DESIGPROJECT


Haze light in foggy city How can we create a comfortable city by reducing the haze. I aspire to be an advocate in design and planning for a rigorous and joyful engagement with people ,space and systems on all scales. I want to create great places in the public and private realm. Redesign urban building by hybridizing urban and natural systems. On the one hand, when the haze comes, the architecture unfolds to produce air pressure to force the haze into the filtration system among single architectural objects. It gets itself filtered by the filtering net and filtering mechanical facility and thus the air becomes clean. On the other hand, since a great deal of clean air exists at high altitude, we hope it can be led to stream down through an air duct set in the architecture to speed up the air flow so as to blow away the haze on the bottom of the city.




Comparison of the source of haze in London and Beijing:

Since 1950s London has been affected by haze. Thus they have accumulated a lot experience of how to deal with haze. And we could learn from them. It is helpful for us to find method to solve the haze problem in Beijing through analyzing the differences, causes, and the causes’ proportion between the haze in London and Beijing.



Analysis of the Haze height:

Take some sampling points in Beijing to do analyzing of haze height. The haze height in Beijing is mainly focus within 300 meters air above the ground. 300 meters above are basically the clean air. How to transport high-altitude air to the ground and then blown away the low-altitude haze has been a serious problem that need to solve.


Analysis of the Haze height :

Raising the building naming “haze light in foggy city” to the sky, on the top of it is the floating power unit which is located in 300 meters’ high altitude and directly absorbs in fresh air in high-altitude and then transport it to the ground. And put the rest building units in the haze to absorb in haze. Then the haze will be purified by the filtration membrane and internal mechanical cleaning means. (In the picture the blue line represents the clean air’s flow direction, black line represents the haze in direction, and red line represents floating building power flow direction.)


Purification principle:

The process that the air to come into the filtration membrane from the city via the vertical louvers track,tas the initial planar filter, the adsorption of dust in the air, and through the plants green interface on the air and oxygen humidification process, after air into the ground floor of the air handing unit, by adsorption tower and other devices with the power out pm2.5 dust and other impurities City air---Timber lattice to filter sand and dirt----Vegetarial oxygen and humidification----Purifying centrifuge to remove particals that above pm5---Electrostatic precipitator to mainly absorb pm2.5----Physical

About Site Choosing

With 25.52 million populations in 2015, Beijing is the political, economic and cultural center of China. And it is still expanding rapidly and gradually becoming an emerging global country. Rapid development speed has led to huge urban energy consumption. Industrial economic develop zone has almost spread all over the entire Beijing. Coal-fired power plants, industrial smelters etc. could be found everywhere (as shown in the picture). Take the largest steelmaker - Shougang as an example, it annually produce 9000 tons of air pollutants. Except in 2008, because of the hosting of the 2008 Olympic Games it was closed. But it was shift to more small factories which aggravates the pollution.


Aggravation of Industrial pollution

The yellow and black color in the picture represents the location of Beijing’s industrial zone. After years’ development, the industrial factory gradually moved to city center which aggravates the environmental pollution in inner city. Meanwhile, alone with the closure of Shougang, its auxiliary supporting industries has been allocated to the suburbs nearby such as Fangshan, Tongzhou, Shijingshan. The pollution caused by them could not unify dealt with, and this indirectly promoted the haze pollution in Beijing.




The Idea of the First Layer.

Circular flat medial cavity is the gas pipeline that transports the high-altitude fresh air. We abandon the traditional flat layer design method and divide the big space into several individual small spaces. And add communications, entertainments, fitness as well as haze purify experiment laboratory to the compartment. Thus, the walk in the buildings could have more possibilities. Meanwhile, the green plants were added to space design to provide a more comfortable living environment. Outside the space design is an annular viewing platform from where the Beijing’s beautiful scenery could be seen.


The Second and Third Layer

The change of building space turns more complex along with the rising of floors. On the entire flayer, from intricate corridors to misty space provide a different and new feeling. Form the window of transitional space could hear the activities inside the room. And this increases the interaction between people inside and outside the space. All these make the space experience more colorful.

