Headteacher: David Baldwin 9th May, 2018 Dear Parents We are delighted to share our DSIB Inspection Report 2017-2018 with you. Please see the full report below. When the inspectors visited us last October, they recognized the many improvements that have been embedded into the school’s everyday practice, resulting in 10 key performance indicators being raised and achieving ‘Outstanding’ in 22 of the indicators too. This is a fantastic achievement for the whole Horizon community. In particular, the inspectors applauded: You, the parents, and our school governors for playing an integral part in the success of the school The children’s love of learning and their respect for themselves and others The teachers care, guidance and support for the children in their care was recognized as being excellent The excellent quality of teaching shown in our specialist areas of art, music, computing and PE The effective opportunities for enterprise, creativity and innovation within the curriculum The highly effective leadership team and Headteacher who have a coherent and inspirational vision for the school, as a beacon of educational excellence Students achievements in English and maths is now recognized as being excellent. Over the last 12 months, we have been turning our attention to raising student attainment in Arabic. We have already seen significant improvements in progress rates through a creative and enriched Arabic curriculum. For example, the introduction of Arabic cooking classes and interactive gamification. Furthermore, our excellent assessment of the English curriculum has been mirrored in the areas of maths, science and Arabic. We are now seeing a more consistent approach to self and peer assessment across all subjects through the use of SeeSaw. The children are showing high levels of engagement with this learning platform, as it enables them to leave audio notes, photos and videos of their learning. In my final term as Headteacher at Horizon, this inspection report serves as another reminder as to what a special place Horizon is and the wonderful journey we have been on together to get to where we are today. I know the school is in a fantastic place, with unparalled support from the whole community, and will continue to go from strength to strength.
