AN INTERVIEW WITH NATALI MUZYKA BY HARSHIT PATEL

Hi, could you start by telling us a bit about yourself? Hi there. I'm Natali Muzyka and my life belongs to fashion, art, design and to all esthetic related items. I adore fashion design, combination of the colors, and playing with shade-lights in spaces. So far I'm Co-Owner of the Interior design company “Black Vogelkop” in Dubai and I have been living in this city for 5 years. Modeling is my passion. Being a photo model gives me self-expression and a manifestation of my innate acting talent. And also the ability to try on different images, both externally and internally. Tell us about your journey so far? Several months ago I flew to Armenia. This is an amazing country with delicious food, rich historical culture, unique architecture, and beautiful ethnic costumes and family traditions. My 5 days were unforgettable and left a lasting impression. Highly recommended for visiting winter ski resorts and summer vacation in villas in the mountains. How would you describe your style? In the style of clothing for myself, I prefer comfort combined with elegance, but sometimes I go into the elements of gypsy and boho style.

Tell me about your experience as a model. I started at a modeling school in Ukraine. After that, I became the ambassador of the Matrix collections from the Academy of Beauty of L’Oréal Ukraine. And also the face of a chain of beauty salons. 2020 has been the strangest of years, how did you find lockdown? Any lessons or discoveries? Lockdown for me was a great time for spiritual practice, realization and rethinking of my life goals. There was time for learning how to play the piano, theta-healing and coaching, marketing, and other interesting things. I had a very productive time and I am grateful for this opportunity to be with myself. What are your hopes for the future of the fashion industry? As per my point of view, I see the development of the fashion design industry. Regarding the fashion industry market, the mass-market and haute couture will move further from each other on this day. and, of course, I see prospects in the secondary use of things, both in fashion and in design in general.

I think this is the future. We can already observe this everywhere in our life. Environmental friendliness will become an important part of our life. Who have been some of your favorite collaborators so far in the industry? I loved working with Loreal Ukraine and a number of Ukrainian designers. Since I am engaged in parallel with another type of activity in interior design, I always have the opportunity to plan my different work activities taking into account my desires. What first piqued your interest in fashion and modeling? I started modeling because it allowed me to accept myself. And also express myself, try on different images that are not practical in life. You know, women are actresses with a thousand faces and characters. We need to express ourselves and release, at least not for long, these personalities living in us. Modeling perfectly helps with this. Plus it's a great opportunity to meet creative and interesting people.

What is fun and rewarding about modeling? And what is not? From funny and amusing, these are moments in photo shoots of randomly recorded frames and grimaces. from a recent example, this is the moment when a camel suddenly began to chew my dress behind me and the emotions on my face were genuinely alive. this is the appeal of modeling, you never know what will happen on the set. What is the biggest highlight of your career so far? At this point I decided to go further and try myself in the field of beauty. at the moment I'm preparing myself for participation in a number of international beauty contests. what a secret so far) Do you have a favorite designer or high street brand? For now I’m choosing COS and DESIGUAL brands. How has your style changed over the years? Over the years, I have chosen comfort combined with elegance. Also at the moment I prefer more feminine silhouettes. For evening outings I still like to dress with a wow effect.

What is your greatest strength. I am a communicator. I always know how to negotiate and find the right contacts and have an approach to absolutely everyone. I think this is my gift. What are your goals as a model? Currently in my plan win a couple of international beauty contests for charitable purposes. for example miss universe. as it makes a very big contribution to charity all over the world. How do you imagine a typical day in work? My day starts at 5.30 am. necessarily in the morning schedule includes intentions for the day, meditation, some learning and active sports such as boxing as well. Delicious breakfast giving me power to start at 9am a briefing in my office on design projects. After that meeting with clients on the interior. inspired by beauty and ideas, I can go to a photo shoot, maybe even to another country. Inspiration of aesthetic pleasure, a change of scenery and the beauty around me giving me rise to ideas for the subject of an art photo shoot in my head. after 6 pm, the time belongs to me and communication with close people.

to maintain beauty and health, I sleep at least 7 hours. And at 9 pm I start getting ready for bed. I have approximately such a similar schedule now) What are your greatest accomplishments so far? So far i have opened a design company “Black Vogelkop” in Dubai. I and my business partner are working on various international construction and design projects. I really love engineering and I am constantly learning new things that I successfully use in projects and everyday life. What sorts of settings/clothes/brands do you prefer to shoot for or wear? I really like style of ETRO. My boundless love with colors does not leave me indifferent. And at the same time, I respect and appreciate the style of the Chanel company. femininity and elegance have never left me indifferent. What’s the one habit you have that changed your life for the better? Unambiguously dedication and uncompromising in achieving their goals.

