THE WOMEN IN HOLLYWOOD: MAKING A CHANGE

HIGH SOARING MILLENNIALS MAGAZINE
In 2017, the Hollywood industry was forever changed. Issues such as sexual assault and gender inequality within the industry were brought to light by a group of actresses and directors who would no longer stay silent. Actresses such as Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Cara Delevingne were a part of the many women who came forward to about sexual misconduct from former media mogul Harvey Weinstein. Their voices led to the creation of the Times Up movement of 2018, which took social media outlets such as Twitter by storm. Times Up movement along with the MeToo movement contributed to
Pinkett Smith, is one of the most recent actresses to speak out against sexual misconduct on her Facebook Watch series, "Red Table Talk." By telling personal experiences of sexual misconduct alongside her daughter Willow Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith is making a change in the industry in her own way. Women in Hollywood made it possible for women in other industries to feel comfortable and unafraid to speak out against those who have done wrong.
many women no longer being afraid to speak their truth.
Academy Awards showed that women would no longer be silenced. During Frances McDormand's acceptance of Best Actress, she asked all female nominees to stand with her in solidarity for gender equality and then told media moguls to pay attention to prospective female talent because they deserve a shot as well in the industry. The 2018 Oscar's also made history when Greta Gerwig, director of the film Ladybird made the 5th woman to be nominated in Academy Award history for Best Director. As for the director, Ava DuVernay, she made history as the first African-American woman to be nominated for Best Director at the 2017 Academy Awards for the film Selma and made a movie gross of $100 million for her magical hit, A Wrinkle in Time! Award show season, especially the Academy Awards, is a time where women spoke for change in the industry and make history.
2017 was also the year that gender inequality within the industry was brought to attention. The lack of female directors, cinematographers, and assistants in the movie studios have a detrimental effect on the portrayal of women in movies. Directors such as Patty Jenkins, Ava DuVernay, and Greta Gerwig set to change to the lack of female representation within movies, by directing movies such as Wonder Woman, Selma, and Ladybird. These movies were well-received by audiences and critics for showing women as strong individuals instead of stereotypes and making history for these female directors. Women in the Hollywood industry with the help of social media are bringing Hollywood into the new millennium. The sexual assault and harassment allegations towards Harvey Weinstein has caused the 'Weinstein effect' to transcend industries. The Weinstein effect made it possible for women who were once sexually assaulted or harassed by powerful men in the industry to finally speak out against them. Men such as journalist Matt Lauer, actor Kevin Spacey, and comedian Louis C.K. projects were canceled due to allegations of sexual harassment or assault. Actress, Jada
Gender inequality in the Hollywood industry both behind the scenes and in front of the camera has not gone unnoticed. The 2018
Although the heart of this change has been women in the Hollywood industry, everyday women are also advocating change in the industry. Ashley Giacomelli, a junior at Temple University, wants the Hollywood films to have more all-female cast and films focusing on independent women. "Seeing an all-female cast in a film is extremely empowering. I have seen countless films that a male dominant cast that was well done, I know for sure that
it can be an all-female cast. I would also like to see more independent female films, instead of the basic love story ones. Not every woman is looking for a man or is trying to get over one, so films should show that." Women in Hollywood, both those who are seen and unseen voices, are definitely being heard. Social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and lnstagram have helped these women have their voices heard for millions to see and hear to force a change in Hollywood and other industries. It has also led to the question 'what's next?' for the Hollywood industry for women. Maya Rai,
a sophomore at Loyola Marymount University, wants to see more South Asian representation in films. "As a South Asian woman, the lack of representation in Hollywood films is quite sad. I can count how many actresses in Hollywood who are of South Asian descent on one hand and if they are seen in films they are portrayed as negative stereotypes. This is one major thing that needs to change." Living in the social media age has led to men and women to join the movement towards equality and justice in today's society making it easier to speak up and stand up because the time is up.

Here are some insights on how to grow a business that will help in becoming successful and will be essential through the journey as a business owner. Sometimes hitting rock bottom can be a blessing in disguise. Bitchin won't fix it. Necole Kane famously known as Necole Bitchie who had the top growing urban blog for celebrity gossip 2015; walked completely away from a platform she built from the ground up. She was at the height of her career, but in reality, was at the bottom of the barrel. Necole loss both of her parents two years before that, she lived with her aunt briefly in Maryland and was then booted to the curve due to suspected internet playing and wasting time. Kane tells us that she was "unhappy and unhealthy for a period of time but was in the midst of transitioning to the branding of, Necole Kane." Necole Kane is CEO/ Editor in Chief of xonecole.com which is a multi dimensional lifestyle website. She is phenomenal, inspirational, and women's advocate for mental health, wellness, relationships and so much more. Her
positive and inspirational approach has made her platform valuable and expandable. William Packer, a film producer who had a smashing movie in 2017 called Girls Trip; which is every girl's dream is to completely break free, be herself and live life to the fullest, had acquired xoNecole.com just this past year! We would say Necole is soaring high as this will be a financial boost for her business and lifestyle. Becoming successful comes from others who believe in you that will invest in you, but ultimately believing and investing in yourself comes first. Will Packer Media seems to want to target a millennial lifestyle brand which Necole brings every ounce of that. Brand Queen! Kane knew how to brand herself early on in her career which a lot of people struggle with. I get a sense that she had true passion and faith in herself.
She believed her plan would work before even knowing how it would. With little to no money she simply used her gift (talents) and baby steps which led her to places she never dreamed of. It's also important to appreciate the help around you and always give back. The beautiful, motivated soul of this wise woman has opened a door for millennials by showing that breaking down walls, barriers, and giving all or nothing is magic within itself. We must never give up on ourselves and believe in our vision. As women, life may get us down, but it is important that we pick ourselves back up and keep it moving! A businesswoman can face many challenges building and maintaining her brand. Many women wonder where to even start!? How to get it going!? And most importantly how to stay above water.

