The Gadsden sits at the edge of Gadsdenboro Park, the newest large scale park in downtown Charleston. Within the five acre park you will find walking paths lined with flower gardens, chess tables, a bocce court and, of course, lots and lots of green space. Beyond Gadsdenboro Park, residents of The Gadsden are one block from the Cooper River and a short walk to the Charleston Gaillard Center, and the charming Ansonborough and French Quarter neighborhoods. Biography

Christopher Gadsden was born in 1724. He purchased the land that bears his name in 1758 and built an 840 foot wharf on the land in 1771. Upon Congress declaring America's freedom, Christopher gathered people under the Liberty Tree for the first reading of the Declaration of Independence to the colony. Mr. Gadsden was elected Governor of South Carolina, but turned down the role to due health issues from spending 42 weeks in solitary confinement. Gadsden died August 28,1805, in Charleston, and was buried in St. Phillip's Churchyard.

Thomas Gadsden, Christopher's father, purchased land now known as Gadsdenboro & Ansonborough.

Charleston, South Carolina was founded in 1670 and has become a beloved destination known for its colorful history, unparalleled collection of 18th and 19th-century architecture and southern hospitality. Gadsden began using the pen name “Homespun Free-man,� which was a call for colonists to dress in blue homespun clothing, rather than imported black cloth.

Christopher Gadsden purchased 15 acres of high land now known as Gadsdenboro.

Within each residence, gorgeous wide-plank wood flooring is accented with a crafted collection of smooth stone, subway tile, wainscot and locally inspired wrought iron colored cabinetry. All of these elements are beautifully illuminated by natural light cascading through extra large windows. The end result is a brand new space that feels as if it has been around forever.