What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you? I have been professionally engaged in choreography for 21 years and ended my career in the national team of Ukraine. In my spare time I do art works and soon they will be exhibited at the Dubai Gallery. I do charity work, as well as a mentor for students at the university. I’m in love with cars. I like to develop the exterior design of cars with Vinil. And I love racing madly. Even in Dubai sometimes I’m participating in spontaneous races. Speed, competitions, night lights of the city - great way to change my mood)

This Summer, The Sarong Skirt Is Going Beyond the Beach and Into The City

There's great comfort in nostalgia, and gentle retro trends have been doing the rounds in fashion of late. When Fendi announced The Baguette Walk, a short video series created for the launch of the Baguette 1997, it almost felt like the natural course of things. The iconic bag that has been part of many iconic fashion moments in pop culture, has now been revamped for the Fendi Summer 2021 Capsule. The launch video series has been exclusively shot in Paris and stars French actor Ana Girardot, joined by her tribe of girlfriends—Spanish creative Maria Bernad, Chinese model and painter Nini Li-Yun Hu, and model Fatdwa Diawara—all enjoying a day out together with their Baguette 1997. The videos artfully reflects the spirit of the bag and captures the ’90s vibe as the girls are snapped frolicking around Parisian streets, and striding along the zebra crossings of the rues. The Baguette 1997 marries old-world regalia and charm to modern design vocabulary, playing with the original silhouette featuring slim slides and an adjustable and flappable handle. The archive re-editions feature the FF Vertigo pattern—a distorted and magnetic variant of the Maison’s monogram—realised in collaboration with New York-based visual artist Sarah Coleman. The patterns, in playful yellow or blue variations, pop up on a timeless tobacco jacquard fabric, as well as on canvas punctuated by the archival flower embroideries.

FASHION

After breaking the internet last week with the announcement of her surprise wedding to real estate agent Dalton Gomez, Ariana Grande could wrap up May with a well-deserved vacation to bask in newlywed bliss. However, as one of pop’s leading ladies, Grande is dedicated to her craft and doesn’t miss an opportunity to delight her fans with a performance. Last night at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles, she reunited with frequent collaborator, The Weeknd, for a special performance of their hit ‘Save Your Tears.’ She dazzled the audience in head-to-toe purple pieces from British label Rat and Boa, which were simple, elegant, and surprisingly affordable. Priced at just $85 for the top and $125 for the skirt, the look was accessible to many of the star’s millions of fans—if they could snag it before it sold out. Great outfits combine high and low, so Grande and stylist Mimi Cuttrell incorporated a few luxe accessories to spice things up. The halter neck top, with its ring detail and flowing wrap skirt, were complemented by Stuart Weitzman’s towering sandals. Though her Anita Ko diamond chokers and matching zipper earrings were stunning, the jewelry that commanded the most attention was Grande’s pearl and diamond engagement ring, designed by Gomez.

Kate Middleton just channeled Princess Diana in the most touching way. On May 24, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge—who are referred to as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn while in Scotland—continued their tour of the country with a visit to Turning Point Scotland’s center in Coatbridge. Middleton looked stunning in an all-blue ensemble: a double-breasted Zara blazer with a perfectly matched pleated skirt by the U.K. brand Hope, per People. However, the duchess didn't look just beautiful; she looked familiar. On September 9, 1992, Princess Diana wore practically the exact same outfit. Albeit with a more modern silhouette, Middleton's monochrome look also featured gold buttons and a pleated skirt that lands below the knee. The only difference we could spot was that Middleton swapped out blue heels for nude pumps and added a COVID-19-friendly face mask. Take a look: While Kate Middleton has often worn looks matching or inspired by her mother-in-law—we even have an entire gallery of them—this reference was particularly touching, given her husband's recent speech at the Church of Scotland. On May 22, Prince William opened up about his mother's death during a moving address about his connection to the country. “Scotland is the source of some of my happiest memories. But also my saddest,” Prince William said, according to Entertainment Tonight. “I was at Balmoral [Castle] when I was told my mother had died. Still in shock, I found sanctuary in the service at Crathie Kirk that very morning. And in the dark days of grief that followed, I found comfort and solace in the Scottish outdoors. As a result, the connection I feel to Scotland will forever run deep.” But Scotland is also where Prince William met his wife at St. Andrews, where they both attended college. “And yet alongside this painful memory is one of great joy. Because it was here in Scotland—20 years ago this year—that I first met Catherine,” he said. “Needless to say, the town where you meet your future wife holds a very special place in your heart. George, Charlotte, and Louis already know how dear Scotland is to both of us, and they are starting to build their own happy memories here too. We have no doubt they will grow up sharing our love and connection to Scotland from the Highlands to the Central Belt, from the Islands to the Borders.”

