed flawlessly by architect, Alfred French who designed the home around the bougainvillea trees. HomeAndDesign.net

Something surprising awaits those who enter its doors.

THE DESIGN ISSUE 2014

Entering through the lattice covered front doors for the first time is an experience that can only be described as delightful and surprising. If the exterior had not given it away, it is at this moment that you realize how remarkable this property really is. Rather than a typical reception area, or a formal living room, this home is built around a secret garden. The pyramidshaped atrium was transformed into an aviary and butterfly sanctuary that rivals most botanical gardens. Kristen enlisted the help of Mike & Jackie Malloy to refresh the space with nectar plants, and host plants for butterflies. All of the plants that you see here are native and indigenous to Florida. Mike Malloy is a Collier County Master Gardener and author of the book Butterfly Gardening Made Easy for Southwest Florida. “The Alfred French style old Florida home is something that people are trying to recreate today, so why mess with it. My goal was just to bring it back to life,” explains Williams. The builder that Kristen chose to revive the space was Mike Assaad from Waterside Builders. “This is the largest restoration of an existing home that we have done to this level of finish, and it is the most dramatic before and after,” expresses Assaad. Moving through the home you will find yourself in a truly one-of-a-kind kitchen. The space that you see now was once divided into two rooms. In order to bring this property up-to-date, a wall was removed to accommodate a 12-foot island, double butler’s pantries, and a spacious breakfast nook. “Our main concern was making Kristen’s kitchen exactly like she imagined and designed. Everything is fully integrated and all appliances are hidden. You would never know she has two refrigerators, an ice maker, wine cooler and refrigerator drawers,” adds Gregory Bennett, of Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. Kristen’s attention to detail is one of the many reasons that her work shines so brightly. When multiple opportunities for custom carpentry pieces presented themselves, Williams reached out to Chris Hylemon and Amanda Gearey at Hyland Custom Cabinetry, A Thomas Riley Company. “The look we have created is a modern French cottage kitchen. We were

Following Spread — The kitchen incorporates a morning bar, and a wet bar (not pictured). The artwork in the butler’s pantry was painted by Bob Ransley, and sourced from Gallery 1 on 5th. Kristen has an entire collection of his work, and particularly enjoys the cheerful and colorful animals. HomeAndDesign.net

able to maximize the storage and create multiple work spaces with a unique U-shaped island,” adds Gearey. Other custom details created by Hyland include the large French hood with stainless strapping, English Elm tabletop with live edge, and sliding barn doors. The barn doors were created with a lattice pattern to mimic the original doors and trim work that you see throughout the home. Kristen took a very creative approach to the large formal living room. The centerpiece of the room is an oversized French reproduction chandelier. Two full seating arrangements define the space and create a wonderful atmosphere for entertaining. Above the fireplace, an authentic Hollywood regency pagoda mirror is flanked by blue and white porcelain ginger jars for an elegant and timeless statement. Opposite the fireplace a large 4-panel painting by local artist Mally Khorasantchi brings color and life to the space. “I like working large and spontaneously, which I feel reflects who I am,” explains Khorasantchi. The look is tied together by flanking her artwork with pieces of an opium bed from Thailand. The natural wood of the bed blends well with the natural colors and textures used throughout the space. Reminiscent of a garden tea party, the dining room feels like something out of a dream. Used as inspiration throughout the entire home, the Chaing Mai Dragon pattern by Schumacher takes center stage here on the wingback chairs and seat cushions. The pattern encompasses Kristen’s vision and brings the magic of the secret garden into the home. A truly custom lighting fixture, this vibrant coral chandelier can’t be found in any store. With a homemade prototype consisting of red branches and Christmas lights, Kristen decided to collaborate with Judith Liegeois on the design. Ed Koehler, a Florida native who specializes in organic design, brought their vision to life. The Chinese water dragon table base (featured on the cover of this issue) was discovered by Kristen at a consignment store in downtown Naples. While it adds to the eclectic nature of the home, it ties in perfectly with the signature Schumacher fabric as if they were made for one another. The impressive sliding barn doors made of live edge slabs

of English Elm were another custom detail executed by Hyland Custom Cabinetry. “We were seeking a creative way to cover the passage from the dining room to the kitchen and didn’t want to stick with the standard pocket type door system. The barn door style offered a world of possibilities for unique door slabs. We wanted to achieve a natural looking element that would be not only functional but aesthetically pleasing. The hardware was custom made with the intent of creating an industrial and aged element that was also strong enough to carry the weight of the doors,” describes Hylemon. Overlooking both the pool and the garden, this room is filled with natural light and surrounded by beautiful scenery.

The master suite overlooks a canal and a view of lush undeveloped land, which is especially rare in Port Royal. Anchoring the space, a jute rug is a neutral base for the soft blue and purple color palette. The original master bathroom and dressing rooms were completely gutted to make room for updates and an additional guest room. In the new bathroom, a soaking tub is accented with a dainty chandelier, and the walls are clad in Calcutta Gold tile. This one-of-a-kind residence has all the conveniences of modern living, with all the character and charm of old Florida. “Walking through this home, you are taken on a journey into Kristen Williams’ vision. RENOVATION

BEFORE AND AFTER

Before

“It was a diamond in the rough,” states Virginia Forget, describing the home that she and her husband, Bob, purchased, designed, and renovated. Originally built in the mid 1980’s, this classical Mediterranean style villa in the Park Shores area of Naples, had lost much of its former appeal. Working with architect John Cooney, of Stofft Cooney Architects, and Mike Nourse Construction, the team renovated the entire structure. Aside from the exterior walls and the roof, all was removed and replaced with a new transitional modern villa design--entirely transforming this property, maximizing its potential, and bringing forth its hidden beauty.

After

On the exterior of the home, the original decorative elements are stripped away and replaced by smooth surfaces, clean lines, aluminum awnings, and black-framed Anderson windows. The symmetry of the center-line stairs and entryway are replaced by French doors leading into a bedroom, a blue-tiled infinity waterfall, and lush landscape features. “The new approach path becomes a gently rising series of plateaus,” explains Cooney, “meandering towards the new off-set entranceway, allowing a more casual welcome to the home.” 106

Originally, the interior of the house was divided into small shadowy chambers, including separate galley kitchen, dining, and family rooms, as well as 3 downstairs bedrooms. Dark wood cabinetry and furnishings, as well as limited windows, meant that the space absorbed a great deal of light and felt “cave-like.” “The original design had neglected the home’s unique location,” states Forget. “We wanted to open up the view of the water and allow the sunlight in.”

After

“Although the footprint remained the same, everything inside is new,” clarifies Mark Nourse. The kitchen, dining room, and living space are combined into a single great room, allowing sunlight to flow throughout the space and accommodating extra features, such as a breakfast bar, with the new found room. Bi-fold, zero-corner doors let large portions of the wall open fully to the sea breeze. Custom designed cabinetry, with high-gloss stain and white finishes, and accents of chrome and glass, complement the modern furnishings, enhancing the contemporary style. The inclusion of a television projector and 120-inch rolling screen that can descend from the ceiling ensures that the panoramic view is uncompromised by this modernized entertainment space. Furthermore, trayed ceilings were added here, as well as in every room, to add volume and style to the home.

