PERSPECTIVES FROM THE FOLDED PLANES IN SPACE DEMONSTRATING FORM

Design concept: The concept for this bathroom design is based on planes which are folded slightly from, the horizontal planes of this space, floor and ceiling. These planes create a special effect of movement and continuity. Although bathroom, usually, is not a dynamic space, movement is one of the water’s characteristics. These folded planes diminish in thickness toward forward to create dematerialization effect and sense of pure and plain planes. These folded planes are the most important elements of bathroom in terms of form, design, and also utility. Since all of the fixtures, like bathtub, shower, sinks, and even light fixtures, are recessed in these planes to keep the planes pure. Mirror is used for whole of two walls to reflect the planes and emphasize on continuity and dynamism. Movement in design is emphasized, also, by linear elements. Movement in design is emphasized, also, by linear elements. These linear elements are either the folded planes, which embody the fixture, or the pathways between the folded planes.

Linearity of design emphasizes on continuity and movement. All folded planes are aligned according to the length of the space. Bathtub, for example, is a planar element which is designed in the form of linear element. Mirror is also used as a veneer for the entrance door, which reflects planes on it and symbolizes movement and links interior of this space to exterior. White, as a neutral color, is used for all surfaces to emphasize on purity. DIFFERENT VIEWS OF SHOWER AREA

Design Concept: Convertible chair, is originated from two continues planes, one with fabric for sitting and leaning, and one from steel for supporting the other one. These two continuous planes are based on the shape of the letter ”S”. This chair can rotate 360 degree based on a sphere hinge that helps the rotation. Also, it can be adjusted in an appropriate height for its user. The concept of this chair is based on its flexibility and versatility and having two functions which are completely against each other: working and resting.

BRIEF

The workshop is concerned with the invention and construction of

eco-machines. Eco-machine prototypes will differ both from traditional space making

(Interior + Exterior) models and industrial design. Prototypes (e.g. Furniture): on

one side they refuse a purely representational role but rather derive their material

definition from a form of direct engagement with the surrounding environment. On the

other hand They seek progressive refinement through an open process where both

performances and targets co-evolve and differentiate. Eco-machines will be therefore

both performance oriented while remaining Programmatically opportunistic, intensely

site specific (ecologically friendly) while still typologically undefined. They will feature

a combination of material prototypes (developed through direct testing) and a strategic

manual (developed through on-site observation, abstract diagramming and systemic

Erosion is caused both naturally and by human non-environmental factors, such as deforestation and over grazing, etc. Trace building and tree planting are some of the ways of stopping the erosion. “United Arab Emirates lies within a sub-region of northern dessert belt, characterized by scanty and erratic rainfall, and high levels for temperature, humidity, and sunshine”. Dubai’s weather is generally hot and humid with a high daily average of sun hours. The weather of Dubai is of course influenced by its climate. Climate change and temperature are different factors which cause erosion. Despite this apparently stable climatic picture, the weather does show a remarkable degree of local variability, throwing up thunder storms, fog, gale force winds, sand storm and, of course, rain.

BRIEF

Design a shopping center as public space with addressing different activities.

Design concept: This design is inspired by the profile of the seagull bird, since the mall is located by the sea side. Form: The anatomy of the bird was an inspiration that lead the design approach to one of the key elements of architecture; the ramp. Elements: the building is consisted of four masses which are interconnected in the ground level. Circulation system: Ramps, as a concept, are used for connecting the levels in the interiors and mainly exteriors. Each of the four volumes have three entrance doors, that make access to the interior in ground level from four sides.

EXTERIOR PERSPECTIVE

EXTERIOR PERSPECTIVE

EXTERIOR PERSPECTIVE

Design approach goal: To create an environment that is enjoyable for walking and enjoying the view of the sea from roof level. To create a multi functional type of building that people use it as appropriate. Since Dubai is almost flat land, the roof of the building is meant to be green, so, in this way this building can add sort of landscaping to the city and people can experience walking on the roof of the building. Functions: This mall has multitude facilities available for all range of visitors. It includes an exhibition, theatre, botanical garden, shopping area, cafĂŠs, restaurant, food court and day care center.

Design Ideas: To link the interior and exterior spaces by using ramp. Ramp forms the exterior of the building. There is also a ramp inside that acts as a promenade inside the shopping mall and links the interior space to the roof level. This ramp cuts through the levels and penetrates to the exterior as a portal.

BRIEF

Proposal for a residential design for a disabled couple (auditory disability) and their two

children (5 years old and 7 years old).

The foot print area should be 200 to 300 square meter. Interior should have a lot of natural lighting from the top and from the sides and allow a variety of different and complex view points within the house and

also the outside space, as the disabled couple should be able to have the maximum

control of security over the space and over their children by visual means.

Design Concept: To create maximum visibility, lots of glazing materials are used to create transparency between interior and exterior. There are different levels to create platform effect. The highest level belongs to the master bedroom, where parents have the maximum view to different parts of the house. Two staircases lead to upper level where a slab like an island connects children’s rooms and parents’ room. From this island, there are four steps like a bridge which lead to master bedroom.

Design description: All bedrooms have view to interior and exterior spaces. Children’s rooms, also, have partial visual access through glazing material to each other. One sky light provides appropriate natural light to the interior and the other one mostly as a symbolic element reaped with the same proportion at the entrance space. Series of windows like a ribbon horizontally connect the vertical curtain walls and emphasize on transparency and continuity. Visibility as the main point is considered in design. Therefore, from one corner, even from the yard, all spaces are visible.

Landscape and swimming pool are inspired from the building geometry. Swimming pool, with same geometry of house, is extended in one side to create “L” form to be visible from two sides of house. Color scheme is in light values. Mostly, white, for walls and rugs, and light green for furniture which are inspired from the same green tone of the grass in the landscape. Light colors are considered in this design, since they intensify the light.

Linearity, a metaphor of life

Linearity is the concept to design a mikvah for the existing Chabad in Miami. Linearity of the form is inspired by Life which is a journey from two points: birth (entrance) and Death (Exit). Ramp is used (instead of steps) to create a smooth transition from ground to pool to increase the spiritual and architectural quality of the space. Skylights are used to introduce continuous points of light. THIS

Solid and Void

WYNWOOD, A DESIGN DISTRICT, IN MIAMI

Concept is based on the idea of solid and void to be able to create indoor and outdoor space. Series of stairs play the role of promenade across the facade of the building. This stairs are like chains which are connected the solids and voids, the movement of people on stairs implies the dynamic effect of chain in movement. Due to climate and environmental factors of Miami, the building is like a section which the other part is the city itself which completes the building.
