t’s a fact that everyone has utility and monthly bills: Electric, gas, cell phone, TV, Internet, and the list goes on. And no matter how financially
challenged or wealthy someone may be, these essential services are needed and can never be paid off; everyone will have to pay for these services for the rest of their lives out of necessity.
So when a global company is open in 24 countries worldwide and endorsed by one of the wealthiest people in the world, who features this company on his hit primetime reality TV show not once but twice, says you should find out more, would you want to hear more about it?
The way Shane has grown to be one of the top income earners and trainers in this business is by following the system the company offers all of its independent business owners (IBOs). He says that he tells people they can get the same services from the same major service providers, but get paid. Then, according to Shane, all he does is direct them to his online store, which is included in the companies start up business package.
What if this same company said they’d pay you generously for helping others get paid when they pay their monthly essential bills, would you want to know even more? Shane Douglas did, and it’s paid off in an incredible way for him. It’s been 10 years since this Idaho native living in a town of just 1,500 people
“Our system can be 100% automated for you,” he explains. “Simply direct potential customers to your online store that the company provides for you, and they can sign up for any of these services with many of the major companies that are available in their area. When they sign up on your online store, you receive a residual commission every month when they pay their bills. It’s that simple.” The key to his success, he says, is that he doesn’t complicate his business; he just goes out and shares the company’s program and his personal story. ”Before you join some other company that makes pie in the sky promises,

“Our company is different: We only offer services that people pay on monthly basis like gas, electricity, TV, internet, cell phones, home security and more. Difficult Economic Times Offer Unique Benefits for New Start-Ups Look for Ways to Leverage Scarce Capital No doubt about it. The times remain tough for launching a start-up. Even if the overall economy seems to be moving along OK, the environment for small business start-ups remains difficult. I get a lot of feedback from readers and advertisers on how tough things are. So our final issue in 2016, the November/ December issue, gives you cover story advice tailored to the specific challenges of launching a new business in difficult economic times. I have a few “theories” of my own about why the start-up environment can be arduous. One big challenge is overall consumer demand. Many households are still laden with high levels of debt and uncertainties about the future, after the 2009 financial collapse. This is still impacting disposable income to purchase goods and services. Another challenge is that access to start-up capital remains constrained, such as through traditional business loans. This pushes many towards credit card financing that comes with high interest rates. But like all obstacles, challenges can be turned into opportunities. Innovative ways to target your market can turn lower consumer demand into increased sales and business. New and emerging methods to fund a new business start-up, such as crowdfunding, can counterbalance funding gaps from traditional sources. Tough economic times can also open up new business opportunities. As the environment is tough for all small and home-based businesses, it’s also difficult for your vendors too. This can create the opportunity to leverage mutual support from a business owner whom you need vendor services. A common way to leverage this support is through cross-market arrangements. For example, you sell a product and you have developed a good list of clients, and you reach even more prospects through your website. And say that you, for example, require graphic design services for a marketing piece that you want to mail out. So rather than paying a graphic designer for his or her services on this project, you look for ways that your graphic designer can target your customer base. This might include marketing on your website or inclusion in your newsletter. Your graphic designer gains more customers and you gain a marketing piece — win-win for both of you. Another “tough times” technique is to leverage business diversification. Every home-based business owner should have a goal to diversify with at least one other business. One way to achieve this is through forming a partnership or venture with another small business owner. When the economy is challenging, these other business owners are also looking for joint ventures, and will be more inclined to partner with you. Look for other businesses with whom there is natural crossover in marketing and customer bases. In addition, look for ways to automate and streamline your operations in a difficult market. One area is your actual marketing. Check out Home Business Magazine’s automated marketing platform (www.buzz350.co/homebusiness) or another automated platform. Such platforms can automate client referrals, email marketing, social media posting, reviews generation, contact management, website development and more. Marketing automation gives you back a little more of what is most important in your business — time. I hope that our November/December 2016 issue helps to get you ready for greater success in 2017.

Ideas to Make Your Meetings Memorable In a perfect world, you would have an unlimited budget to hire top keynote speakers for all of your meetings and conventions. Since it’s not, here are some proven suggestions that have been successfully incorporated by many companies and associations. 1. Save on Hotels and Airfare- Cutting the number of speakers will most likely reduce the total nights of lodging needed. 2. Speakers May Reduce Fee- Many speakers will conduct multiple presentations for the same fee and discount several days in the same location. 3. It’s Easier to Get Sponsors- Trading up to a more seasoned or bigger-name speaker makes it easier for you to get sponsors. 4. More Bang for Your Buck- Many successful meeting planners are able to negotiate with their speakers for extras. 5. Next Time You Book a Speaker- If your speaker does not ask how else he can serve you, perhaps you should consider continuing the search. Why Clutter Hurts Your Leadership It’s a simple fact: Clutter is postponed decisions. Many entrepreneurs and managers have cluttered offices — unless they have an organized assistant. Entrepreneurs and
managers think “big picture,” but following through on details can be a struggle. They like to start things, but finishing them can be a challenge. Often the more brilliant a person is, the messier his/her office is. Sorting and filing seems like a lower priority than creating a new product or serving your customer. But is it? It’s easy for observers to wonder, “If someone can’t manage their own office, how can they manage a department or a company?” There are numerous ways an office can be organized, but statistically, most offices simply have too much stuff. Look at each item in your office and ask the question, “Does this help me accomplish my work or enjoy my life?” If the answer is “No,” but you’re still reluctant to get rid of something, ask, “What’s the worst possible thing that would happen if I didn’t have this?” If you can live with your answer, “donate, recycle, or toss it”—and work happily ever after. n the face of a job market that is oversaturated with educated hopefuls and exceedingly competitive to the level of being impenetrable, people are grasping at drastic measures to make enough money to pay the bills each month. Rent prices increase steadily each year as salaries have lowered for well-qualified hirees. A master’s degree no longer promises graduates a smooth pathway to a top tier enterprise career. Considering leaving behind the corporate world of long hours behind a desk, surviving the drama of office politics and shouldering criticism with little reward in the name of earning a reasonable living? Read on to learn from a panel of home business experts how: to turn a passion project into a profitable home business; how to ensure your business is legally protected; how to take your home-based business to the next level; and how to keep tax issues in mind when managing a home business.

Turn a Passion Project into a Viable Business By Kris Finstad At the age of 35, I had an epiphany. After health issues forced me to take time off from my fulfilling and lucrative career in real estate, I realized that life was full of uncertainty (yes, as cliché as that may sound) and that I had to step back from my work and focus on what mattered — my family. One evening while I was at home 14

Every busiAfter sending my daughter’s friend to the emergency room, I sat in the hospital lobby combing through every detail of that evening, thinking there had to be a better way for parents and average consumers to decipher food labels. From that moment on, I spent the following nine months researching the food and allergy industry and developing an application to aid in solving this problem. Launched in the U.S. in 2015, I developed ContentChecked for the countless families that suffer from potentially fatal food allergies. Now, there are more than 2 million users on the platform, and 66% of the users use the app on a regular basis. Here’s how I was able to start and grow my own business. Follow these steps to start and grow your own: 1. Have a well-defined business strategy and forecast of the future. Know your industry. After conducting enough research and evaluation of a particular industry, an understanding of what is lacking on the market or what can be improved will become clear. You can’t build a market out of a one-time concept; it needs to have consistency. Try to forecast the next big innovation in your industry. This will help you to see the

that he actually did over $100,000 worth of roofing business last year, in spite of living in a depressed farming area! And that’s working less than half of the year, leaving the rest of the time for his family and other interests. What makes Pace such a good business is that it costs a fortune for schools, hospitals, plants and other commercial buildings to have roofing companies repair or re-do their roofs. Pace bypasses the roofer — lets the building owner apply Pace Seamless Spray right over the old roof... and the smallest Seamless Spray order earns you over $2,000 in commissions. Pace ships the Seamless Spray equipment on Free Loan. Your customer pays only for the roofing products. His own men apply it (or if you want to make even more money, you can handle the application too). It’s as simple as that.