RENOVATION

BEFORE AND AFTER

Before

The former master bedroom was a gloomy affair. Wide, brown wood moldings and classic terracotta tiles absorbed light and contributed to making the space feel smaller. Divided pane doors limited the flow of sunlight into the room and a small study off the room allowed no light at all. Furthermore, typical swinging doors translated to a great deal of lost space.

After

The new master bedroom reinforces the contemporary, casual style through the careful reflections of light and maximization of space. “Every room has is its own unique trayed ceiling design,” explains Forget. “However this one is my favorite because it adds so much volume to the room.” A chic striato olimpico marble floor, in a bamboo pattern, extends through the master suite. The moldings were minimized to only white baseboards and brought flush with the wall in order to maintain a crisp clean feel. Modernized barn doors resting on stainless steel rails slide easily against the wall, acting as unique design elements without taking space from the room. When opened, these doors frame a fire-ribbon style fireplace that welcomes the owner into the new master bathroom.

Before

Originally intended as one of the bedrooms, this room was built with a traditional vault ceiling and travertine marble tile. The window view was interrupted by the balcony rail and a large chandelier, as well as AC elements, stood out abruptly on the ceiling. Due both to its size and shape, the space seemed cold and cavernous.

After

Recreated as the new study, this room now boasts a classy, contemporary style. Recessed can lighting and nearly invisible AC elements blend into the double alcove ceiling, granting additional space, a more efficient flow of conditioned air, and the ability to install larger windows. The dark porcelain tile in a running bond motif is reminiscent of wood, while remaining modern. The custom cabinetry and shelving, with its simple contemporary shapes and colors, are reflective of the Forget’s ultimate vision: a “less is more” philosophy. “This was a really enjoyable project,” states Bob Forget. “Virginia knew just what she wanted and shared her ideas with John Cooney. With the help of John and the experts at Mike Nourse Construction, we were able to make her dream a reality.” Written by Scott Hickerson Photography by Amber Frederiksen Photography Stofft Cooney Architects 633 9th Street N Naples, FL 34104 239.262.7677 www.stofftcooney.com

LISA LOVETTO

I have the unique and rare experience of growing up in the pristine beauty of early Naples.

Lisa Hampton Lovetto is a fifth generation native of Naples. Her great-great grandfather, Madison Weeks and his brother, John, are noted in the county records as the first settlers of this area in the mid-1800’s. She is a proud Neapolitan with a deep and abiding sense of place, and over fifty years of history experiencing the exponential growth of Southwest Florida. A lifetime of observation, study and practice give her a grasp of the lifestyle here few others possess. Lovetto adds, “I have the unique and rare experience of growing up in the pristine beauty of early Naples. My design aesthetic, regardless of style, is deeply informed by the desire to bring that sense of sublime beauty into every interior that I create.” Lisa’s training began at a very early age. “For as long as I can remember, I helped my mother rearrange the furniture and artwork in our homes….and we moved frequently! I was even allowed to select my own bedroom carpet and paint color.” So the seeds for a career in Interior Design were sown. As Lisa recalls, “The decisive moment was at Career Day, Naples High School, 1976. I was listening to a presentation by two local designers and distinctly remember being overcome with a sense of certainty that this is it…this is who I am. The luxury of certainty is so sweet.” After acquiring her Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design from Florida State University, Lovetto went to work for an architectural firm. Further apprenticeships with a few key interior design mentors rounded out her training, and in 1996 she opened her own firm. Lovetto Design, Inc. specializes in high-end residential work, professional and medical offices, and Left — Natural stone, custom moldings and afrormosia hardwood cabinetry abound throughout this warm contemporary abode that Lovetto designed with the assistance of architect, Jeff Scott. “It was a labor of love,” Lisa recalls. “We gutted the entire house and started from scratch. It is a unique and personal backdrop for the people and things we love the most.” Bronze “Shaman of the Benediction” wall sculpture over the fireplace is by William Worrell. yachts. Lisa personally executes all design drawings and details and then sees those designs through to fruition. When it comes to style, Lisa’s work is clean and classic, whether it’s a contemporary or traditional interior. professional and technical knowledge and trust. Such a relationship produces interiors that stimulate and refresh the soul. The ease and harmony that result from such a working relationship bear living spaces that capture the spirit and personality of their occupants. Aside from the natural beauty of Naples, Lovetto has been greatly influenced by her experiences during extensive travel to many parts of the globe, including Bali, Hong Kong, Tibet and Nepal, to Europe, the America’s and the Caribbean Islands. This has had a profound influence on her own home, as well as her overall design aesthetic.

Above Left — Lisa’s love of symmetry is highlighted once again in this view of the kitchen cooktop surround and double islands. This room was designed for her husband, who thankfully for her, loves to cook! The hand-made afrormosia cabinets throughout the house were designed by Lovetto and built by Southwest Woodwork in Naples. Architectural light fixtures are by Kevin Reilly for Holly Hunt. Above Right — This light-filled dining area, open to the kitchen and great room, has a sanctuary-like atmosphere. Underscored by a chandelier and wall sconces made with real candles, aptly titled “Altar,” this is truly a divine space for sharing food and conversation. McGuire bamboo dining table, antique Chinese chairs, and Indonesian buffet add to the global feel of this space. Light fixtures are by Kevin Reilly for Holly Hunt. Below Right — Lisa calls this exquisite room her “little jewel box.” Every inch, except the ceiling, is lined with rift-cut oak and mirrors, fit together with puzzle-like precision. A cleverly placed linen closet is hidden from view by an oak panel flush with the walls and accessible by touch latch only… one of many expertly hidden storage areas in the home. Honey onyx countertop and polished nickel accents create warmth and sparkle when lit. Woodwork and cabinetry by Southwest Woodwork. body of scientific evidence that informs us about the very real effects of light, color, sound, scent, temperature and other stimuli on the physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual bodies of humans.” This supports her mission, which is “to design interior spaces that have the potential to create and support a sense of wellbeing in the people who live and work in those spaces. There’s an underlying need to create simplicity and a sense of peace and harmony in all the interiors that I have the honor of creating, and woven into that is this rich tapestry of other cultures and places that hold home as sanctuary…sacred space.” Above — The master bedroom is a very personal expression of Lisa’s passion for Asian antiques and tropical lifestyle. The carved poster bed and chest are from Ralph Lauren. The Aboriginal painting over the bed is titled “Dreamtime,” and was acquired on a trip to Australia many years ago. Brazilian chestnut hardwood floors throughout the private areas have a calming and grounding effect in the spacious interiors. The very large Chinese armoire and beautifully carved bench are from the Lovettos’ private collection.

