OPENSQUARE HOUSE

Opensquare House There is a project that making a residence in Sao Paulo. The location is R.Braganga, 161-Pacaembu, Sao Paulo - SP, Brazil. When I search about this place there is a famous place which is Pacaembu stadium. They are proud of their soccer teams and love the soccer. In Pacaembu stadium, people use facilities. The Pacaembu district is designated as residential place and most of the houses are designed modern architecture or baroque house. They are well educated and traditional family who live in Pacaembu district. They usually go to social network club after their job. I think it means they usually like their neighbors and hang out with them. In the social network club, they are usually talking with neighbors, playing sports and drink alcohol. Therefore, anyone can use the club and stadium. In Pacaembu distirct, it is safety place. However, they set the fence and usually have their court yard in the house. I chose an idea for the project that modern architecture and shifting several blocks. The several blocks became each space and I tried to utilize the space. I designed the first idea that is basic shape of rectangle. The Center of the building include core court yard. This idea is from the South Korea’s traditional architecture. The other design is shifting the boxes like Lego. I keep development this idea for final project. I want to design the customer and their friends or family enjoy in this house like an open square. Therefore, most of room size are large and open. The center core courtyard makes open and breeze air inside of the house. The customer is old couple. They are retirement and working on art works for hobby. They have 2 children and their children already married. They are close and sometimes working together. Therefore, they need large size of working space. The Opensquare House has their culture and their lives at the same time which are working space and bar. The spaces are located closely at the second level. It makes to separate living area and working area and they want to take a break or rest in the bar area, when they’re working in the studio.

SCAD SOTONG HALL

SCAD Sotong Hall The idea comes from the movement that jumps on a snowboard. I think that movement is representative SCAD students’ youth, passion, goal and success. It is possible for SCAD students, even in today’s fast-paced society, to manage their time. This building’s main purpose is theater for students. There is a theater in the SCAD museum. However, the theater in the SCAD museum is for lectures. I think that we need for only students’ art. So, this is for students’ performance art and installation art. There is for fashion runaway. I hope that SCAD students are going to communicate in this building. The building is located at Savannah, GA. Savannah's coldest month is January when the average temperature over night is 38.0°F. In July, the warmest month, the average day time temperature rises to 92.3°F. The location is hot weather. Therefore, I chose reflected curtain wall. It makes open space and blocking the sun light. The green area around building makes temperature down and shade. Student can enjoy communication at the shade. The steel wall makes modern architecture because, most of the SCAD buildings are historical building. Therefore, the Sotong hall is representation for the students. I used dark color to contrast between the Sotong hall and SCAD museum. It makes people recognize different building and the purpose of the building. The meaning of Sotong is communication to use Korean word. I want to design the place for unity and cooperative. Therefore, most of plans are dynamic and geometry shape. However, I tried to design easy circulation.

OLEUM

Oleum Kyudo, the way of bow, is a living tradition of meditative archery rooted in old worrier tranditions of Japan. The perfect mastery of the bow was considered an art by the Samurai, an art that knew no other goal than the highest experience of the here and now, of the moment as it is, beyond any strategies of thought and concept. Today, Kyudo is being practiced by thousands of people all over the world for their mental schooling as well as for their physical, mental and spiritual development. The simple elegance of the movements, the beauty of the bow and arrows and the atmosphere of quietness and dignity predominant in the practice of time and place, have a great fascination for those who wish to work upon the path of self-knowledge. Japanese traditional archery comes from some of the mountain. Therefore, I want to make different level each zone. It gives separation. The main purpose of this building is for athletes. And also, the archery arena should be isolated; because, the archery needs calm. I made two main zones that are arena and the gallery. The core courtyard gives us direction to where people go and also, it is a gathering space and open park. Oleum comes from Hangeul which is Korean alphabet. It means the mountain. Many of Korean words come from the Chinese character. However, this is not Chinese character. China, Japan, and Korea are related to culture and archery. Those three countries have many mountains and they have similar with archery life in the past. The mountain gave them lots of things and they were also learned from the mountain. I hope people learn lots of thing from this area. Therefore, I decided to nae it the Oleum.

