CONTEMPORARY CONTEXTS FOUNDATION DIPLOMA

Course Overview Our intensive one year Foundation programme provides you with a valuable introduction into the fashion industry, allowing you to develop core skills before you specialise in a particular one. This programme is well suited to those looking to progress onto a fashion programme at HND or undergraduate level, especially if you have just left school. This programme offers various practical projects where you will investigate the ideas, materials, processes, and technologies you may be working with in your future studies and profession. The initial stage of the programme allows you to explore and develop essential skills in areas such as research providing you a basis to move into the next stage of learning more specialised skills in the field of fashion. These specialised modules provide an introduction into this diverse and exciting industry.

What You Will Study? The programme will consist of three stages, split over three terms; each stage helping to identify your strengths and interests, preparing you for a creative future in the fashion industry.

Stage 1: Core Modules

Stage 2: Pathway Choice

During the first stage you will be introduced to the key aspects of research and experimentation. You will be shown how to document your research effectively, as the basis of a portfolio, while developing the core technical skills common to all areas.

In the second stage you will take specialist fashion modules, preparing you for the final project stage of the programme. In this stage you will gain a deeper understanding of your subject area through applied creative work, as well as theoretical modules which will build on your base of knowledge from the core modules.

Stage 3: Final Project In the third stage, all your previous work will come together in a final piece of work. Your project will draw on the technical and creative skills that you have been developing throughout the year, and will be presented to your tutor for assessment.

Progression (Guaranteed) Our foundation programme offers unique set of pathways providing you with the basis to progress directly onto a Higher National Diploma or Undergraduate Degree programme in your specialised field of interest. We have an internal progression scheme which guarantees you a place on a HND course at SFD London, provided you have support from your tutor and have successfully passed the programme.

FASHION AND TEXTILES HND

Course Overview The HND in Fashion and Textiles is an exciting and challenging 2 year course for aspiring creative thinkers, and designers to develop their knowledge and skills in the field of fashion and textiles and gain a nationally recognised qualification. You will be studying in one of the most renowned fashion capitals in the world, giving you the chance to draw inspiration from designers and fashion houses whilst preparing to enter this highly creative, dynamic and fast-paced global industry.

Creative Practice PG Dip

Course Overview This Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip) in Creative Practice is a highly specialised and practical programme designed for recent graduates, and offers advancedlevel development opportunities for those who see themselves as future artistic practitioners. The programme is especially suited for individuals looking to progress their creative work and to develop artistic techniques which will enable progression in their field of work. Modules on this programme will include an exploration of contemporary issues in the creative and cultural industries, as well as an investigation into varying research methodologies, and ways to appraise the current market. You will have the opportunity to choose a specific pathway which will support your creative practice. You will be preparing your own project, in the form of a composed and reviewed Portfolio, which is to be a selection of work that you can use in your future career. These modules ensure you acquire the fundamental know-how to manage your own creative work, or businesses.

FASHION DESIGN AND LUxURY MANAGEMENT MSc

Course Overview This master’s programme has been carefully designed to prepare you for one of the most exciting and fastest growing industries in the world; the luxury brands and goods sector. You will be learning and developing key business and management skills required to be successful, providing you with the competitive edge to drive your career forward. The main subject areas of the programme include management and leadership, marketing and operations, and international relations. You will be encouraged to work closely with fellow students, to discuss ideas and benefit from a wealth of experience through shared knowledge. This degree is delivered in partnership with London School of Business and Finance (LSBF) academic faculty and awarded by Grenoble Graduate Business School (GGSB). You will have the opportunity to study in London with study trips to Italy and France.

t SFD London we offer programmes which range from Foundation to Postgraduate Level study. Depending on the course you apply for will depend on how you apply. You will be required to either apply directly to us or through one of our partners.

Application Process If you are applying for a Foundation degree or HND programme you will need to apply directly to SFD London. You will need to submit a completed application form along with supporting documentation. If you are applying for one of the following programmes you will need to fill in an online application form through our partner institution Grenoble Graduate Business School (GGSB). The link can be found on our website, or alternately you can speak to someone in our admissions team who will guide you through the process.

Portfolios Developing a portfolio to showcase your work is an essential part of being an artist. Your portfolio is a way to express yourself as a creative, your interests, ability and personality. We want to see what inspires you and find out more about you as a creative individual. You should have a range of work which demonstrates your particular areas of interest, this maybe in different formats in a range of media. Don’t be over selective, we will assess your potential and take into account what you have achieved so far. Make sure you know your work, so that you can speak clearly about your ideas.

Interviews You may be invited to come for an interview, which gives you the opportunity to show your portfolio of work and ask about the college.