Architect Carl Erickson design pays particular attention to the mass and scaling of the frontal features. “We wanted a small footprint and a wide view,” recalls Tom Potter of Potter Homes. A slight asymmetry adds a touch of wit and playfulness. The exterior is constructed of siding from James Hardie™ with Miratec trim, guaranteeing shelter from coastal storms. Impact resistant doors and windows remove the need for hurricane shutters. An open staircase sweeps around the north side of the home and the ground floor foyer contains both an elevator and internal staircase. “It’s all about the view” states Potter, describing the first floor great room. By merging kitchen, dining room, and family room, the space is kept open, allowing the homeowner to stand anywhere to appreciate the splendor of the beach through the many glass doors and windows. Multiple pocketed sliding glass doors allow wide access to Gulf breezes and lead to a lanai equipped with motorized retractable insect screening for those rare nights when it’s needed. The white porcelain tile flooring was specified and supplied by Abbey Carpet & Floor of Naples, who coordinated the entire finish selection with Freestyle Interiors. “We provided and installed all of the tile, wood, carpet,” adds Josh Skinner of Abbey Carpet & Floor of Naples. The interior design is a transitional style that combines nautical and beach motifs with bold primary colors. “It is a stylized Cape Cod,” explains Blake. “Only, instead of being full of antiques, this home is full of bright, fun, little treasures.” The traditional nautical color palette of white and blue mimics the home’s surroundings, but is refashioned with the addition of exciting red and yellow accents. Polished nickel light fixtures glimmer like the waves beyond and keep the design modern. The kitchen, as well as all of the other rooms of the home, feature custom-designed cabinetry by Vincent Tormey of DKS Distinctive Kitchen Studio. These solid maple cabinets, with their vertical lines hinting at an

informal beadboard style, complement the relaxed atmosphere of the overall design while maintaining the highest level of craftsmanship. Most of the cabinetry is painted in the classic white with chrome hardware. However, according to Blake’s request, the sidebar is finished in a daring red to enhance her interior design. “When first presented with the design, I was unsure about the red. It’s a very unusual request for cabinetry,” reveals Tormey. “However, once it was in, it looked spectacular. It really brings excitement to the space.” The kitchen is furnished with chrome plumbing and KitchenAid appliances, provided by Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. Behind the sinks and gas range there is a backsplash of blue and white tumbled glass tiles that seem like they could have been brought in from the beach. “It is refreshing to see these beachside homes focusing on bringing the beauty of outside elements into the home. It is a perfect example of an open floor plan, bringing in light and incredible views of the natural environment. Clean lines, simple textures, and light colors give you a sense of calmness and serenity,” states Beth Ann Tuyls of United Materials, Inc. Contemporary chrome pendants illuminate the breakfast bar. Even the countertop granite contains traces of blue, maintaining the design consistency.

The red side bar connects kitchen to dining space, where Blake’s design continues to employ blue, white, and yellow in the custom cushions, window treatments, and table setting. The unique chandelier above the dining table is chosen to supplement the design and provide adequate lighting, yet hang in such a way as to minimize the interruption to the view of the beach. The master suite encompasses the entire second floor, creating an additional level of retreat for the homeowner. The floor plan presses the master bathroom to the front of the home, towards the street, allowing the west wall of the master bedroom to open fully to the gulf. The exemplary collaboration between Potter Homes, Freestyle Interiors, and DKS Distinctive Kitchen Studio can be seen in the seamless design and construction of the master bathroom’s vanity space. Tormey’s modified beadboard design for the cabinetry is continued here, with added elements of Shaker style, such as decorative feet. This style is carried upward through Potter’s custom moldings and built in medicine cabinets. Brass finished plumbing elements and matching vanity sconces bring in just a touch of yellow and red, while the walls are a vibrant blue. Plantation shutters maintain privacy, while still allowing the morning sunrise to fill the room. Sliding pocket doors leading to a second floor balcony bestow the master bedroom with one of the greatest views of the sunset on the Southwest coast. White oak floors and a ceiling that reveals its beams and planks hearken back to an “old Florida” casual style. The modified beadboard style wainscoting connects with the cabinetry in the remainder of the home.

Balanced on either side of the master bedroom are smaller step-up “his and hers” nook areas, approximately eight foot square, for occasions when further solitude is desired. One is equipped as a small study or den, with a writing desk and bookcase, while the other is furnished with a comfortable window seat. And consistent with the home’s concept, each of these nooks has its own great view of the beach. As is his habit, Potter worked closely with environmental authorities to maintain and restore the native wildlife and vegetation. With the assistance of Christian Andrea of Architectural Land Design, the home is surrounded with plant species that provide privacy, add beauty, and leave the dune habitat intact.

The result of this collaboration between developer Kitson & Partners, residential designer Dan Sater, Fox Custom Builders, and Clive Daniel Home, is an original masterpiece that provides open, fresh interiors and simple, elegant details, in a transitional French chic style. While remaining true to Talis Park’s characteristic Tuscan feel, the exterior of the home uses subtle elements, such as Asian-inspired brick patterns and lighting fixtures, to hint at the innovative treasures inside. A front courtyard also sets it apart from other homes in the community, defining a distinctly welcoming entry space. Entering the home, one is presented with an unobstructed view through the entry hallway to a backdrop southern exposure of swimming pool, golf course, and nature preserve. “We are particularly proud of the open and airy feeling of the interior,” states Nicole Fox of Fox Custom Builders. This effect is maintained throughout the construction and design by the integration of large windows, vertical accents, and the continuous reflection of light off of mirrors, marble, and glass. “But, it’s all the little architectural details that make this home so special,” adds Fox. Some of those “little details” include the crisp architectural lines, extensive Queen Beige polished travertine marble, smooth paint finishes, and casement windows—a feature uncommon to Florida homes. 140

For the Clive Daniel Home’s design team of Chad Elkins and Kelley Bridwell, the greatest influence for this project comes from the Chinese Chippendale style, which can be seen in every part of the home through its replication of simple, elegant geometric patterns. The most original application of this influence can be seen in the ceiling designs. “We decided to take the classic Chinese Chippendale motif, expand and exaggerate it, and place it on the ceiling,” explains Bridwell. “As a fan of this traditional historic style,” shares Elkins. “I can say that I’ve never seen it applied to a ceiling in this way. This is entirely fresh and new.” “The entryway marble is the inspiration for the color palette,” imparts Bridwell. “The use of neutral colors through every element of the design maintains unity and allows the owner to create their own color in the space.” This approach is revealed in the eclectic choice of metal fixtures and furnishings, the use of mirrors and glass, and the selection of fabric patterns, furthering the blend of the traditional and the modern. The beauty of the home’s outdoor surroundings is brought graciously into the living room through wide glass panes and the placement of natural adornments, such as the rustic coffee table. A built-in entertainment system rests against a crisp and classy polished tile wall. Tall vertical niches introduce a pattern of rectangular symmetry found throughout the home and accentuate the sense of vibrant, airy space.

The rectangular sequences are repeated and reinforced within the dining room walls and ceiling. “Dining here is a unique experience,” describes Elkins. “The facing mirrors and wide view of the outdoors creates a wonderful sense of open space as light and image is reflected around the room.” The kitchen provides stylish clean appeal in the continuance of neutral colors, with surprise amber accents to delight the eye. Specialty glass tile backsplashes add energy to the space and enhance the height of the original Clive Daniel Home cabinetry design. A central countertop and bar allow for ease of both culinary endeavors and casual entertaining. Within the study, traditional and modern features fuse in a distinctive and cozy charm. The home’s exclusive ceiling design is repeated here above French oak floors, continuing the play of light and dark tones. Over the double glass exterior doors, an upper transom window invites the eye upward towards an open sky. The selection of eclectic metal, wood, and stone furnishings, along with photographs of Old Naples, establishes a singular sense of place and time.

The exceptional level of craftsmanship revealed in the home does not stop with the main living areas, though. “One of the nice touches to this home is that the guest rooms are not forgotten—each one is given a wonderful view and its own special courtyard,” states Hillman. “The exceptional collaboration and thorough attention to detail makes this home complete for all who step inside.”

