BRETTON WOODS 2006 Black 177 cm KWPN The big framed Bretton Woods inspires with a lot of expression, rideability and an outstanding quality of basic gaits. He won the bronze medal at the 2011 World Championship for five-year old dressage horses. One year before, he won superior the VSN-Trophy in the Netherlands, where he achieved a score of 10.0 for his rideability and, prior to this, he placed first in the 50-day test of KWPN. His former rider Emmelie Scholtens said about him: “The best horse I have ever ridden”. Bretton Woods’ sire Johnson, the 2005 KWPN Champion Stallion and finalist of the 2007 WC for young dressage horses, is himself highly successful in the international dressage sport with Hans Peter Minderhoud. Bretton Woods’ dam, Annabel, produced, when bred to Jazz, the licensed stallion Chagall and belongs for years to the highest ranked mares in the KWPN breeding. By the significant black stallion De Niro, who is placed first in the WBFSH ranking of dressage sires, and from a mare by the esteemed Romancier, who is also dam’s sire of Fürst Romancier, the maternal genetics are strongly secured. Bretton Woods’ offspring are brilliant in type and, as expected, strongly moving. In 2012, he presented for the first time a higher number of foals in Germany, who nearly all have been awarded a premium and were sold for top prices at auctions. De Niro was himself a Grand Prix dressage horse, and he has been a prolific sire of dressage horses, with his progeny distinguishing themselves by being sweet to ride, and almost invariably, nicer types than their sire. De Niro is the sire of German super stars, producing wonderful Young Horses, like World SixYear old champion, Devereau, and stunning Grand Prix horses. He was the sire of HALF the German Olympic team, with Annabel Balkenhol’s Dablino (recently the winner of the Grand Prix and Special at the Hamburg Derby) and young Kristina Sprehe’s Olympic star, Desperados. De Niro is currently ranked the best dressage horse in the World on the offical WBFSH rankings... and that is no surprise.

DJANGO OF CACHAREL (IMP) 2001 Black Friesian Registered KFPS 16.2hh Django has become a well recognised fixture on the Grand Prix stage, getting better with every outing; but this year has also been an exciting year as we see some of his progeny finally making their debut. Our purebred gelding Duvel TK was awarded the coveted Star predicate by the KFPS inspectors and went on to be crowned NSW Keuring Champion, his partbred son Chaijango showed at his first dressage competition how Django’s temperament shines through and his Friesian Warmblood daughter Delta HRM went out and won her Novice test at her very first competition. DON FREDERICO 1997 Black 171 cm (17 hh) Don Frederico was winner at his performance test where he showed remarkable riding horse features, displaying outstanding uphill gaits, and gaining the amazing score of 151.67. Combined with his just as excellently marked mental qualities, Don Frederico stood out as a young stallion with a very great ability and trainability for dressage. Don Frederico had successes up to Prix St. Georges. He received the Grande-Prize, marking his tremendous influence on the Hanoverian breed as a comparatively young stallion. His 2002 premiere as a sire resulted in a number of foals from his first crop being admitted to the Hanoverian foal auction. His debut at approvals came in 2004, with seven of his sons approved without exception. One of these, Don Marco was vice-champion and most highly remunerated lot at the price of Euro 440,000 His progeny display lots of presence, groundcovering movements and fantastic riding horse qualities. His progeny Diva Royal and Don Johnson have both been remarkably successful in competition. DONNERBLITZ (IMP) 2001 Mahogany Bay Oldenburg 16.3hh Donnerblitz is now a proven performer at Grand Prix level. In just his third ever start at this level he achieved just under 66% from one of the judges! Donnerblitz will be heading to the Australian Nationals to compete in the Grand Prix at the end of this year. He is a multi-champion dressage performer, virtually unbeaten in SA dressage, a winner at the Victorian Championships and also placed highly when he last attended the Australian Nationals and Sydney CDI. He already has two of his progeny listed on the Australian National Futures Dressage squad, Danson Destiny, and Danson Don Prestige. At the latest Squad clinic, Ton De Ridder described Danson Don Prestige as ‘a very very good horse’. He is by the legendary Donnerhall. At the last Olympics Games the German team was dominated by the Donnerhall bred horses. Through his dam line, Landadel, comes the ability to jump. Landadel sired World Cup competitors in both showjumping and dressage. Donnerblitz is not so highly promoted, but in little old Adelaide we have a deadly breeding weapon in Donnerblitz! STOP PRESS:Annapurna, by Donnerblitz has just won the 2** at SIEC at her first attempt at this level. Owner John Pittard reports, “Stuart Tinney said this is the most exciting young horse he has had in his 37 years, she can do everything, she is like riding with a piece of cotton cross country, just point her to the jump and she does the rest.”