and it can certainly take time, but if you exert stellar management skills — i.e. setting internal goals for staff each day and clearly defining expectations — you’ll be able to observe staff that is dedicated and enthusiastic. This will help weed out the staff that isn’t a fit or isn’t dedicated to your vision. Hiring talent who bring in skills that you don’t possess is also extremely important — this allows companies to think outside the box and bring in multiple perspectives that are different from your own. The truth is that referral basis is the most proven way to find the right employees who know what they’re doing and are close to the business. If you’re outsourcing talent, make sure to fly them into your headquarters every few months and use Skype to create a more familial bond. 3. Land investment — perfect your pitch. Target firms that are already aligned with what your company does and approach them first. It sounds so simple, but good ideas and good businesses will stand out and get funded. Show investors that you have a solid plan and smart team backing it up. That’s the first part; the second part is perfecting your pitch.
Intellectual property is defined as creations of the mind.
This last year, VC’s have had a tight grip on funding, which brings more competition to lock down those dollars. When pitching investors, show that you are conservative with your capital and how your business will be profitable early on. The bottom line for entrepreneurs who have started a passion project and want to turn it into a viable business — it must be profitable. The most important part of the pitch for venture capitalists is a company’s team and financials, so make sure you are very thoughtful during this portion. For early companies, it may not make sense to include financials since it might be too early on to include accurate projections — there are a portion of these companies that do get funded, but it’s a much smaller percentage.

Ensure Your Home Business is Legally Protected By Matthew Horn, Esq. Whether you’re just starting out or you have been operating for years, there are many legal obligations and issues that confront small business owners. This article will provide you with tips to ensure your home business is legally protected. 1. File originating documents. documents must be filled out and submitted in order to initiate business operations. If you are operating as a corporation, you need to file articles of incorporation, and if you are operating an LLC, you need to file articles of organization. This doesn’t take much time, but is an essential step nonetheless. 2. Select a viable business name. Ensure that your business name is different than the names of existing businesses that offer the same or similar products and services, particularly in the same geographic locations, in order to avoid confusion and potential litigation over use of another business’s trade name. To do this, check state and federal name registries (secretary of state, USTPO, etc.) to see whether other businesses have the same or similar names. Similarly, if you plan on creating a website for your business, you should also check domain name

registries to see if the domain name that correlates with your business name is available. 3. Obtain all necessary licenses and permits. Many businesses require some form of license or permit to operate, whether they are issued by a federal, state, or local government. Research the requirements for your business, and then obtain all necessary licenses and permits. 4. Adopt governing documents. The structure you choose for your business may determine the type of governing documents you need to have in place, such as operating agreements, bylaws, etc. Whether they are legally required or not, written operating agreements and bylaws should be adopted for every business. These documents identify and set out the company’s structure, ownership, voting rights, responsibilities of directors, dayto-day operations, how profits and losses will be treated, and more. 5. Implement written contracts and agreements Many small businesses make the mistake of operating without written contracts, preferring to do business “on a handshake.” This is
a recipe for disaster. Having written contracts helps all parties understand their rights and obligations. Prepare and implement them.
“
If someone doesn’t pay you and there’s no basis for the nonpayment, pursue them — either using a debt collector or an attorney.
”
6. Market properly. There are many legal issues that arise relating to the way businesses market and advertise their products and services. These are governed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and also by state and local laws. The most basic rule with regard to advertising and marketing is that you cannot use deceptive practices to market or advertise. Do not run afoul of it. 7. Protect intellectual property. Intellectual property is defined as creations of the mind. Every business has some intellectual property, whether that is the secret recipe for your restaurant, the special method Continued on page 18

used for creating your product, or simply your business name or logo. There are specific steps you must take in order to protect your business’s intellectual property, which can be protected through copyright (written and artistic content), trademark (logos and slogans), or patent (inventions). Take those steps — or someone might misappropriate your intellectual property, and, ultimately, your business. 8. Comply with employment obligations. If your business has employees, you will need to ensure that your business complies with a myriad of federal and state employment laws. For starters, you must pay employees at least minimum wage (including overtime, when applicable), operate a safe workplace, and treat employees fairly. If you are not interested in having employees but need help operating your business and are willing to give up some level of control over those that work for you, then independent contractors should be considered — but they too come with their own legal issues. 9. Get your financial matters in order. First, open bank accounts and obtain credit in the name of your business, and keep
Video is a powerful medium to market and speak about your new product.
those accounts separate from your personal accounts. Failure to do so may result in a court finding that your business is not a separate legal entity, resulting in you becoming personally liable for debts or lawsuits against the business. Second, ensure you pay all necessary taxes — employment taxes, income taxes, sales tax, etc. Third, get insurance. Certain insurances (auto, worker’s comp., etc.) are usually required by law in order for you to operate your business, but other forms of insurance, while not legally required, are
typically advised for businesses to acquire. Fourth, manage your receivables. If someone doesn’t pay you and there’s no basis for the non-payment, pursue them — either using a debt collector or an attorney. 10. Adopt a recordkeeping program. As your business grows, you will have to maintain accurate books and records for your business. A common issue for small businesses is failing to maintain the required records. These records may include minutes of corporate meetings, stock certificates, financial statements, payroll documentation, injury logs, etc. Adopt a record keeping program and follow it.

Take Your Home-Based Business to the Next Level By Ty Kiisel Many entrepreneurs start businesses out of their homes. For some, it’s a part-time endeavor. For others, it grows out of the living room or the garage and becomes a full-fledged, honest-to-goodness, hiringlots-of-people, moneymaking enterprise. Tamara Monosoff, author of The Mom Inventors Handbook and Secrets of Millionaire Moms, teaches budding inventors how to take their ideas for new products from their dining room table to market. Monosoff is the former Chief of Staff for the Office of Vocational and Adult Education in the U.S. Department of Education, Education Director for the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships, and Senior Communication Associate for the President’s Initiative on Race at the White House during the Clinton administration. She has written six books (including the two mentioned above) designed to help entrepreneurs. Her focus has been to help home-based inventors find ways to develop their ideas into viable products and take them to

Julia Roberts On Starring in Money Monsters, on the Complex Financial World, Rising to One’s True Self in a Crisis, Choosing Her Roles Instinctively, Expressing Her Feelings, and the Dangers of Being Indifferent
Question (Q): Recently you starred in Money Monster. What is surreal about this film and what is its impact today? There is a lot of truth in what we see and it’s very scary in which the way the world of finance is affecting all of us. Was this world something that you have given thought to in the past? Julia Roberts (JR): Well, I think it speaks to a legitimate frustration that many people around the world have about the complexities of the financial world and how really designed it seems to be to baffle people. And even the people that should be responsible for providing answers don’t have answers to provide.
And I think we saw that in 2008 when so many people were brought before the Senate and questioned and asked to be accountable, and everyone just sort of didn’t know the answers. So I think it’s a real frustration that a lot of people feel.

