audience profile

Amanda Road is a Junior at the local university. She is outgoing and loves to have a good time. Amanda does not really care about what people think of her, she is a free spirit and just likes to live life and live it to the fullest. Her weekend activates are full of going out to the bars with her girl and guy friends, going shopping at nice boutiques during the week, and reading by the pool. The kind of books she likes to read are usually personal narratives. Her all-time favorites are about personal crazy nights. The Hot Zone series is perfect for her! They depict raunchy stories of one night stands, drinking, and being promiscuous.

loose girl Loose Girl is Kerry Cohen s captivating memoir about her descent into promiscuity and how she gradually found her way toward real intimacy. The story of addiction not just to sex, but to male attention Loose Girl is also the story of a young girl who came to believe that boys and men could give her life meaning.

The Message… Kerry Cohen takes the reader into her extremely personal and sad journey through being a young woman. She lets the reader know exactly how she ended up being “that girl” that was doing pretty much anything to get attention from men. She was on a mission to find how she could fill the void in herself. This book is honest and raw.

Never less than riveting, Loose Girl re-creates what it feels like to be in that desperate moment when a girl tries to control a boy by handing over her body, when the touch of that boy seems to offer proof of something but ultimately delivers little more than emptiness.

I chose this book because I really enjoy reading memoirs as well as a true and raw story. Kerry Cohen says what most women or girls don’t, she goes into all details of all these sexual experiences. It’s a crazy read and extremely captivating.

The unforgettable story of one young woman who desperately wanted to matter, Loose Girl will speak to countless others with its compassion, understanding, and love.

i hope they serve beer in hell

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell is a New York Times #1 bestseller and has made the Best Seller List each year from 2006 to 2011.It has sold over one million copies worldwide, including 400,000 copies in 2009 alone. The book was subsequently made into a feature film of the same title. Composed of short stories narrated by the author, the book often focuses on the narrator’s humorous excess. The stories deal with themes such as the author’s views on women, drinking (often to excess), insulting people, and embarrassing sexual encounters. A sequel, Assholes Finish First, was released by Simon and Schuster on September 28, 2010.

The Message… Is that Tucker Max, is a total ass hole, and he is proud of it. He does not care what anyone things, (Obviously) and he is going to tell it just how it is. I guess he thinks that you can live life just as you want, and don’t have to feel bad for anything you decide to do, even if it’s an asshole move. I chose this book because I wanted to have a good laugh, as well as see nights out and about from a mans eyes. He does not sugar coat anything, and I really appreciate that as a reader, it makes each story raw and believable. The cover of all his books could you some diversity, in 3 of the 4 he is the cover photo.

are you there, vodka? its me chelsea When Chelsea Handler needs to get a few things off her chest, she appeals to a higher power— vodka. Seems reasonable, when considering that she discovered her boyfriend was having an affair with a Peekapoo and she had to pretend to be honeymooning with her father in order to upgrade to first class. Welcome to Chelsea’s world—a place where absurdity reigns supreme and a quick wit is the best line of defense.. In this highly entertaining, deliciously skewed collection, Chelsea mines her past for stories about her family, relationships, and career that are at once singular and ridiculous. Whether she’s convincing her third-grade class that she has been chosen to play Goldie Hawn’s daughter in the sequel to Private Benjamin, deciding to be more egalitarian by dating a redhead, or looking out for a foulmouthed, rum-swilling little person who looks just like her...only smaller, Chelsea has a knack for getting herself into the most outrageous situations.

The Message.... This book is far from traditional in the sense that it really has no positive meaning. The way Chelsea takes the reader through her drunken nights, crazy sex experiences, and what she thinks of nearly every single person she comes in contact with. This book is meant to make the reader laugh, gasp, and be semi disgusted all at the same time. I chose this book because of its pure raw funny story line, but I do not think that the cover for this, or any of her books,, have covers that really have the capability of grabbing the readers attention and can actually start to explain all of her absolutely insane experiences and stories!

project overview The goals of the book cover redesign project was to take three books that some how were related to each other through either subject, or author and make them into a series. I chose; Loose Girl by Kerry Cohen, I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell by Tucker Max, and Are you there, Vodka? Its me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler. These books are all related through subject matter, they all focus on scandalous stories of nights before. All of the authors rehash crazy stories of sex, drinking, and one night stands. I chose to take this book series in a direction that focused on all of them being related to a little black book. All of the covers had a black background with a negative space that was somehow in relation with sexual innuendos. The processes lead me to understand that the books did not have to be complicated or screaming at the reader, that the simple black and white color palette with hints of accent colors were able to grab attention in just the same way. Overall my series can be simple on the outside, because the stories that fill the pages are what really stands out.

blurb

In order to refresh my book series, my book cover designs focus on grabbing the readers attention through the use of striking black and white contrast, as well as the use of shapes to suggest body parts of the female body. The covers portray the feeling of a little black book. Letting the insane stories that fill the pages be the real shining star.