DORNKAART (IMP) 2006 Bay Registered Hanoverian, AWHA & ACE 16.2hh Dornkaart is an imported Hanoverian stallion purchased in Verden, Germany, in 2006, commencing his career in 2010. He has proven to be incredibly trainable and talented. His movement is very forward, uphill and with lovely cadence. To date Dornkaart has proven he will be a very competitive stallion winning or placing at most of the competitions he has been to, proving his athletic talent time and time again, usually with scores in the percentages of 70 and above. Teaming up with Melissa Van Den Berge in 2011 they have been successful at both Qld State, NSW State and National competitions and are already moving to compete at Advanced level. Dornkaart and Melissa’s latest achievement was at the Brisbane CDI where they won the Advanced with a score of 68.146%. With the NZL judge giving them a 70.732 .This was a testament to his wonderful temperament as he had a wardrobe malfunction at the Qld Dressage Festival the previous Saturday which frightened him. He still managed to come back out in the same arena and do his best for his partner Melissa Van Den Berge. They finished last year with Melissa and Dornkaart selected on the National Futures Squad again for 2013.

FIDERSTERN

2007 Black/Brown Elite Australian Warmblood 174cms Fiderstern is our sensational Australian bred stallion who is tall, leggy and athletic with three exceptional basic gaits. Fiderstern was Elite classified early in 2011 and made his competition debut early in 2012, finishing in the Top 10 at DJWTS. The combination of the ‘F’ Line, Fidertanz and Capone has produced a very trainable, willing and intelligent young stallion. The sire line ancestors have had incredible success in competition and breeding. Fidertanz was Champion of his Licensing and has produced many Licensed Sons. The grandsire, Fidermark’s success includes Bundeschampion, Performance Test Winner, Reserve Champion at his Licensing and many wins at Prix St George before his untimely death. Fiderstern’s dam, Charisma was a Record Priced Auction Horse in 2005 and has been an exceptional broodmare for us, consistently producing horses of international quality. Fiderstern is in training with German Bereiter, Peter Fischer, with the goal being a correctly trained dressage horse with a long career at high level dressage. Fiderstern’s progeny can only be described as sensational. He has two foal crops on the ground, who are very much like their sire, being incredible movers with excellent temperaments and conformation. Australian Grand Prix rider, Maree Tomkinson has already secured herself a super Fiderstern colt from his first foal crop.

Numerous foals from the first crop were sold for top prices at foal auctions in Vechta and Verden. FÜRST NYMPHENBURG 2005 Dark Chestnut 169cms He is the first son of Florencio I in the State Stud stables at Celle. Fürst Nymphenburg is a beautiful type. He has a powerful, ground covering, uphill going canter and he combines his trot, powerful from behind, with the swinging back and lots of freedom of the shoulders. Father Florencio was the World Champion of 2004 and 2005 for young dressage horses. Due to his successes in sports and the high quality of the foals from his first crop, the Oldenburg Verband awarded Florencio the 1a Main Premium in 2004. The dam sire, De Niro is the Hanoverian stallion of the Year 2008. Fürst Nymphenburg presented his first foal crop in 2009 - every foal had presence, elegance and an active hindquarter. This stallion obviously left his mark on his progeny and is the perfect match for different bloodlines…L, W, B, or D bloodlines. The quality of the Fürst Nymphenburg foals at the first inspection of progeny in Adelheidsdorf was sensational. They were true to type, long-legged, and big movers. “Athletic, always presents himself perfectly, a beautiful face, four correct legs and an energetic trot”, was Manfred Schafer’s comment on a chestnut colt by Fürst Nymphenburg.