I had. It’s a great luxury to have it, to do the research, to be in different control rooms for different TV shows at a television studio in midtown Manhattan. And Jodie Foster (director) got me a lot of access to different — I saw news being

It was just a unique opportunity for me to have a lot of time to spend in that environment and bring that into our control room when we started shooting in there.
JR: I fortunately have never been so close to immediate peril like that. But I think you see people in a crisis, you see them rise to their true selves, I believe. And I would hope if I were in it, a truly dramatic and fearful crisis like that, that I could try to rise to my true self. Q: Were there times where either one of you questioned what your character was doing? Wondering, you know, if I were in this situation how would I behave? JR: Well, I mean for me, I think Patty really – this is her whole life and her world and her family are these people. 10+ Easy-to-Launch Start-Ups 1.
Property Manager: Ideal for active and organized individuals, property managers are available for tenants to call in for any issues. If the properties are seasonal and the renters or owners vacate the property for an extended period of time, property managers make sure rental units are up to par in regards to the rooms’ cleanliness, and they check that the appliances and plumbing are kept in prime condition.
2.
Gigwalker: Gigwalk is a mobile enterprise app entrepreneurs can utilize to search through an eclectic range of opportunities. The app offers the ability to attain a solid supplemental income, and is perfect for when there is a free moment in the day and a desire to conveniently earn a bit of extra cash, as the jobs that pop up are all within walking distance.
3.
Pet Sitter: Any person can launch a pet sitting business if they have a background in owning and caring for a pet, volunteering at a shelter, or working for a pet shop or veterinary clinic. Animal lovers will particularly enjoy this position and find the most success — owners can tell when somebody will genuinely enjoy being around their beloved animal. Pet sitting can involve light grooming, walks, feeding of the animals, and playtime.
4.
Small Business Marketing Consultant: Freelancers with high energy and a talent for garnering peoples’ interest in new businesses or products can find success as a small biz marketing consultant. The job has endless potential to be a fruitful career, as there is always a new company looking for reasonably-priced marketing services to help draw in more customers.
5.
eBay Shop Owner: Rather than letting unworn clothing sit in closets gathering dust, aspiring business owners can sort through their houses and pull together unused items and add them to an eBay store. eBay shares helpful information to easily get an online store running. With a PayPal account, an ability to take pictures and upload them online, and a willingness to research the asking price and quality components of a product, an eBay store can be launched in no time.
6.
7.

Vehicle Advertiser: Cars kept in decent condition can become a tool to pick up a few extra hundred dollars a month of income, all by advertising for a business! Sites such as Wrapify or Carvertise are good places for entrepreneurs to look when getting started. All sizes of cars have the potential to be used to generate easy profit. Boat Cleaner: This job is especially feasible for coastal citizens and people in the Midwest. On the coast, boats are in need of repairs and cleanings year-round, and in the Midwest, harsh winters call for meticulous upkeep and maintenance. Marketing cleaning services at local lakes or marinas is a good business strategy.

8.
Personal Chef: People with a knack for baking and cooking can turn their passion into profit. Busy families or single executives may need that extra help to keep their bodies well-fed with healthy and tasty food. This job can be a good part-time gig for chefs local to their clients, where they can hop over and cook up a meal and/or provide meal prep options throughout the week.
9.
Home Energy Auditor: Utility bills can be expensive for homeowners with little knowledge on how to save money each month. A home energy auditor offers an audit of a home and details how to cut costs in electrical, heating and cooling usage. They run through a list of each appliance and rate the quality and efficiency based on the age and brand of the appliances.
10. Website Consultant: Many people lack the slightest inkling as to how to manage a website. A website consultant functions as a multi-faceted guide to maintaining a business’s website, working with: development, coding, hosting domain names, managing content, and keeping it secure. A competence in search engine optimization (SEO) and an understanding of link building and affiliate programs are essential skills for helping build authority and traffic for the site. 11. Ebook Writer: Skilled writers can offer ghostwriting services or publish their own books online. Long gone are the days where aspiring authors need to be signed on by a prestigious publication company to reach the public. Self-publishing sites offer a viable source of side income for writers to publish their works on helpful topics relating to business and life (the genres are endless). 12. Graffiti Remover: Businesses have little time to give to maintenance of the external walls of their property. With a cart of cleaning products and a bit of gumption, entrepreneurs can launch a graffiti removal business, targeting local businesses and offering bi-weekly graffiti clean-ups (this career is especially lucrative in bigger cities). 13. SAT Tutor: People with top SAT and ACT scores can consider offering tutoring services for high school students struggling with standardized tests or looking for a bit of extra preparation. SAT tutors get paid $100/hr to sharpen students’ test-taking abilities and help guarantee admission to a top-tier college or university. 14. Music Coach: Musicians can offer personal lessons for an instrument they are skilled at playing. A mastery of reading sheet music and writing music notes are essential for success. Checking out a community center to organize a class or advertising online are good avenues to begin with when launching a music teaching business. Support Health and Make Money Fitness Fanatic Launches Work-From-Home Personal Training Franchise By Sherilyn Colleen
J
P Zengerle has valued physical fitness from day one, for the extensive physical and mental benefits it offers. “My wife Nicole and I decided to open a private personal training studio from our home in 2011 and it’s been growing ever since,” he says. What started out as a side business eventually took off into a lucrative franchise helping entrepreneurs and health conscious individuals around the country. Just You Fitness is a private personal training studio focused on the unique needs of each client. It is a great intimate atmosphere for the client because unlike other gyms, there are no people staring, no distractions, and no waiting for equipment. Prior to launching his fitness franchise, Zengerle worked as a Physical Education teacher and had years of experience working as a trainer at big gyms. “It’s amazing how when you watch someone lose 20, 50, or 100 pounds how it almost changes their

Combining Glamour and Functionality How Fashion Show Producer Turned a Necessity into a Thriving Business By Andrew Matthews
W
hile working backstage at New York Fashion Week, Diana Wright decided to turn a necessity into a growing business. The fashion show producer was determined to create a product that was both functional and beautiful; that’s when Pulleez came to life. Looking for a fast way to create a perfect pony tail, Wright rigged up an elastic cord through a toggle to hold the models’ hair up behind the scenes. Little did she know the response from these models and designers at the show was going to be astounding. Wright knew she had the opportunity to create a product that all women would want. In order to get this innovative hair accessory on the market, Wright partnered with Laura Duprey, who had extensive experience in manufacturing. Duprey had a basement where they both worked for two years. The ponytail holders migrated from backstage to the runway, and within months ‘Pulleez’ were being sold at Henri Bendel’s flagship store on New York’s Fifth Avenue. Securing Henri
Bendel’s flagship as Pulleez’s first big retailer was a great confidence booster in the beginning for both Wright and Duprey. The founders’ most incredible business achievement thus far is getting onto QVC, where Wright sold out in less than 5 minutes during her first appearance. Today, Pulleez is the top-selling hair accessory on QVC and the company hopes to continue to thrive on the television network for a long time. Wright and Duprey were also very lucky to be featured on the Today Show soon after Pulleez launched. As an entrepreneur, Wright’s first piece of advice for self-starters and entrepreneurs when branching out to form their own company is to write down 5 clear business goals and then write down the 5 steps it will take to complete those goals. “New businesses take round-the-clock devotion and work, and an unwavering belief that the world would be a better place with your product, company, or service in it,” she says.

When thinking about the future of Pulleez, Wright hopes to expand and be the leading brand name in creating sensible modern accessories that combine beauty and function. In fact, some of Pulleez’s new accessories will appear on QVC next year. Today, Pulleez is sold at luxury retailers and salons nationwide. The brand also has an online store which includes a continuous selection of new charm styles. Visit http://www.pulleez.com/.

