Zilco Harness - Leading the Field The conception of Zilco harness came about from the idea of replacing leather with synthetic strapping. This was in Australia in the early 1960's. Zilco International has long since diversified into a widely based equestrian company, yet it has always remained true to its ideology and continues to innovate in the area of synthetic saddlery. The original plastic coated webbings have developed into more complex and sophisticated materials including mouldings and synthetic leathers. Zilco takes considerable pride in being a pioneer of modern technology for the benefit of horse and rider. Design skills and workmanship are applied with care and commitment to the very highest of standards.

Measuring for the Best Harness Saddle Size Firstly you should measure the girth circumference of your horse. You can then use the following guide to determine the correct saddle and girth combination that will give you an optimum fit. All our saddles are made to the following size specifications:-

EXAMPLE: Pony with a girth circumference of 162cm. Pony saddle middle holes (120cm) plus length of pony girth 40cm = 162cm In this instance, a pony sized saddle with pony sized girth will give the perfect fit with plenty of adjustment if it gains or loses weight. EXAMPLE: Horse with a girth circumference of 188cm. Full Size saddle shortest fitting (115cm) plus length of Full Size girth (61cm) = 176cm Full Size saddle middle holes (135cm) plus length of Full Size girth (61cm) = 196cm Full Size saddle longest fitting (155cm) plus length of Full Size girth (61cm) = 216cm In this instance, a full size saddle and girth would be OK, as the horse's girth circumference measurement falls comfortably within the adjustment range. If the measurements fall outside this range, then sometimes a different sized girth can provide the right solution.

Suitable for • Club level marathons. • Pleasure • Beginners Materials All strapping is made from stitched, double layer woven poly-web. Traces and backbands are made from four layers for added safety and sturdiness, with reinforcement around the holes. Bearing surfaces are lined with textured anti-gall material that has a padded foam core for extra comfort. Reins have rubber weave hand parts for good all-weather handling

Options & Extras Tedex is designed as an entry-level harness and is supplied from our factory pre-assembled. For this reason, non-standard configuration is not possible. All parts however, may be purchased separately as listed opposite. Maintenance Wipe clean, hose down, or tub wash in warm soapy water. Hang to dry. Tedex may also be cleaned in the washing machine on a gentle (wool) cycle.

BRIDLE - This bridle has a padded headpiece, designed to reduce poll pressure. It features an independent noseband that adjusts from the cheeks on each side, to reduce the number of straps over the poll. Noseband Hanger Straps

Simply and easily convert a regular cavesson style noseband into a hanoverian style noseband with this conversion kit. Simply fold the converter over the cavesson and thread the flash strap through the slots as pictured above.

These straps suspend the noseband behind the bridle cheek. They attach inside the cheek/blinker assembly with height adjustment via the cheek buckle. The noseband slides through the loops at the bottom.

Zilco offers 3 different types of rein material for ZGB, Elite & Classic harness. Z=Grip is supplied as standard.

Z-GRIP: reins are made from a matt brown suede finish material that has a similar weight and appearance to leather. The hand section has sewn stops at intervals along the rein to prevent it from being pulled through the fingers. Z-grip gives a very consistent feel in both wet and dry conditions. It cannot stretch and can be used in place of leather reins. Hand grips are 22mm wide.

S-GRIP: reins are constructed from hard wearing ZILCO material for the front section and billets. The carefully constructed weave in the “Supergrip” hand section incorporates a rubberized thread to give good grip in all weather conditions. The weight and feel of the reins is designed for optimum comfort in the driver’s hand. Hard wearing and very strong. Hand grips are 22mm wide

Rein Accessories Rein Coupler Complete with finger loop, the coupler joins the ends of all Zilco reins. The ability to remove the coupler means that it is much easier to fit rein joiners or clamps if required. 434601 434603

