Editorial Three months ago, nobody could have ever imagined that the world’s strongest economies will be brought to their knees. Only last March, most economies were projecting growth and seeing how to best exploit opportunities that 2020 promised. Then, without even enough time to blink an eye or understand what was happening, chaos reigned. Malta, together with a handful of other countries, managed the situation better than anyone could have hoped or imagined, flattened the transmission curve, increased hospital capacity, spread awareness through education and avoided any unnecessary economic bleeding. ‘Chapeau!’ to the health authorities is surely in order. Many took a guess as to how the Maltese property market would react. Some expected a market crash or hoped for drastic price reductions in the hope of seizing a bargain. But once again, just like during and following the economic crisis of 2008, the local property market proved its resilience. It is truly remarkable how the property market always carries the backing of the local buyer, even in trying times. This phenomenon is not just truly beneficial to the local economy at large, but also encourages investors to seek jurisdictions in which to reside or invest. No relevant dips in prices have been registered, which gives us courage that as the world gets back on its feet and puts the pandemic into a new chapter of the world’s history books, the second half of 2020 still holds lots to smile about and hope for. One thing is for certain - the pandemic has taught us how important a home is, how to enjoy the pleasures it has to offer, how versatile it can be and how much of a world a home can turn into when you do not have the option to leave it.
