The history of surfing

It was 1967 when a 20 year old pilot named Mario Salazar and his friend Jose Segovia saw something amazing from the skies over Costa Rica. Perfect waves breaking endlessly. They were so excited by what they saw that they wanted to learn how to surf but there were no surfboards in Costa Rica at all. They bought a couple foam boards with no fins and no leashes from a book store called Liberia Universal. They paddled and tried for many days to get up on these poorly equipped boards to no avail. Finally one of them bought a real surf board. They switched off with the good board and the foam board until one day Mario finally got up and began to ride. It was the first time someone ever t until 1994 that Costa Rica really flourished as a surfing destination when one of the worlds best known surfers Robert August along with his friends Robert Connell explored the magic of northern Costa and made the epic movie Endless s Point and Tamarindo which were featured in the movie are famous now. Tamarindo is the most popular surf spot in all of Central America. The movie really show cased going happy people and the endless empty beaches with amazing waves. This movie helped cultivate the huge surfing tourism we now see in Costa Rica. As a fortunate side note, The plane crash that happened in the movie was real and it was an accident. The pilot and the camera men were trying to get a better angle for a estuary onto the beach. Robert August and the others were not on the plane at the time. It took over a year to fix the plane, but this additional time needed allowed for more

Segovia vieron algo asombroso desde los cielos de Costa Rica. Olas perfectas rompiendo sin cesar. Estaban tan emocionados por lo que vieron que querían aprender a surfear, pero no había tablas de surf en Costa Rica. Compraron un par de tablas de espuma sin aletas ni correas en una librería llamada Liberia Universal. Remaron e intentaron xito. Finalmente, uno de ellos compró una tabla de surf real. Se desconectaron con la tabla buena y la tabla de espuma hasta que un día Mario por fin se levantó y empezó a montar. Era la primera vez que alguien surfeaba en Costa Rica y nació un nuevo capítulo. Pero no fue hasta 1994 que Costa Rica realmente floreció como destino de surf cuando uno de los surfistas más conocidos del mundo, Robert August, junto con sus amigos Robert "Wingnut" Weaver y Pat O'Connell, pica Endless Summer II. Los lugares para surfear Witches Rock, Ollie's Point y Tamarindo que aparecieron en la película ahora son famosos. Tamarindo a la gente tranquila y cula ayudó a cultivar el enorme turismo de surf que ahora vemos en Costa Rica. Como nota al margen afortunada, el accidente aéreo que ocurrió en la película fue real y fue un accidente. El piloto y los camarógrafos estaban tratando de obtener un mejor ángulo para una toma y el avión se estrelló en el estero de Playa Grande en la playa. Robert August y los demás no estaban en el avión en ese momento. Tomó más de un año arreglar el avión, pero este tiempo adicional necesario permitió más tiempo de pantalla para navegar en Costa Rica, lo que sería una bendición disfrazada.
