The awards are judged by an independent panel in both ALCI Northern and Southern regions, with a combined panel deciding on an overall, all-Ireland winner of the much coveted Bog Oak Trophy. The judges for the Southern region in 2013 were Gary Graham (Bloom Manager, DME Amenity Horticulture Board Bia) and Dr Christy Boylan (Landscape Consultant and Vice President of IFPRA). Judging takes place in August each year and the judges travel the country to inspect each entry. The 2013 ALCI Awards had over 80 entries in 10 categories.
