Largest Library in North America Launches hoopla. The Toronto Public Library (TPL) and its ninetyeight branch locations launched hoopla to the public on April 7, 2014. Already the most visited and with the most circulated volumes in North America, we planned for much attention and fanfare and were rewarded accordingly. hoopla had its best two days ever for TPL’s Monday launch and the following day. In the first five full days, TPL had 5,243 brand new users sign up for hoopla, a stunning number.

There was great pickup for the news of the launch. Coverage ran in the largest city papers, on local television segments, and to larger audiences through radio interviews and stories. The Toronto Star’s piece announcing TPL’s launch helped to get the word out to smaller outlets, such as regional blogs. CBC Toronto ran an in-depth segment during its nightly newscast on launch day, and a local morning talk show team on Breakfast Television Toronto discussed hoopla and library usage the following morning. To top things off, launch news also circulated for French-speaking cardholders on ICI CBC Radio Canada.

Canadian-Based Studios/Networks Sign on to hoopla. We are thrilled to let you know that the CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corp.), Corus Entertainment/ Nelvana, Tricon Films, Phase 4 Films, Fremantle, Syndicado, 9 Story, Cineflix, Octapixx Entertainment, Peace Point Entertainment, BBC Worldwide (Canada), and Kid’s Town Productions have all committed to adding their content to hoopla. Over the coming weeks you will see their content go live as we move it through our on-boarding processes. Some of the content from these studios/networks will only be available to hoopla users in Canada, and some will be available to all hoopla users. Stay tuned for more new content announcements in the next few weeks! library update | 1
