Focus Vision: Help all students plan for life beyond graduation by developing a college and career-going culture (based on the CFISD District Action Plan) Goal: Working with Cypress-Lakes HS, Thornton MS, and Watkins MS, develop an effective school district model that promotes student access and success in higher education, replicating the model district-wide in year four

Outcomes Increase in the proportion of first generation and low-income students at Cypress Lakes HS that – 1. interact with staff (teachers, counselors, and specialist) 2. participate in college and career readiness activities 3. enroll in college or career/technical schools

Objectives Create an infra-structure (6-12) utilizing a scope and sequence that will guide, connect, and coordinate strategies for developing a college and career going culture Establish a College and Career Center at Cy-Lakes HS staffed by a specialist and designed to serve all students, targeting low-income and first generation students Create data collection methods and measures to evaluate participation Evaluate District policies and procedures Strengthen our partnership with Lone Star College – Cy-Fair

Visited colleges Participated in “College Night” Made numerous presentations on a variety of post-secondary topics
to middle and high school students and parents (English and Spanish), serving 2,202 parents/students during the 2008 fall semester Converted 4-year paper planning documents to electronic Personal Graduation plans to improve course advising and long-range planning for students Expanded the use of PSAT, using “Quickstart,” and AP Potential results, identifying prospective students for advanced courses Investigated web-based programs to help students with negotiating the college-going process – contracted ConnectEDU Created a multi-media presentation – “R U T NF?” Conducted a “Catch the Dream” student and parent summit