BUSINESSES & OPPORTUNITIES
Freelance Workers Who Break the Mold There Are Countless Opportunities to Explore for Freelancers By Billy Cripe, CMO at Field Nation
W
hen you think of freelancers, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? It might be someone who makes a living by writing, marketing, or virtually assisting others, right? Most people think of freelancers as professionals who work in creative, business, or marketing services, but that’s not always the case. There is a whole world of freelancers who work in other industries, but who are these people? First, let’s look at the term “freelancer” to get an idea of what it really means. A “freelancer” is someone who is self-employed and offers their services to a variety of companies at the same time, rather than being employed by a single company in a permanent position. They are independent contractors who have the freedom to set their own hours and who must provide their own equipment to perform the job.
“A “freelancer” is someone who is self-employed and offers their services to a variety of companies at the same time, rather than being employed by a single company in a permanent position.” That said, there are no constraints in the definition about which industries freelancers have to work in, and the advent of newer and better technologies has only helped to make the variety of industries broader. Here, we take a look at a variety of freelance careers that you might not have considered.
televisions, stereos, and other equipment. They might also work with individuals who need personal repairs done or with businesses that need their company equipment installed, maintained, or serviced.
Freelancers are independent contractors who have the freedom to set their own hours and who provide their own equipment to perform the job.
Although most field service technicians find themselves utilized by large corporations, others have found plenty of work on their own. With the proper knowledge and skills, you can find opportunities as a freelance field service technician, too. Property Preservation Professionals Like field service technicians, property preservation professionals must travel to their clients’ homes or places of business to perform the work. This category of professionals includes: ■
Landscapers
■
Gardeners
■
Carpenters
■
Painters
However, not everyone who falls into this category is a freelancer. For example, you can hire a company rather than a single freelancer to do your landscaping. Other people, like gardeners, might fall under the category of

Though there are many employment avenues in this field, there are opportunities for freelancers in the property preservation industry as well.
“Like field service technicians, property preservation professionals must travel to their clients’ homes or places of business to perform the work.” Hospitality Workers When you think of jobs in the hospitality industry, you probably think of people who work in hotels, restaurants, and casinos, but some of these same positions can be performed on a freelance basis — like private caterers and event planners. Although you won’t find these people employed by hotels or cruise lines, they can find work with businesses and individuals who require their services on an as-needed basis. According to BLS.gov, the event planner job outlook is good and is expected to grow by 10 percent from 2014 to 2024. Event planners make, on average, $46,490 per year, but the potential is higher for individuals who run their own businesses.
Field Service Technicians It’s commonly assumed that freelancers work from home. While this is true of freelancers in certain positions, this doesn’t always hold true for every industry. Field service technicians are one example of professionals who must travel and work on-site with their clients. A field service technician is someone who provides maintenance and repair services for various electronic issues. For example, they might service computers, point-of-sale (POS) systems, security systems, appliances,
“domestic employee,” rather than “freelancer.”
Health and Wellness Professionals There are countless opportunities for health and wellness professionals in today’s market, but few who think of going freelance. However, it’s actually fairly easy to offer health and wellness services on a freelance basis. Examples of freelance careers in this industry include: Continued on page 30

It sounds crazy, I know: Trees that speak, communicate, and counterbalance us? But what if they do and what if that’s exactly what we humans need now more than ever to get back into balance? Not so long ago hippies were ridiculed for hugging trees, but science has since confirmed what an incredible impact that vibrations, energy, and the information that trees provide can have on humans. Since the advent of the internet, more and more people have connected through social networks and are increasingly losing the connection to their own nature. For the first time in history, Olive Tree People is reconnecting people with their nature, that which creates balance in their lives, and it makes no difference whether they are on a mount of olives or in downtown L.A. We are now building the network through which millions of people will connect with their nature. Imagine if you had had a chance at the beginning of the cell phone era to participate in building the network of cell towers. You’d now be earning from every single phone call and byte of data that now passes through these networks every single second of the day. Well our towers are called OliveNetSets (olive tree + olive transmitter) and our time is NOW. We look forward to speaking with you! Sincerely yours,

Keep in mind that you might need a degree and/or certification to practice in one of these areas, even if you are planning to work on your own. Once you have those credentials, however, working with private clients or with a variety of companies is possible, since the demand for wellness and education programs has increased. For example, while you can be employed by a school or community organization as a public health educator, you may choose to work with a variety of companies on a contract basis instead. You can charge for speaking at conferences, visiting schools to educate the students about health and wellness, or collaborating with specialists within a community to help boost the overall community’s health. As another example, a personal trainer may work independently with several gyms and companies in their area or with private clients in their homes. Teachers and Tutors You might think of teachers as being employed by various school districts, but more and more teachers are taking their knowledge and skills and turning them into a freelance practice. For example, a previously full-time schoolteacher might decide to go freelance and

“As a freelance instructor or tutor, you’ll have more control over your rates to earn above the average for employed teachers.” Lawyers Lawyers and paralegals often work at legal firms, although some lawyers might choose to start their own practice. Still, we don’t generally think of them as “freelancers.” There are lawyers, however, who work with various firms on a freelance basis from time to time. As described by Donna Seyle from AttorneyatWork.com, “freelance lawyers fill the void between primary or in-house counsel and legal process outsourcing.” She goes on to say that freelance lawyers, “often play a handson role in the development of case theory, and they can make court appearances and attend depositions.” Although these “contract lawyers” were once seen as less successful professionals, Seyle points out that times have changed and there is now more respect for lawyers who choose to take the freelance route. Freelance Careers You Didn’t Think Of Being a freelancer doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a writer, designer, or other creative or marketing professional. It simply means that you’re working independently with a variety of businesses or in a number of different industries. There are countless opportunities for freelancers in numerous fields, so don’t be afraid to explore the possibility of working for yourself with multiple clients if you like the idea of going freelance. As someone who has been selfemployed since the age of 23, Bella Bambino founder Rebecca Barlow has run into every bottleneck and inefficiency you could possibly imagine. Along the way, she’s learned a few major lessons: One, she’s learned that there’s no magic potion to increase the need to be more productive — instead, it’s something she’s had to figure out over the years. Second, she’s learned that sometimes, it’s a matter of waiting it out when it’s become difficult to be productive and get things done. However, when she hasn’t had the luxury of waiting it out, she’s learned some crucial tips to maximize productivity: 1: Delegate! Take a good look at each of your employees’ strengths and weaknesses and delegate accordingly. You can’t do everything on your own — there are no self-made millionaires — only team-made. If you don’t yet have a team of staff working for you, look into outsourcing. Virtual assistants are awesome! You can outsource tasks like bookkeeping, and things that will free you up to be creative and focus on building your business. 2: Stop checking email first! We’re all guilty of opening up the email first thing in the morning or right when we get to our desk. Most of the time, emails aren’t time-sensitive and can wait until later. Tackle the most important tasks of your day first thing in the morning! Then, you will have all the time you want for emails and social media! 3: Two-minute rule! This is something I read about a while ago and it really works. If something takes less than two minutes, do it now! You’ll be surprised at how many tasks take under two minutes, and you will clear a lot from your to-do list very quickly if you follow this rule. 4: Exercise! In order to be at maximum productivity, you must take care of yourself first. Ideally, you should exercise in the morning and spend a little time in prayer or meditation and focus on how you want the day to go. Tony Robbins calls this “priming.” Take some time for yourself every morning before you start working to set the tone for your day — you’ll be surprised at how much more productive you are when you put yourself first! 5: Set the tone! Whether you’re working from home or an office, make sure to have a dedicated space for creativity and workflow. I like to light a candle, and put some background music on. SUCCESS STORIES
Think Outside the Box Self-Made Multimillionaire Has Worked from Home (Online) Since the Age of 22 By Trace Patterson
I
n the early ‘90s at age 20, Andrew Greenstein stuttered so severely that he could barely say his own name without a violent struggle. Believing the corporate world would never accept him, Greenstein launched his own online term paper assistance site in 1994 (www.fastpapers.com and hundreds of others like it). By 1996, he had developed quite an operation from his small New Jersey condo via a dial-up modem. He had sales coming in globally, phones ringing off the hook day and night, and staff around the country working for him. He never had to say a word. It was all digital. Greenstein worked as many as 125 hours per week perfecting the art of the Internet sale, specialized in search engine placement long before it was called SEO, and was a multimillionaire by the time he was 25. He had created what were then unique online marketing strategies to dramatically increase website traffic with hardly any advertising budget at all. Long before Google was a household name or placed any importance on backlinks, Greenstein saw the practical importance of getting large volumes of relevant sites to “refer” their visitors to his own. Before launching the term paper assistance sites, Greenstein’s only work experience was the high school jobs he had at supermarkets and fast food chains. He acquired a degree in marketing and business but knew he wanted so much more. He shares, “I always saw couples in their 20s and 30s so concerned about money, budgeting, and whether or not they could pay their bills. I wanted to simply create my own income streams and make enough to live such that I didn’t have to worry whether the lobster cost more than the crab on the menu.” Greenstein squashed most of the competition in his industry and by the year 2001, he had sold his business for millions and retired at the age of 28 — with a plan to invest his huge nest egg in tax-free municipal bonds and live luxuriously off of the interest. He traveled the world, participated in unique charities, and even retired his own parents to Florida.
32
On the side, he created a self-run search engine: Azoos.Com. While not very efficient, the search engine cashed in on that era’s “paid site submission” phase and brought in an extra easy $70,000/year while retired. He dabbled in sites like ChargebackPrevention. com to help online credit card merchants learn to prevent revenue loss from chargebacks — but, mostly, he spent those years doing what so few ever get to do: enjoying his success.
“Be the boss you’ve always dreamed of. For me, that boss is smart, thinks outside the box, but is also relaxed, fun, forgiving, and willing to laugh and let go.” Since then, Greenstein has disciplined himself to overcome his stuttering problem, began doing motivational speaking from time to time, and has raised two children who are now in their tweens and teens, and has “gone back to work at home” while they’re in school. He now runs a successful resume writing site (ResumeWritingGroup.com) and has built 3 unique mansions he rents out to high-end tourists in the Orlando, FL area for vacations and family reunions. Most incredibly, he markets those 3 mansions strictly online — using the same tactics and strategies that made him successful in the first place. His game-themed estate home “The Great Escape Lakeside” (GreatEscapeLakeside.com) is on 10 privately gated acres, sleeps up to 45 people, and has been featured on Fox News

