hen Jenni Romanow and Chris Harris were engaged after five years together, they enlisted the help of event designers Social Butterflies to create the unforgettable settings for their wedding day. After a ceremony at Independent Presbyterian Church, guests made their way downtown for the reception. The Peabody Hotel's Grand Ballroom emanated old-Hollywood glamour with mirror-top tables that overflowed with goldrimmed china, crystal candleabras and walls and ceiling draped in creamy satin. The incredible décor continued with a night-club inspired after party where clear “ghost” chairs and white mod tables and couches were expertly lit with purple and white lights. “What we wanted more than anything, was for our guests to wake up the next morning and say ‘that was so incredibly fun’,” Jenni says.

F

rom the sunny yellow bridesmaids’ dresses to the pair of vintage doors at the end of the aisle, Lindsay Williams and Kyle Dixon’s June wedding was the epitome of a summer garden party. “Kyle and I knew we wanted something natural and outside. When we looked at the Botanic Garden, particularly the Blecken Pavilion, we knew it was perfect.,” Lindsay explains. Roses, hydrangeas, tulips and lilies in yellow, orange and pink gave gardeninspired color to the bouquets, centerpieces, and ceremony flowers. A bountiful feast at the reception included an Asian station (mini takeout boxes), a Southern station (featuring a fried green tomato tower), and an Italian station (cooked-toorder ravioli). For a surprise finale, guests lounged in the garden listening to the Steve Miller band performing around the corner at the annual Live at the Garden concert series.

B

lair Carter and Tom Tait chose a traditional church ceremony for their December wedding, and when guests arrived at the Memphs Zoo’s afterwards, they were greeted with festive elegance. Christmas trees covered in pink lights, flickering candles, and soft, rose-hued light bathed the interior of the Teton Trek Lodge. As a nod to the bride’s favorite animal, the wedding’s signature cocktail was dubbed the “Pink Monkey Champagne Cocktail,” and paper monkey masks made a great wedding party photo opportunity. One detail, however, gave the guests—and the newlyweds—an unforgettable surprise. In the middle of Blair and her father’s dance, a mascot in a humorous hot pink monkey suit bounded into the crowd, cut in, and led the speechless, laughing bride in an hilarious, playful waltz.

Cultural Fusion

F

or Amy Vo and Jimmy Tran, a wedding was the perfect opportunity to fuse their families’ traditional Vietnamese rituals with the traditions of a modern American wedding. The couple had a wine ceremony on the morning of their big day, exchanging gifts and serving wine and tea to the elders of their families. “This symbolizes that each family shares an equal part in the couples’ lives,” Amy explains. A Christian church ceremony followed, where the bride changed from a silk tunic and pants into a strapless white gown with classic lace veil. Wedding planners The Social Butterflies used golds, white, pinks, and yellows to transform the Esplanade’s ballroom into the perfect venue for a dinner of authentic Asian fare alongside traditional wedding cake.

hen it came time to tie the knot, Crystal Autry and Jim Tucker wanted to look their best, which for them meant avoiding the obvious and choosing unique attire for themselves and their wedding party. The bride selected three different styles and colors of knee-length chiffon gowns for her bridesmaids, and kept her own look simple and stunning in a strapless, flowing gown with beaded appliqués. The groomsmen abandoned boring black tuxes for stylish grey suits over crisp white shirts and patterned ties. A reception at the Aeneas Building on Lambuth University’s campus was bright and whimsical thanks to the décor and floral designs by Angela Mazanti. The tables were as well dressed as the bridal party with white candelabras, vintage glass votives, and arrangements of fuchsia, lavender, and pink roses with lush greenery and plum tablecloths.

fter a ceremony at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, guests of Melissa Falanga and Hunter Burrus’ wedding made their way to the pastoral grounds of Hillwood at Davies Manor plantation near Lakeland, Tenn. Inside a charming reception hall, string lights added simple festivity to the exposed timber beam ceiling, and stunningly carved gourds and pumpkins reflected the bucolic setting. A grand stone fireplace filled with flickering candles added coziness to the reception hall. The bride herself was a perfect picture of charm in a full ball gown with a prim bouquet of dusty pink roses. “We wanted the reception to be Southern, elegant, and to reflect the season,” Melissa explains. Comfort foods like fried catfish, hush puppies, mac-n-cheese, and mashed potatoes added to the relaxed but fun vibe of the evening.

