Welcome! We’re so glad you’re here. There is no sugar coating the fact that this catalog comes to you in a tumultuous time filled with uncertainty. What comforts me is the tremendous amount of community support, love, and collaboration that has and will continue to happen during this challenging time. This support is what will get us through spring and summer and, if needed, fall. The support that you as a community provide each other is something I am truly grateful to be a part of. It is what makes Hopkins Public Schools such an amazing school family. You with young children know that the only constant is change. This change takes on many forms from teething, potty training, preschool, or bringing home a new sibling — we rise to the occasion daily! Amongst all this uncertainty, all Hopkins Early Childhood programs strive to bring you a world-class education with quality care through personal connection and fun learning activities either online or in person. Though our classrooms are closed at this moment, ECFE staff are diligently working to maintain our connection with you in new ways. We invite you to Hopkins ECFE, where we can help brighten the path to learning, loving, and laughing. We look forward to sharing time with you and your family as we grow in the classroom together! See you in class! Angela Sandok, Early Childhood Family Education Supervisor

Registration for summer and fall classes begins April 10 at 8:00 a.m. Registration for classes is ongoing until spaces fill. Families are welcome to register at any time if space is available. Please see page 12 for more registration information, or call our office at 952-988-5000.

Hopkins Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) We’re here to support you on your parenting journey and inspire your child’s early learning and social experiences. We have classes for you and your child, newborn to five years old. Families are welcome to enroll in classes at any time, even after the class has begun, if space is available. We look forward to being a resource for learning, connections, information, and support for your family. A typical class meets once a week and includes: • Parent-child activity. Time for you and your child to enjoy a classroom filled with developmentally appropriate play and learning activities. You’ll take home new ideas for things you can do together. • Parent conversations. You’ll meet with other parents and a licensed parent educator to share support, experiences, and information about child development and parenting techniques. • Children’s activity time. While you are in parent conversation (in separating classes), children enjoy play-based learning experiences with licensed early childhood teachers. Children will practice social skills and enjoy music, art, stories, and physical activities. Our experienced ECFE teaching staff is dedicated to parents and children. Teachers hold a degree and state license in Parent Education, Early Childhood Education, or both. Questions about classes or programs? We are happy to help! Please call Harley Hopkins at 952-988-5000, or email Angela Sandok at Angela.Sandok@HopkinsSchools.org. The mission of Early Childhood Family Education is to strengthen families and support the ability of all parents in providing the best possible environment for healthy growth and development of their children. *Note: the word “parent” in this publication refers to adult caregivers responsible for the child.

About Hopkins ECFE

Our classes Many options to fit your family’s needs ECFE classes have a sliding fee scale (see pages 4 and 13) and meet once a week. There are day and evening options, and most classes have sibling care. There are options to fit your child’s age range. We also have parent-only workshops and special topics classes, too. Our classes fall into three categories: non-separating, gradual separating, or separating. See the descriptions below. To determine class fees, see the fee scale on page 4 (for Parent/Infant classes) and page 13 (for all other classes). If you have questions, please call Sonya Everhart at 952-988-5002. At Hopkins, families are always welcome! Registration remains open for classes that have already started (if space is available). Contact us for a prorated fee if you’d like to join a class that has already begun. Non-separating classes: You and your child stay together in the classroom for the entire duration of the class, engaging with them in enriching learning and play activities. A licensed parent educator will lead parent conversations on important topics such as child growth and development, transitioning to parenthood, and how children learn and play. Your child has a chance to play during this supportive group discussion. Gradual-separating classes: In the beginning of gradual-separating classes, you and your child explore activities together for about 30 minutes. Parents will move to a separate room gradually as the class progresses. Separate parent meetings begin with short meeting times and are gradually lengthened. Separating classes: You and your child explore engaging activities together for about 30 minutes. Then, parents meet in a separate classroom with a licensed parent educator for conversations around child development and parenting. Meanwhile, your child will participate in age-appropriate activities with a licensed early childhood teacher and teaching assistant. Children are provided play-based early learning experiences which encourage social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development setting the foundation for future learning experiences in preschool and beyond. Sibling care is available, if needed, for many classes. Siblings from six months through kindergarten are eligible. Babies who are not yet crawling are welcome to come to class with parents. Sibling care cost is half of the class fee. Immunization information. For ECFE classes 6 weeks or more in length, updated immunization records for your child are due before you and your child participate in the ECFE class. In order to attend ECFE classes, parents must show that they’re in compliance with Minnesota School Immunization Law requirements. Please note: ECFE classes or events shorter than 6 weeks do not require immunization information. See page 13 for more details about immunizations. Parents/guardians may choose to decline immunizations for their children by filing a legal exemption with the school. Copies of the Immunization Record, with directions for filing an exemption, are available in the office at Harley Hopkins Family Center, 125 Monroe Ave. S, Hopkins, MN. No class dates — ECFE classes will not be in session the following dates: Oct. 14-16: Education Minnesota Convention Nov. 3: Professional Development day and Election Day Nov. 25-27: Thanksgiving Break Dec. 21-Jan. 1: Winter Break

Fee Information

About class fee scales This is a suggested fee scale; however we value your participation and so we invite you to choose any amount that you are comfortable with — no one is turned away for inability to pay. Fees are determined by locating your gross yearly family income on the scale, then locating the schedule of the class. Your suggested fee is at the intersection on the chart. The sibling care fee is half the amount paid for the class, per child. Please call 952-988-5000 to discuss a fee option that would be a better fit for your family. There is no better investment than your child!
