Personalized Help Point System

To design easy-to-use public transport to improve the experience of people with and without disabilities

Design Brief To develop a personalized help point system and improve the existing TFL help point service by making it less passive and enhancing customer support performance in emergency situations. This includes a wearable device which is integrated with the help points (through applications) to improve journeys on public transport in London.

Wearable Device This allows users to send a request for help automatically or manually to help them in different situations. It also features other functions.

Application Personal help point features linked to a wearable device which improves journeys

Help Point Service To develop the system as a brand and promote the help point service. This will familiarize passengers with the system.

Wearable Device After identifying the design requirements, sketches of the wearable device were produced and cardboard prototyping was undertaken. The final version of the design has been decided and was analyzed by Solidworks. Finally, interviews with prospective users were conducted in order to determine the final design. The interviewees were shown prints of 3D models.

Help Point

Application The requirements of UX/UI were identified using an offering map and a service blue print. The paper wireframe prototype has been created according to the task flow mapping. The new help point identity has been integrated into the final digital prototype and it has been evaluated to confirm that the app is versatile enough (i.e. It can be used in a diverse range of situations).

Safety+ Bicycle Helmet

To improve safety for cyclists by designing a bicycle helmet with a wind power warning light at the rear

Design Brief To create a bicycle helmet which improves the safety of cyclists. This project aims to reduce the risks posed to cyclists by dark conditions. In addition, this project is underpinned by research which examined its usability. It is hoped that this design will create a sustainable solution that uses wind power to produce electricity and light.

Functions To design a helmet backlight that can provide adequate warning to motorists behind cyclists at night

Sustainability To use wind power instead of batteries to produce light

Problem Statement After interviewing helmet retailers it became apparent that the main problem is that cyclists need to install an extra light on helmets with limited options by themselves. Furthermore, the lights get damaged in the rain and changing the battery is inconvenient to riders.

Development Ideas for the bicycle helmet design were sketched to determine the appropriate positioning of the rear light (in terms of protecting the head). After that, a prototype was made to ensure the design and the function of the top fan and warning light could work during a ride.

Two Types Of Tail Light

The first type could help the biker to maintain a continuous tail light through a voltage stabilizer.

With regards to the second type, a flicker function will start to warn the rider when the rotation speed of the air fan goes down.

Shokunin Shovel

To design a multi-purpose shovel that decreases the incidence of occupational hazards and ensures ease of use

This project aimed to develop and design a multi-purpose shovel. Based on market and user research, the design brief was defined to protect the user from occupational hazards during extended periods of use. By adding an extra handle with a calculated angle, a shovel prototype has been made to test realworld usability in various scenarios.

Occupational Disease

Human Factor

To design a shovel that could prevent construction workers from carpal tunnel syndrome, which results from the long term use of shovels.

To create an extra handle which is at an appropriate distance to keep the wrist at the same angle and reduce force.

Detachable Design To develop a more adaptable shovel with a detachable part, which can be positioned according to use purpose.

The handle stabilizes the wrist reducing the risk of injury

Development The angle and distance of the extra handle have been calculated from the human factor point of view. Next, a prototype of the whole shovel has been produced and it has a detachable design. It can also be manufactured at a low cost. Finally, the shovel prototype has been tested to ensure that it can reduce the risk of occupational disease, even after long term use.

Luckeat - Salt & Pepper Set

To design a salt and pepper set that integrates the elements and meaning of bamboo

Design Brief The aim of this project was to display the salt and pepper set in different ways. Therefore, the salt and pepper set has been designed not only about its appearance and function, but also to adapt the Eastern culture for users to experience the Zen spirit while dining.

Bamboo

To challenge how the Eastern culture and element can be added into the salt and pepper set design.

To use Bamboo as a main material and promote the meaning of being promoted continuously.

Zen Experience To consider how users can feel and experience the Eastern symbol without seeing from the actual appearance or material.

Development Card prototypes have been made to experiment with the simplicity symbol of bamboo joint. The shaker can be rotated based on the middle of joint point and the cap would be rose to present the meaning of improvement. The final design has been generated by sketching and prototype modeling to ensure the proper scale for usability. Finally, the model has been built to evaluate the overall design and the rotating action.

Nutrifitment - Dissertation Project

To simplify a vending machine UX/UI to support users’ decision-making during the nutritional drink ordering process

Design Brief Nutrifitment is a brand that offers personalized and customized nutritional drinks which are marketed toward people who want a healthy lifestyle. The overall concept is to develop an innovative vending machine that enables consumers to customize a healthy drink simply according to their preferences and different health requirements.

To deliver and implement a final version of the brand elements into a UX/UI working prototype scenario

To enter the health drink market, identify potential customer needs and simplify the customization process

To develop a mobile app that can be connected to a wearable device. This suggests drinks and facilitates pre-order according to customer data

Development Secondary and primary research has been conducted to ascertain customer behavior and preferences in regard to the customization of nutritional drinks. Brand and marketing strategies have been created to position the concept. These have been factored into the design. The user interface has been developed in accordance with the design requirements. This can be tested and can overcome the challenges of simplifying the customization ordering process.
