When People Pay Their Monthly Bills

t’s a fact that everyone has utility and monthly bills: Electric, gas, cell phone, TV, Internet, and the list goes on. And no matter how financially
challenged or wealthy someone may be, these essential services are needed and can never be paid off; everyone will have to pay for these services for the rest of their lives out of necessity.
So when a global company is open in 24 countries worldwide and endorsed by one of the wealthiest people in the world, who features this company on his hit primetime reality TV show not once but twice, says you should find out more, would you want to hear more about it?
The way Shane has grown to be one of the top income earners and trainers in this business is by following the system the company offers all of its independent business owners (IBOs). He says that he tells people they can get the same services from the same major service providers, but get paid. Then, according to Shane, all he does is direct them to his online store, which is included in the companies start up business package.
What if this same company said they’d pay you generously for helping others get paid when they pay their monthly essential bills, would you want to know even more? Shane Douglas did, and it’s paid off in an incredible way for him. It’s been 10 years since this Idaho native living in a town of just 1,500 people
“Our system can be 100% automated for you,” he explains. “Simply direct potential customers to your online store that the company provides for you, and they can sign up for any of these services with many of the major companies that are available in their area. When they sign up on your online store, you receive a residual commission every month when they pay their bills. It’s that simple.” The key to his success, he says, is that he doesn’t complicate his business; he just goes out and shares the company’s program and his personal story. ”Before you join some other company that makes pie in the sky promises,

“Our company is different: We only offer services that people pay on monthly basis like gas, electricity, TV, internet, cell phones, home security and more. Marketing Snapshot for a New Startup Your 1-Minute Marketing Plan Let’s cover the bases in marketing a home business startup, for our Startup issue, including a basic marketing plan, advertising, direct marketing, public relations, networking, branding, online marketing and social media. Your first step in marketing a home-based business? Don’t spend a marketing dime until you have a plan. Start with your marketing budget and apply it to the different types of marketing. Review the podcast on marketing for more information on the detailed subject of a marketing plan — homebusinessmag.com/radio-and-podcast. With advertising, you pay an established media outlet to run your advertisement. It’s timeless — the oldest form of marketing. Ad outlets include magazines, newspapers, TV, websites, social media platforms and more. Common home-based examples are a magazine display ad, a newspaper classified ad, a website banner ad, a paid social share on Facebook or Twitter, and more.
“ Lay a marketing foundation across the maximum number of social media channels. Next, DM — direct marketing — covers a wide range of activities where you directly market your message to a targeted audience. DM is particularly important for home-based entrepreneurs. The dominant DM form is snail mail, but it also includes email, inserts, social media blasts, web advertising and more. The evolution of postal mailing is emailing. But beware — we recommend that you not send your marketing message to an email distribution list that you have not personally compiled. Related to direct marketing is building your brand image — the personal marketing of yourself. Create attractive business cards, stationery and promotional products. With these marketing tools, pay attention to the brand message you communicate to prospects. One way to build that brand is through networking. Networking is a key marketing tool. The smaller the business, the more important is networking. If your customer base is local, networking is the best marketing you can do and it’s easy. Search online for business organizations to network with. A primary type of online marketing are banner and text ads. You place your banner ads on content sites that target your customers. Or, use third-party ad networks, such as Google or Yahoo, to target your online ads. Remember that banner ad images and headlines also build your brand image. As traditional banner ads decline, social media marketing is growing. Platforms include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and more. Set up a business Facebook page and start posting! Send out tweets. Link your Facebook with Twitter. Set up an Instagram account and upload marketing images. Post up a YouTube video about your business and create a YouTube business channel. Lay a marketing foundation across the maximum number of social media channels. A growing form of online advertising is native advertising, often called paid or sponsored content. These are simply online article posts that are “advertorial.” Native advertising is growing to dominate online marketing. Budget some funds for your own native advertising. Let’s end with a fun part of marketing — publicity and PR. It’s easy to be your own PR agent. Start by putting out a press release to announce your business. Be creative and write a press release in third person. As a hook to grab your audience’s attention, make your press release newsworthy. Test out your marketing. See what works, what doesn’t, and update your marketing plan.

Home Business Startup Success Step-by-Step Guide to Launching a New Venture in 2018
F E AT U R E
By Frank O’Hara
S
Time to get zstarted! Complete these steps when you’re in the initial launch stage.
6. Match Your Domain Name to Your Business Name Digital content is key these days, so make sure to purchase a legitimate domain name that matches your business name, in order to establish credibility. Get a Gmail account if you do not already have one.
1. Determine if It’s a Practical Idea Don’t lie to yourself and pursue a risky venture. Whichever business you launch needs to deliver a profit in the end. Ask a friend if they would buy it or hire the service. Assess whether the income will cover costs and equate to a revenue.
7. Establish the Legal Structure Protect your personal assets (house, car, etc.) by incorporating your business. Hire an attorney to assist in deciding on whether to structure as a corporation, LLC, or sole proprietorship.
2. Draft a Business Plan Many people do not enjoy the sometimes tedious process of creating a business plan, but it is key to have throughout the entire process. Note financial projections so you can consider all facets that must be attended to. Modify the plan when needed, and use it as the go-to guide.
8. Apply for an Employer Identification Number An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is key to separating yourself from the business. If you plan to set up a business bank account or incorporate your venture, an EIN is necessary. The good news is that EIN numbers do not cost money and you will not have to give out your social security number.
o you wish to launch a new venture. Fantastic! The key is to separate the various steps of building a home business into feasible layers. There is no need to feel wary at the expansive list of items to complete in the journey ahead. Here are the main tasks for your home business checklist!
First Steps When Launching
3. Get a Clear Idea of Your Finances A startup, in most scenarios, will not take off right away. Create a chart that details where your living costs will come from, whether that be a personal savings account, part-time job, inheritance, etc. Should you need financing, there are many options available: loan, angel investor, etc. 4. Check in with Your Family You do not need their approval, but it would help if your spouse and other family members are on board. They will provide honest feedback about your dream business. 5. Decide on a Business Name The business name you choose should be catchy, easy to remember, and most importantly — completely original. A simple way to check if your desired name is unique is to do a Google search. Make sure to check at both the state and Federal level. 10

Pursue a venture that has a promising future.
9. Research and Apply for Licenses and Permits Each industry has different licensing requirements depending on the field and location, so do your research. You may need more than one. Licenses can be at the state or local level. The Small Business Administration provides helpful tools for finding the right license or permit. 10. Design Your Website Or hire someone to do it. Set up your website. WordPress is a highly efficient software to use. Make this a priority in order to establish authority in your industry. Content is king! If your business is not fully ready to launch, provide basic company information and a preview of what is to come. 11. Set Up Social Media Profiles Register on the fan favorites: Twitter,