BANGHYANG CENTER

Banghyang Develpopmental Center When I started this project, I got to think about lots of things for disabilities child. I met a parent who has disabilities child and talked about their lives. After meeting them, there is only one thing into my mind. How can imagine their mind and lives. They were going to find the way of their son’s life. They didn’t want his son to do many things in his life. I design the developmental center as normal s c h o o l . T h e o n l y t h i n g t h a t d i ff e re n t i s composition of the room. Many disabilities children need to learn and study how to live this world. Therefore, some of children need to stay at the school and learn and repeat everything. In this project, the purpose of this building should be for disabilities children however, the teachers are also one of main purpose in this building. The place for teachers is inside of children’s area. There are many small rooms for disabilities child and each room has large size window. Those window frame can block the direct sun light. Most thing I want to design is with the nature. I want to show them the nature any places and they can learn lots of thing from the nature. I want to this building is the place for the disabilities children’s direction. Therefore, building name is Banghyang developmental center. Direction is called “Banghyang” in Korean.

HARMORY TRAIN STATION

Harmony Train Station One of transportations is train and bike. At the beginning of this project, my classmate and I decided which transportation is good for Savannah, GA and the locations in the downtown. I chose one of the locations which is the end of River Street in downtown. The place is less crime and most people come to visit for tours. The River Street is most view site and many local restaurants. The road and historical building’s brick came from Europe. Most of the historical building built by around 1900s. We made bike path and train path above the building level. And my project concept is harmony. The city of Savannah is one of oldest and biggest port in Georgia. There are many historical buildings and modern architecture in there. Therefore, I made this buildings as Old & New style. In Savannah downtown, most of buildings are commercial and office buildings. However, there are many residential buildings close to the parks. In my site, most of buildings are commercial buildings for visitors. The types of commercial buildings are mostly restaurants. For visitors, site is enjoyable and easy to get their food and, they can do sightseeing There is the reason that I choose the building name as the harmony that are building style, harmony with bike and train paths, and nature and modern building. Nowadays, the city of Savannah is well harmony with historical building and modern building. I want people to start in this building and end trip at Savannah.

TOGETHER NURSING HOME

Together Nursing Home Together nursing home is located in Ann Arbor ,Michigan. The nursing home locates near the University of Michigan. This location has beautiful river at the west side. The building is on the top of the hills. Therefore, it has nice views. The type of this building is nursing home and simultaneously can be residence of students. Most of students are volunteers for supporting seniors. However, they are not paying for residence fee. All of students are attending the Michigan University. There are three types of room for seniors. All of rooms has balcony, bathroom, walk-in closet and small kitchen. For students, there are two types of room. Those are different size of room with small bathroom. In this building, there are big dinning room, different types of rooms for therapy and activities. There are four or six assisted rooms that have one gathering space. At the beginning of the project, I thought they need each other as supporters and advisors. Seniors need supporting from students and nurses. Students may need some advices from old people. Lively students can help and support seniors as being together. In Asian culture, they are more concerned about their family. Therefore, when parents decide to go nursing home leaving from their children, people think that they don’t care about their parents. And most of seniors are also living a quiet life for the rest of days in the nursing home. Therefore, I want to get their lives back and break down the stereotype of nursing homes. The concept is the house. I chose ideas of separation, protection and easy circulation from the concept. The idea of separation is that the building has different zones for users and provides individual rooms. This separation protects their privacy. The idea of protection is that hills at the north side and buildings at the south side. It will help to feel being comfortable in building area as your home. Easy circulation in the project makes you know every place like your house. Basically, I chose L-shape in the building and rotated whole building for getting sun light. Each of four or six rooms have gathering spaces that help more feel being comfortable and their own house. Student area is located at north side near parking space for their privacy. For being well-lighted, Senior area is at the south side. The activity rooms connect with students and seniors at second floor. The area of activity rooms can use all user in this building. The location has issues that are deep slope, cold climate, flood zone, and hard to get sun-light. For solving these issues, building should be at the top of the hill and using concrete and metal structurFootings use more wider and deeper for protecting water flood. At the exterior, using wood and concrete are helping more brightness and warmth.
