16Two Faces of Shostakovich May 3, 4, 2012 Hans Graf, conductor Mikhail Svetlov, baritone Shostakovich: Anti-Formalist Rayok Shostakovich: Symphony No. 11, The Year 1905 For his entire life, Shostakovich struggled with various political regimes, falling in and out of favor many times. In the Anti-Formalist Rayok, hear Shostakovich railing against his oppressors with biting sarcasm. The 11th Symphony represents the politically accepted Shostakovich, yet still full of searingly powerful commentary. Saturday and Sunday subscribers will attend the Friday performance.

Continue our under the sea voyage with Debussy’s La Mer and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. Fish created by local child artists will help set this concert firmly at the bottom of the sea.

4Perfect Pitch: Music of Baseball April 28, 2012 Your Houston Symphony slides into home as we finish the season with the best music from the ballpark. Houston Astros' announcer and Hall of Fame Awardee Milo Hamilton will narrate Casey at the Bat. Hear this line-up made up of all-stars.
