Plastic Surgeons Think They are the Best Injectors According to recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Botox injections are the most popular minimally invasive procedure, with up to 1,450,974 injections performed in 2013. Men, women and even teens are opting to try out injectables to banish wrinkles and lines. However, with the rising demand for such agedefying treatments, unauthorized non-aesthetic providers and do-it-yourself kits have entered the scene. Accordingly, some plastic surgery experts conducted a survey to assess the ability of various providers to administer these cosmetic injections. According to the results of the study published in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the official journal of ISAPS, plastic surgeons regard themselves the best injectors. Here is a brief look at the study and its findings: • An online survey was sent to 26,113 plastic surgeons worldwide in the summer of 2013 • Participants included plastic surgeons, gynecologists, dentists, dermatologists, nurses in plastic surgery, dermatology and other fields. • These healthcare practitioners were asked six questions to assess their potential to administer BOTOX, fillers, and vaccines

• Over 880 plastic surgeons said they believe themselves and dermatologists to be the most capable injectors • The surgeons noted that nurses in all fields are the most capable when it comes to administering vaccines According to the main investigator, the presence of various providers in the field of cosmetic injectables necessitates further clarification of training requirements and practice guidelines to ensure patient safety and reliable, reproducible results. The attractiveness of Botox lies in its ability to reduce moderate to severe brow furrows, wrinkles, and facial creases. Botox injections are safe, though common side effects include swelling or bruising at the treatment site, headache or symptoms similar to those of flu. Performed by an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon, results can be quite impressive with little risk of complications. However, the wrong placement of the injection can cause issues such as eyelid droop, crooked smile, dry eye or excessive tearing.
