LETTER FROM THE
Conductor
Welcome to the 2016-2017 Season of the Adrian Symphony Orchestra. It is my pleasure and honor to share such wonderful music with you and to have this opportunity to work with your musical and cultural gem: the Adrian Symphony Orchestra. When I visited Adrian in April of 2016, I was impressed by the orchestra, the audience and the community. As the new music director, I am excited about writing this orchestra’s next chapter with you. Our new chapter begins now, with this season. We have assembled a rich collection of musical offerings — each piece carefully chosen to bring you concerts that are full of life, vitality, passion and beauty. Concerts should be wonderful experiences from beginning to end. Our goal is to make each and every concert not only a memorable experience but one that is worth your time and leaves you excited about the next one. While I still have a lot to learn about this community and orchestra, I am most excited about meeting you, the audience. You have played an integral part in building and sustaining this cultural institution. I am excited about getting to know you, entertaining you and surprising you throughout our first season together. And I greatly look forward to dreaming with you about the orchestra’s future. Thank you and welcome to our Season! Bruce Anthony Kiesling ASO Music Director

KODALY: Dances from “Galanta” RACHMANINOFF: Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini , Op. 43 DVORAK: Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” Keeping our eyes and ears on recognizable classics, Rachmaninoff and Dvorak each composed works that ignite our passions and display a stunning mastery of the orchestra. Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody contains perhaps the most famous love theme in all of classical music and Dvorak’s “New World” symphony captures the majesty, power, and beauty of this country, from sea to shining sea.

When we moved to Adrian we were very excited to find the ASO. The quality of music is comparable to symphonies in much larger cities that we’ve attended. It’s now our favorite date night.
