Introduction The Spark Arts for Children have really enjoyed working with Caldecote Community Primary School and it is our great pleasure to present to you our My City publication. This is a collection of some of the poems that have been created by very talented children in your school. The children, who worked with Joseph Coelho, have explored the parks and playgrounds of Leicester, labeled trees with post-it note similes, found poems for the statues dotted around the city and discovered poems beating in their hearts. We have seen some fantastic, confident performances and read some creatively genius poems, all inspired by the children’s own experiences and all with Leicester at their heart. We hope you enjoy reading this collection of work. Why not write your own poem too‌.?

My Journey to School First I jump out of my front door and go past the drunken pub then I go to the bus stop. We get in to town and then I go past the fast food island and I go past my brothers lamppost where my brother is buried and get to school the school of Spook. After that I drag myself to the dreadful classroom. Grace Green

Thomas Cook He invented travelling on a train so under that shiny baldhead there’s a big brain. He looked so organised but what came out of his mouth was always lies. He really was ugly and just like a porcupine he wasn’t cuddly. He looked like a man who loved to roll around in dirt but just imagine him in a pink skirt. He looked very posh and smart but he looks like a man who loves to fart. Most people think he’s a great man but if he met me then he’d know I”M NOT A FAN! Mackenzie Jones Bannister

Food for School A jump of beans, a lump of milk, a splat of pizza, a smell of cheese, a spit of gravy, curry, a spat of meat. Bobby Keeling
Joe Joe is always sucking his big toe, and he has massive black hair he wears massive boots! Frazer Brown

If I made an invention like Thomas Cook If I made an invention like Thomas Cook I would create a supersonic truck, or maybe a never-ending book, and invent infinite good luck. If I made an invention like Thomas Cook I would create a talking duck I will also create un-dirtry muck or will I create a cook like our school tuck. If I made an invention like Thomas Cook.

I have a pet armadillo I have a pet armadillo as cute as a hamster. Eyes as black as space. Eyes as wide as the moon. A shell as smooth as a plank of wood. The shell is as brown as toffee. He is so adorable but one day he whipped me with his tail! Its tail is as scaly as a snake. Claws as sharp as a grizzly bears. Eyes that watch you like a hawk. He is so horrible and violent. Logan Hinds

My Journey On my journey to school I see my creepy house as I stroll across the path we approach‌ my boring cousins house. Then we travel round the bend to the Braunstone Park with the purple gloomy pond. Then we zoom down the never ending roundabout. We find ourselves at the haunted Braunstone Hall. We waddle down the zig zag road near the haunted bungalows. Which have smelly toes. Then the Co-op with the sweets that go pop. Finally the last stop. Caldecote Community Primary School which eats you for six hours and spits you out because it doesn’t like the taste. Ellice Skeemer

If all of Leicester was candy If all of Leicester was candy Braunstone Park would be lollipops so if you are hungry you can have something to eat. If all of Leicester was candy Caldecote Primary School would be Haribos. If all of Leicester was candy Fosse Park would be Skittles to make a rainbow when it is not sunny. If all of Leicester was candy the New Walk Museum would be popping candy to make everything sweet. If all of Leicester was candy the King Power Stadium would be gob stoppers to use as footballs.

On my way, I saw On my way, I saw, a burnt car on the road hard and rough standing in the middle, then I went to find something else in Braunstone On my way, I saw, a dead squirrel on the road it was smelly and lying on the floor, then I went off again to find something again in Braunstone On my way, I saw‌ a police station for criminals to go to jail in to tell police that you found something. Then I go to school all happy and excited. Siobhan Gent

Sausages That moment when Mom calls out “Sausages”, That irresistible smell drifting through the air Sausages are on the table… Sizzling on the plate. That moment when your family settles down. The sausages are in danger! Freshly barbecued and fried. Oh!! the lovely sausages!!! Abdi-Rahman Sheikh-Nur

If all of Leicester was made of glass‌ If Leicester was made of glass Braunstone Park would be made out of cups. If Leicester was made of glass you could crash through Highcross. If Leicester was made of glass the children would mind read the see-through teachers for answers. If Leicester was made of glass King Power Stadium would have contact lenses. Zumra Pala

The Seamstress The seamstress looks busy because she is making socks and stockings. I think she wears a red dress - ooo la la as red as blood and a pink shawl as soft as a feather - fancy. She is twenty nine years old as she looks quite young. She is famous like David Cameron. Saturdays stressed sewers sew socks. She sews and sews for days and days without taking a break. Sewing socks and stockings are her hobby and she is quite snobby. It’s the seamstress. Zumra Pala and Jasmin Dave
