To create the perfect cosy atmosphere you need to aim for a warm glow, this can be created by the use of strategically placed lamps or dimmable main lights. Add a statement light in the mix to complement your style and use carefully placed lamps to accent certain areas of the room like desks and tables.

Don’t move - Improve!

The property market has had huge volatility in terms of prices and a continuing mismatch of supply and demand of stock. The recent lockdowns have led us to really value a home we love, spending time with family as well as embracing the new reality of home working. We are looking for more space and connectivity to outside spaces.

You could consider an extension or a loft conversion. Once finished, the extra light and views a loft offers are a bonus and add value as will a well thought out extension. Before adding new space it is worth considering how you can remodel and improve the use of existing space.

Open plan living continues to be much sought after and so consider combining dining room/casual living/kitchen to create a multi-functional living space. Fewer and larger rooms with clear sight lines will make a house appear more spacious especially if the flooring and wall finishes continue throughout. If you have an additional room at the back of your property, with a low ceiling and sloping roof, increase the feeling of space by raising the ceiling and benefit from the additional height up to the roof, installing a Velux to create more light.

Consider your garden an extension of your house maybe adding a bespoke conservatory to take advantage of extra light. You may be able to house a home office, gym or outside entertainment space. If lacking space at the rear there may be room to add additional space to the front by creating a contemporary porch. Narrow entrances can get cluttered with coats and shoes. A porch can add dedicated storage space, improve security and prevent heat loss.