HIGGINS (IMP) 2001 Black Hanoverian 16.1hh Higgins is sired by the best Thoroughbred stallion in sport horse breeding during the last three decades: Heraldik xx. Heraldik xx is one of those rare stallions who has had offspring compete at the highest levels in all three disciplines. At the WEG in 2010 Heraldik had three offspring in the eventing, and one each showjumping and dressage. The countless numbers of internationally successful offspring has brought Heraldik xx to the top of the WBFSH - Sires rankings for event horses for the past 4 years. Higgins dam line is For Pleasure, Grundstein and Arsenik, all producers of international competition horses. Higgins has been popular in both eventing and showjumping breeding programs. In eventing breeding he has been used on thoroughbred mares and on mares with a high percentage of thoroughbred blood to increase jumping scope and power and to improve the canter. In our showjumping breeding program he has been used on mares that would benefit from an infusion of “blood and refinement” that will not weaken the jump and canter. His progeny exhibit the quality, athleticism and temperament, characteristic of Higgins himself. At this point in time, injury has taken him away from a promising competition career, but his progeny will soon be seen ridden by the growing list of elite riders who have chosen to breed to Higgins.

LORD LOXLEY 1999 169cm Brown Hanoverian Lord Loxley - five year old Dressage Horse Bundeschampion, and five year old reserve champion Young Dressage Horse in 2004. Commenting on his 9.5 score, Christoph Hess remarked: “This was top class. He’s a world class horse, he has a spectacular trot with a very good hind leg. He keeps the nose nicely in front and is right on the vertical. His walk is through the back, his canter is excellent, uphill and forward.” Lord Loxley’s sire, Lord Sinclair was one of the first ‘super stars of the Bundeschampionate’ and he went on to produce over 20 licensed sons. On the dam sire, we find the great Weltmeyer - Weltmeyer is proving to be one of the best brood mare sires of all time. Lord Loxley now has 10 approved sons and a mare by him won the Bundeschampionat in 2007, with one of his sons getting 3rd place. Darco was without doubt one of the modern jumping greats, and many times headed the world rankings, but let’s face it, he wasn’t the prettiest of horses. There are currently in excess of 50 Parco offspring in the FEI international lists. His strike rate is over 15%. In France, among the first Parco’s offspring to be tested in showjumping and eventing : 75% are indexed, which proves his improving abilities. RENEGADE Z 1999 Bay 169cm Approved Oldenburg & AWHA Bred at Zangersheide Stud in Belgium, Renegade Z first made his name in Germany as a young horse. A sensation at the 2002 Oldenburg licensing, he went on the top score in Jumping at the 30 day test in Neustadt Dosse. He won numerous A and L level classes and qualified for the Bundeschampionat as a 5yo, jumping 1.30m. He went on to stand at the prestigious Brookhouse Stud in Germany, where he produced the likes of Ruswil, a successful Young Horse now competing in World Cup showjumping classes in Europe. As you would expect of a stallion with such top class performances and progeny, Renegade Z also has a pedigree that reads like a who’s-who of performance horse bloodlines. For instance, his sire, Ramiro Z, is the sire of legendary showjumper Ratina Z, and also the grandsire of Loretta, dam of dressage greats Sandro Hit, Diamond Hit and Royal Hit. Renegade Z’s damsire, Quidam de Revel, was an Olympic bronze medallist as well as pre-eminent jumping sire, and his grand-dam Calanda Z is a full sister to top stallions Calando I-V. We are immensely fortunate to have a stallion of Renegade Z’s quality standing in Australia, passing his exceptional temperament, trainability and talent on to the next generation of superstars.

