Trethowans votes to support Dorset Mind as one of its chosen charities

Staff at Trethowans, a UK Top 150 law firm based in Bournemouth and Poole, have elected Dorset Mind as one of their chosen charities, with the firm promising to match any funds its staff raises.

Dorset Mind supports people with mental health challenges. Its mission aims to educate about mental health conditions, to challenge mental health stigma and inequality, and to promote recovery by empowering individuals to develop resilience. The charity’s support services help people regain social skills, confidence and self-esteem. It currently also delivers educational wellbeing programmes for schools and workplaces.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment, Trethowans is encouraging its employees to raise money for Dorset Mind, and other causes that are close to their hearts through initiatives such as running events, long distance cycling and skydives. Not only will the firm match any donations raised (up to a maximum of £15,000 per year), but it will also cover entrance fees up to £75, to make it easier for staff to take part in activities and raise more funds for charity.

Dr Andy Mayers, Patron for Dorset Mind and Principal Academic at Bournemouth University, said “We are truly grateful for Trethowans’ generosity and commitment to supporting us at Dorset Mind.

“Our ambition is to enhance mental health and wellbeing right across Dorset. However, we cannot do that without funding. We are an independent charity and must generate our own income so that we can provide services. This investment from Trethowans will help us meet our ambition.”

It is a charity providing vital support to the local community and one we are proud to help fundraise for. We hope the firm’s pledge to match donations and cover entrance fees will encourage even more of our people to get involved.”

In addition to Dorset Mind, Trethowans has also elected Salisbury Hospice and Mountbatten Hampshire as its chosen charities in Wiltshire and Hampshire.

Earlier this year, Trethowans supported Bournemouth Foodbank as part of its commitment to CSR and the local area, by completing all legal work on its new five-year leasehold agreement on a free of charge basis. Also, in its last financial year Trethowans donated £25,000 to charities and good causes.
