Orchestra

The Orchestra portion of the program is titled Classical Music Through Time.

Tonight’s program takes you on a journey through some of the most influential works in classical music, highlighting how the art form has evolved over centuries.

We begin with Mozart’s Presto from Symphony No. 1, a lively piece that embodies the elegance of the Classical era. Following that, we explore the emotional depth of Beethoven with Absolutely Beethoven, showcasing some of Beethoven's most iconic compositions and his powerfulcontributiontomusichistory.

Grieg’s Adagio from Piano Concerto in A Minor transitions us into the Romantic period, with its rich, expressive melodies. The energy ramps up with Glière’s Russian Sailors Dance, full of bold rhythms and dynamic contrasts. Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring then ushers us into the 20th century, known for pushing the boundaries of traditionalmusic.

We will conclude with Bittersweet Symphony by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, blendingclassicalandcontemporarysoundstoshowthe timelessinfluenceofthesegreatworks.

We will open with an arrangement of a minstrel song with text by Aaron Copland, originally published in 1954.

How Sweet the Sound is a new setting of the lovely text of John Newton, juxtaposed against lively percussion played by members of our Mustang drum line.

Elijah Rock is a traditional spiritual with a driving piano accompaniment, and is a favorite of our choir members.

Our portion of tonight’s program rounds out with Fly Away Home, accompanied in part by members of our Mustang Orchestra. This selection showcases lyrics aboutexploringth e world and life experiences while staying connected with where you came from, and knowing you can alwaysreturnhome.