Reserve those profile pages and handles before they are taken! 12. Start Selling Now There will always be a reason to delay until tomorrow. No business is perfect and you’ll need cash flow to persist. The early stages will need a steady revenue stream to stay afloat. Make sure all necessary contracts are drafted for customers. 13. Find Office Space to Rent Home-based business owners should keep an eye out for office space they may need to rent at a moment’s notice. Damage can happen to your home (such as from natural disasters or a leaking pipe) which can make it not conducive to working. 14. Purchase Business Cards Networking is a smart marketing strategy for home-based business owners, at neighborhood get-togethers, town meetings or city social events. 15. Attain a Business Bank Account Separate your business from personal expenses by opening a business bank account. This will be especially helpful during tax season. 16. Put Together an Accounting System With your business bank account ready, it’s time to decide on an accounting program. QuickBooks, FreshBooks and Xero are popular in the small business community. Accounting is top priority! Clear and organized books will make for smoother sailing in your business journey. 17. Delegate Responsibilities to Each Founder If you founded a business with others, depict in writing exactly what each individual will be responsible for. Prevent future clashes by making it clear what each co-founder should be in charge of.
Steps to Keep in Mind for Later The next set of tasks are important to attend to once your business is up and running.
18. Upgrade Your Mobile Device Business owners need a high-functioning smartphone to access emails and business information at the drop of a hat. Download business apps to streamline operations. Purchase a credit card swiping device to charge payments on the go. 19. Research Authoritative Information SCORE, the SBA, and other small business groups and websites offer free tools, advice, templates for business documents, and real people to assist you.
The early stages will need a steady revenue stream to stay afloat.
20. Secure Insurance for Your Business If you are planning to hire full-time employees, attaining coverage is especially important, whether it be workers’ compensation or liability insurance. Providing health insurance with dental/eye care plans will draw in solid talent and keep future employees happy. 21. Hire an Employee When first launching your business, you
may have relied on outsourcing to freelancers and virtual assistants to aid your business tasks. As your business expands, it may be time to hire an employee to work at your home office for extra and quicker help. 22. Hire Service Providers and Suppliers Source inventory from high-quality avenues. Service providers and suppliers are key for getting your product securely into the

24. Network with Your Community Contact old friends, co-workers, acquaintances, neighbors and distant family members. Ask for advice on your business — but don’t try to sell to them. Request that they “like” your social pages or spread the word.
— you should be able to eloquently articulate your brand’s mission and services.
25. Skip Testing Out Partnerships Major players will not try to start partnerships with fledgling companies. Companies that do reach out in the beginning stages may waste your time. Instead, dedicate your efforts to increasing sales, building an online presence and targeting new customer markets.
27. Modify Your Selling Strategy Learn as you go and keep track of what strategies turn prospective buyers into loyal fans of your business. Request feedback from customers about how you can improve your business and modify practices accordingly.
26. Write the Perfect Pitch Do you have an elevator pitch on hand for the random encounter with a professional in your industry? Pitches are good to have when meeting with bankers, interested investors, or prospective customers. Practice makes perfect
28. Protect Your Data Back up your data on an external drive. Secure your business data and customers’ personal information. Should there be a security breach and a hacker breaks in, they can potentially create legal problems for your business.

Hiring a salesperson can lessen the burden and allow you to put forth more time on other business operations. 30. These tasks will help guide you on your entrepreneurial journey. Take inventory of your checklist at least once a week to make sure you’re not missing any vital steps.
■
Here are some more home business tips that you should keep in mind:
14
■
Set up a solid work environment. Pay the price for ergonomic furniture to maintain a healthy body. Purchase a stylish and professional desk workstation, comfortable chairs and attractive decorations for the room. Make your home office cozy yet classy, so you can work well yet also entertain any clients that stop by.
■
Minimize your overhead to save. How much revenue are you able to keep? If it’s not too great of an amount, find ways to cut down on overhead. Invest in equipment and programs that will save you money in the end.
■
Build a loyal team. Network individuals on LinkedIn and er social platforms to create a of well-rounded individuals.

■
Figure out where you get the most done and work there. Do you have loud neighbors or live next to a busy street? Or perhaps your home is smaller and you feel constrained? Some people need to be around others in order to get the fire under their feet to work harder. Leaving for an outside location can give you a change of perspective and that’s why many home business owners choose to work at coffee shops some days of the week. Work on the big scheme for your business. As a home business owner, you may get caught up handling day-today selling of products or completing orders. Make sure to delegate a decent amount of time each day improving marketing strategies, networking with professionals in the industry, zeroing in on your business’s mission, and taking care of the important aspects that lead to owning a growing and thriving business.
Write and practice the perfect pitch for your business. ■
Show it off! Owning a home-based business is an achievement; be open with potential investors and clients that you work from home. Do not try to justify the reasons, as many people nowadays have converted to the workfrom-home lifestyle.
“A mentor will know the
ropes of a business and be eager to depart knowledge to you.
”
■
Make sure your family members answer the landline with a professional greeting in case it is a business call. Train them to say a specific greeting and transfer the call to you if necessary.
■
Take part in branding. Shaping the business’s identity can be done through targeted branding. A good way to start is by designing a unique logo, and branding various products with the image. Pass out the freebies as promotional products. Your logo will stick in customers’ minds and build loyalty when you deliver excellent products and services.
■
Prioritize tasks each day and check off the list. Write your list in a planner or spreadsheet, and stick to the schedule. Make building business your primary motivation each day.
■
Organize your business. Put a system of organization into place. Have a file cabinet for hard copies of documents, and a digital filing system that is easy to navigate. Label files in a color www.homebusinessmag.com

coding system to save time on searching for documents. You can design your own labels on your computer if you have shoddy handwriting. ■
■
Be realistic with your goals. Transitioning to a home office and launching a new venture does not mean instant success. Many businesses struggle to launch — but don’t give up. Successful business owners are proactive with bringing in new business, and that means you can’t get comfortable. After aggressively networking, marketing, and building an online presence, business should start coming to you. Separate your home office from your family. It is highly beneficial for a home business owner’s morale to have family members nearby when taking breaks. A quick chat can brighten your day and give you that afternoon boost. Make sure your office is in a secluded area of the home or has soundproofing to ensure a productive workspace. Establish rules that the home office is not to be disturbed during the workday.
■
Have a work-life balance. Obsession can be beneficial when starting a business but be strict on leaving your work to take care of your personal life. Go for a jog, grab lunch with your aunt. A well-rounded life leads to a more confident and assured individual.
Successful business owners are proactive with bringing in new business, and that means you can’t get comfortable. ■
Engage in clear communication. Clients will expect frequent communication, especially since you will not see them often in person. Update them frequently about the status of campaigns or work projects. Do not reach a point where they are following up with

Interview with Emma Stone Emma Stone Discusses Embodying a New and Challenging Role to Achieve Greater Success
E
mma Stone talks about her life after winning an Oscar, playing a real person the first time in her life (her recently released movie was Battle of the Sexes), watching Sloane Stevens win the US Open, learning to play tennis and putting on some muscles for her new movie. Question (Q): Emma, what was it like for you to play a real person (Billie Jean King)? Emma Stone (ES): It was very interesting because I had never played a real person before in my life. I wasn’t sure what my process was going to be to play her. She was so wonderful to help me prepare for this. Q: How did you get to know each other? ES: Billie basically threw a couple balls at me on the court and I went to fetch them. I was her Golden Retriever. I had a notebook

By The Interview People with a pencil in my hands, and I followed her around everywhere. She was great, very open, very kind. Q: Did you see the footage of Sloan Stevens and how she won the US Open this year? She was handed a check of over 3.7 million dollars and her face almost fell to the ground… ES: I was at the US Open with Billie Jean King watching that very moment. Billie said this is exactly what they were fighting for when they were in it. They were fighting for the next generation. It’s great to see that come into being a reality. Q: There is a very powerful scene after the Battle of the Sexes. Billie Jean had won and she sat in the locker room crying. What were you thinking at that moment? ES: That moment was fascinating. She had

so much strength and held it all together all the time. She was on four hours of sleep every night. In that moment when she won it all came out. It was a great moment. Very emotional for me as well. Q: You are not a tennis player. Was that the most difficult thing to learn?