Natural Beauty Cool breezes and cheerful sunlight flow easily through a spacious hideaway of casual, semi-formal Florida living. Facing west to welcome golden sunsets and located on one of Naples’ widest and most stunning canals, the home is carefully situated to conceal its considerable size of 7,361 square feet, including 4,812 square feet under air and a massive 8-car garage. Through the collaborative handiwork of developer G.O. Thornhill of Salem Homes and the design team of Jeffrey and Deborah Fisher of Jeffrey Fisher Home, along with the craftsmanship of fabulous Naples artisans such as Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring, this home combines the elements of both luxury and leisure into the very definition of Florida class. Upon approach, the home reveals a distinctly Floridian feel in its understated elegance. “We wanted to create a home that expresses quality and excellence without being overwhelming,” states Thornhill. “Through custom designing a floor plan that is deeper than it is wide, and by fitting the home on the property in a natural manner, we were able to

Through the grand wood doorway, the foyer leads directly into the living room, a space defined by both symmetry and style. Matching sets of furnishings—sofas, trees, tables, and sconces— imbue the space with a sense of formality. This is balanced comfortably by a plethora of large

pillows, a playful color scheme, and plenty of open space. The walls are papered in a 5” neutral stripe wallpaper from Farrow & Ball that continues onto the ceiling. Two identical oversized mirrors hang above each sofa reflecting the wooden chandelier. “And to prove we didn’t want to take the room too seriously, we anchored all the furniture with a sea grass rug,” describes Deborah Fisher. “With the interiors of this home,” relates Fisher, “we strike a balance between casual and semi-formal living. Often times in Naples, it’s the purchasers second or third home. We believe it’s important to not recreate the interior of their other homes, but rather provide familiar elements of quality that make new homeowners feel immediately comfortable and relaxed.” The dining room reinforces this paradox of comfort and elegance with the hardwood table and slipcovered chairs. The splendor of the outdoors is drawn in with the placement of a large mirror over the buffet. These comforts rest on exquisite French white oak floors that extend throughout the home. “Each piece is carefully chosen and custom crafted, board-by-board,” explains Arturo Guido of Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring, a 5th generation artisan company dating back to the late 1800s. “We

treat each board with a furniture finish, accentuating the thin grain and bringing out the unique, organic wonder of the wood,” explains Guido. The spacious kitchen boasts a large central countertop, top-of-the-line appliances, and an abundance of cabinetry. “There is plenty of space to allow for ease of movement,” says Thornhill. “Whether cooking breakfast for two or hosting a party, it is easy to manage.” The great room, which leads directly to the outdoor living space, is another comfortable gathering area for family and friends. Comfortable furniture and fun colors invite residents to put their feet up and read a good book. Plenty of space and seating encourages friends to stop by and watch a game or join in a movie night. “Deb and I believe in designing for how people live,” shares Fisher, “while at the same time, curating a look for how they’ve always wanted to live.” The master suite is purposely spacious and sparse, letting the occupants of the room wake up every morning and feel like they’re on holiday. The color palette of blues and greens used in the other rooms continues here, with the emphasis on blue. The exquisiteness of the oak flooring is mirrored

Authentic inspiration Located in a private country club community, and currently on the market for $2,395,000, Grande Cypress is a single story luxury home in Quail West that pays tribute to both old and new, traditional and contemporary, in a clean, classic, timeless way. Incorporating the relaxed milieu of beachside living with the sleek refinement of an upscale resort lifestyle, it blends the best of both worlds for a distinct sophistication that is fresh, invigorating and full of life. Elongated windows, tile roof, covered entry, turret tower, custom-designed front door, and smooth sand-colored stucco exterior, all contribute to a pleasing balance between varying elements that is streamlined and clean. “The architectural styling in our market place used to be very heavy MediterreanTuscan with Gothic tones, and this home has shifted away from that into a design defined by sleek styling, straight lines, high quality materials, exceptional value, and an overall updated appeal,” explains Bill Spinelli, President/Owner of Titan Homes, LLC. To that end, the award-winning team at Cinnabar Design collaborated with Titan Homes to create architectural details and backgrounds that are more transitional in style. The Cinnabar team fashioned their vision around a popular cluster of hamlets located on the east end of Long Island, New York, known for a way of life that is enduring, effortless and exclusive. “We were inspired by the simple grace and understated luxury of the Hamptons,

and translated it into the grandeur that exemplifies the Naples lifestyle,” says Diana Hall, Partner and Principal of Cinnabar Design. Laurie Walter, Co-Partner and Principal, agrees, “Our purpose was to design a home that reflects the casual elegance that this community embodies.” The interior is entirely finished in varying tones of “taupey grey” for a monochromatic effect that reflects a soothing, calm serenity while serving as a lovely backdrop to what can only be described as a masterpiece. Upon entry, one is immediately awe-struck by a spectacular 20-foot-high dining room rotunda located to the right of the front foyer. Showcasing a custom-designed vaulted-beam ceiling, and leather-finished strie-marble floor in a concentric herringbone pattern that mimics hardwood, the effect is breathtaking. An abundance of windows provides plenty of natural light while also accentuating the room’s height. A weathered-wood Lillian August dining table with a textured iron base, classic chairs in a dune finish with nail-head detail, and 42-inch Foucault-inspired chandelier in a brushed silver leaf, complete the look for a striking effect. In the living room, a remarkable fireplace clad in a suede-finished quartzite with a faux-cerused oak mantel, serves as a stunning focal point. Wall niches on either side not only reflect the same pattern as seen in the coffered ceiling, but serve to anchor the space by creating a satisfying symmetry. “The architectural details are what give the Grande Cypress model that ‘grand’ presence that make this home so

unique and unforgettable,” explains Elizabeth Gonzalez, Designer, Cinnabar Design. A custom designed coffee table in a brushed silver leaf finish, gorgeous hand-knotted wool area rug in a stylized mineraltoned damask pattern, and graceful chandelier with crystal teardrops, add to the room’s magnetic allure. Serving as the daily social centerpiece of the home, the kitchen is executed to perfection. Large, diagonallyset porcelain tile flooring, cream glazed-finished cabinetry, brushed-satin nickel hardware, quartzite countertops and a porcelain subway tile backsplash, come together seamlessly for an atmosphere that is upscale but homey. Ceiling-high glass fishtail mullion doors, retro-style pendant lights, an oversized espresso-stained maple center island with a large farmer’s sink, and disguised double refrigerator, all contribute to an inspired design where functionality and aesthetic appeal blend as one. The impressive wine room is another eye-catching addition that not only serves as an exciting conversation piece, but is as useful as it is attractive. With 12-foot-high ceilings, a herringbone-patterned travertine floor, 400-bottle capacity, and large display window, it is a wine enthusiast’s dream come true. Making the open-concept living area even more inviting is a spacious family room connected to the kitchen, which opens out to the backyard deck and pool. With an intriguing “X-Y-Z-patterned” coffered ceiling, driftwood-gray built-in, and relaxed, casual seating, this space is generous enough to host a large reception, while still maintaining an air of intimacy appropriate for informal gatherings.

