PANAMÁ - THE CROSSROADS OF THE AMERICAS Panamá is a country in Central America with coastlines on both the Caribbean Sea and the North Pacific Ocean. The country’s strategic location determines many aspects of Panamá: as the isthmus connecting two massive continents, the flora and fauna is incredibly diverse, located less than 9 degrees north of the equator Panamá enjoys consistent warm temperatures year-round, and the territory of Panamá constitutes the narrowest part of the land bridge connecting North and South America, thus securing the location and control of the Panamá Canal, one of the most important shipping routes in the world. From crystal blue seas to coffee farms and cloud forests, Panamá can be as chilled out or as thrilling as you wish. The dazzling blue coastline and shimmering skyline of Panamá City say Miami, thus the local joke is that you hear more English spoken in Panamá. Panamá City is culturally diverse and driven, rough-edged and sophisticated. The construction to add a subway and completion of the massive canal expansion is a testimony to Panamá’s dynamic economy. In Panamá, wildlife is incidental: a sudden, brief sighting of a resplendent quetzal in the highlands, the unruly gang of screeching howler monkeys overhead on a trek or the breaching whale that turns a boat ride into an unforgettable event. Explore the ruins left by the Spanish conquistadors or take a ride deep into indigenous territories in a dugout canoe. Adventure tourism means zipping through rainforest canopies or trekking through dense jungle. After all, one small tropical country with two long coasts makes for a pretty big playground. In a world where the wilderness and native cultures are inexorably disappearing, Panamá – against all odds – continues with its essence intact. Panamá is an explosion of wildlife, cultures, history and ethnicities in the charmingly boisterous and colorful jigsaw that is Latin America.

EMBERÁ INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY The Emberá Indians are one of the many ethnic indigenous tribes in Panamá. Visitors are welcome to discover their culture in one of their communities, Emberá Purú, Parará Purú or Embera Drua (choice depends on the climate), each located on the banks of one of the most important rivers in the Canal Basin. After a scenic bus ride to the banks of the San Juan or Charges River, we are met by representatives of the Emberá Indians who take us up the river in piraguas (wood canoes). We then arrive at a community of Emberá Indians, originating from the mountainous region of the Darién province. We experience the history and culture of the indigenous culture, through narrative, traditional dance and craftsmanship like baskets woven from the natural fibres of the chunga, maquenque and naguala palm trees, as well as figures carved in cocobolo wood and tagua (better known as vegetable ivory). We will enjoy a traditional lunch of fried fish and yucca or plantains served in a plantain leaf cone. This is the opportunity to try an ancestral custom in the form of a tattoo with jagua, an extract from vegetable seeds, which the Emberá use to adorn their bodies with geometrical patterns or animal sketches for ceremonies and special celebrations. There is also time for a refreshing bath in the waterfall. At that time, this was the first ever European settlement on the American Pacific Coast. Several ruins form this archeological site. Many expeditions left from here and went on to conquer the Inca empire and the city became the hub in one of the most important commercial routes of the American continent, transporting gold and riches looted in the Americas back to Spain. The museum tells of the first, pre-Hispanic inhabitants, then the European settlement and lastly the move of the city to what is now the Casco Viejo and urban expansion. Continuing this historical journey we visit Reprosa, the only craftsmanship company that is authorised to reproduce the original gold and silver pieces of the pre-columbine ‘Las Huacas’ - treasures amassed and left long ago by the indigenous population, found on the Isthmus of Panamá. Thus, the lives and believes of past cultures are preserved for present-day generations. INCLUDED: Bus transport, English speaking guide, entry fees and beverages. drinks. SAN BLAS SAILING The most beautiful sailing area is located between Rio Diablo (Corazon de Jesus) and Porvenir: The waters are calm due to the protection of the Hollandes and Chichime Cayes and the turquoise waters meet with navy blue tones where we find coral drop-offs. As for the schedule, this is flexible and is discussed with the captain as soon as you arrive on-board, based on the number of day to be spent at sea, but count 2-3 hours sailing each day. Upon departure in Corazon de Jesus, the sailboat will hoist its sails and set off towards the neighbouring islands - Isla Verde, Coco Bandero, Morbedup, Cayos Hollandes, all the way to the Lemon or Chicheme Cayes. During the kayak ride up the Rio Diablo (Devil River) or Rio Manglar (Mangrove River) we may surprise toucans, osprey (sea hawks), egrets, woodpeckers, spider monkeys and even crocodiles. You will also have the opportunity to visit a traditional Guna Village, and get to know the Gunas - the masters in the making of mola embroidery. Or, simply enjoy the activities offered on board.