ES: I have never played tennis. I took a lot of lessons, but I also had a pretty phenomenal and professional double who is in a lot of the tennis scenes. That made my life a lot easier obviously. I was surrounded by a lot of pros. So much of the story is about her personal story, but had this been the Billie Jean King tennis movie, I would have never been able to do this.
“It was very interesting because I had never played a real person before in my life.
Q: How was it when you saw this movie for the first time? ES: Waterworks all the way. It was very emotional for me. I didn’t really expect that. But it was very powerful for me. Q: How has your life changed since you won the Oscar?

Q: So you liked being a bit more muscular? “You get strong enough to execute whatever you want to execute.” – Emma Stone
ES: It’s been great. Lots of great opportunities, but my personal life is not that different. I am still living the same life I lived before. And that’s exactly how I like it.
10-44_HBM_WINTER2017.indd 17
ES: Yes, I did. All of a sudden I could lift my dog’s heavy food bag. Billie Jean was a social activist. Tennis was an amazing platform for her. Physicality has everything to do with that. That equals strength in other areas as well. It felt super empowering.
Q: You put on some muscles for this role. How did it change you?
Q: What did you think of the clothes you had to wear? After all, the movie does take place in the 70s?
ES: It was an amazing experience. I was never athletic before. I danced, but that’s about it. The beginning was brutal, but then it gets pretty cool. You get strong enough to execute whatever you want to execute.
ES: Yes, that was quite interesting. I was sweating a lot in this movie. And it was not just because of all the tennis. The synthetic clothes made me sweat. I am glad we are past that time period to be honest.

20+ Ideas for Home Businesses You Can Start in 2018 1. Business Website Designer. As more and more businesses launch, the demand for their online presences also increases. If you’ve taken programming classes before and are comfortable designing websites for small businesses, you might want to sell your web design skills to these new businesses. Web design is no longer as intimidating as it was before — especially now when themes like Divi on WordPress give you a preview of what the finished product would look like even before it’s published. You can also find a lot of free web design tutorials on YouTube to further your knowledge. In short, everyone should know how to design a website in 2018. 2. Carpooling Service Owner. Carpooling provides you and other people with great benefits. Along with reducing the number of cars on the road, it also saves you money and fuel. You do not have to find strangers to sign up to your carpooling service, although they are an option if preferred. You can ask your coworkers to carpool with you at a price. This way, the ride will be more fun, comfortable, and not awkward, compared to carpooling with strangers. 3. Customized Phone Case Designer. If you are comfortable using photo- and image-editing software like Photoshop, you should definitely look into designing phone cases. You can set up an online shop where customers can either choose to buy pre-designed cases or create their own with their names, favorite colors, etc. This is an online business geared toward success since most people — especially iPhone users — favor phone cases to showcase their personality. 4. Graphic Designer. The thing about graphic design is, the demand never stops. There will always be someone — a person or a company — who needs a new logo, infographics, and other promotional materials. The job never stops as it’s fairly easy to find new clients on websites like Upwork and Fiverr. Make sure you’re not selling yourself short. Some clients tend to really shortchange you and bargain. 18

5. Mobile Bookstore Owner. You can design an old truck to include bookshelves and start selling used and new books. Have something for everyone — from fiction to sci-fi to biographies and cookbooks. You can travel to art fairs and other events to meet bookworms across the country and sell them stories. 6. Mobile Coffee Vendor. No, we’re not saying you should overthrow Starbucks, because even if you try, you can’t. Operate a mobile coffee cart on a busy street in front of office buildings. You can also set up shop in universities where students do not like to spend their bucks on overpriced coffee. Be sure to wake up and start to set your cart up early in the morning. 7. Mobile Ice Cream Shop Owner. Sure, the idea’s not really new but mobile ice cream trucks have always been really successful. What separates an ice cream truck that sells from the regular ones is a catchy truck design and branding. Make sure your overall presentation is visually pleasing. This way, customers are more likely to post a photo of your products on their social media accounts. 8. Mobile Pool Cleaner. Becoming a pool cleaner doesn’t require that big of an investment. Just get yourself a cleaning pole and some cleaning acid and you’re good to go. The pay is good, and since not everyone has a pool in their backyard, you can always find something else to do while waiting for potential clients to get in touch.
yourself to be someone who excels in online dating via Tinder and other apps, you can definitely cash in on your social skills as an online dating coach. The popularity of these apps does not in any way translate to the success of its users because many have still yet to find their one true love. Groom your clients to become magnetic and more attractive on their online profiles. Teach them how they can highlight their best asset — whether it be their smile, eyes or how they speak. 11. Online Foreign Language Instructor. If you were born from parents that speak a foreign language, you can probably speak the language very well. Do not waste the opportunity to earn some cash by offering to teach this language to those whom wish to learn it. Your clients include students and businesspeople. You can charge by the hour. Your teaching sessions can easily be arranged through Skype or other messaging apps that have a camera. 12. Online Hiring Officer. If you have experience in human resources, this venture is definitely for you. Help clients and companies find the best person to fill in their vacancies. Your job as a recruiter is to help people get jobs. Prepare to be creative by using other sites like Craigslist and LinkedIn to find applicants with related experience in the field. Most of the time, this job is commission-based, but you can always negotiate with your client to give you a fixed salary or charge them by the hour.
9. Online Content Curator. The Internet is filled with information that is of no use to our everyday lives. If you’re sick of reading the same, unhelpful topics, you can get in touch with a website and offer your content curation services. This job requires you to come up with original ideas for their editorial calendar and topics that their target readers will find very helpful and that are more likely to go viral. If you have a degree in journalism, this idea is definitely for you.
13. Online Newspaper Business Owner. Starting an online newspaper website isn’t going to require much. For starters, you can get yourself a domain name and domain hosting, and you’re all set. You can start to aggregate news from reputable news sites like BBC and Reuters without copying their content verbatim. You can then find writers to contribute to your site in exchange for exposure. As more readers visit your site, you can start looking into monetizing it by showing Google Ads and accepting paid or sponsored reviews.
10. Online Dating Coach. If you consider