Retiring to the study, one cannot help but admire the handsome presentation. Walls dressed in a geometric wood panel design with ostrich patterned wallpaper, cerused oak floors, and beamed tray ceiling, come together for a warm, rich, erudite ambiance. A two-toned bamboo area rug, slate grey built-in, and rustic oak-finished desk, make for an arresting result. Opening out to a private terrace, lush foliage surrounds, and captivating golf course views abound. As much as the library instills a sense of exploration and debate, the master bedroom suite evokes a mood of quietude and tranquility. While another extraordinary ceiling treatment draws the eyes upward, a damask-patterned Masland carpet adds warmth and texture underfoot. Two mirrored chests with matching mercury glass lamps, a convex sunburst mirror, a pair of cushy chairs in an ikat fabric, and striking champagne-finished drum pendant chandelier, all serve to complement a space that is lavish yet comfortable. Presented in a chic colonnade gray and traditionally inspired, the master bath is an entrancing retreat. Featuring Carrera marble flooring and countertops, a free-standing Signature Hardware soaking tub, double vanity with inset doors, large walk-in shower with mosaic inlay, and charming wainscoting treatment, it embodies an engaging gracefulness that is simple and classic.

The family room continues in the same vein, but with a more casual application as is witnessed by the bolder patterns and French white oak floors. An inspiring mix of accessories completes the look for an effect that is richly appointed without feeling cluttered or overdone. The kitchen bar chairs are upholstered in the same vibrant fabrics as seen in the family room, incorporating a pleasing consistency while still maintaining a sense of vitality. Frosted glass accents with up-lights enhance the height of the room while gorgeous ivory-grey granite countertops, a mixed mosaic backsplash, and highend appliances and fixtures, coordinate seamlessly for an upbeat look that’s invigorating. “It has balance with a universal appeal,” expresses Bob Ostrowski, Senior Designer and Partner, AlliKristé Custom Cabinetry and Kitchen Design. “It’s a transitional kitchen that combines the best of traditional styling with clean, modern design to set the trend-defying tone…straight lines and sleek styling.” Synthesizing an espresso finished center island 192

with white cabinet perimeter creates a mix that is fresh and exciting. With the kitchen operating as the heart of the home, the fusing of colors and finishes adds a joie de vivre that is irresistible. Chic, original, and a little retro, one might mistake the guest bedroom for an upscale boutique hotel suite. The oatmeal linen tufted wing bed with nail head detailing, antique-inspired sunburst mirror, and fabulous medallion-patterned draperies in a cotton Schumacher fabric, set the tone for a lavish boudoir experience in an absolutely luscious setting. Two Moroccan chests, pair of nickel polished lamps, and Dea fine Italian bed linens, finish the room off perfectly. The master suite features a custom wood detailing that is whimsical, charming and imaginative. A series of custom framed antique ivory-carved-collectibles above the bed further accentuate the repeated box design. Plush bed linens and silk throw pillows adorn a handsome four poster bed flanked by mirrored chests and sleek column lamps. A pair of gray silk Draper chairs, Asian inspired desk, and delicate chandelier with crystal teardrops, coalesce with ease. Like the rest of the home, versatile components are graciously incorporated in a definitively cohesive way for an overall design that is as reminiscent as it is timeless.

curb appeal Located in the Moorings, this elegant West Indies inspired home has been created to make an impact. Impressive exterior features such as wood stained brackets around the roof, a natural stone entry, and a beautiful display of plantings, create curb appeal and an inviting overall presence. The home’s powerful presentation is the result of a dynamic collaboration of industry professionals, each with an intricate knowledge of what today’s homeowner is seeking. “I have been building my entire life, and every time I complete a project I feel this sense of accomplishment and reward, knowing I have built someone’s dream home,” says Builder Matt Knauf from the Knauf–Koenig Group. Developed as a speculative project without a specific owner in mind, decisions had to be made that would appeal to a wide audience. “We wanted a home that had a timeless design that would reflect the ‘new traditional’ of today’s lifestyle,” says Rhett Josey, Interior Designer for Clive Daniel Home. Working alongside design partner Chad Elkins, Josey chose to use an organic coastal aesthetic and energy as the driving force behind the project. “Our background selection allowed the homeowner/developer the creative direction they needed for the project,” describes Elkins, also of Clive Daniel Home. As a true testament to the design team, the day after all the furnishings were installed, a contract was written on the property.

Weathered woods, easy, comfortable upholstery, and soft tones popped with watery hues fill the great room. Recessed based Saratoga sofas, designed by Thom Filicia for Vanguard Furniture, are linen, cotton and wool in a neutral sand-colored fabric juxtaposed with navy mohair and sea glass-covered raw-silk. A weathered driftwood coffee table by Caracole is unique in that it actually has a leaf allowing it to be extended for entertaining. The splendid, vaulted ceiling is tongue-and-groove cypress wood with a custom stain. Beautiful jade-toned Murano glass balls sitting atop a zigzag bookcase from Noir, introduce a pleasing, yet subtle, contrast. Of course, every room’s design starts with the optimal canvas. To achieve a remarkable backdrop for these fine furnishings, designers turned to the artisans at Legno Bastone for a breathtaking European white oak flooring. This organic, luxury product is designed to be distinctive—no two floors are the same. “We start with a custom smoking process that brings the natural tannin in the wood to the surface—then apply a blended oil by hand,” describes Arturo Guido, Principal of Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring. The addition of a handtufted New Zealand wool rug creates the perfect anchor to the room, unifying everything without being busy. But the area’s exclamation mark comes from

A combination of tone, texture and board length create the perfect overall balance for the great room’s striking European white oak flooring – while comfortable, allcotton lounge chairs from Fairfield Furniture Company feature a cream and celadon fretwork pattern that blends seamlessly with the natural feel of the space. the distinctive, silver-leaf, metal drum shade hanging above the sofas. “This Worlds Away chandelier accentuates the room just as a lovely necklace highlights a beautiful woman,” adds Josey. In the kitchen, the glass accents are stronger and deeper in color to incorporate the citron and blue/green tones from the great room pillows. Sea Pearl Quartzite countertops from Classic Stone offer the translucence of jade, giving the counters the appearance of semiprecious stones. But beauty isn’t the only thing this high-end kitchen offers, it also delivers supreme functionality. The home boasts eyecatching additions such as a 36” dual-fuel range and 48” built-in Sub-Zero refrigerator. The room’s fully integrated, duel-zoned wine storage unit will hold up to 136 bottles of wine at exact temperatures— readying the homeowner for a full-scale party at a moment’s notice. And just to make sure this home is literally “cooking with steam,” the kitchen is outfitted with one of the hottest appliances on the market today—a convection steam oven. “The convection steam oven from Wolf is fantastic for healthy cooking, reheating, defrosting and slow cooking. They are quickly becoming a staple for high-end kitchens,” says Gregory Bennett from Ferguson Enterprises. The palatial master bathroom is designed to indulge. Opulent marble flooring combined with the sparkle and shine of an elaborate chandelier, add glamour to the spa-like space. All cabinetry in the home was custom-fitted for each area by Ruffino Cabinetry in their state-of-the-art factory located in Fort Myers. “The cabinetry was styled

with transitional detailing in order to keep the look very clean and timeless,” says Stephen Christopher Ruffino, the company’s vice president. The room’s grand style shower features a vertical racetrack waterfall that races across the shower floor and up the opposite wall. Accent tile consists of tumbled limestone with metal inserts, adding visual appeal. The master bedroom comes to life with the use of a unique bed by Noir that offers a contemporary take on the spindle bed. To further encourage the room’s pampering properties, a sensuous silk and viscose rug adds softness and texture. Luxurious linens from Mario & Marielena adorn the bed and reflect an ethereal presence. “The study is my favorite room in the house because of the scale of the room and the incredible light that streams in the windows in the late afternoon,” says Josey. To fill the room, designers chose a limed wood Bento desk by Artistica with vintage lamps flanking each side. Above it hangs an original

