A 2008 report by NCH entitled “Foreclosure to Homelessness: The Forgotten Vic-

tims of the Subprime Crisis” reports that homeless service providers and advocates nationwide are reporting increasing numbers of homeless in their communities as a result of the national foreclosure crisis. Economists and home builders have forecast that the crisis is unlikely to abate this year. NCH hopes Hilton will take advantage of her unexpected voice on the American political scene to issue public comments on homelessness. Hilton made a splash with the tabloids in 2006 when she reportedly gave a $100 bill to a homeless man upon his request. In 2007, after she was arrested for driving under the influence, Hilton expressed her desire to build a “transitional home” for women who are released from jail. “These women just keep coming back because they have no place to go,” she said. Continuing, she noted that recidivism is “a really bad cycle, and if we stop it now, we can make our community a better place.” Commenting on the McCain advertisement criticizing Obama for his celebrity status, Hilton’s mother, Kathy, called the ad “a complete waste of