RIVERSIDE (IMP) Chestnut 16.3hh Hanoverian If Riverside had been able to keep his mouth shut, he would have never been allowed out of Germany! As a youngster, he was a superstar, with a performance test that put him in the very elite category – a better result than Alabaster, Brentano II, Londonderry, Lord Sinclair and Wolkentanz, to name but a few. In 2006, he was a finalist at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses at Verden, and he qualified for the Bundeschampionate with the top score of 9! But when he got to the shows, he just couldn’t stay silent, and in the tough world of German competition, that was a no no – and so Germany’s loss became Australia’s gain. Look at his pedigree – it is all class. He connects two of the most influential modern lines, Rubinstein and Donnerhall, and he has that all important mother-line that real breeders look for: his dam, st pr st Desiree is a full sister to Donnerschlag; his grand-dam, Pirola is a full sister to the Pik Bube brothers, and was one of the foundation mares of the famed Pape Stud. Riverside has produced premium foals and top quality riding horses in Germany for example, his son Rodrigo (Riverside/Hohenstein/Davignon I) who sold at the Elite Auction in Verden in 2007 for a price of 200 000 €. In Australia his youngsters are just starting to prove their worth and the mare owners who used him, love them.

Salzburg passed his AWHA Colt Selection last month with flying colours and was praised for his type, his well-behaved demeanor and performance. His foals so far have been consistent and uniform to a wide selection of mares. Our own two fillies scored highly at their assessments; one gaining a First Premium and the other just .05% off. SANDRELS (IMP) 2001 Black Oldenburg Registered AWHA, ACE & Approved Oldenburg 17.2hh Sandrels is an elegant type, with amazing disposition and great trainability. This teamed with his athletic, uphill paces and stunning good looks make for a great Sire. Again this year with Lizzie Wilson-Fellows, the handsome black has proven his ability to perform consistently in the competition circuit and progress through the levels. He has gone from competing successfully at Medium level to achieving scores of 68.68% in Prix St George and with his second start at Inter 1, 65.46%, all within the last 18 months. He is also showing great talent for Piaffe & Passage. To have a stallion that is capable of this, and for my 12yr old daughter to be able to have a ride and handle him at home, makes him truly a pleasure to have as a much loved part of our family. Already he has proven himself as a sire with his foals achieving assessment scores of higher than 75%. His foals are leggy, elegant types with super movement. They are friendly, curious and sensible with Sandrels’ lovely nature and amazing good looks. We are looking forward to seeing the first of his young stock under saddle at DWTS in 2014.

SCOLARI Hanoverian Stallion Bay 17.½ hh Scolari is an imposing, tall, leggy stallion with ground covering trot and canter, with a very secure walk. His pedigree is pure dressage: Sandro Hit-De Niro- Weltmeyer-Grenadier. Scolari’s dam line is one of the most successful lines in the Hanoverian horse breeding. His excellent progeny show up in the official breeding values, which sees him in the top 1% of the German dressage sires. His extraordinary fertility rate has made him one of the most favorite stallions for our breeders. Scolari’s daughter, Scara Boa, was one of the stars at the 2013 World Young Horse Championships at Verden. The judges awarded her 9.5 for the trot, 9.7 for the walk, 9.0 for the canter, 10 for rideability, 9.8 for general impression for a total of 9.60. “She is the horse we’d most like to take home,” Sandy Phillips of Great Britain said on behalf of the judges. “Her inner peace is very apparent.” The trot she described as “very expressive with cadence and good bending.” The walk was active, covering ground and moving well while the canter was very correct with good balance and self-carriage. The submission, she said, “made everything today look really nice and easy.” 10! Sound like the sort of horse you would like to breed?

STACCATO 1992 AWHA 16.3hh At Sandhills we continue to pursue the goal of breeding the very best event horses for Australia’s future Olympians. Staccato was ranked the no 1 eventing stallion in the world whilst he was competing, and is the sire of the current no1 ranked event horse in the world (WBFSH World rankings) Sandhills Brillaire. Staccato has sired consecutive Adelaide 4 star winners: in 2011 – Panamera, in 2012 - Sandhills Brillaire. At Sandhills, we truly believe it is possible to breed event horses. History shows this to be true, Welton horses from Great Britain, the Irish horse has been and still is extremely successful. The latest is the German Olympic success story in eventing that has been based around the stallion Heraldik. The old adage that it’s too difficult to breed eventers just simply doesn’t add up.