MAA Releases New Photographs Of Istanbul's Supertall TV And Radio Tower As The Tower Opens In Spring

ARCHITECTURE

MAA - Melike Altinisik Architects, led by Melike Altinisik, has released new photographs of Istanbul's futuristic supertall TV and Radio Tower, the hotlyanticipated project has been completed and has started its main telecommunication functions in November 2020. Set to be opened to the public in late Spring, a set of latest images shows details from interiors of the tower and different perspectives in the landscape within it is situated. Reaching at 369 meters in total, the tower, photographed by London-based architectural photography studio NAARO, reveals that how its rippling form creates a sense of motion and rhythm within its silhouette that changes when viewed from different directions around Istanbul. On the top of the tower, a two-storey restaurant and observation deck, situated within the top 13 levels, will provide a 360-degree view across Asia to Europe. The project will also host a public foyer, café, exhibition and mediatic areas inside the entrance podium. Designed with an organic structure, which is not familiar within the urban fabric of Istanbul, the key design principle of design is to reflect these inputs like wind direction, local topography, and the sceneries in the form of the tower. "Its architectural formations combine elegance and beauty with math and geometry, whose innovative concept allows inhabitable spaces to be attached to the whole of the tower’s core," said MAA in its project description. During construction, in a such a unique design, "the construction required advanced engineering techniques both in terms of architectural design and construction methodology," as the team of MAA highlighted. The interior design of follows the traces of the same, outer architectural language and character of the project. Rippling surfaces span the entrance foyer, while these surfaces partly become ceiling, partly become furniture. MAA said that "the interior design was developed based on the fact that the building includes unique spaces that offer a new experience and contain futuristic design characters." "The main purpose is to create surprising encounters by establishing strong relationships with where it is located, using light, nature, and spatial spaces; so that it may change people’s perspective, and courage them think differently," the studio continued.

From Fashion Darling to Global Beauty Ambassador: Adut Akech Is the New Face of Estee Lauder

BEAUTY

When Adut Akech began modeling professionally at the tender age of 16, she had an unfortunate introduction to the industry. “My hair got burned,” the now 21-year-old South Sudan–born runway star recalls of a time not long ago when having a like-minded hairstylist or makeup artist of color on set or backstage was rare. “Our hair doesn’t need heat and everyone started straightening my hair. So I shaved my head—I went bald,” Akech continues of a formative beauty decision that both empowered her and helped cement her status on the catwalk. “Now, I know to say, ‘No, this is not the right shade for my skin tone,’ or ‘No, this does not work with my hair.’ I want new faces to be vocal about this stuff, too. That’s one thing I want to see change.” Her platform to help exact this kind of advancement just got a whole lot bigger: Today, Akech becomes the newest global brand ambassador of Estée Lauder. The circumstances around Akech’s unlikely road to fashion superstardom are well-covered territory at this point: After spending her early childhood in the U.N.-run Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, she relocated to Adelaide, Australia, when she was around seven years old, which is where she was eventually scouted. Lesser known is how this experience impacted her approach to beauty. “My mom and my aunties just used natural oils and homemade moisturizers, so I was taught at an early age the simplicity of not doing too much but taking skin care seriously,” she tells me on the outdoor patio of a downtown New York hotel room, her just-glossed lips and oft-photographed cheek bones radiating off a caramel-colored Rosetta Getty satin halter dress. In town from Los Angeles, where she relocated earlier this year, Akech admits that like so many Gen-Zers she still went through a “10-step skin-care routine” phase, which has recently been boiled down to just a handful of Estée Lauder mainstays. “When I find something that works for my skin now, I just stick with it,” she says of “absolute favorites” including the brand’s bouncy DayWear Anti-Oxidant 72H-Hydration Sorbet Crème SPF 15 (“Im very big on SPF,” she says. “I used to think that because I had darker skin I didn’t have to wear sunscreen, but that's not true!”), Pure Color Envy Nighttime Rescue Lip Oil-Serum, its cultish Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask “for travel,” and the Little Black Primer. “I love this a lot,” Akech says of the multitasking mascara base or top coat, which helped tint and condition her lashes during lockdown when she stopped doing extensions. “Makeup has always really been fun for me,” Akech says, describing an early appreciation for colorful eyeshadows that stemmed from watching her two older sisters adapt to Australian culture—and, of course, from YouTube. (“Thank God for YouTube,” she jokes. “Watching makeup tutorials and cooking tutorials is my thing.”) The video sharing platform was actually her first exposure to Estée Lauder, which hooked a young Akech with well-placed ads; the second was on an international flight when she had just begun traveling as a model. “I was going through duty free, and they had one of the biggest billboards in the airport.” The parallels between the size of Lauder’s global footprint and the magnitude of Akech’s contract are there for the making. Despite her meteoric rise, Akech has remained without a broadreaching beauty role—a career milestone that often comes with editorial success. It has made her a huge get for Lauder, which adds Akech’s star power to an already blockbuster roster of models including Karlie Kloss, Grace Elizabeth, and Carolyn Murphy, whose face was previously known to Akech only in billboard-size; when they met in person on the set of her first campaign for the brand— a group ad for its Double Wear foundation franchise, due out in July—Akech cried. “I was nervous but everyone was just so welcoming and nice. I feel very proud that I’m now a part of an awesome, very welcoming family. It’s a great moment for me to show the world more of who I am.”

