Diverse Communities, Diverse Collections. Look Inside for Collections on Black History, LGBTQA+, and More!

Dear Librarians, Here at hoopla, one of our core values is that everyone deserves to be heard and seen, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, or any other way a person may identify. Libraries and Librarians have always led the way by serving the diverse needs of their communities, and we are proud to provide a digital media collection that helps you fulfill that mission. Observances like Black History Month in February are great ways to celebrate diversity and elevate voices that have at times been silenced. Our media experts have put together collections that will help patrons of all ages explore and discover, whether for a student homework assignment or checking out and enjoying work by amazing artists and performers. Diversity is not just a sometimes thing—hoopla users can rest assured that they will always see themselves reflected in the media we offer. And, as well as the categories listed above, that means serving a diversity of interests. Whatever topic, format, or genre a patron prefers, hoopla aims to truly offer something for everyone. We’ve put together this Look Book to highlight the diversity of hoopla’s offerings, in all senses of the word. We hope it helps you as you consider programming and outreach for your Library and your community. You can find more materials to promote and share your hoopla collection on our Resource Center: resources.hoopladigital.com. Thank you for everything you do, Jeff and the team at hoopla

New Spotlight Selection

The Girls in the Stilt House by Kelly Mustian Ada promised herself she would never go back to the Trace, to her hard life on the swamp and her harsh father. But now, after running away to Baton Rouge and briefly knowing a different kind of life, she finds herself with nowhere to go but back home. And she knows there will be a price to pay with her father. Matilda, daughter of a sharecropper, is from the other side of the Trace. Doing what she can to protect her family from the whims and demands of some particularly callous locals is an ongoing struggle. She forms a plan to go north, to pack up the secrets she's holding about her life in the South and hang them on the line for all to see in Ohio.