A

fter living in the Washington, D.C., area for several years, bride Tara McClinton wanted to incorporate the feel of the modern, chic venues she had seen into her and Jason Jackson’s Memphis wedding. Gallery space at 409 South Main gave wedding designers Andria Lewis and Angela Mazanti the perfect canvas for the white palette accented with purple, pewter, and gray. The bridal party looked as stylish as the décor; the bride wore a fitted white gown with a soft mermaid silhouette and a smart birdcage veil. Groomsmen and bridesmaids were cool and classy in grey and charcoal with fun footwear— the groomsmen in Converse Chuck Taylors and the ladies in matching purple strappy heels. From floor to ceiling and head to toe, Tara and Jason’s wedding was the epitome of swanky, upscale style.

or Marianna Rutherford and Nic Vescovo, a festive winter wedding at the Cadre Building in downtown Memphis was only the beginning of their adventure. White string lights, fresh greenery, and red and white flowers were a nod to the season, and a surprise appearance by young rapper Lil P’Nut made for an exciting and fun reception. For their honeymoon, the two traveled over 70,000 miles to visit Thailand and China, where they joined in the Full Moon Party in Koh Samui and visited an elephant reserve before enjoying a Christmas Day together in Beijing at the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. The two capped off their exotic honeymoon by climbing the Great Wall of China. “We thought about going to Hawaii,” Nic explains. “But then we asked why not go on an adventure?”

rom the sculptural lily centerpieces to the understated but stunning simplicity of the bride’s strapless beaded gown, Ruthie Hagan and Micah Layman enjoyed a truly elegant affair for their New Year’s Eve wedding. The two were instantly struck by the contemporary look of BRIDGES in downtown Memphis, and wedding planner Amy Miller adorned the space with the help of Haute Horticulture and Moonshine Lighting. A unique plum, white, and fresh green color palette was eye-catching and classy within the well-lit space, and was the perfect backdrop for dinner and dancing. A string quartet, Simply Strings, provided elegant music during cocktails and dinner and then eighties cover band Bueller took to the stage, and the guests took to their feet. A sparkler send off was a simple but festive touch for the couple beginning a new year and a new life on the same night.

R

aymond Cabigao and Nicole Samuels are high school sweethearts, and after nine years together, the two had plenty of personal touches and details to incorporate into their wedding ceremony and reception. The traditional Catholic ceremony was personalized with the couples’ choice of music, readings, and prayers. Bridesmaids carried bouquets in each of the bride’s favorite flowers and wore earrings made in the Philippines to represent Raymond’s heritage. Draper’s Catering provided a mix of Southern and Filipino cuisine, including grilled cheese, chicken kabobs, and a grits bar. The groom’s cake, shaped like his Fantasy Football trophy, looked incredibly realistic and was a fun way to show off the groom’s hobby. The fun-loving couple left the reception in a shower of sparklers. “I know I’m biased, but I think we had the best wedding ever,” says Nicole.

enny and Matt Savage wanted nothing more on their wedding day than to share their celebration with all of their closest friends and family. Childhood friends, siblings, roommates and fellow sorority and fraternity brothers and sisters were all part of the wedding party that stood by as the two exchanged their vows. Angela Dacus of Southern Event Planners filled the already impressive Cadre Building with classic arrangements, linens, and lighting in pinks, golds, and champagnes for the lively reception. The couple fed and entertained their crew through danceable tunes by the Soul Shockers and the custom food stations themed to different places that Matt and Jenny had traveled. “We are both blessed to have wonderful families and friends, and were thrilled to share such a special step in our lives with them,” Jenny shares.

“W

hen I thought about what I wanted for my wedding day, I always wanted it to be classic and traditional,” explains bride Delanie Foley. With the help of Amy Miller Weddings and Events, Delanie and her husband Chris Nicosia had a dream wedding, full of stylish takes on traditional elements. Their wedding party was fitted and flattered in a floor-length black gowns and white bouquets for the ladies, and black suits and vests for the groomsmen. A traditional ceremony was stunning with the backdrop of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and the ballroom at the Peabody Hotel was the perfect venue for a reception decked out in white linens and towering floral centerpieces brimming with white roses and tulips by Holliday Flowers. “It ended up being more of a fairy tale then I could have ever expected,” Delaine shares.