14. Personal Instagram Photographer. If your photography skills are great, it’s time to offer your services to people who are active on Instagram but do not have someone to take their photos. Your potential clients include models who are marketing new clothing lines and small businesses that are launching new products. You don’t have to spend much on your camera. Your iPhone camera is usually enough for a great Instagram photo, plus your post-production editing skills will make the shots look eye-catching. 15. Pet Hotel Operator. If you’re a pet lover, you can consider owning a hotel for pets. Help pet owners travel with peace of mind knowing that their furry friends are in safe hands and are fully taken care of. For a steadier flow of income, you can also include a small veterinary clinic and a pet supply shop for collars, foods and other pet necessities. You’ll be earning tons of money while being able to pet dogs and cats for free! 16. Product Reviewer on YouTube. Many people read product reviews of things they plan to buy. They would love to know what’s in store for them and hear what others have to say about, for example, a phone before they spend their hard-earned money. This is an opportunity for you if you don’t shy away from the camera. Film yourself giving a valuable review on a certain product and get paid by YouTube based on the number of views of your uploaded video. Help people decide if it’s a product they should buy or not. If you get successful doing this, it’s only a matter of time before manufacturers and businesses reach out to you and give you their sample product. 17. Proofreader. If you have a penchant for correcting typos and grammar lapses, then you can easily become a proofreader. Proofreaders are tasked to edit a copy to make sure 20

everything is grammatically correct and easy to understand. Get those red markers and start accepting proofreading jobs from students and small businesses — from theses, essays, and book reports to business proposals. You’ll always land a client needing your proofreading skills. 18. Résumé and Cover Letter Specialist. Someone will always be on the lookout for a job opportunity — which also means a job opportunity for you! Help job hunters get noticed by the hiring officers by writing them the best résumés — ones that are going to stand out from a pile of other résumés. Don’t forget to highlight your clients’ best work experience and awards. And no, you cannot use Comic Sans. 19. Selfie Drones Reseller. It only seems fitting to welcome the New Year with something that’s becoming a growing trend. People are starting to realize the importance of drones, no matter how silly they sound. From video surveillance in one’s home to farmers getting an aerial view of their crops, drones no longer sound too unreasonable anymore. Aside from these uses, you can always resell your drones to young people whom are looking for new and fun ways to take their selfies. 20. Social Media Manager. This job should go without saying that you must be well aware of current social media trends. As a social media manager, your job is to share something (a post about a product, a tweet about upcoming sales, etc.) while maximizing your reach and engagement. If you’re funny and have a knack for coming up with catchy headlines, this job is a piece of cake for you. From time to time, you’ll also need to answer customer queries. Always sound professional and ready to be of assistance.
21. Speech Writer. No one ever wants to give a bad speech. Help people who are in need to give a speech in a corporate event or at parties by providing them with a memorable speech that would sweep their audience off their feet. Get to know the person giving the speech and make sure the speech you’ll write for him or her isn’t far from his or her personality because the secret to giving a beautiful speech is keeping it natural. Insert a good joke or two and don’t forget to include heartfelt messages appropriate to the event. 22. Travel Planner. Many people do not have the time (and patience) to prepare and plan for a trip they’ve always wanted to take. Sure, a vacation in Montego Bay sounds awesome, but where does one start? That’s where you come in! As a travel planner, you’re tasked to look for the best prices for your clients’ flights and hotels, as well as restaurants and related activities. Book your clients’ flights and hotels, arrange for their airport transports, suggest a number of good restaurants, and list some attractions they’ll likely be interested to see. You will also have to prepare them a copy of their itinerary that caters to their needs and preferences. This winter, take a chance and start a new venture. Consider one of these profitable businesses you can work on primarily out of a home office. Do proper research and practice your trade to become skilled in your chosen industry. Pick a business that inspires you to work harder each day to achieve your goals. ake some advice from someone who makes her living getting brands noticed. Puerto Rican and Bronx Native, Madeline Familia, is the CEO and Founder of New York City-based public relations firm, Creative Voices PR. Before launching her home-based business earlier this year, Familia has worked with leading L’Oréal, Procter & Gamble brands and luxury fashion brands at leading New York City public relations agencies. As an industry expert, Familia has provided insights on how brands can reach their target audiences, build brand recognition and awareness. Creative Voices PR focuses on promoting minority and women-owned businesses and start-ups. Familia states, “I decided to start Creative Voices PR as a result of my struggles fitting into ‘corporate America.’ I noticed that a lot of companies were passing up on real talent, merely because they are not open to diversity and when I say diversity, I don’t mean just
race, I mean all walks of life. I was born and raised in an impoverished neighborhood in the Bronx by a Puerto Rican mother who did not speak a lick of English. Working in corporate America after college was a huge culture shock for me.” The corporate environments she encountered did not properly value and respect her worth. “I felt like everything I was doing was wrong. I noticed I was getting critiqued for how I spoke, dressed and behaved. I was being judged for traits that I’ve developed because of my background and upbringing but these were not traits that affected my work. I was not being judged on my work ethic and talents — my ability to creativity spin a story, find unique story angles and fight for the brands I believed in, and I felt forced to assimilate in order to be accepted within these organizations. Therefore, ultimately, the reason I started my own business is culturally, I felt as if I didn’t fit in anywhere else. Despite my talents, I saw

entrepreneurship as my only viable path to prosperity,” she says. Today, brands hire Familia to help them navigate through today’s media landscape and solve business problems through strategic and creative communications. Modifying One’s Natural Qualia By Ben Wilson
D
r. Eric Fishman, also known as Dr. MONQ, is frequently asked why an orthopedic surgeon would venture to start an aromatherapy company. His answer is quite simple. People go into medicine in order to help others and as an orthopedic surgeon, he was able to help tens of thousands of people…one at a time. So in a busy day, he would help 40 or 50 patients, but it was always constrained within the Western medicine box. He was able to draw straight lines with a scalpel and help people according to the Western medicine precepts, but he didn’t give a thought for the most part to Eastern medicine, and certainly not to aromatherapy. After retiring from medicine, Dr. MONQ enrolled in a yoga teacher training program and for the first time ever, experienced the amazing benefits of aromatherapy. Classmates and teachers would give him peppermint to get energized and lavender to relax and he was amazed at the benefits. It was
then that he developed the concept of helping millions of people around the world by providing them with a convenient and easy method of using essential oils in their own personal diffuser wherever they are. That is when MONQ® was born. MONQ® is an acronym; Modifying One’s Natural Qualia. Qualia is a poorly understood concept. It relates to how we experience the world. The redness of a strawberry, the sweetness of vanilla, or feeling nervous or stressed, as opposed to feeling calm. So by using a MONQ® personal aromatherapy diffuser, you can change for the better your perception of the world, and particularly your perception of yourself, your state of mind, and your sense of being. “We all know that stress is one of the most pervasive impediments to good health and longevity,” states Dr. MONQ. “Recent EEG studies have demonstrated that using Zen MONQ increases Alpha and Theta brain

waves, clearly indicating a more relaxed and meditative state. It has been shown that breathing in the terpenes that are present in MONQ® products can lower stress. And, our tens of thousands of customer testimonials, sharing their daily experiences and wellness improvements, are a testament to the belief that breathing MONQ® is improving their Qualia of Life too.” Dr. MONQ operates his business from his home office, which employees have branded “The Monastery.” Visit https://drmonq.com/.