Elastic Rein Retainer A fantastic safety product that is a simple way of ensuring a dropped rein does not fall outside the carriage. The end of the retainer is looped around the framework of the carriage and then buckled to the rein end. This means it can easily be retrieved to regain control and avoid an accident. The retainer should be attached to the vehicle where it is out of the way of the driver and passenger alighting or dismounting the carriage. “mk3” EmPATHY CONTOuR BREASTPLATE Research & Development /Design features The unique, improved “Mk3” Empathy breastplate is a careful blend of ancient and proven harness systems, with new lightweight materials that combine strength, with low maintenance and maximum comfort. Research into the ideal breastplate shape has been meticulously researched right back to the days of the charioteers of ancient Greece. Study of load bearing areas and the horse’s skeletal and muscular anatomy have all been taken into consideration. The result is a breastplate that combines the load bearing and efficiency of a full breastplate, but with lightness and a more versatile and adjustable fitting. The “Mk3” Empathy works with the horse’s conformation instead of against it, by allowing greater freedom of movement through the shoulder area, enabling the horse to pull a load with minimal restriction to limb movement or pressure on the shoulder joint. The trace buckle now features a pivoting ring, which allows a more comfortable fit across the shoulder, regardless of the line of draft.

FITTING INSTRuCTIONS It is important to pay attention to correct fitting. This is not a collar (there is a tendency to fit it too low where a collar would usually lie). Aim to allow the breastplate to sit so that it lies flat against the horse's chest (Angle fit) and at the correct height to leave the windpipe free, and the points of the shoulder free (Height fit). 1. Height fit- first look at the height at which your breastplate should fit. The bony shoulder joint should be clear of the breastplate, and positioned just below the upward sweep of the breastplate each side. The windpipe should be free of the breastplate, so that the windpipe is not restricted in any way. Once you have established the correct height, you can look at the angle fit. 2. Angle fit- the breastplate should lie flat against the horse, so that neither the top edge or the bottom edge dig in. There are 3 positions for the wither straps. The buckle pieces each side are removable so that you can select what works best for your horse. You may use the front two positions, or the back two positions, or one front and one back position. You can also use different holes on the wither strap. Do not think that you have to use the same holes. You may need to have the front strap on a lower hole than the back one. All these options are there to be used, and help to custom fit the breastplate to suit the conformation of your particular horse. For example, a horse with a broad chest and low set neck (Fjord, Exmoor, Shetland etc) may need the breastplate to be tipped at a greater angle than a horse with a very upright shoulder or high set neck (Hackney/Gelderlander etc)

3. Martingale- the martingale is padded, because it needs to lie a little more snugly than a normal false martingale. It helps to keep the breastplate in the optimum position, flat against the horse. Once you have fitted the breastplate as above, there is a little more work to do! The first few times you use the breastplate, watch carefully to see if your adjustments are working. Is the breastplate staying flat against the horse when he is in draft? Get someone on the ground to walk alongside and watch. It is common to make a few more adjustments until you are satisfied that the breastplate is positioned correctly. Also be aware that you need to work the horse in his new breastplate regularly before going off to do a tough marathon. The bearing area is slightly different to a straight breastplate and you need to allow the horse time to get used to this, like you would if you had a new pair of walking shoes. Can you see that shoulder joint working and flexing? If you can’t see it, the breastplate is too low. Every horse is a slightly different shape, so if you use the breastplate on more than one animal, you may need to re-adjust each time. You will see that the Empathy breastplate is not as long as an ordinary breastplate This is because it does not need to be! Pressure tests prove that the only part of the collar that really takes heavy pressure against the horse are the front and shoulder area, in the same way that a full neck breastplate does.

Classic Sliding Backband Saddle Designed for use with two wheeled vehicles or for wheeled vehicles that have rigid fixed shafts. The unique design of the Zilco saddle tree and use of special terrets, allows the backband to slide freely. The design of these tugs ensure that they remain securely in place when in use, yet they are quick and easy to remove. Perfect for closed end shafts.
