Mayor Sylvester Turner was challenged by Demetria Smith, Naoufal HNoujami, Victoria Romero, Roy J. Vasquez, Derrick Broze, Sue Lovell, Tony Buzbee, Dwight A. Boykins, and Johnny "J.T." Taylor back on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, in the race for Mayor of the City of Houston. Mayor Sylvester Turner received 111,789 votes, for 46.38% of the vote, but was forced to a runoff by Tony Buzbee who only received 28.78% of the vote. Because no candidate received a majority of the vote, Mayor Sylvester Turner and Tony Buzbee went to a Saturday, December 14 runoff where Mayor Sylvester Turner received 113,262 votes, for 56.04% of the vote, and Tony Buzbee received 88,844 votes, for 43.96% of the vote.