BUSINESSES & OPPORTUNITIES
It’s All About Timing 10 Steps to Leaving Your Corporate Job and Starting Your Own Business By Jon Dwoskin
I
loved my job, adored my co-workers, thought my company was great and was happy with my compensation and achievements. So why did I feel like I was slowly losing my identity in my corporate career? Despite my success as a real estate broker and regional vice president running a large branch office, I just could not shake the burning desire to start my own business. I was filled with creative ideas but had no outlet for them. I wondered what was wrong with me — why couldn’t I be satisfied with what so many others were longing for? I’ll always remember the advice of an attorney I met around that time: “Don’t look back with regret that you did nothing when you get older.” That was my “aha” moment, and I knew it was time to leave the corporate comforts behind and strike out on my own. If you’re an entrepreneur, or on your way to becoming one, you can surely relate. But how do you turn that passion into concrete reality? Here are 10 tips culled from my own journey. They worked for me, and they will for you. 1. Assess Your Willingness There is the one question you need to ask yourself if you are going to start your own company: Are you an entrepreneur or not? The answer is simply yes or no. There is no maybe, no middle ground. You can have entrepreneurial tendencies, but until you own a company, you are not an entrepreneur. If you have the willingness to take risks and get this thing started, keep reading. ACTION ITEM: Commit to spending 15 minutes a day building your plan and putting your vision on paper. From this, you will gain a client or two. This timeline will be part of your business plan. Start building your dream, your vision and your freedom. As you grow, you will know when it’s time to leave your current job and continue full time on your own. 2. Determine Your Unique Ability We’re all good at many things, but we each have one or two very unique abilities. Dig deep to discover and understand what yours are. Don’t wander through categories. You are great at some things, good at others, okay at a few,
24

and even completely incompetent at a couple. Take the time to figure out what uniquely exceptional skill you have that separates you from the pack. This is where you Spend 15 minutes a day writing your plan on paper. should be spending 80 percent of your time. Delegate the Nexflix demolished Blockbuster. Uber forever rest to others and build from there. changed the taxi industry. The list goes on and ACTION ITEM: Take 15 minutes each on. day to determine and articulate your unique ability. Don’t stop until you’re done. Look for thoughts and opinions from people you respect, including colleagues, friends and family. 3. Make a Business Out of Being Yourself It’s easy to wear a mask in business. We all do it. Corporate America demands it. But, as an entrepreneur, you can play the game while being yourself. You will have more fun and feel less constricted. ACTION ITEM: Stretch yourself to find your voice in every situation. Be heard because of the value you bring to the table. 4. Don’t Take No for an Answer Many of us have amazing ideas, but we don’t act on them. Nothing is worse than remembering a great idea you had years ago when you see that someone else had the same idea and made millions on it. What is the difference between you and that guy? That person had faith in themselves — and their killer idea — and took action. You can do the same. So, do it! ACTION ITEM: Take action! The idea that has been eating at you for days, months, years, deserves a shot. Do something today — talk to someone, make notes, sketch it out — to keep that idea alive and moving forward toward reality. 5. Project the Future: Beware of Disruptors When we look back, we see some of the disruptors that destroyed companies and forever shifted industries. Amazon destroyed Borders.
The Borders, Blockbusters and cab companies failed to see who was behind them and project change in their industries. You must always be projecting, not only what your numbers are going to look like in your company, but who and what can put you out of business. The key is to constantly adjust and always be innovative.
“Take the time to figure out what uniquely exceptional skill you have that separates you from the pack.” ACTION ITEM: Take a pen to paper (or a finger to your notes app) and start writing down how you would put yourself and your company out of business. At every moment, assume that there is a group of people sitting in a room thinking about how there is another way — an easier, cheaper, more efficient way — to do your business. Don’t allow yourself to be made extinct. 6. Build a Thick Skin Sticks and stone may break bones, but when words hurt you, you and your business can be worn down. Having a thick skin is hard, but it Continued on page 26

It’s All About Timing Continued from page 24
is essential in business. We must be kind, but firm; tough, but nice; tenacious, yet approachable. That being said, you can’t care what people think of you or say to you. You can’t take anything personally. One of my favorite quotes is, “Don’t spend time worrying about what others think of you. The fact is, they rarely do.” Whoever said this was right on the money. Remember it as you develop your own thick skin. ACTION ITEM: Always be open to feedback, but make sure you are getting it from someone whose intent is genuine. It’s okay to let it in one ear and out the other, or to simply walk away. Everyone has an opinion. Whether it matters to you or not is up to you. 7. Be the Solution to the Pain That Is Their Problem It is so typical that we don’t own this. What seems so fundamental to us is not to others; yet our advice can change the course of someone’s business and/or life. Own that you are the solution to someone else’s problem. There is huge responsibility in this, which is why so many people shy away from it. Have faith that what you offer gives others peace of mind and a quality alternative. ACTION ITEM: If your unique ability solves someone’s problems, you have a business. Now, go grow it! 8. Study Every Day It’s that simple. Do something every single day that will expand your mind, grow your skillset and develop your talents. This might mean reading a book, listening to a podcast, watching a webinar, or something else. Do it every day and the compounding effect will be tremendous to your personal and business growth. ACTION ITEM: Commit to daily study. Schedule time every day to learn. It can be as little as 10 minutes of listening to a podcast every morning on the way to work and again on the way home. Put it on your calendar so you have no excuses. 9. Leave a Lasting Impression You are judged by how you walk into the room and in the first seven seconds you encounter someone. Smile! Show enthusiasm in your eyes and have a welcoming handshake. Be happy to see or meet people. Make time for them. Slow down and give them a little attention. Ask them a question or two about themselves. Collect business cards. Email people after you meet them. Put them in your database. Stay consistent in your communication

Grow your skillset by listening to a podcast each day. with them. Close them in your business or get an introduction from them. They will expect the same from you. ACTION ITEM: Attend a networking event. Be consistent with your attendance and put some on your calendar. Go, and have fun! 10. Always Be Prepared Always take time to prepare. Prepare for meetings, introductions, presentations and everything you do. You should have a prepare mindset in everything you do. It’s that simple. When you are prepared, you make everything look easy to others. That is exactly how they should perceive you and your abilities. ACTION ITEM: Proactively set time in your calendar to prepare every day. Remember, no one ever thinks it’s a good time to leave a secure job, and sometimes people just can’t swing it financially. Start saving every cent in preparation of making the jump. Work each and every day on your business plan, and find someone you can trust — a spouse, friend, colleague — to bounce ideas off.
“You must always be projecting, not only what your numbers are going to look like in your company, but who and what can put you out of business.”
It took a good year from that “aha” moment for me to leave the security of my full-time job and set up shop as a business coach and advisor. These 10 tips helped me every step of the way. The ideas may seem simple, but they are not. They will require you to change your routine and become uncomfortable. It’s good to get out of your comfort zone every now and then. That’s part of what being an entrepreneur is all about.
“Always be open to feedback, but make sure you are getting it from someone whose intent is genuine.” Think big starts while making small shifts in your execution and your mindset. Like that attorney advised me, don’t look back and wish you had done more. I can’t guarantee you success, but I can promise that you’ll never regret trying. “Business whisperer” Jon Dwoskin is an executive advisor and business coach. World of Cryptocurrency Veteran Entrepreneur Seeks to Discover the Truth and Block Fake News with Browser Plugin By Annabelle Bamforth
D
avid Mondrus is not an ordinary business owner; he’s a veteran entrepreneur with a deep background focused on technology. While learning about Mondrus, it quickly becomes evident that he is dedicated to the advancement of crypto technology and its unique ability to facilitate the creation of a prosperous future. And for more than a decade, Mondrus has undertaken a majority of these projects either from his home or while traveling, allowing for a unique and ever-evolving work setting that has enabled him to actualize many of his passions. For Mondrus, the ability to remain mobile is crucial and he has taken creative steps to ensure harmony between work and lifestyle. Mondrus was born in Kiev, and at an early age he became attuned to the fact that propaganda was widespread in his country. He’s said on a number of occasions that as a child, “you had to learn to read between the lines before you learned to read.” Mondrus later moved to New York City and dove into the world of coding at age 13. He went on to earn an MBA from Columbia Business School, and spent six years working with Fortune 500 companies as a senior consultant and engagement manager at IBM. Over the past several years, Mondrus has been deeply engaged in the world of Cryptocurrency. He’s spent countless hours on the development of internet startups and various Crypto initiatives. He and his wife, Joyce, became the first couple to marry on the Blockchain in 2014. He’s been part of several Bitcoin-related projects including Bitnation, iNation, BTC2MYSQL and MiningSlicer. With most of these projects, Mondrus abandoned the traditional office building model; he chose to make his home the ultimate business hub instead, which has provided him increased flexibility.

