Our Logo
Our logo reflects the garden’s vibrancy and liveliness. Pass on this energy, shape our logo the way it should be.
01 Primary Logo In big formats, we want our logos to go horizontal, like a tree and a scrub. *Minimum size: 3cm Length
02 Secondary Logo When there are layout and space restrictions, such as in small formats, we want our tree to grow on a patch of grass. *Minimum size: 2cm Length *Follow the minimum sizes carefully. Anything smaller, our tree will look more like a seed.

13
Visual Language
Pictures speaks a thousand words. We can tell so much from a Brand just by looking at how it portray itself visually.
>> Visual Language
Singapore Botanic Gardens
Photography
Throw in the photos for the complete tactile sensation!
Photography is the main visual language that should be employed for use in all mass communications materials. Key Words Human and Nature, Vibrancy, Aspirational Lifestyle Key Audiences Families/Friends, Couples, Individuals Points to Note 1) The photos should capture people enjoying themselves within nature rather than be in a studio setting. 2) Consider photos of individual, couples, family and friends especially when there are a series of photographs to be shown. 3) Throw in a splash of vibrant colours! 4) More Asian materials are encouraged.
16
Visual Language
Help people visualise how they can spend their time with their love ones or alone. Families/ Friends
17
Singapore Botanic Gardens
Show people that perfect lifestyle, connect them with nature, and throw in the vibrant colours. Couples
18
Visual Language
Indvidual
19
Singapore Botanic Gardens
Secondary Photography
Complete the page with photographs of nature, connect the viewer to it. Secondary Photographs Photographs of plants/nature may be used only as a secondary image, zoomed in, cropped and reduced in size so as not to take away the attention from the main photograph.
20
Visual Language
Inappropriate Photography
Some photos just won’t work and reflects badly on our look. Black & White/ Desaturated/ Dull Photographs
Posed Photographs
Unnatural/ Manipulated Photographs( including duotone, posterisation, cross-processed)
Not to forget pixelated, poorly taken shots and other yucky photographs. 21
Singapore Botanic Gardens
Graphic Elements
Support the look of our logo, include bits and pieces of nature on the page, such as what we did on this spread. Plants comes in different shapes and forms; each and every leaf on the same tree is different from the other. Using angular shapes of different sizes and form is our way of representing nature in an abstract manner. Allocate plenty of white spaces instead of filling an entire page with colours.
22
Visual Language
Inappropriate Graphic Usage
We are not very particular how the graphics look but we do not like those listed on this page. Regular Patterns
Introducing New Colours
Outlines
Single Colours
Overlapping Shapes
Singapore Botanic Gardens
Putting Everything Together
Putting the elements together nicely... On a good page, the photo should be cropped in an angular shape so as to support the look of the graphic elements. More examples will be shown on section three.
Blowing Summer’s kisses in the air Brighten your face with a glow as the sun lay kisses on your skin in the tropical Garden of Eden!
24
Visual Language
Poor Page Construction
And a bad example will be like this.... Wierd photo manipulation, overlapping graphic elements, oversized secondary nature photos are just some of the Don’ts we mentioned earlier.
25
Singapore Botanic Gardens
Brand Communication
Finally, after laying down the basic rules, we can now look at how we can combine everything together so as to communicate a consistent message throughout the brand image.

Lifestyle Campaign
Catch on with people’s pace, move alongside them with a media campaign.
City dwellers are always on the move, day in, day out from home to work place and back to their homes. They tend to be very busy with their work thus never having a chance to stop to think of how they can slow down their pace of life. Grab the chance to pass on a message to them while they are on the move! Put up an effective media campaign at major public locations to help them visualise how they can have a more fulfilling lifestyle and achieve a work-life balance.
Locations to Consider Bus Stops, Buses, Taxis, Trishaws, Hippo Bus Tours MRT Stations, MRT Trains
Lifestyle Campaigns The example shown on the facing page is an example of a lifestyle campaign, aimed to pass on the message that the Singapore Botanic Gardens is packed full of bustling activities. It helps people to visualise what sort of activites they could do when they visit the gardens.

Swan Lake The scenic swan lake was added as a feature of the Botanic Gardens in 1866. The swans were imported from Amsterdam. Watch them glide gracefully across the water surface while enjoying the scenic surrounding it.
The Bandstand, surrounded by a rim of handsome Yellow Rain Tree is still more or less in its original 1860s form. Regimental bands played here then. Live the live of the Victorians by enjoying an aromatic cup of English tea while enjoying the picturesque view surrounding it.

Conclusion
A final thought.
As much as we want a carefree life, we still need there to be rules so as to ensure a sense of order. Thus whenever in doubt, just refer back to the guidelines we had listed in this document. We have given great thought in laying them down, all we ask for is a little respect for our brand. We hope it does not restrict your creativity flow. Uphold our brand image, bring our name far.