The Brighton Nestled within the luxury country club community of Quail West is London Bay Home’s Brighton model, a grand estate that combines an artful mix of chic and classic American tradition. This new model from London Bay is 6,326 square feet under air, featuring four bedrooms, five and one half baths, great room, dining room, family room, kitchen with cafe area, and study. With the addition of an outdoor pool, spa, full pool bathroom, and master retreat, as well as two separate two-car garages, the total square footage is just under an impressive 10,000 square feet. Fully furnished by Romanza Interior Design, London Bay’s award-winning in-house design studio, the Brighton boasts classic Florida golf club luxury. The exterior of the home is inspired by a combination of classic coastal and British colonial motifs, with vibrant yellow stucco and matching hunter green shutters and three French doors, beyond a white courtyard gate. Stained tongue-and-groove ceilings cap the entry, loggia, and outdoor living areas including a side courtyard with a water feature off the study. Transitional exterior lighting, provided by Lynne Stambouly of Lighting First’s Specialty Lighting Division, allude to the modern mixing of style within.

A foyer with adjacent galleries, defined by a rhythm of multiple columns, leads toward the great room and living quarters. The living and dining area are surrounded by six French doors that allow for an abundance of natural light. The main floors are an off-white marble with chiseled edges, installed in an ashlar pattern. “An outfit is not complete without the proper jewelry, belt and shoes,” illustrates Melissa Allen of Romanza Interior Design. “A cake is not complete without the icing; a home is not complete unless the artwork and accessories are done well and appropriately for the home’s design intent.” The intent of this design, a balance of rustics and refinement, is clearly realized in the great room. A serene palette of neutral creams, and cinnamon, emphasized with silver and gold highlights, add warmth to a multitude of textural accessories. The Westbury Triple Tier Chandelier in natural brass by Ralph Lauren Home at MP Interiors is suspended from a ceiling patterned by box beams adjoined with wood purlins.

The room’s large wraparound sectional and seating area is positioned to allow for simultaneous enjoyment of both the fireplace and the customconstructed entertainment center by Old Biscayne Designs. Mediterranean Moonlight Our homes provide us shelter and safety, but the mark of an exceptional home is when it has lovingly been transformed into an oasis for our spirits. So it is with this Spanish Mediterranean inspired home designed by MAS Design and Planning. Majestic and refined, one look at the exterior invites guests to leave the tensions of the world behind. Carefully crafted by Imperial Custom Homes of Naples, the outer detailing of the home—with its barrel-tiled roof, window shutters, and heavy iron and mahogany double doors—are reminiscent of an upscale resort located on the sublime shores of the Mediterranean. The home is located in The Colony Golf & Bay Club, a master planned community being developed by WCI Communities. Posh Bismarck and Sylvester palms flank the entrance, while Italian cypress leads down the side drive and across the front of the home. Pops of color in the vegetation and an ivycovered wall create a charming garden shaped by the landscape experts at Bello Paradise of Naples.

The curb appeal of this Spanish Mediterranean home makes a huge impact – but inside, more surprises await. Attention has lovingly been paid to every detail. HomeAndDesign.net

The true masterminds behind the fusing of elements are Renee Moore and Kirk Kaalberg, the home’s owners. Moore, who has been a luxury real estate agent in Southwest Florida for sixteen years, has turned her passion for homes into an outlet for unbridled creativity. Along with Kaalberg, the two have seen to it that every detail has been lovingly crafted, creating a welcoming home that encourages casual entertaining. “We love to cook and grill, so a comfortable outdoor living space was essential for us,” says Moore. The home’s open floor plan reinforces this desire. To promote a feeling of spaciousness, the flooring of the living room ties into the flooring of a larger, connected outdoor living area. A custom taupe, linen sofa by Lee Jofa and Habersham entertainment center serve to draw visitors together for conversation and fellowship. “We’re passionate about our own design,” says Moore, as evidenced by an array of unique and eclectic artwork collected throughout the couple’s travels. Most impressively, the living room is topped by an elaborate hexagonal ceiling which has been crafted in dark woods, adding a heightened elegance to the comfortable room.

Just inside the foyer, a dark-iron chandelier holds an earthy appeal, while not being overly formal. Luxurious Dorado stone flooring with a natural mosaic inset adds drama to the entryway. A lovely botanical centerpiece, with pops of purple and white, sits atop a dark turtle table that integrates perfectly with the room’s wood beamed ceiling. “Kirk actually grows the orchids and makes the floral arrangements himself,” adds Moore. The addition of decorative-iron wall accents adds a pleasing texture to the space. The home’s warm and rich kitchen has an inviting quality that encourages culinary creativity. Dark wood cabinets from Artistic Cabinetry of Naples feature a hidden pantry, shelving for the homeowner’s collection of cookbooks, and a remote controlled television that rises out of the island and swivels 360 degrees. Custom granite countertops finished with a triple edge add refinement. Paneled Sub-Zero refrigeration, three ovens and a Wolf cooktop are sure to bring out the gourmet chef in anyone. The room’s appliances were procured from Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery. “The best part of my job is getting out of the showroom and showing clients what these premium appliances can really do once they’re installed,” says Gregory Bennett from Ferguson.

The home’s kitchen features top-of-the-line Sub-Zero & Wolf appliances, a large island with chef’s sink, and triple-edged granite countertops. 238

A dark wood beamed ceiling and custom-made table with leather and upholstered chairs, draw guests into the dining room. Aqua blue draperies tie into the pleasing colors of a large peacock portrait, as well as glass accents upon the table. For something unexpected, John Comito of Elemental Stone crafted a custom koi pond off the dining room, enhancing the peaceful setting. A one-of-a-kind, distressed pine china cabinet offers interest and contrast. The custom, faux-finished master bath exudes a soothing quality. The room features a soaking tub and large shower with wrap-around seating area. Plentiful windows and a barrel ceiling make the room ultra-distinctive. The combination of elaborate tile work, fresh floral arrangements and pops of blue accent, create a serene sanctuary.

coastal modernism “Form ever follows function”… The famous axiom by American Architect Louis Sullivan became a defining premise for many. The idea that the design of a building should reflect its purpose started a wave of exploration resulting in some of the most popular and revered architectural creations of our time. 575 Palm Circle West in Olde Naples, is a prime example of a home designed for a particular lifestyle; a cohesive meshing of coastal and modern influences fused together effortlessly. The islandinspired exterior with flawless stucco facade, standing seam metal roof, attractive window shutter treatment, mahogany-slatted front door, and lush landscaping, creates a pristine yet inviting appeal that corresponds beautifully with the surrounding natural elements.

