How to Waterproof Your Wood Deck in Steps

Step 1: Check Your Deck

Here are a few tests you may use to determine whether your deck needs waterproofing. Pour a few waters drops onto the deck. The deck is still covered if the water beads up, so there is no immediate need to waterproof it. If a drop soaks into the wood, it indicates that the original waterproofing or finish has worn away, leaving the timber exposed. Step

2: Prepare the Deck

Remove all of the deck's items, including any furniture and potted plants, before you begin Any delicate or frail ground plants close to the deck should be loosely covered with tarps or drop cloths Avoid covering plants and bushes with plastic sheets It can injure your plants and have a fatal "greenhouse effect "

Step 3: Apply Sealant

With a stain brush and working in the direction of the boards, apply a fine, even coat of a mold- and mildew-resistant, waterproof sealant with UV protection, such as Woodsman® Water Repellent or Woodsman® WoodToned UV Wood Sealer and Protector. Don't forget to cover cracks, steps, railings, and other challenging spots like corners.

Step 4: Finish Up

Stay away from the deck for at least 48 hours while it dries. Before replacing any furniture or potted plants, give the sealant enough time to thoroughly cure. When you're done, take off your drop cloths, put your deck's furniture and other objects back there, clean your tools, and take it all in.