Mondrus hasn’t worked in a typical office setting since 2001; he’s spent the last 16 years working from home and remotely with the exception of a few projects. Between 2008 and 2011, Mondrus resided in Asia and was able to conduct day-to-day business while traveling around the world. Mondrus said that it can be complicated at times to convince others that working from home can be done efficiently in this setting. His methodology may appear anomalous to some who are unfamiliar with a work-from-home atmosphere, but in Mondrus’ case, his portfolio speaks for itself.
David Mondrus, CEO of Trive The notations themselves are also reviewed by peers. This method creates a checks and balances system, providing accountability for the research performed. The results of research and verification are hashed and stashed on the Blockchain, creating a transparent, ironclad record. Trive Tokens, a form of Cryptocurrency, are awarded to those who successfully provide valid research or verification.
David Mondrus, CEO of Trive Mondrus explained that the ability to conduct full-time business activities, while also allowing for the creation and development of additional projects, is one of the biggest advantages of working remotely. And in place of conventional office interaction is the synergy and real-time communication that is accessible through online social networking. Mondrus said that this method of interaction makes the integrity of social media especially important. In recent months, his focus has been on building Trive, a project establishing crowdsourced assessment of news content and building trust between the media and the public. Trive is a browser plugin that enables people to determine the validity of online content. This plugin can be applied to many forms of content: news articles, research papers, PDFs, and more. Trive’s unique system relies on the pairing of crowdsourcing and Cryptocurrency. Users download the plugin, conduct research to determine the validity of online content, and apply that research to make notations.
Mondrus has focused virtually all of his time on pursuing the successful launch of Trive, and he’s made incredible progress, thanks to the ability to complete much of the work from his home. Working from home has also allowed Mondrus to take this project on the road as he travels the world to deliver talks about Trive. The ability to travel with his work recently became vital, as Hurricane Irma tore through Florida and forced him to evacuate. And as many of his business associates are located in various areas all over the world, communicating with them in real time to complete this project has been more efficient in this atmosphere. Trive is a provocative yet earnest venture, and it will be refreshing to see individuals in action utilizing a product that Mondrus has taken great care in bringing to fruition. Completing a project of this magnitude is no easy feat, but Trive’s creation has been possible because of Mondrus’ modern approach that relies on mobility and rejects the 9-5 mindset. After listening to him discuss this project and learning about how he was able to do so much of it remotely, it is evident that Mondrus is dedicated to his profession and is continually aiming to adopt nontraditional strategies to reach his goals. Press Release or Media Pitch Maximize the Reach of Your Public Relations Campaign with Two Vital Tools By David E. Johnson
M
any business owners are often confused over the difference between a press release and media pitch. It seems everyone has heard of a press release and know they need one for their public relations campaign. Yet while many may have heard of a media pitch, they are not quite sure how it differs from a press release and what a media pitch is used for when striving to generate strong public relations. While both are tools used in successful public relations campaigns, they differ in how they are written and the results that they produce. That is why a clear explanation of both is needed.
A press release is an announcement of certain news — a product launch, book release, special event, a new hire, or promotion. It is written to receive media mention. The headline needs to be written in a way that commands attention but isn’t seen as a sales gimmick. Below the headline should appear what is called a subheadline that adds additional information about what the press release is about. The first paragraph of the press release is the most critical. This paragraph should be the guts of the press release with the who, what, when, where, and why in it. If the media is going to pick up the press release, this will be where they draw their information from. Often the media will use the first paragraph word for word in what they write. At most, you should expect a paragraph in the local media outlet from your press release. After the first paragraph, there should be a paragraph containing a quote regarding the announcement. After the paragraph with the

quote there should be a paragraph containing some follow-up information that adds color to the announcement. After this there should be what is called a boilerplate paragraph that resembles the ‘About Us’ page found on websites offering information about the company. Finally, at the end of the press release there should be a link to the website from the business, non-profit, or author the press release is coming from. More and more press releases are being used for a viral effect with social media and free online press websites available to post a press release. There are over 50 online sites where press releases can be posted for free. This helps create a viral footprint for the press release on search engines. The press release should also be posted on all social media sites of the business sending out the press release, as well as the organization’s website. Press releases should be between 1 to 2 pages long.
“More and more press releases are being used for a viral effect with social media and free online press websites available to post a press release.
”
A media pitch is written to get specific media coverage from a reporter. It is written and geared in a story format. It is often tied to a news story or current event. An example during Cyber Monday would be to have a person from an e-commerce company discuss innovations being used during Cyber Monday. It is recommend to use a two-paragraph media pitch. The first paragraph should list the issue or news story that is of interest, as well as critical questions that should be asked or addressed by the reporter when doing the story. The second paragraph should include your expertise in being able to address those questions, as well as how you would answer the questions. You want the pitch written concisely, with a good soundbite in your answer. With media cutbacks, reporters and producers love pitches that are written as news stories that they can incorporate into their story and the interview with you. Often the media pitch or
A campaign requires both press releases and media pitches. parts of it are included in the news story the reporter writes or reports on. Media pitches generate the hard media coverage and interviews that brands, authors, and celebrities crave in a public relations campaign. A good media pitch can generate coverage in numerous media outlets. Some media pitches are seasonal and can be repackaged with updated information annually such as stories about holidays or the Super Bowl. Businesses when tackling a public relations campaign need both press releases and media pitches. Key things to remember are that press releases are supposed to be limited for specific news such as an event, promotion, new hire, or other important company news. Media pitches should be ongoing during the campaign and should be put together as closely as possible to a story in the news or a current event. Reporters look at media pitches for story ideas so the pitch is ideal to highlight your area of expertise.
“Media pitches generate the hard media coverage and interviews that brands, authors, and celebrities crave in a public relations campaign.
”
Now that you know the difference between a press release and a media pitch comes the hard and fun part using both of these tools to launch successful public relations campaigns that will attract new followers and customers. Using these tools can ensure business growth from publicity through 2018. David E. Johnson is the CEO of Strategic Vision PR Group, a public relations and branding agency. Capturing Sulfites to Fix Drinks Scientist Invents World’s First of Its Kind Wine Purifier out of Chemistry Lab in Kitchen By Alicia McCarthy