This two-story coastal beauty boasts 3,276 square feet of effortless living space that includes four bedrooms, four baths, two half baths, a mud room, laundry, pantry, pool/spa, indoor and outdoor fireplace and kitchen, covered lanais, balcony, and two-car garage. HomeAndDesign.net

“It was a remodel we completed last year in conjunction with the owner and the architect,” says Mike Assaad, owner of Waterside Builders. “We stripped it down to concrete, built additions, re-framed sections, got rid of various exterior walls, and incorporated some great components—powder coated aluminum railings, a cedar bracket system, and travertine pool decking,” concludes Assaad. Matthew Kragh, owner of MHK Architecture and Planning agrees. “It’s truly unique as both the front and back of the house face a street. We call it ‘the house with two fronts,’ and we really took that into consideration when we were designing it. One of my favorite exterior elements is the solid mahogany front door… its weight, size, and presence create an instantaneous sense of quality.” For homeowner and interior designer Maggie Crosby, it’s a dream come true. “I wanted to blend coastal architecture on the exterior with a progressive/ modern influence on the interior; an open floor plan that reflects what Naples means to us, the sunsets, the beach, the art galleries—clean and simple—but very livable, relaxed, easy, and low maintenance.” Inside, an abundance of windows reflecting light off of crisp white walls creates the perfect backdrop for a mix of polished and textured surfaces, organic components and striking artwork. High ceilings, spacious rooms, and a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living spaces further accentuate a sweeping sense of translucency.

Disappearing pocket sliders allow the living room to open up completely to include outdoor living areas. In addition, pocket screens on lanai offer additional coverage when desired. The modern cobalt blue seashell photography is sourced from J Mark Modern Home in Naples. HomeAndDesign.net

The main living area, with a 16-foot-high ceiling and handsome French oak hardwood floors, is bright and airy, offering open access to the outdoor lanai. Clerestory windows in the front and back of the house are the exact same height, so light is evenly transmitted throughout. An impressive 12-foot-high tumbled onyx fireplace, two fur-tufted poofs, round resin coffee table, and pair of pale blue leather chairs create a glamorous vibe while still maintaining a sense of casual comfort. Vivid blue shell-inspired photographs and orange and green throw pillows provide perfect pops of color for offsetting an otherwise neutral palette in a way that’s fun, exciting and reflective of the great outdoors. “I incorporated the essence of Naples through the accessories, embellishments and finishes,” explains Crosby. “Every color, shape and texture was very specifically selected to that end.” The dining room, featuring an eye-catching tongue-and-groove tray ceiling, connects the living room to the kitchen with a sense of ease and graciousness. “We utilized this ceiling treatment in both the dining room and kitchen to identify the individual spaces, so while the main living areas are all open concept, they are appropriately balanced at the same time,” defines Kragh. A dramatic polished nickel and glass starburst chandelier, mother-of-pearl framed mirror, driftwood colored dining table with chrome base, and sand-colored linen slip-covered chairs (on castors for ease of movement), are all reminiscent of

The oversized Jonathan Adler sputnik chandelier, 106-inch-long Bernhardt Interiors dining table, buffet console with chagrin finish, marble lamps, and 4 by 6 foot long commissioned sunset seascape by Diane French, are all proportionately large pieces showcased for maximum effect in a relaxed and comfortable setting. natural elements that exude a coastal charm with a modern twist. “In addition, I like to support local artists, so you can see on the opposite wall reflected in the mirror, a pastel on wood artwork featuring a sunset….the overall effect is subtle, but comfortable, not cold,” adds Crosby. The idea of meticulous design is never more apparent than in the kitchen. White, bright, and sparkling with glass orb pendulum lights, quartz countertops and opalescent glass mosaic tile backsplash, it dazzles the senses. “We wanted to create an elegant and sophisticated feel that was clean, but not stark,” elaborates Chris Hylemon, Director of Hyland Custom Cabinetry. “The custom designed cabinets are styled with a raised band detail, fully finished end panels, and horizontal hardware for a streamlined, functional effect, with a matte finish to contrast the sheen on the countertops. The windows stand alone, and all of the high-end appliances are full flush inset.” A mix of high gloss and texture continues in the master bedroom. An upscale king-size bed with leather headboard and chrome frame, mirrored end tables, key lime colored lamps, seat-belt-strap rocking chair, and linen covered bureau all contribute to an interesting mix of surfaces and materials that complement each other amazingly well.

Tongue-and-groove tray ceiling, large scale center island, glass pendulum fixtures with metal mesh cone interiors reminiscent of tulip trees, and leather and chrome swivel bar stools, all contribute to a space that is as functional as it is stunning. Lighting from the kitchen, master bedroom, and dining console are from Bernhardt. The colorful glass accessories are sourced from International Design Source in Naples. 254

The master bath is luxurious with double sinks, jetted tub, quartz counter tops, and Italian porcelain tile flooring. “I wanted something under foot with an aggressive edge that was newer and fresher than marble,” clarifies Crosby. A series of three dimensional brushed sea urchin wall sculptures and stunning cabinetry add luster and dimension. “The cabinetry is grey dyed rift white oak with a white ceruse grain fill for an effect that is progressive, but not trendy,” describes Hylemon. Hard edges, extra thick columns, and perfectly balanced lines truly define the outdoor space. “The architectural massing we incorporated was inspired by the Robb & Stucky International building we completed downtown,” explains Kragh. “An excellent design example, simply and smartly executed for residential purposes, with high quality materials.”

French doors open out to a covered lanai featuring a lovely custom trellis that creates shadows from the setting sun and casts them back into the bedroom for a magical effect. Below — Understated but elegant, it is in the subtle details where the greatest impact lies. Grey veining in the quartz countertop and Italian porcelain floor tile add sophistication, ceruse custom cabinetry gives depth and dimension, and high-end chrome fixtures and horizontal hardware set the tone for a sleek, streamlined ambiance.

There truly is no place like this home, and I never want to leave.”

Casual elegance Olde Naples radiates an irresistible draw that is quite compelling. The glorious weather, close proximity to the beach, Gulf, restaurants and shopping, a lively cultural atmosphere beaming with art galleries and boutiques, and an invigorating community, all contribute to its magical allure. But perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of this iconic neighborhood is the architectural integrity of the homes and buildings that line its streets; a blending of old and new, in an authentic, original, and timeless way. Located one block off Fifth and less than one block from the beach, with water views from the second floor lanai, this 4,626-square-foot property on Gulf Shore Boulevard South, epitomizes all that Olde Naples has to offer. “It’s a cleaner version of British West Indies with a bit of a tropical spin,” says Scott Weidle, COO, BCB Homes, Inc. “Obviously, the coastal look is very popular here so the outside is in keeping with Olde Naples historical, but the interior has a more transitional/contemporary vibe… and clearly, the locale couldn’t be better.” John Cooney, Partner of Stofft Cooney Architects agrees. “The opportunity to design a current day West Indies home with transitional features was exciting as it has been an architectural trend in the area. This residence is an open entertaining plan that has an abundance of natural light with the indoor/outdoor living element evident throughout the home’s entirety.” A stucco exterior that closely mimics board and batten siding, concrete tile roof, large overhangs, porches and terraces, all add to the property’s distinct style. The commitment to incorporating high quality materials with advanced design strategies was paramount. “High efficiency air conditioning units and a closed attic system with icynene insulation contribute to a better quality of life while respecting the environment,” explains Weidle. “The windows, in particular, are the ultimate in performance glass. They reject the sun’s heat, and provide fade protection without sacrificing crystal clear visibility. So, you get great views, a cool home, and a lower utility bill to boot.”