Women and Travel Blogging

Traveling the world is an exciting adventure. In the modern age we’ve become accustomed to recording our experiences. Some of the best mediums include YouTube channels, vlogs, and journals. We can relive our journeys and share them with complete strangers. Sounds fun right? How does one get into travel blogging? One doesn’t have to look far for word processing sites. The most popular are Blogger or WordPress. Both of which give you complete control to design your website. They allow you to customize your blog, making each website embody the spirit of the traveler. Being a woman blogger does differ in ways

Where men feel safe to take risks in dress and excursions, women must be conscientious with clothing choice and recreation for overall safety. Destinations such as India, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia can be tough destinations for women. It is wise to show as little skin as possible and to be mindful of one’s behavior. Due to this, women bloggers usually include safety tips and cultural appropriation in
the sentimental with the tangible. The results are pieces of writing that move with a sense of heartfelt experience. This isn’t to say men are bad at fleshing such emotions, it’s just that women have a knack for saying the right words to truly give you a sense of place. Travel blogging is a perfect way to document one’s experiences. Why don’t more women blog? Well that question relays to men and women. Perhaps, individuals don’t think they have the skills to be a
“good” writer. They could possibly believe they don’t have anything to say, or everything they wish to say, another has already published. This is never the case. No one could possibly have the same travel experience as another. Travel writing doesn’t have to be for an audience, it can just be a media journal of sorts. Being fearful of writing well is often a concern for early writers. Don’t fret it, writing should be for you. If you can tell a story, you can write. Blogging is another way to evaluate one’s experiences. Looking back at disappointments, surprises and epiphanies are best through writing. You can slow down, relive the snapshot, and extract what makes it meaningful. Travel blogging for women isn’t just writing a diary about all the places you’ve been. It’s about meeting yourself, seeing where you’ve been and how it’s shaping where you’re going. It’s about finding your place in the world and having a dialogue with yourself. So, try it, you’ve got the world at your fingertips.

Writer and Director Brad Bird (who returned for the long-awaited sequel) blends the family life, super-hero life, and plain old craziness that this family endures perfectly. Have you ever watched the alluring dance moves of Chris Brown, Taylor Swift, and Tyga and wondered who was the individual who taught them? The name behind the choreography is Matt Steffanina and if you haven't checked out his social media or YouTube channel, do it now because he is a true genius when it comes to keeping the eye of the watcher on the moves of the performer. Before his fame in the world of dance, Steffanina started swaying at 18 under the name of bboy in talent competitions of his local town of Virginia. It was no surprise that he won using his interest of Hip Hop to inspire his movements. News about his talent spread fast throughout the community and he was soon offered a job as the head choreographer for a Hip Hop dance crew at the University of Virginia. Dancing is a challenge for the mind and the body, but Steffanina is aware of those who have two left feet or lacking in confidence. In the studio, he creates a live, energetic and inviting atmosphere that would attract any newbie in the dance game. As his career was starting to take off, Steffanina decided to tackle bigger challenges outside of his community and traveled with his crew to the east coast to teach as well as compete for a couple of years. He instantly grabbed the attention of viewers and ultimately snagged a spot in the limelight of television. Steffanina performed on the popular dance show So You Think You Can Dance and was hired as a choreographer for commercials overseas. His passion for dancing was not only impacting his life; it connected to the lives of other likeminded individuals looking for a way to express themselves though prevailing body movements. Steffanina became mindful of the shared desire between him and his followers and went for another challenge, to teach the world how to dance. He stepped into the digital world and began recording live tutorials from his studio located in Los Angeles, California. His YouTube and social media accounts became the go to place for aspiring dancers, generating over eight million views and over 700,000 subscribers. In 2012 he created live dance tutorials with a mission to make online classes accessible to those who aren't located near his studio or don't have the financial support. This dancer's got heart and deserves much praise for making a complicating activity accomplishable. Steffanina is still teaching weekly hip hop classes to everyone of all ages, shapes and sizes, onsite and online. Anyone can dance, and this is the guy who can definitely teach you how. His lessons start from beginner to intermediate, where he moves slow and gives clear instructions so the student could grasp each turn of the hips and wave of hands. The videos are no longer than twenty to forty minutes, afterward they move onto a group session where the viewer is taken to his studio with fellow dancers and the music for the taught choreographs.
