Fargo Glass & Paint began as ‘The Friendly House’

Fargo Glass and Paint Company Founder, E.J. Schonberg was fond of calling his company “The Friendly House.” The son of Swedish immigrants, Schonberg founded the Fargo Plate Glass Company in 1917 with $10,000 of borrowed money and absolutely no experience in the glass business.

Proudly Distributed By With the notion that a company should be based on honesty, integrity, hard work, and treating people well, Schonberg’s “Friendly House” has continued to grow and change throughout the years by adding to the territory it covers, products it sells, and services that it can provide for its customers.

These attributes continue to be ingrained in our daily culture. We coach our employees on how they should treat customers and their co-workers.

We have a long-standing belief that the success of Fargo Glass and Paint Company is due to employees buying into the attributes the Company was founded on. It is also believed that the success of the Company should then be shared with employees who are key components in creating Company success. This Company belief of sharing with the employees came full circle in 2019 when Fargo Glass and Paint Company became 100% employee-owned.

Fargo Glass and Paint Company currently has five locations to serve its customer base throughout the upper Midwest. Headquartered in Fargo, ND, Fargo Glass and Paint Company has branches in Sioux Falls, SD, Minot and Bismarck, ND, along with a pro desk and a retail store located in Fargo.

We continue to provide a full line of commercial and residential glass products and services from estimation to installation in all locations. Our experienced staff serves a diverse customer base which includes business owners, architects, general contractors, and homeowners with the products and services they need to get their projects completed. Glass-related products and services consist of the sales and installation of glass, mirrors, custom shower doors, glass rails, automatic doors, commercial store fronts and high-rise curtain walls.

We have a wholesale division of specialty building products which includes commercial and residential windows, patio doors, steel and fiberglass residential doors, steel siding and roofs, house wraps, deck railings, paint and paint sundries, window blinds, flooring items and cabinets.

In 2021 we brought on a staff of experienced people and formed a fully owned division called TurnKey Solutions and Development, LLC. This division will be involved in collaborating with companies throughout the United States in the hospitality and commercial sector doing fitups, renovations, and ground-up construction. This will allow us not only to do business where we have not had a footprint before, but also to leverage existing products within those projects wherever they are.

With a staff of 170, we are dedicated to service! We have a team of experienced outside and inside salespeople who not only sell our products to our customers but help sell and support those products to the consumer.

We deliver the products we sell on our company-owned fleet of trucks, so our delivery is dependable and efficient. We have pre-finishing paint and stain capabilities within our Fargo and Sioux Falls facilities to provide the finished products our customer’s desire.

We put significant importance on providing ongoing product knowledge and software training for our customers, so they are comfortable and confident selling our products.

Chief Executive Officer Daniel Martinson adds, “In 2019 Fargo Glass and Paint partnered with Sierra Pacific Windows, which was not previously represented within our region, to provide a full line of wood, wood-clad, and vinyl windows and patio doors to our customers.

“Sierra Pacific has been a great fit as a partner as it is a familyowned business which is fully integrated from its forest land that is located along the northwest coast of the U.S. to their manufacturing plants in northern California, along with two locations in Wisconsin. “We believe this partnership will continue to grow into one of the region’s most recognizable names within a few short years.”