Structural Design and Energy Using

On structure, we learned from the traditional bamboo made lantern. We choose light bamboo as raw material. The special dealing with the bamboo increased its intensity. And with special node design the entire building is light material. When it is a fine day, it collects and stores solar energy by using solar panels. When it is haze day, the solar energy that have been collected and stored before will provide power to heat up heating means at the top to heating air. The hot air and light helium provide lift power to rise up .


Membrane Structure Design

The membrane structure of every building unit imitates the organism to design. Multilayer filter constituted the entire membrane structure and membrane filtration can be freely drawn. In fine weather, the haze has less pressure for filtration and the membrane structure folds together. In haze day, when the pollution is more serious the membrane structure will be fully extended to strengthen the capacity of the filter.





Working system (The purify Scope ) Every building floating body has its own haze purify capacity scope. Combine with the location of base tower, correct allocation of building floating body will be helpful to the governance of haze.


Floating Track of the Building

According to the city big data analysis the urban areas’ haze concentration distribution; the building will change its floating tracks along with the haze concentration. The city haze concentration’s big data is equivalent to a guide signal. The signal guides the building move from high concentrations to lower concentrations. In this way, to achieve the purification of the urban haze more severely affected areas. Combine the haze monitoring real-time data in Beijing with the building floating move system enables the building to move along with the city’s haze concentration.




Self-changing of the Building Floating Unit

Set up many haze concentration test points in the city (the red point in the picture) to monitoring the haze concentration of the city’s various districts. Through the haze concentration we could adjust the state of the building floatation. In fine weather, the membrane unit will totally folded up, every unit folds up together. When the haze concentration is at general level, the membrane will open and rise to certain height. When the haze concentration is very high, the membrane will totally opened and floated in the air.



Flow of light and shadow With the rapid development of the city and the increase of population, the public green space is being occupied inch by inch. As the decreasing public space fails to meet the citizens’ needs of a colorful public life, people have less and less communication and interaction with others and the nature. We hope we can offer chances and space for making up such deficiency. The old trees are reserved and added into the architectural design as scenic spots. I decide the orientation of the architecture according to the sunshine to maximize the length of the tree shadow inside the room. The projection of the shadow diversifies the visual effect of the room, bringing various feelings to people.

Land Distribution

The northern region of Tianjin is surrounded by hills. The total urban area is 8521.88 square kilometers. With the city’s explosive development, however, there is only 3.6% of land planned using for the city’s park construction. The urban public spaces are few. And the lack of old city public space also cannot meet the public’s wealth demand. Further leads to human are less communications with nature and human interactions.

The right irregular circle separately represents the high-density population areas in the London and Tianjin. In London’s population distribution is more dispersed. And it has developed at many points. Thus, it has a lower dense blend with green construction. But in Tianjin, the population’s distribution is relatively concentrated. And it shows concentric circles way constantly expanding outward at the center of population density. And expanding green building is not in harmony with the population expansion reflects the lack of urban planning.



The interaction between architecture and landThe original form

The interpersonal interaction in the environment The program tries to explore the ancient neighboring environment. Increase the interactions between human and nature, human and human. Add the original ancient tree inside the base to the building as a landscape. Adjust the eye distance of the human and building outside, the landscapes inside the building as well as the human and landscape within the building so as to achieve the best eye distance and interaction effects.

Circular bicycle ramp will be added to the building. The cycling enthusiasts in city can get into the second floor outdoor activities platform. It is also a platform for performance and city streets mutually forms landscape. We hope that through this attempt, we could make the interior building also can infect the outer festive atmosphere then exudes vitality new free block.

We reconsider the relationship between the inside and outside of the building. In the whole design, both the inside and outside part has the same importance. Cover the sand to the ground to make sure the open area is bright and wide. Put the original trees into the courtyard. And the building is only a factor that constitutes the environment. It is a simple media that connects human to the environment. So add environment to the building suits to the design idea. On the roof there is a terrace; standing on it could see the entire base and the old street’s landscapes.

Standing at the overhead courtyard, overlook through the inner space could see the west and north road of using land is empty and next to it are other square buildings. The overhead part could be three floor’s high. So it has large space. And through the corridors and courtyard of the buildings could see the living environments of neighboring community. And attract them inside to the building.