he company Üllo was born halfway through James Kornacki’s graduate program at Northwestern University (Kornacki holds a doctorate in Organic Chemistry), when he realized he could solve a problem he’d been thinking about for some time, ever since his aunt turned wine away at a Christmas party when he was 12. “Can’t have wine because of the sulfites, doctor said so,” she announced. This was only a few years after sulfites became federally regulated in the USA as a food additive, where their use as a preservative was banned entirely from meat and produce following thirteen deaths linked to the chemicals. At 12 Kornacki wasn’t drinking, but by the time he hit grad school that had changed and one night he noticed a “contains sulfites” label on his box of chardonnay (he hadn’t yet graduated to bottles), and he thought of his aunt. Sulfites remain an essential part of winemaking
and they are what keep wine from turning into vinegar. It struck Kornacki that night that if sulfites are added as a preservative, then their job was over the moment he twisted the tap on that box of wine. He thought, “If I could then remove these chemicals, shouldn’t I? Would my aunt be able to drink wine again?” This was a problem of chemistry. It took him 18 months to develop the Selective Sulfite Capture™ polymer resin that they use in their products today. In fact, Kornacki did all of the research and development for the Selective Sulfite Capture filters out of his apartment. He literally had a chemistry lab set up in his kitchen as he had to keep all the research out of the university since it was separate from his grad work. Kornacki got his first real start when he won $5000 from the University’s business pitch competition. He found tremendous support in Northwestern’s Farley Center for Entrepreneurship. Through their network
James Kornacki, PhD and Founder of Üllo
he connected with all of his initial investors who collectively contributed roughly $500k to get Üllo started. His business and team grew from there. “Exactly two years after I won that $5000 check, we had made $5 million in revenue — three orders of magnitude for those counting,” Kornacki shares. Üllo has now made wine more accessible and enjoyable to people all over the world, including his aunt. Visit https://ullowine.com/.

At three and half years old, he was diagnosed with a rare, cancer-like disease, Histiocytosis X. Chemo treatment was the only viable option to battle the tumors that had grown in his spine and head.
Hospitals were all he knew for 10 months during the treatment process, during which, he was admitted into the Make-A-Wish program. Every child who becomes a Make-AWish child are granted a wish to make their dreams come true, and Colburn’s was to witness a space shuttle launch and to meet an astronaut. His mother is often heard saying, “His wish really brought the Eric who I knew before back. He was himself again: smiley, loving, and carefree. It gave him a reason to fight.” The world was different from young Colburn’s perspective, and subconsciously that made him enjoy every tactile sensation of life.
As a growing man with a new look on life, he has always yearned to be bigger than himself. His surroundings could not have been a better apparatus for his goals and curious mind. Music, math, and business were all present in his upbringing, and all stuck around to be applied later on in his life. It’s a brilliant story of a life-threatening disease at a young age to an empowered, limitless man with greater-thanlife goals. It equipped him with tools to conquer whatever obstacles that would ever come his way, and a dedication to make the rest of his dreams come true. Digital Automation Apocalypse Maximize Productivity in Your Home Office by Partaking in Technological Trends By Yolanda Berry
T
here is a societal and cultural shift in the new millennial workspace where virtual, remote and work-from-home workers are reclaiming their lives with a strong focus on work-life balance. One of the biggest obstacles is finding out how to maximize production with less time and effort so you can spend time with family and friends while doing the things you love. The new virtual world creates unlimited opportunities for the home-based business owner or entrepreneur to meet the demands of smart decision-making, time-management and scheduling. This equation is solved by balancing your well-being, work life and lifestyle. In sum, it equals a sound mind. In today’s high-pressured challenges for effective productivity and distribution, large, mid-size and small corporations are actively seeking ways to streamline their business processes and procedures more efficiently.
With such rapid changes in technology, automation is key to meeting the high demands of production and cost. If done right, you can reach your target audience through various means of communication, manufacturing and distribution of products. Although technology was created to make life easier, in some cases, it has made life more complicated. The main goal is to work smarter and not harder. With the wide array of applications available, technology has provided infinite possibilities. Unfortunately, so much time is consumed on our tablets and mobile devices, and we can easily be blinded by the benefits and advantages that are readily available at our fingertips. For many entrepreneurs, they spend the majority of their day spearheading their dayto-day operations either independently or with a small team. This can make it challenging to meet the customer’s demands as well as achieve your desired overall short-term or long-range goals. Great customer service and distribution are priorities for maintaining your brand. When you understand how to respond to customer 34

Within every industry or field, there will be constant changes and shifts, so you must have a desire to learn as well as educate others to keep abreast of new information, resources and trends. If you cannot work through these minor details, you simply will not be as productive to achieving the final outcome you desire. It starts with an internal mindset which expands outward into the tangible processes that move your business forward. There is no magic trick to innovation, so let’s start with the daily operations to enhance productivity. As an entrepreneur, you may feel scattered, stressed or pulled in many directions. With a full schedule on your plate, you are left to juggle priorities. Ask yourself. What is the most important thing to do during the day to produce the results you want?

challenging if you operate an online business but setting priorities and incorporating automated tools will make a big difference in your productivity.
Amazon, Uber and Little Caesar are prime examples of companies leading innovative technical approaches to how we live and experience our world.
Stick to a routine. It will be necessary to develop a set schedule and implement daily activities including allotting enough time for resolving issues and brainstorming new ideas. Preparation and organization directs your plan of action. Social media automated tools such as Buffer or Hootsuite allow you to schedule automated posts that will save valuable time in the long haul. You can also use MailChimp, Constant Contact or iContact to schedule marketing campaigns for promotional e-newsletters. You can even schedule blog posts. Trello is also helpful for collaborating with team members and coordinating projects and tasks.
With the rise of automation technologies, robots, artificial intelligence (AI), bitcoins, and bots, the workplace, as well as our everyday lives, are transforming before our eyes.
Follow digital trends. Become a guru in your field of study. Utilize SEO tools such as Google Analytics or Google Trends to test, research and analyze the current market. Attend events in your local area or travel abroad to network with other professionals. Never stop learning.
Computer Automation Made Simple From email, texting, and content marketing to social media, digital communications is leading and impacting the way we interact with each other. Some may argue that social media is destroying personal, social and emotional interaction and decreasing empathy, compassion, intimacy and how we relate to one another. Although this may be true, social media allows us to connect more frequently at any time of the day and expands our global reach which is beneficial for business. You also have more of an ability to nurture and cultivate relationships and understand the societal needs of diverse communities. With a conscious effort, you must learn to use technology wisely. By setting boundaries, finding a balance and taking responsibility, it can be used to advance the functionality and developments of your business. The new Boomerang Outlook email software allows you to communicate with your team easily to book meetings, create notifications and schedule follow-up reminders to coordinate and collaborate with team members more efficiently. The Digital Automation Apocalypse Many retailers are becoming ghost towns due to the effects of the digital age. There is an eerie feel with the isolation that surrounds us. Although things may feel a little creepy, adjusting to the changes may be helpful in the long run. There are four key areas that you may want to consider for better productivity and to keep abreast of in relation to the technological trends in our present and future workspace.
“ Social media automated tools such as Buffer or Hootsuite allow you to schedule automated posts that will save valuable time for the long haul.
”
Self-service automation: Customer service workers and kiosks are being replaced with iPad touch screens, automated vending machines and self-checkout systems. Physical robots: Industrial machines will lead manufacturing, construction, agriculture, homeland security and defense by utilizing heavier workloads, executing repetitive tasks or accessing dangerous territories or environments. These industrial robots will be used to move large amounts of products in warehouses or vast areas. Virtual assistants: No longer do we speak to humans when we contact a business. Most large companies provide digital concierges to handle customer calls. Startups may want to invest in an automated answering service such