and in The Guinness Book of World Records. His other estates have been on HGTV and in major travel, decorating, and other magazines. Greenstein says, “Just a few years ago, I never could’ve predicted I would own homes with laser mazes and escape rooms — or that I’d be marketing them as vacation rentals around the world.” Greenstein remarks, “I think outside the box and try not to be a stringent, stressed planner like so many other entrepreneurs. I believe life is about being in the moment and just having FUN. When I live, love, and let go, ideas flow more freely. I don’t think time flies when you’re truly having fun. People get into routines, and then wonder, ‘Where did the year go?’ — but when your days and weeks are filled with truly unique experiences, you look back at last month and say, “Wow, that seems like so long ago now, so many experiences ago.” Since 1994, Greenstein has worked only for himself … at home. His “goal” is to never hold any kind of corporate job and to continue to defy mainstream ideas about business and marketing, doing things “his own way” to generate his own income — when, where, and how he wants. He advises, “Be the boss you’ve always dreamed of. For me, that boss is smart, thinks outside the box, but is also relaxed, fun, forgiving, and willing to laugh and let go.” www.homebusinessmag.com

Kick-Start Your Advertising Campaign
with Key SEO Tactics The Absolute Basic Principles of Getting Traction in Search Engines By Tim Schmidt
I
nternet Marketing is perhaps the most important part of any business’s advertising campaign these days. If you aren’t marketing online, you are allowing your competition to literally steal business from you. Every day, tens of millions of people log onto the Internet to buy products. This number is growing every single passing year. Just last year, on Black Friday, the Internet did more gross sales volume in comparison to retail outlets for the first time ever. Think about the last time you were looking for information — where did you look for it? When is the last time you took your search to the Yellow Pages? Odds have it — you went to your favorite search engine. Whether that was Google, Yahoo, Bing, or another search engine, you most likely went online to find out information about a product or service. Perhaps you were reading reviews about a particular vehicle you are looking to purchase, or maybe you are looking for the top rated real estate agent in your local vicinity. Whatever the reason for your search, you are bound to pull up answers. The Internet is literally the Manhattan of advertising. More people are being enraptured by the Internet on a daily basis than even cable television. The demographics are all over the board; people from all walks of life turn to the information superhighway to conduct searches, buy products, and make decisions. If you own a business, and do not have an Internet presence, you are not being found or keeping up with the trends of today. Time and time again I speak with business owners who spend money on print ads who cannot tell me a ballpark return on investment for their efforts. With Internet marketing, and particularly with SEO, not only can you track a proper return on investment, but you can also get an exact read on the number of people who have seen your website on a daily basis. You can see what their actions were, get an
idea of how many pages they viewed, and see how much time they spent on your website. From there, you can dial in your efforts and scale them to enhance the user experience. Search engine optimization is the function of promoting a

If you are a beginner and need to beef up your information on SEO, this will give you the basic guidelines you will need to give your business a fighting chance to compete locally, nationally, or globally. Of course, not all SEO is equal, and hiring an expert is the logical next step, but I can show you what you or someone in your office can do in order to have the absolute basics down to a science and foster an environment where your website is viewed as healthy in search engines and can maximize its potential. First off, search engine optimization, or “SEO”, is the function of enhancing and promoting a website to increase the number of visitors which are received by the website coming through the search engines. There are
Tip #1: Keep it Simple. Use WordPress as a content management system platform for your website. It’s the most user-friendly platform currently offered and it makes updating content a cinch. If anyone in your business can use Microsoft Word or Excel, they can use WordPress. It’s easy to update the website to change store hours, update policies, or just let people know about promotions.

Tip #3: Content is King Again, your content must not only engage your audience, but it also must keep the search engines in mind. If your content lacks the proper use of keywords, you are not giving yourself a chance. When people hire an SEO agency, the more advanced tactics include using these keywords in title tags as well as optimizing images, including geo-tagging them for local relevancy. These days, everyone must have a social media presence. Social media is quickly becoming the most important factor in whether a business will sink — or swim — online. A social media campaign not only shows Google that you “exist”, but it shows them that you

Google Plus will also be a login you can use for YouTube. Get a promotional video on your YouTube channel and link it to your website. YouTube also allows you to use your channel to link to all of your other associated social media properties. This gives your site a massive boost as well. Do not overlook the power of YouTube, because when people “Google” your business name, your promotional video will most likely show up on page one. Why? Because Google owns YouTube.

Tip #4: Social Media is a Must Here are some tips that will help boost your social media presence and clarify which social media platforms are the ones you need to have a presence on if your company wants to succeed online. For starters, go out and get a Google Plus (Google My Business) page. This is the most important part of any campaign. Google literally mails a postcard to each and every business registered on Google Plus to confirm that they are indeed at the location they mail it to. Once confirmed, the business gets extra credibility from Google.

