Performance Notes

Guitar Effects To achieve an effective performance of this work’s guitar part, all effects have been programmed electronically using Logic Studio’s Mainstage 2 application. An index of patches appears at the end of this score to provide musicians with an in idea of sound colors and textures for effective interpretation. The performer should utilize a MIDI footswitch board for the performance, with at least three stomp buttons; the first to trigger the next patch, the second is to be used for the “stomp” function (explained in Notation), and a third to activate the tuner in Mainstage.

Notation Boxed text indicates instructions for operating the footswitch for the guitarist. Patch number; press the ‘next patch’ footswitch. Press ‘next patch’ on a big beat in the time signature. Perform the notated rhythm on the ‘stomp’ footswitch. Press the tuner footswitch to mute guitar and view tuner.

Additional notations: Where this is indicated, notes in the bracket may be played in any order and with any number of repetitions unless otherwise indicated. Do this for the duration that the arrow extends. with pedal

Staging All lights should be off during performance, with photographs projected on a screen at the back of the stage. Do not avoid projected images being superimposed over musicians during performance. In between movements, photographs should fade from one to the other. Piano should be fully open at stage right, with guitar amp mirroring from stage left. The guitarist should sit right of the amp with the footswitch at his feet and the laptop controlling guitar patches within arm’s length. Horn should stand in the center.
