This well-known fundraiser is an overnight community walk where teams of participants camp out and take strides in honor of cancer survivors and lost loved ones. Each team raises money for the American Cancer Society which funds research, the Hope Lodge, the Road to Recovery program, the Look Good Feel Better service, as well as Reach to Recovery support groups. The Relay for Life event began in 1985 in Tacoma, Washington when Dr. Gordy Klatt walked around a track for 24 hours. He raised $27,000 for the American Cancer Society and was joined by 340 supporters just one year later. Since then Relay For Life has stretched across the globe, raising nearly $5 billion.
