Chile

The Republic of Chile is located in South America, but spans throughout three continents: Continental Chile (South America), Insular Chile (with islands in South America and Oceania) and Antarctic Chile (in Antarctica). Its continental territory borders to the east with Argentina, with Bolivia in the northeastern region and with Peru on the north. The Pacific Ocean bathes Chile´s eastern shores, which are 2653 miles long. The country is divided in 15 regions, and Santiago is its capital city and main economic and political center. With 2,670 miles from north to south and spanning longitudinally throughout a large part of the South American continent, Chile´s climate and geography vary greatly, marked by high peaks, fertile valleys and plateaus. Home to the world´s highest volcano, the Andean mountain rage makes Chile a destination of choice for adventure lovers and snow sports fans. The high mountains provide a stark contrast with other regions of Chile, such as the mild and bountiful central region, the rainy maritime climate and glaciers of the south, and the dry, hot Atacama desert up north. Chile´s history goes back to over 12.000 years B.C., with the first documented human settlement in the continent. Several ethnic groups shared the territory before the Spanish Conquest, including Aimaras, Changos, Mapuches and Yaganes. After the 15th century Spanish Conquistadores arrived, and following Chile´s independence migrants from a wide range of European and Middle Eastern nations settled in the young country, making it a melting pot of cultures and opportunities. This beautiful country with diverse landscapes, climates and cultures is home to 6 UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Rapa Nui national park and Qhapaq Ñan (the Inca Trail). From this eclectic mix of cultures and flavors come the world famous Chilean wines and cuisine, as well as their world-renowned poets and writers. In order to visit Chile, foreign citizens only need to show a valid ID (depending on the country it can either be a passport or a national identity card) upon arrival to get a “Tourist Card” for 90 days. Citizens with passports from Albania, Australia, Canada, USA and Mexico need to pay a Reciprocity Tax at the airport.

Whether your clients visit Chile for business or for pleasure, the “Country of Poets” has everything to charm them: from extreme sports to sophisticated wine tours, from exotic Polynesian experiences to breathtaking landscapes, everyone will fall in love with this South American gem.

SANTIAGO

Santiago is Chile´s capital city, and largest metropolitan area. It encompasses not only the city itself, but also Gran Santiago – a large metropolitan area comprised by 37 communes. The city is located in a plateau at the foothills of the Andean mountain rage, with an average height of 1,312 feet above sea level. Within the city you can find the famous “island hills”, among which Santa Lucia and San Cristobal stand out as tourists´ favorites in the heart of Santiago. The climate is attuned with the city´s Mediterranean location, enjoying mild temperatures all year long. Visitors should expect rains and occasional snowfalls in winter and dry summers. Santiago boasts several attractions in the city as well as nearby. Among the most visited landmarks you will find the bohemian Bellavista neighborhood - very popular due to its trendy bars, restaurants and art galleries; San Cristobal and Santa Lucia hills where tourists enjoy the city from a different perspective; the historical center with its emblematic buildings and the well-known shopping malls in the city´s most elegant neighborhoods. If your clients stay for a few days in Santiago, you can recommend unforgettable tours within a short distance of the capital city. Only a mere 25 miles away, you can visit Cajon del Maipo, an Andean canyon that offers several activities, such as rafting, trekking, thermal baths and snow sports. If your clients wish to enjoy the Pacific Ocean, they can visit the nearby Valparaiso port, or Viña del Mar. If looking for wine tours and high cusine, Valle del Maipo and Valle de Colchagua are excellent choices for wine tasting day tours. Visiting Santiago is easy, and you can get to the city via its Nuevo Pudahuel International Airport, or through its modern highways. Public transportation is reliable, and you can safely use the subway, take public buses or even rent bicycles.

Santiago has a lot to offer, invite your clients to enjoy one of South America´s hidden gems!