Starting a home based business can be a tricky venture. There is a lot involved and it takes considerable skills and knowledge to navigate what are, at times, turbulent waters. But, having the opportunity to lock arms with two industry leaders who have over 33 years of combined network marketing experience, and who have already led teams to great success, makes these waters much calmer. Add to that the ability to simply plug into a Fully Automated Marketing Success System that features fully paid magazine advertising and these leaders closing your sales, and the waters become downright smooth sailing. Introducing the TDi Pros Team, led by Sally Darling and Gail Rahill. With many years of experience in the network marketing industry, Sally and Gail have learned exactly what it takes to be successful. Long-time business partners who both left the corporate world to take advantage of the opportunity to work from home with their children, they have transformed countless hours of hard work, research, and trial and error into a formula that works for everyone. And they’ve taken that formula and refined it into an automated system for their TiDom Inc. team. TiDom is an abbreviated form of the words “time freedom” and it describes perfectly what members can achieve when they join this top-tier business with Sally’s and Gail’s team. “This is such a powerful business,” one team member says. “TiDom has a

TiDOM offers a wide range of product packages that appeal to people who desire to improve the overall quality of their financial and personal "health." Coreena D’Alessandro Provides a Fresh Take on Aromatherapy By Sherilyn Colleen

assage, bath salts and aromatherapy candles may be great mood-altering treatments to use at home, but Aromatherapist Coreena D’Alessandro creates a better alternative for a busy woman on the go. D’Alessandro believes that aromatherapy should fit perfectly into modern life: stylishly, effectively, and considerately. The entrepreneur held a passion for essential oils and aromatherapy, but struggled with the current delivery methods that were dated, messy, and overpowering. D’Alessandro decided to team up with longtime friend and fine jewelry designer Marianne VanderWall to create the COR Pendant: a sleek, elegant and forward-thinking pendant that helps introduce the centuries-old practice of aromatherapy to a new generation of women who are taking control of their health. Passionate about toxic-free lifestyle practices, as well as essential oils and their natural benefits, Coreena D’Alessandro wanted to offer women a fashionable accessory that

could help them naturally feel calm, stay focused and harness energy when necessary. With this in mind, striving to craft an alternative to the plastic aromatherapy inhaler used throughout the industry, she partnered with Marianne, in an effort to create a beautiful and sophisticated solution for the modern woman who has an appreciation for style and health. Through this partnership came the creation of the luxurious and clever Cor Pendant + Cor Wick™ innovation. “We chose specific blends of crisp, clean and sweet essential oils that specifically elevate mood,” says D’Alessandro. “We wanted this to be a timeless fashion piece that was also functional. This pendant is not only elegant, but the essential oils provide the wearer with endless benefits.” D’Alessandro believes that Aromatherapy can help instantly improve your mood. Since the human brain can register scent twice as quickly as it can pain, the aroma of essential oils bypasses everything and goes straight to the nervous system, allowing direct access to

Taste for the Exotic Students from the Dominican Republic Launch Juice Line in America and Provide Opportunities for Local Farmers By Laura Baumgartner
T
he idea for Caribé Exotic began when Luis Solis and Cristian Robiou were attending school in the United States. They noticed the juice offerings did not match the quality of flavor or experience they had grown accustomed to while growing up in the Dominican Republic. They had always enjoyed natural, fresh-tasting, nutrient-packed tropical juices. Not fans of simple orange or apple juice, Solis and Robiou wanted to bring the exotic to the U.S. in the healthiest and freshest way possible. In addition to bringing the exotic flavors from the Caribbean to the U.S., they also wanted to create opportunities and economic stability for their treasured island, the Dominican Republic. For Caribé Exotic, this process starts with local and small farmers. “On a trip home to the Dominican Republic after college, I noticed that many farmers were

leaving their tropical fruits in the field to rot or selling them roadside for pennies,” says Solis. “But, in the United States, these fruits sold for several dollars apiece.” By purchasing fruit directly from the farmers, Caribé Exotic gives them access to different markets they otherwise would not be able to reach. It also aids in financing specific food and beverage certifications for the farmers, such as an organic certification. After creating sample flavors and taste testing with friends, the duo did more research and found out about a new technology called HPP that preserves the juice without killing the freshness nor the nutrition. Caribé offers exotic flavors that a lot of immigrants grew up with, but are not available in fresh form in the U.S. Some of the exotic flavors are: passion fruit, starfruit, guava, and acerola, which is the fruit with the highest amount of Vitamin C and antioxidants on

The Lite line is full of nutrition yet low in sugar and calories, and only features five natural/ organic ingredients. The Cana line uses raw pressed cane juice as a base. Caribé Exotic recently came out with a new coconut water line. The coconut water is never heated and they are able to do this by using lime juice as a natural preservative. Solis and Robiou want to market this line as a natural/fresh alternative to highly processed and chemically enhanced sports recovery drinks. Visit http://www.caribejuice.com/.

Desirable Address Office centers also offer the opportunity for a home business to gain a more desirable address, without the hassle of moving. Should a need arise where the home business needs to either have a mailing address or office in the city, home business owners can reach out to office centers in their desired geographic market and contract for the necessary requirements — again without the long-term commitment.

Home businesses offer many perks, but do have some shortcomings. When a home business owner needs a more professional space or other professional services, an office center is a great addition that, more often than not, leads to further business success. 5 Affordable Tools for Businesses Small and mid-sized businesses depend on affordable, reliable, and flexible software solutions to keep everything running smoothly. But how do you choose which one is right for your business with so many available options? We’re here to help. Below we’ve compiled five affordable tools that will supercharge your company’s efficiency. Each product is easy to learn, economical, and will help you and your team become more productive and energized. Trello With Trello, employees at small businesses can create projects and move them along a timeline of completion-status steps. It’s the easy way to manage projects, regardless of the size of your team. Trello lets you create and label tasks, assign members to certain projects, attach relevant files to the task card, and create checklists. Trello makes it possible to collaborate on projects from an entire world away. JotForm Need an easy way to collect and manage data? JotForm makes online form creation simple, whether you need a contact form, registration form, survey, or lead collection form. As long as you’re able to drag and drop form fields with your mouse, then you can create online forms using JotForm. It should be a staple for data-hungry small businesses, and it integrates with dozens of CRMs, email marketing services, and payment gateways. FreshBooks FreshBooks accounting software is absolutely perfect for small businesses, with features like recurring invoices, automatic bank importing, and advanced time tracking and billing. The end result? Your business gets paid faster and with less hassle. It’s also very reasonably priced compared to most accounting softwares, which is ideal for smaller companies. HipChat HipChat is so easy and robust that you might not even need email anymore to communicate. Upload files, direct message, or chat in designated team chat rooms instantly. It also makes remote work easier than ever, turning any living room into a full workstation. If your company offers employees the opportunity to work remotely, you’re going to need HipChat to keep communication strong. Box Box is a must-have for small businesses focused on productivity, allowing you to access your files anywhere, anytime, and from any device. Now you can travel anywhere, or run a completely remote team, and have all of your files at your fingertips. The company was an early pioneer of cloud storage, and now more than 275,000 businesses rely on Box around the world. They’re also touted for being the most secure cloud provider, with SSAE 16 Type II compliance and 256-bit encryption. Although the tools above are great for small businesses, they really work well for organizations of all sizes — which is important if you’re growing and don’t want to change processes down the road. Each one will free up your time so you can enjoy a productive, headache-free winter. Chad Reid is director of communications for JotForm (https://jotform.com), a popular online form building platform.