1998 Pinto Warmblood 16.2hh Photo by Steven Mowbray
He is back on the World Cup circuit after injury forced him off the scene for almost two years. His progeny have been flying the flag in all disciplines in the meantime, but it is great to see their dad back out there doing what he loves best. Visage ticks all the boxes: he’s that great combination of careful and brave; he has an excellent temperament and knock-out looks; his progeny are ample testimony that his best characteristics get passed on. The list of successful offspring just keeps growing: Vertigo on the Young Rider Development Squad in Victoria with Lily Ivancic; full brother Vigil, owned by Gemma Kennedy, clearing 1.75 in an entertainment bareback class at SIEC with Ben Blay, Vegas in Europe with Julia ready to move up to 1.50 classes, Volcanic with Kirstie Ansell and Vienna with the Dingwalls moving steadily towards Grand Prix, Verdi with Tallara Barwick and Visual Laughter with Rob Palm taking the eventing world by storm. The list goes on, and we have several more exciting youngsters in training now with Dave Cameron and Brooke Campbell. Visage’s early competitive successes include: Champion of Champions at DJWTS as a 5-year-old, Champion Young Event Horse at Sydney Royal the following year, wins and places all over the country to World Cup level, and a successful 18-month stint competing on the international circuit in Europe. VOICE 2002 168cm Black KWPN Oldenburg The beautiful black stallion Voice has recently been purchased by Austrian billionaire, Gaston Glock as Edward Gal’s new star in international dressage sport. Voice is a combination of the best Dutch and German breeding dressage lines. His sire De Niro is the most successful son of Donnerhall. Voice’s dam line is outstanding: grandam Gelbria is dam to the licensed stallion OO Seven who at present is doing extremely well in Australia, and dam to Kadans, who is at Intermediaire II level. Great-grandam Ilbria is grandam to the international dressage horse Celiton (Fiona Bigwood) and dam to the world renowned dressage horse Olympic Barbria (Imke Schellekens) and Ezabria, who, in 1989, became champion of the three-year-old mares at the UTV. Edward Gal and Voice made their international debut at small tour level at the CDI Zwolle in January 2011 and the pair went on to compete at the 2011 CDIO Aachen but then the horse then disappeared from the scene. Voice had been severely injured and the recovery took almost two years, but in May 2013 they made their come back at the CDI Roosendaal and won the Grand Prix and Kur to Music. One week later the duo were also stars at the 2013 CDI Arnhem.

WELTMEYER 1984 Chestnut 166cms Weltmeyer was winner of the stallion testing at Adelheidsdorf 1987. He was Champion of the 3 y.o. riding horses at the national championship at Vechta in 1987 and champion of the DLG 1989 in Frankfurt. Also in 1989 he was Stallion Conformation class Champion in Hanover. Weltmeyer showed cadenced movements and beautiful suspension and elevation. On his sire’s side is World Cup by Woermann, on his dam’s side is Absatz. Offspring of Woermann fetch very high prices, and Absatz is a producer of leading sires. World Cup I was already an outstanding sire: performance test winner, double DLG reserve champion stallion, sire of top stallions and a DLG champion mare. For years now, Weltmeyer has been leading in the FN breeding value rating for dressage. His progeny are nevertheless also above average in showjumping. He improves in trot, canter, and rideability. He has 86 licensed sons, 437 state premium mares, 1278 main stud book mares, 377 auction horses, and the total winning sum of progeny is €2,413,316.00. WORLDWIDE PB Chestnut Stallion 5yo 16.2hh Born 7/2/08 Worldwide PB is an outstanding stallion, a true pleasure to own and ride. Best known for his 2012 Paralympic Gold Medal, he made dreams come true for Joann Formosa. It is so rare to find a stallion with such a relaxed, trainable temperament, yet paces full of power, cadence, elasticity and elegance. He is impressive to watch and a gentleman to handle. Worldwide PB is highly fertile, and his progeny are often crowned with the same trainability and temperament. He is imported from Germany and his bloodlines are impeccable. His sire, Weltbürger was one of the best sons of Weltmeyer, and a winner at his performance test. His dam is by the great Brentano II, bringing a willingness to work, strength as well as good looks into the equation. On his dam line we find the blood of the influential Thoroughbred, Praefectus and the great Garibaldi II. Worldwide PB is set for the World Equestrian Games next year.