This lovely home features a white stucco exterior with concrete tile roofing. There are four bedrooms, 4.5 baths, a 3-car garage, wine room, library, and elevator. HomeAndDesign.net

Once inside, a palette of soft warm grey with shades of blue, gold, celadon, and taupe seduce the senses and soothe the soul. “It’s coastal contemporary—the color scheme, European white oak floors, and harmonizing embellishments reflect the natural colors of the beach, sky, and ocean, as does the ensuing ambiance,” describes Lisa Ficarra, owner of Ficarra Design Associates. The living room opens up to the outdoor pool area while providing a graceful transition to the indoor bar and gourmet kitchen. Double step shallow wood detailing on either side of the fireplace offers a subtle but effective architectural accent. Kravet khaki-colored linen drapes with circle cut-outs, Swaim driftwood-finished coffee table displaying two John Richard glass sculpture figures, and Regina Andrew coral reef bowl, and Vanguard bar stools in a striped velour Romo fabric, take the setting full circle. “The centered fireplace with niches on either side required a certain equilibrium in utilizing the space to its best advantage. Balance plays a huge part throughout the home’s entirety,” clarifies Molly Grup, Interior Designer, Ficarra Design Associates. The kitchen showcases a gorgeous White Princess marbletopped island, white Pompeii quartz perimeter, and white Thassos marble subway tile backsplash with ceramic mosaic inlay over the stove top. The use of varying elements and textures was purposeful. “The mix of light cabinetry on the perimeter and darker cabinetry on the island renders the look and feel of a piece of furniture,” expresses Bob Ostrowski, Senior Designer and Partner, AlliKristé Custom Cabinetry and Kitchen Design. A built-in banquette covered in a paisley Schumacher fabric offers a unique and innovative dining alternative that complements the space beautifully. “Most clients today desire a more casual indoor dining experience in addition to outdoor options, so this was a perfect choice,” states Ficarra. Ostrowski concurs, “Kitchens need to be functional and aesthetically pleasing. This kitchen design and style lends to a transitional quality by ignoring the ‘rules’ and creating a flexible living space.” A tongue-and-groove coffered ceiling, aged-iron pendant lights from Visual Comfort, handsome

Global Views polished-nickel twig pendant chandelier and immediate access to outdoor living areas contribute to an overall sense of seamless sophistication and spaciousness. Hickory Chair ash-wood table with circular pedestals, and a Theodore Alexander coral tree centerpiece, complete the look for an effect that is as inventive as it is stunning. A textured wool area rug, Vanguard linen covered couch and chair, colorful throw pillows, IDS coffee table, and Soicher Marin seascape print reflect the colors and textures of natural elements, creating a perfect spot to kick back, relax, and unwind. The library ceiling features darker colored beams to create drama. Faux painted Venetian plaster on the walls adds an exciting depth and sheen, while individual furniture pieces offer a mix of finishes, materials, and fabrics that give the space an eclectic vibe that is unexpected but effective. Retreating to the 2nd floor, one discovers a pristinely executed master bath. Vaulted ceiling, shell stone flooring, Kohler soaking tub, seamless glass shower with glass tile mosaics in muted tones of grey, slate and blue, induce an enthralling Zen-like atmosphere. The home’s welcoming eat-in kitchen creates an inviting setting for guests to gather. Rattan framed McGuire chairs with hand-woven wicker backs add a touch of texture to the space. Natural quartzite countertops are accentuated by an elaborate hexagonal multi-stone backsplash that incorporates the room’s color palette in shades of sage green, pale mineral, and cerulean blue. Collins & DuPont obtained the tile from a local source, Tile Market of Naples. “Our custom mosaic manufacturer combines multiple different sizes and color combinations to accommodate most everyone’s backsplash, shower, fireplace, or waterline application. Stones are imported from around the world to create dynamic, eye appealing interests to the most discerning clients,” describes Darrin Boylan, owner of Tile Market of Naples.

In the dining room, an Originals 22 chandelier, made of hand-forged iron with a textured, white gesso finish, steals the stage. A Vantage Lighting Control System allows homeowners to set lighting levels throughout the house with the touch of a smart button.

“The client wanted to incorporate an informal tile mural to remind her of the beach,” explains Collins. To achieve this, Collins and Olinger brought in artist Christine Moore to create an original painting on the distinctive backsplash. This attention to stylistic detail is evident throughout the home. “We pride ourselves on a high level of detail and specification in order to help our clients express their vision,” says Collins. The tranquil dining room evokes more thoughts of the sea. An Originals 22 chandelier, inspired by underwater coral, creates the perfect tie-in with Holly Hunt draperies featuring an abstract coral print in mineral blues. Stunning selenite crystal candles line the table surrounded by McGuire and Walters wicker chairs, lending to the room’s relaxed and informal feel.

The serene master bath has a luxurious curved tub that flows with the form of the ceiling and is embellished with beautiful mirrored niches. Custom designed marble inlays elevate the room’s elegance. The home boasts two showers, one inside and another private outdoor shower. The room’s quartzite countertop has subtle hues of sea green and blue. “Private and peaceful, the master bedroom—featuring an impressive vaulted ceiling—offers a welcome retreat from the homeowner’s active lifestyle,” adds Collins. A Century bed and Baker chaise encourage lounging, while the subtle sparkle of a Hart chandelier and sconces create a soothing environment. Cowtan & Tout fabrics continue the indulgence.

Right — The carpeted master bedroom comes complete with a morning bar, to encourage slowpaced weekends of rest and relaxation. Comfortable Century chairs with a blue ticking stripe add style and substance. Below — Slabs of elegant marble line the walls of the showers. The outdoor shower is constructed to offer complete privacy.

The inviting guest suite comes to life with vibrant color. Beautiful shades of mango and pomegranate are accompanied by kiwi and khaki accents. A king-sized Century bed is adorned with Osborne & Little fabrics and flanked by two Woodland night stands. The addition of a wicker chair brings warmth to the space and completes the welcoming atmosphere. The functional library bridge serves as the homeowner’s office. This room’s pleasing pear wall color is accentuated by custom oak flooring which possesses a varying tonality throughout. Striking pieces, such as the Currey chandelier made of shells and a Lane Venture coral-backed chair, keep the beach theme going. Plentiful built-in shelving provides both form and function.

Above — This guest suite features a private bath and fresh color palate. Painted and stained wood furnishings create an inviting cottage feel, highlighting a beautiful undulating upholstered headboard with light stained carved wood frame. Right — The library bridge serves as the perfect, informal office space for the homeowner. Fun yet functional, design elements such as a cut-velvet fabric ottoman in peacock colors and colorful artwork from Gustavo Castillo infuse the area with an air of distinction.

In this home, one doesn’t just have to imagine what it would feel like to unwind by the waterside. With a sun terrace on top, two mid-level balconies, plus left and right seating areas surrounding the sparkling pool, there are plenty of places to escape the cares of the world. A fully-equipped exercise room sits adjacent and is fitted with motorized shades and draperies. While the beauty of this home is apparent, what you can’t see is the care taken and innovation used by BCB Homes to provide both aesthetic impact and safety. Located in a flood zone, the entire first floor is constructed with breakaway walls to allow a potential tidal surge to pass under the habitable floors above. The crucial peace of mind provided heightens the enjoyment and relaxation of this gorgeous, well-designed home.