PLAY BIGGER: How Pirates, Dreamers, and Innovators Create and Dominate Markets (Harper Business/ June 14th) reveals how entrepreneurs can accelerate their companies and debilitate competitors by embracing the new strategy of category design. With this discipline, entrepreneurs can create and develop a new market category, and condition the market so it will demand your solution and crown your company as its category king. That’s how explosive and enduring category kings like Amazon.com, Facebook and Google took most of the profits from the categories they defined. The authors researched thousands of U.S. venture capital–backed tech start-ups founded from 2000 to 2015, and found that category kings earned a whopping 76 percent of the market capitalization of their entire categories.

averne Ward, the founder and owner of Ella’s Daughter Card Collection, started her home-based independent greeting card business. Now that she is retired from law enforcement, she decided it was time to unshelve her long-standing dream of being an entrepreneur. One of her fulfilled dreams was earning her BBA in Business Administration at Adelphi University in Garden City, NY, back in January of 1981.
Ward tends to takes notes in her journal during church service and bible study, and when ideas come to her mind, she jots them down. As she was writing notes, suddenly the light bulb came on. She decided that she would write greeting cards from her notes in her journal. She believes that people give greeting cards to express caring, love, sympathy, admiration, regrets, hospitality and faith in God.
Ward’s friend has lupus and she inspired the entrepreneur to produce a card line. Every month her friend invites senior citizen women to her home for breakfast and gives each attendee a basket of toiletries, laundry and cleaning products. One day during lunch, her friend said, “I may have lupus but it doesn’t have me. If I don’t find something to do with myself, I get depressed.” At that moment, Ward realized that she wanted to start a business to help people with serious illness and grief.
The first cards Ward produced were empathy cards. With Empathy Cards, she wants to help people to understand, share, connect to each other with honest relationships, and to support both physical and emotional health (during a serious illness or grief). Ward’s weak area is graphic art. She hired a freelance graphic artist that is an expert at interpreting her designs. Ward writes and designs because those are what she considers her best skills, and she delegates the rest. With

Mobile Money
Management for Millennials Don’t Put Off Saving and Investing for Another Day By Andy Meyer, CEO of Financial Fitness Group
I
t makes sense that the Millennial generation — people currently in their twenties and thirties — don’t think too much about saving and investing. After all, the time spent in your twenties is generally a fun ride without too much thought put into what may come down the line. Once you hit your thirties, things start to become a bit more serious, but it still feels like there’s time to put it off until tomorrow. Staff working in HR are well aware of what happens when Millennials live paycheck to paycheck — their money management goes south, and they end up more stressed out at work and unable to concentrate. Fortunately, financial education programs have been looking at ways to capture the attention and engagement of Millennials, and getting them where they spend the majority of their time — on their mobile devices — seems to be the key. It’s understandable if Millennials don’t find investing “cool”, or if they feel like they can just put their future off for another day. In addition to HR providing financial education as part of employees’ benefits, they can also recommend fun mobile apps like these to help Millennials take control of their financial future.
FinMason
When it comes to investments, something that tends to intimidate Millennials is the amount of statistics, pie charts, and strange mathematical symbols that pop up everywhere. Dealing with money can be daunting enough — especially if you don’t have a lot of it — but adding in foreign financial jargon is likely to scare Millennials off. That’s where FinMason comes in — it puts investment language in straightforward terms and uses bar graphs for its portfolio comparisons rather than pie charts. In an article on US News, FinMason CEO Kendrick Wakeman is quoted as saying that “After seeing our analysis, 73 percent of them became comfortable with 48

The Openfolio app allows users to create a profile and become friends with other money-minded individuals, and the twist is that the network is built around sharing investment strategies. Managing Your Cash Flow In order to keep your business ticking over, it’s important to know exactly how the money flowing in and out of your accounts should be managed. Inconsistent Clients Spell Financial Trouble Nearly all small businesses thrive on repeat customers. If you are receiving regular payments from a set of loyal clients, then you can expect your cash flow to prosper. However, problems can occur when clients begin paying on a more ad hoc basis rather than completing a direct debit on the same day each month. Whilst delayed payment on a couple of occasions is never worth splitting hairs over, consistently missed payments can begin to take their toll on your business plan. If your business expenditure relies on prompt cash inflow, then you can soon find yourself grinding to a halt. In order to improve your cash flow, you need to ensure all clients are paying on time. If any of them repeatedly fail to come up with the goods, then it might be worth severing your connection with them completely. It Pays To Be Savvy With Your Own Payments Whilst regular income will go some way towards fixing your cash flow problems, it’s not the only solution. Careful management of your own expenditure can also help you retain your money for longer. Say you’ve got the monthly utility bills to pay, as well as payments to a number of suppliers or wholesalers. You can limit the amount of money that leaves your account at one time by ensuring these payments don’t coincide. Keep Track Of Expenses Both Big And Small Even in larger companies, it can be tempting to ignore smaller expenses. But if you run a home business, then negligence like this can soon add up. Ensuring that all your employees know exactly what they can claim on and how far they can stretch these limits is paramount.

Mobile apps and websites make learning about investments and savings fun and educational for Millennials striving for financial wellness.
Wealthfront
For those with a little more experience and a few more assets to move around, Wealthfront is an automated investment service that’s garnered huge praise — and currently moving more than $2 billion in assets. As US News explains, all Millennials need to do is enter their age, their annual income, and their cash and/or liquid assets, and Wealthfront sets them up with investment options that suit their profile. The program is also easily accessed via computer, smartphone, or tablet, which means that tech-savvy Millennials will have investment advice right in their pockets at all times.

Rebalance IRA
Another program that isn’t quite as investment-focused, Rebalance IRA instead looks to save its users money on annual fees. IntelligentHQ notes that the program suggests it can help its customers save between 45 and 72% in annual fees — a total that could really add up for heavy-spending Millennials. It can also create custom retirement plans for those who are looking further into the future. If your young employees would rather talk with someone experienced, there’s a retirement investment advisor on hand to take questions for free as well.

The Future is (Finance) Friendly
Getting Millennial employees to consider financial fitness shouldn’t be like pulling teeth. By using mobile apps and websites that make learning about investments and savings fun and educational, it should be easier to get Millennials to realize that financial wellness should start as soon as possible. Your New Economy Money on Demand There’s a unique online business model that is poised to explode onto the scene. And the resulting debris caused by this explosion will be in the form of money, and lots of it. Welcome to A New Economy. Your New Economy. An Economy with which, for the first time, you can participate ... and profit big. Introducing CFF Retail, where the massively lucrative penny auction industry collides with the highly profitable ecommerce industry. CFF Retail marries these two thriving economic sectors, and has opened its doors for Sales Associates to be able to profit from both industries under one company roof.
All of this is done hands-free for you, with the company taking care of these time-consuming and costly functions on your behalf. Introducing Qkabids: the first penny auction business model of its kind. One that offers you an unprecedented opportunity to share in the unbelievably lucrative profits generated when bidders win items. You see, there is a special kind of math that takes over in a penny auction. In an effort to break down the powerful math, at the risk of bringing back memories of the dreaded SAT math questions, here’s an illustration of the earning power of the Qkabids penny auction:
net profits of ALL penny auction sales every week in equal distributions to each Sales Associate.
To put this into perspective, imagine if Amazon offered to sell products for you and give you 20% of the profit on each sale. And then upped the ante by giving you a generous share of the company’s profits each week. And all of this is done on autopilot by Amazon. You don’t have to list the ad, write the product description, fulfill the order, or even ship it. That is exactly your opportunity here. A hands-free sales and profit machine at your service. And this machine is one that results in profit margins even higher than those made on the powerhouse Amazon platform.
“You may be thinking that it will cost thousands of dollars to become a Sales Associate. But nothing could be further from the truth.” So How Does This Work?
Well, first you become a CFF Retail Associate. And then the door to the penny auction industry opens for you in a very profitable way. For the first time ever, you now have the opportunity to tap into the high profits made on penny auctions. All without having to own any software ... or assume any risk of running or maintaining the complex platform. Nor will you have to list your products, write product descriptions, or even handle fulfillment or shipping. www.homebusinessmag.com
12-60_HBMWINTER16_R1.indd 51
For the first time ever, you now have the opportunity to tap into the high profits made on penny auctions.
And if you actively build a team of Sales Associates and a customer organization, you’ll be generously rewarded with fast start bonuses when you refer new Associates, and will earn recurring commissions on auction bid sales. There are 100 pennies in $1, and each bid costs .50 cents. So 100 pennies x 50 cents = $50 Therefore, one auction dollar is valued at $50. So let’s assume you’re selling an iPad on the auction that retails at $800 and sells on the auction for $50. Based on the fact that each penny has a real value of 50 cents, then the 5,000 penny bids that were placed totals a real value of $2,500 generated for Qkabids. Amazing! A product retailing at $800 earns $2,500 gross, and $1,700 once the retail price of the iPad is deducted. And, the auction winner just saved 94% on a new iPad! But Here’s the Best Part for You
You may be thinking that it will cost thousands of dollars to become a Sales Associate. But nothing could be further from the truth. You can start your business for less than $300. So let’s recap. You have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tap into and profit from the extraordinarily lucrative penny auction industry. You have the opportunity to earn from a powerful weekly Retail Profit Share. And you earn generous commissions when you share this powerful business and platform with others. It doesn’t get much better than this. To learn more, go here, and then watch your email for the exciting details. www.YourUltimateEarnings.com
You will earn a commission equivalent to 20% of the net profit earned from this auction sale. So, doing the math, you just pocketed $340 by letting this powerful penny auction platform go to work for you. Now, here’s where it gets even better. Not only do Associates earn from their personal auction product sales, but they also earn from a Retail Profit Pool that pays out 40% of the