CELEBRITY BEAUTY

“It is kinda crazy that I’m the first, I hadn’t even thought about it that way,” Melissa Barrera admits when I point out how monumental it is that she’s Clinique’s first Global Brand Ambassador to hail from either of the Americas. (Barrera joins London-born Emilia Clarke, who was announced as a global ambassador last year.) She’s surrounded by Clinique’s VR logo background on a Zoom setup in Los Angeles—the city she’ll call home for a few more days until she moves to Austin to be closer to family in Monterrey, Mexico. Soon, she'll drive to Venice for her first photoshoot with the brand, a social announcement ahead of the official campaign this fall. “It makes me feel good that little Latinas are going to be able to see me and think that they can also be the face of a brand globally, I feel like that means a lot,” says Barrera. “I’ve always dreamed of having a campaign like this, and I never saw anyone that looked like me, or that had a name that sounded like mine, or that I knew was a Latina.” For the past decade, Barrera has hopped back and forth between Mexico and America. After growing up in Monterrey, she studied in New York at Tisch School of the Arts, then returned to Mexico to star in telenovela Siempre tuya Acapulco. It was back to the U.S. to film the TV drama series Vida, and later to star as Vanessa in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s screen adaptation of the musical In the Heights (not to mention the titular character in Carmen). Barrera is still in I’ll-believe-it-when-I-see-it mode when she imagines being on a Tribeca red carpet for In The Heights next week for the film’s premiere in advance of its June 11 release. “I think it’s a movie that is going to move a lot of people, is going to mean a lot, especially to the Latinx community,” she says. “I can feel all the opportunities that are happening for our community, and me being able to do this with Clinique feels like a big step—not just for me, for everyone.” The beauty brand appreciates the work Barrera has put in to get her to this point. “We want people with substance to represent Clinique, more than just pretty faces and talking heads,” says Elizabeth Nolan, Clinique’s Global Creative Director. “We knew immediately that Melissa’s energy and passion are inextricable from what makes her so beautiful and are excited to bring our products to life in a new way with her bold voice.” Barrera plans to use that unique voice for greater connection. “I want to be able to speak to all of these people in Latin America in Spanish,” she says. “Our community has all felt, whether it’s conscious or unconscious, kind of erased from the world for a long time. Kind of forgotten or unimportant—and it’s our time.” Pantomiming the size of this moment, her floaty white sleeves reach to her short, pale green nails—the color of the iconic packaging she now represents. Barrera recalls her mom doing her makeup for childhood dance recitals with a compact in the same shade. Those early moments preparing for an audience were wrapped up with her introduction to the brand. Today, she’s exactly where she hoped to be. “All the things that I’m living right now are the things that I’ve always wanted to be able to do,” says Barrera. “I also feel like I’ve worked my butt off to be here.” When I ask if she feels like a magnet centered in a spiral of opportunities, Barrera admits to believing in the law of attraction. “I do believe in thinking and willing things into existence, obviously putting in the work for it,” she says. “Even though it’s ten years in, I don’t feel like I'm in the middle of anything, I weirdly feel like I'm literally just starting my life.”