We were inspirited by a continuous path design from Koolhaas the Dutch Embassy in Germany. Take the AC space line within the building as a guide. Flow lines will cut the interior space of the building to let the interior building has vertical space or completely block each other through the air so that the vertical space design process produces more possibilities to make room more hierarchy.

Use transparent glass as partition to divide the interface between interior space and traffic space. We also use glass to build the roof in order to receive enough sunglasses into the building. Changing and colorful flow lines’ design provides different landscaping experiences for those who are inside the building.

The building is located in the northern place. And it can view the landscape that surrounds the city. We try to design a space that has enough space for human beings to stand and view the landscapes. So, we designed “free� furniture, and floating slightly above the ground. Human beings can either kneel sit, laying or directly sit down. It is very naturally shows various gestures and behaviors of the space. Then provide the users opportunity to sightseeing the city’s beautiful sceneries.


The length of each bench is 3-4.2 meters; cross-sectional is 250mmX300mm; sit slope is 2%-5%, which is very comfortable and the slope is not very huge. The height of the bench continuously changes which naturally blend the walking and standing gestures of the human beings. And they were harmoniously merges into the outer street views.


The base was a narrow north wide south wedge and we will empty the underlying south side of the building in order to ensure the integrity of the main path inside the base. And appropriately overhead the bottom can spare more space back to the city where the aerial is designed as a small square that has big wooden tables and benches where the children could play in the evening to see the outdoor movies. And people in this space fully enjoy this pleasant.

Learned from the design factors of the old city district’s streets’ space, and add them into the design of the public corridors which leads to the upper floors as spiral staircases and connect it with terrace. We try to connect the inside and outside spaces. Considering the requirements of the public offices, we design public sharing offices which change the working space and mode of human beings. Through it workers sharing a happy communications with each other and thus appears a connected and colorful living environment.

Commercial multifunctional building Make a mottled effect for upper floors by corrosion. Chisel the smooth and flat glass wall for creating irregular room to present the inner sight of the building to the people. The balcony stretching out from the glass wall offers more green space to users and brings an unobstructed view of the city to residents. The previous traditional model of design’s outer layer always is glasses. We lack the outer skin of the building will be processed by etching the way; the open-air terrace and cantilevered space exposed to the environment gives a refreshing feeling. The sculptural outer skin make people feel this construction is linked more closely with the surrounding environment demonstrating the inherent vitality of the city’s buildings have long boundary ablation city skyline.

Each office has a flat space and indoor and outdoor panoramic balcony. Glass curtain wall rotary design maximum broaden the horizons of the occupants of the city provides a unique bird’s-eye view for the office staff. Balconies’ windows may be inwardly folded to a large extent the outside world constitute a system of mutual penetration.

Space layout

Spaces are interacted and connected. The traditional offices are relatively intensive and close. The whole building has little public lobbies for service and communicative activities. The public space is boring for the lack of environment factors. We will open diaphragm of the different story offices to let them communicate with each other and giving more opportunities to interact with each other.And Increasing the public area to be shared makes the building more economical and efficient.




Multimedia interactive device Increase the interaction between people and public art works to maximize the public’s attendance by multimedia public art device. We add public art device to the public space, rods of different height, curvature and length with microphones and loudspeakers, and set sound receivers in the forest. The sound in the forest can be recorded by the sound receivers and transmitted to the loudspeakers and broadcast. And people’s voice can be gathered by the microphones and broadcast at random. When you stand in the public space, you will sometimes hear the sound from the forest and whisper of others. The device magnifies the people’s interaction in public space. The integration of real and fictitious scenes turns the “emotional distance” among people of different space and time to be extremely delicate. All passengers seem to be in a huge amusement park, cracking jokes with others’ voice and enjoying the fun.

The sound in the forest can be recorded by the sound receivers (like picture on the left ).It can collected people's voice at different times as well as different places.May be loud or whisper. The sound recorded by the sound receivers can be transmitted to the loudspeakers and broadcast at random.When you stand in the public space, you will sometimes hear the sound from the forest and whisper of others.They come from different people. They may be by your side, also may be far away from you.All passengers could crack jokes with others’ voice and enjoying the fun from it.