Look for smart money. There are lots of options for capitalizing on your idea. Don’t be afraid to look at things like crowdfunding, friends and family, SBA microloans or online lenders to find the capital you might need. Don’t be discouraged if you get turned down at the bank. Look for the money source that makes the most sense for you and your business. Celebrate the wins. There’s nothing easy about starting a home-based business. And taking it to the next level isn’t any easier. It’s important to celebrate the wins — even the small wins.
Taking your home-based business and turning it into something bigger might not be the goal of everyone building a business from their home. But if that is what you want to do, the advice from Monosoff can help you do it — or at the very least, help you build a growing and thriving business from your home. Ty Kiisel is a contributing author focusing on small business financing at OnDeck, a technology company solving small business’s biggest challenge: access to capital. With over 25 years of experience

One important step is to officially structure your company as an LLC or corporation. Choosing to operate as an LLC instead of a corporation will offer several tax advantages as your business grows (even if it outgrows your house), including: 1. Not getting taxed twice. A limited liability company can sell its assets and operations and liquidate without triggering a double tax — meaning both an entity-level tax and a shareholder-level tax. Purchasers strongly prefer to purchase assets, rather than equity interests, because an asset sale generally results in a “step-up” in the tax basis of the acquired assets from the seller’s cost (net of depreciation) to the purchaser’s cost. This step-up entitles the purchaser to greater depreciation deductions and/or less gain when the acquired assets ultimately are sold. Purchasers are acutely aware of the tax benefits associated with a basis step-up and typically discount the purchase price significantly where corporate shareholders insist on a stock sale in order to avoid the double tax that would result from an asset sale.

2. An equity compensation program that is treated more favorably than a corporate equity compensation program. If a limited liability company grants a key employee a “profits interests” (whether restricted or vested), the employee will not recognize income or gain at the time he receives the profits interest (or, if the interest is restricted, at the time it vests), but only when the company is ultimately acquired or goes public. On the other hand, regular corporate stock options trigger ordinary income when exercised, qualified corporate stock options trigger alternative minimum tax www.homebusinessmag.com

when exercised and grants of vested corporate stock require the recipient either to pay fair value for the stock or recognize ordinary income on the difference between fair value and purchase price. 3. Losses that can generally pass through directly to its owners as current deductions and that can offset the income they earn from their “day jobs.” This is especially helpful in the beginning stages of a new company. Of course, this loses significance once the company turns a profit. In a corporation, however, this would fall under operating losses and not offer the same benefit. 4. Distributing some or all of its earnings to its owners without triggering the double tax. This is imposed when a profitable corporation distributes earnings to its shareholders as dividends. 5. An easier transition to an IPO or acquisition. Since an overwhelming majority of startups are financed entirely by friends and family or a combination of friends and family and angels and then are acquired or go public

without venture capital funding, selecting a business structure for the purpose of attracting venture capital funding is putting the cart before the horse. This is particularly so if a limited liability company reaches a stage in its development where it wishes to attract such funding; it can incorporate at that time without incurring any tax liability. Family Tackles Socks Industry Shelby McKee Turns Dilemma into a Startup Business By Laura Baumgartner
I
n 2009, Keysocks founder Shelby McKee was getting ready to go to a Cincinnati Bengals football game on a brisk fall Sunday. Wanting to wear flats and with the temperature falling, she realized she needed “no show” socks. Traditional footies always fell off her feet or scrunched up and never provided warmth. Armed with scissors and sheer genius, she cut a hole in her husband’s kneehigh dress sock and the Keysock was born!
the name of fashion is worth it, but it does not always have to be painful. From launch, Keysocks has brought style and comfort to women and girls all over the world desiring to wear their favorite heels, flats or sneakers without being annoyed by socks that slip, being hurt by painful blisters, or suffering with cold legs. McKee designed the socks to stay in place and out of sight.
It took her three years. McKee’s dad was just retired; he had been in sales and the business world for years and was ready to help her start Keysocks. She researched for months, thought for sure there’d be something like this on the market, but couldn’t find a no-show knee high sock anywhere. McKee recruited her two sisters, Stefanie and Christy, and began working to manufacture the first and only knee high no-show sock.
Keysocks are available in Original or Light versions. “Light Keysocks are made from a revolutionary, patented process that converts coffee residue into an eco-friendly, sumptuously light fiber, perfect for spring or summer,” McKee shares. “Made from moisture-wicking Coolmax polyester and form-fitting Lycra spandex, Original Keysocks are a tad thicker than the light version and provide the foundation for a day in an icebox office or your night out on the town!”
There are times when making sacrifices in

can be worn invisibly with any full-length pair of pants — perfect for business professionals. A strategic keyhole opening on the top of Keysocks makes it nearly impossible for anyone to notice the garment inside a shoe. Toes are kept cozy and legs have an added layer of warmth for chilly environments. “More adventuresome fashionistas pair their Keysocks with capris, skirts and dresses,” McKee says. “Keysocks are the must-have fashion accessory for every season or style and we can’t wait to see how our business grows!” Visit www.keysocks.com.

Q: And with this, you felt it immediately? JR: I did; I was so excited. I was like a chatterbox all day. I had so much energy — I’d read it in the morning. All day, I was just really energized and I kept thinking about different things we could do and ways we could change this or make this more like this. And it was just really a great feeling I had.
“I think it’s dangerous not to care about any aspect of one’s life. To become indifferent, I think is not a good thing. – Julia Roberts Q: In this time of your career — being famous, the paparazzi and things like this —is it a thing you don’t care about, is it a part of your life, or is it a boring thing? JR: I think it’s dangerous not to care about any aspect of one’s life. To become indifferent, I think is not a good thing. It’s not really part of my everyday life. So I don’t have to give it too much consideration, I don’t think. Q: Is there a role that you would like to do that you haven’t already done? 56

Answer Anytime “I think they ďŹ nd us roles that we’re meant to play. They ďŹ nd us. â€? – Julia Roberts JR: There better be, or else I guess I don’t have any work. Q: Is there any work that you would like to do that you dreamed to do? JR: I don’t know. I think they find us roles that we’re meant to play. They find us. Q: Money Monster is a film that speaks about the reality about politics and money. Do you think that cinema can be useful to let people understand these kinds of situations and things that happen in real time, our time? JR: Well, that’s the point of movies, isn’t it? Or any kind of art is to be a window into something that maybe we wouldn’t know or illuminate something in a different way. It’s the point of music and poetry and all of that, I think. Q: Not only cinema. JR: Well, just any kind of expression that you share with people, however you do that. I think that’s the point of it, why we do it, why
