Buyers’ Guide 2015 Welcome to the 2015 Buyers’ Guide

What’s New 2015 sees the launch of our Crew Collection comprising a smart selection of polos, shirts, shorts and trousers in men’s and women’s styles. Gill branding is minimal and colours are co-ordinated so the range works as uniform aboard a yacht, in the corporate environment and also as casual wear. New Inshore colourways complement the uniform concept with neutral colours available in matching men’s and women’s styles across the Inshore Lite, Inshore Sport and the new Crew Lite. The Dinghy range has had a significant update with new styles and colour options including two new buoyancy aids, ideal for teams and sailing centres. The new i2 Base Layer has been redesigned to improve fit and comfort and is made using our tried and tested bamboo activated carbon technology. The Thermogrid Mid Layer range has been expanded to include a new jacket and leggings, which offer highly effective lightweight insulation. There are also new colours and styles of fleece which provide further layering options. The new breathable boots are the result of an extensive development program and offer excellent technical features and distinct styling. We’re also introducing a women’s fit Baltimore Deck Shoe and new material and colour options in the men’s shoes. Socks make a welcome return with three new styles from Trainer Socks to Boot Socks. Using a combination of Coolmax® and Merino wool fibres, they are designed to keep feet dry and comfortable. Finally, the marine tools have been updated with great new features and we’re delighted to introduce a newcomer to our watch range, the Regatta Race Timer. DINGHY/SPORTSBOAT

TPM Thermal Protection Material is a high density neoprene that protects the upper torso against the cooling effects of the wind and water. The denser face of the fabric is solid and will reflect wind and water. There are two different types of TPM on the suits. One is the C-mesh which is on the front and back chest — this is a thicker neoprene with a raised loop back — for comfort and warmth. This is strategically placed on the chest for maximum warmth and reduced wind-chill. On the shoulder areas we have added gravel skin TPM. This is a slighter thinner neoprene than the C-mesh and stretchier for the required movement. Gravel skin is also more durable than conventional neoprene and so will withstand harness abrasion.

Glare-free vision

Polarized lenses block the glare produced by light reflecting off the water or bright deck surfaces. This reflected light creates a distracting haze which can be a real issue when you’re looking for marker buoys or checking sail trim. Polarizing lenses are made up of a number of functional elements ultra-carefully bonded together to achieve a high-performance optical product. The main element of the sandwich lens construction is the polarizing light filter in the centre. Laminated to both sides of the filter are UV light absorbers. Optically-corrected, shatter-resistant cushion elements are laminated to both sides of the UV absorbers, followed by a unique scratchproof coating applied to the outer surfaces.

Natural colours

Filter category 3 lenses allowing 8-18% light transmission and are useful in bright sunlight, driving and general purpose wear.

100% UV400

UV light absorbers, which block 100% of harmful UVA, UVB, and UVC radiation.

A quality optical lens is used to prevent vision distortion as cheaper lenses bend and misdirect light so that sizes, shapes and even distances can become distorted – leading to eye strain as you’re forced to compensate. Our ‘optically perfect’ lenses are the result of a unique manufacturing process that fine-tunes the lens for clearer, truer vision. As a result, they comply with European Class 1 Optics Standards.

Clear contrast

For everyday use in sunny conditions we’d recommend a Dark Smoke colour as they block more bright light and don’t distort colours. The other lens colour offered within the range is Copper which is great for everyday use but has the added benefit of filtering blue light and therefore enhancing reds and greens – useful for sighting buoys against water and bright blue skies.

Floatable

Designed for life on the water, all Gill sunglasses float. To achieve this our frames are constructed from lightweight materials with closed cell floatation pods. The Edge and Speed styles contain sealed air-chambers within the frame itself. Our new Reflex style uses the latest in floatation Technology: an advanced low density polymer with natural buoyancy.

Hydrophobic

Hydrophobic outer coating sheds water and reduces salt residue for clear vision.

Oleophobic

Oleophobic technology applied to the inside face repels fingerprints, sun lotion and skin oils. This is the same technology found on touch-screen devices to reduce finger marks.