as “Ruby” which provides a remote receptionist service to build a personal connection or liaison between a potential customer and your business. To learn more, you can go to: www. callruby.com/entrepreneur or call 855-405(RUBY) 7829. Another helpful tool is by adding an automated chat service to your website. This will create an interactive experience for all visitors and potential buyers by assisting them with any questions or problems they may have. This feature is also available on Facebook business pages. Artificial Intelligence (A.I.): Successfully links organizational workflows and business processes while utilizing robotic automation and software bots. Emotional Artificial Intelligence (A.I.): Present and future advancements will lead to the ability to identify and recognize human facial expressions, emotional reactions and patterns linked to facial recognition related to how we express our human emotions. With coordinated technology, speech, text video analysis and research, it will determine new digital trends and social selling strategies in e-commerce business models. Overall, the advancement of technology will catapult productivity to new heights not yet known. The main thing is to be adaptable to the changes as your business develops, expands and grows. SEO Consultant Finds Success by Helping Entrepreneurs Launch Their Own Businesses By Ben Wilson

eorgi Todorov believes you can’t tame curiosity and trying different jobs is necessary in order to find yourself. However, along the way, he realized that working 9-to-5 jobs is boring and that he hated to be ordered around — a feeling most people are all too familiar with. The saying that nothing worth doing is ever simple is true. Todorov found himself working for another client for 18 months as a virtual assistant prior to starting his business. He did that in order to learn the ropes and then later on transferred his skills into his business. His work model is all about helping clients, doing PR or SEO consultation. In fact, he’s even giving back to others by teaching beginner freelancers how to do business and invest in their future. In order to start up and finance his business, he started out small and like many others in their position, with zero savings. The
only things which were available to him was a PC and the internet — and somehow, it all worked out in the end, as all he needed was the motivation to keep his idea moving forward. There is no best way to market a business. In fact, for Todorov, it’s a combination of using LinkedIn, other social media sites and personal connection. He says that once your business is catching on, word of mouth will do the rest. Customer base for Todorov’s business is a surprising thing, as it can change from minute to minute. However, as a general rule of thumb, SEO agencies are the ones which make the bulk of this entrepreneur’s business — different sized ones, ranging from 5 to around 250 employees. Todorov believes his most important achievement is having the option to remain self-sufficient and knowing that he has the ability to control his own fate — getting up again should he not achieve his goals.

“As for the primary advantages of working from home, the answer is simply: freedom, Todorov says. “There is no better feeling than knowing that you are in full control of your own future.” In 3 years, his desire is to become even more independent, all while being able to help others to start their own home-based business and giving them the tools to make that a reality. We are not alone. There’s a wonderful world around us. Full of fascinating places. Interesting people. Amazing cultures. Important challenges. But sadly, our kids are not getting the chance to learn about their world. When surveys show that half of America’s youth cannot locate India or Iraq on a map, then we have to wonder what they do know about their world. That’s why we created MyWonderfulWorld.org. It’s part of a free National Geographic-led campaign to give your kids the power of global knowledge. Go there today and help them succeed tomorrow. Start with our free parent and teacher action kits. And let your kids begin the adventure of a lifetime. It’s a wonderful world. Explore!

Purchase a separate landline if you don’t already have one. A good way to separate business from family life is to have a distinct number and landline for your home office. Parents of young children will certainly benefit from this tip, as it can be hard for kids to grasp boundaries. A landline will also be useful during power outages.

Coordinate conference calls at reasonable times. Check your calendar! Are you supposed to receive that Amazon delivery at a certain time? Is there construction taking place on your street? Loud background noise or interrupting the call for personal reasons will look unprofessional for your business.

cause of depression for individuals. Depression can crush a business, and more importantly, a psyche, so find ways get outside and meet individuals. Go to Meetup.com and find groups in your area that focus on your interests, whether that be jogging, knitting, or reading romance novels. Take time to volunteer at an organization you are passionate about. Who knows, you may even meet people in your industry. If anything, you will engage with like-minded individuals and perhaps make a few new friends. Building a social life will have positive effects on your passion to build a business.

Be ready for the funding quandary and have a backup plan. Home-based businesses require less startup funding. However, as a great deal of the funding is for intangible assets, it may prove difficult to attain traditional avenues of funding if you are struggling to get a bank loan.
■
Open a business credit card. Most people fund their businesses through personal credit cards. You are not required to provide collateral in order to use a credit card. However, the rates may not be very beneficial for your business. A better idea is to open a business credit card in order to separate your business from personal expenses. It happens to everybody: The dreaded, unexpected big expense — major car repairs, a broken air conditioner, a plumbing problem, a sick pet, a computer crash, a dental emergency.
Here are three tips for developing a disciplined savings strategy that will help with those unexpected expenses:

Often these misfortunes come without warning, and they can throw you for a financial tailspin if you’re not prepared with ample savings. Thus, it’s prudent to develop and sustain a savings plan that will help you endure emergency expenses. Financial discipline over the long haul is the key. It’s kind of like being on a diet. It’s the discipline of sticking with that diet over the long term that will pay off in the end.

3 Saving Tips to Help Prepare You for Unexpected Expenses
E

•
Create a budget and don’t deviate. You have to expect that the unexpected emergencies will come up. You should prepare a budget accordingly, at least ballparking possible emergencies aside from your normal monthly bills. The more you stick to the budget and put some aside for those rainy days, the better off you’ll be when it pours. Those people who may have had a late start saving or who have dipped into an account here or there sometimes face more of a challenge steering back on the right course. Make savings the emergency fund. Savings are your foundational backbone, your go-to source in case of an emergency. Thus, you want to steadily build it so you don’t tap into your retirement funds — and pay a penalty on top — when the unexpected expense happens. Setting up different savings accounts for certain types of expenses is a
good idea, rather than raiding one general savings account for all expenses. What this will allow you to do is when things get tight or that emergency pops up, you’ll have a smart place to take out some money. •
Make it automatic. A surefire way to stay on track with savings habits is to earmark a certain amount in your paycheck to be set aside, similar to a 401(k). You can start with a small amount of your monthly income, and then add to it. Seeing that sacrifice on your check each month brings peace of mind.
Inevitably, your car needs a repair or an appliance breaks down. If you stick with a savings strategy, emergencies won’t set you back significantly.
