SUMMER VACATION SPOTS IN SO. CAL
HOMES SOLD BY RAMIRO & ERICA RIVAS | JOHN AAROE GROUP BEVERLY HILLS | SHERMAN OAKS | SUNSET STRIP | PASADENA | DOWNTOWN
A DAY AT DANA POINT
The unpretentious charm and ocean-oriented character of Dana Point has much to offer ― quiet tidepools, a busy marina, a sportfishing wharf, and the family-friendly Ocean Institute, where you can explore all things from sailing to plankton. Getting out on the water with a kayak or aboard a wildlife cruise is easy, with several companies offering well priced whalewatching and dolphin excursions, and kayak and paddle board rentals. Landlubbers can stroll along the walkway that runs from Dana Wharf to the Ocean Institute, with exhibits on whales and other marine creatures. Docked near the institute is the brig Pilgrim, a replica of the 1825 ship that carried Richard Henry Dana to these shores. You can visit the brig on Sundays between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. 840 E GREEN ST #120, PASADENA IN ESCROW $600k 2321 N CAMPUS AVE, UPLAND
SOLD $780,000
Before the harbor was built in the late '60s, this stretch of shoreline was known as Killer Dana to surfers, who claimed it had some of the best waves in Southern California. The surfers have since moved south to Doheny State Beach, but you'll still find marina shops testifying to the area's surfing history.

The increases will be supported by a rebound in household formation, historically high housing affordability, improving sentiment toward the housing market, and continued strong demand from investors, Fannie Mae said. "We expect home prices to firm further amid a durable housing recovery, continuing to boost household net worth, gradually diminishing the population of underwater borrowers, and reducing incentive for strategic defaults," the Fannie Mae report said.

TWIN PALMS RE-OPENS AFTER 3 YEAR CLOSURE Originally having opened in the mid '90s by the late chef Michael Roberts with an investment from actor Kevin Costner, it quickly became a Pasadena nightlife institution with performances by live bands. The restaurant saw a steady decline in business over the years and eventually closed its doors in 2009. The two palm trees the restaurant is named for, the large white tarps and the familiar white wall exterior still stand, but new owner Sam Khachatrian is reopening the restaurant with a new vision. Michael Neflas, formerly a chef at Drago Centro, is signed on to run the kitchen. He'll serve up a new menu focused on California cuisine with Mediterranean, French and Italian influences.
THE REAL ESTATE RESOURCE
Despite some bumps in the road, the housing upturn is "intact" and rising home prices are expected to boost household net worth and offset fiscal tightening, according to a monthly economic outlook released by economists at Fannie Mae. Fannie Mae economists project that existinghome sales, which were up 9.4 percent last year, will grow by an additional 10.5 percent this year, to 5.15 million homes, and by 6.2 percent in 2014, to nearly 5.5 million homes. Sales of new single-family homes are expected to post even stronger growth -- 15.1 percent this year and 44.1 percent in 2014.
NEW RESTAURANTS Jack Huang, owner of Villa Sorriso, Barcelona, and iXtapa, will be opening another restaurant, 168, in Pasadena, adding to his mini empire of restaurants and night clubs in Old Town. 168, which gets it’s name from the street number that it’s located at on Colorado Boulevard, will be a fresh and modern restaurant that will be taking over the space that Villa Sorriso was located for over a decade. But don’t worry, Villa Sorriso is staying in Old Town, moving down to it’s original location at 46 E. Colorado Blvd.168 will offer a culinary mix of asian fusion cuisine and will offer an expansive drink list as well as an entertaining social scene in the evenings with live music and dj’s. 168 is expected to open in late July 2013.
