What to expect and prepare for in your Māori healing or bodywork session with Dion BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT 1.

An open mind and a will to be better than before is a great start.
If you are booking in with us there’s usually a reason; be it physical, mental, spiritual or just a clean out. Whatever the reason, we work with your higher consciousness or spirit to evaluate what needs to leave your system in order for you to feel amazing and carry on walking your path to a happy, content and purposeful life.

2.

Having an idea about what you want to work on can be very helpful. People are often aware of what it is that may be holding them back. This could include cords of attachment to and from other people, places or situations; body aches and pains; overthinking, stress, anxiety or depression. Dion can help and support you in working with these issues and help you to remove any blockages to healing. This is true even if you don’t know some of the causes behind the blockages

3.

Drink plenty of water before and after your treatment. Water is essential for life and we ask that you are well hydrated in order to help the energy move out blockages freely.

4.

It’s best if you can plan for a rest period after your session - no-one wants to go to work after a big session clearing out emotional baggage! If you can have a couple of hours for yourself to reflect on your session or take a walk in nature, this will significantly help the healing process.

WHEN YOU COME IN

Dion will greet you and have a brief conversation about your health, your life, the environment you’re working & living in and possibly things about your family etc.

For Mirimiri or Romiromi (Māori massage work), you will be asked to remove clothing (including your bra for women) down to underwear while Dion steps out of the room to read through your notes and/or give you time to change. The removal of your bra and other clothing is due to the fact that Dion needs to access the whole back, legs and arms. IMPORTANT- if you do not feel comfortable removing any or certain items of clothing, please let Dion know before the session. It’s not a problem and the most important thing is that you are comfortable. If you’d prefer to have a female chaperone with you during the session, you are most welcome to arrange one. Rest assured that Dion is professional, compassionate & understanding and some of the issues you may face during your session can feel uncomfortable. This is normal, and why we do these sessions - but being aware of what you might need to feel safe in these sessions is always very helpful. If you have any concerns you can email us on healingaotearoa@gmail.com beforehand. The body work begins on the massage table, face up or down depending on where the practitioner needs to start. Dion will endeavour to keep the body parts he isn’t working on covered for your comfort. If you feel cold or uncomfortable, please make sure you’re communicating with your practitioner. Dion works with the highest intent and respect of your Body, Mind and Spirit. We adhere to a strict code of conduct and confidentiality for you to feel safe and comfortable throughout your treatment. For Healings you will remain clothed and be asked to lay on the table, face up or down depending on where the practitioner needs to start.

DURING YOUR TREATMENT

Every client is different, they have different issues that will be addressed in different ways. Some potential things you may experience include; •

Flickering of the eyelids; this is caused by your brain reaching REM state and releasing old files/memories or mind clutter than no longer serves you.

Tummy rumbles; your stomach may become quite vocal as it processes out emotional baggage that has been swirling around. In Māori medicine, the stomach is a common area where we store emotions or ‘energy in motion’ . When there is a build up your stomach can experience altered function and we can become overwhelmed by these emotions. The rumbling sound can represent the breakdown of these issues and dispersing of energy from this centre.

Throat gurgles, burps, coughs or sneezes, the clearing of your throat or even tears. Some of these are to do with unspoken words that have stockpiled in your neck or throat, or to do with old emotional baggage that is releasing. These normal body responses can help to clear some of this blocked energy.

Visuals. Some people experience visuals however this is not always the case. These visuals are usually colours or memories and sometimes faces of loved ones as you sift through and release any unneeded memories or emotions.

Remember, everyone is different and your experience will be very specific to you, your body and where you’re at right now. No experience is better or worse, and trying to experience your session with no expectations and with a curiosity of what your experiencing is the best way to go. Just do your best and take it easy on yourself.

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

You may be given homework specific to their treatment, which can help to prolong the effects of treatment and increase its long term effectiveness. This can range from awakening the other side of your brain by boosting creative or logical productivity, speaking your truth more, forgiving someone who has caused you pain, or jumping in the ocean to help the release of old energy. Please try to do your best to follow the recommendations from your practitioner, to get the most out of the session for you.

After Māori massage/body work, you may experience tenderness in the worked on areas for a couple of days. This is normal. An epsom salt bath or keeping the muscles warm and rested for a couple of days can really help the recovery process. Healings can continue for at least a few days after the treatment. Again, this is normal and some of the realisations/releases you have during your session may change things significantly in a variety of areas of your life. You can feel very emotional, even unexpectedly. This is because your body may be letting go of things that it’s held onto for years, and a physical release often comes hand in hand with an emotional one. It’s all linked up via your nervous system. This is normal. Practise self care, get some rest and drink plenty of water. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact your practitioner on healingaotearoa@gmail.com

Overall, people tend to find the sessions very enjoyable and often life changing, so please relax and chat to us if you need to.
