WELCOME Welcome to another fantastic season of home grown theatre, vibrant visiting work from across the UK and performances by some of Hull’s most exciting artists.
audience and we’d be thrilled to see you there lending your encouragement and support for future talent grown from the region.
This season we are delighted to showcase the talents of our Artistic Associate Amanda Huxtable who is part of the Arts Council England’s Change Makers programme to support the development of black, minority ethnic and disabled cultural leaders. Her keynote production of Mike Leigh’s classic Abigail’s Party forms the centerpiece of our producing work this season and continues our commitment to telling stories in a way that reflects the diversity of a modern Britain.
Alongside our regular family Christmas production of Oliver Twist adapted by Deborah McAndrew who wrote last year’s hugely successful production of A Christmas Carol, we are thrilled to be embarking on a new initiative with Hull Truck Theatre supported artists, The Herd in a brand-new co-production of The Ugly Duckling – Christmas Special. We are extremely proud to support Hull’s independent artists and along with our artist development opportunities through the Grow programme and numerous participation opportunities through the creative learning team. This new show for early years audiences and their families is further testament to our passion for making theatre that is inclusive and representative of all.
Providing opportunity to grow people and ideas is fundamental to who we are as a theatre. For the past year we have been working with our friends at Live Theatre in Newcastle and Derby Theatre to support the development of young actors through the Regional Young Actors Ensemble. I’m delighted to announce that the current cohort will be showcasing their talents here at Hull Truck Theatre at the end of September where they will have the opportunity to perform in front of industry professionals alongside our regular

COMEDY
Welcome to suburban Britain in 1977. Beverly and Laurence have invited their neighbours Angela and Tony, and Sue, round to their house for a party.
DANCE
CIRCUS
Except it’s not really a party, it’s drinks, nibbles and snobby comments as Beverly tries to be a model of middle class behaviour and taste. Whilst the cheese and pineapple sticks are circulated and awkward pauses are filled with sneaky cigarettes, the real party is happening back at Sue’s house, where her teenage daughter Abigail and her mates are having the time of their lives.
EVENT
As the teenagers’ punky reggae party filters in from outside, the cracks begin to show back at Beverly’s. For all their fancy things, she and Laurence can barely hide their dislike of each other, and hard-working, upwardly mobile Angela and Tony are struggling with the mortgage. Mike Leigh's comedy masterpiece has been a hit on stage and television. Directed by Amanda Huxtable this production looks at what can happen when we forget to be true to ourselves.
Abigail’s Party is part of the Change Makers programme, funded by Arts Council England to support the development of Black, minority ethnic and disabled cultural leaders.

Tracey says: “My life has always had culture firmly cemented at its foundations. However, some young people don’t have access to it, so the Supporting Cast scheme is a great way to get them involved as audience members or even artists. Theatre plays a major role in building confidence, developing communication skills and expressing thoughts and feelings. With modern life being so polarised and technical, escapism is very important and the theatre offers this in a variety of ways. It can be so full of energy, momentary yet unforgettable, and different every time; it’s something you can immerse yourself in for a couple of hours, put your own interpretation on, and then discuss with friends afterwards. I strongly recommend joining Hull Truck Theatre’s Supporting Cast, as it could make a world of difference to a local child.”
JOIN OUR SUPPORTING CAST £5 £10 £20
£5 a month will help six disadvantaged young people from across Hull to see our Christmas show. £10 a month will help us to offer on-the-job training to the next generation of theatre technicians from across the city. £20 a month will help us to nurture up-and-coming local artists through our Supported Artist scheme.
We’re also part of the Catalyst: Evolve programme, which means that every pound you give is matched by Arts Council England. Meanwhile, people who qualify for Gift Aid can add it to their donation, further increasing the amount that we receive.
If you’d like to help Hull Truck Theatre through a monthly donation, please get in touch with Davide Calogero, Director of Development: T: 01482 488294 E: development@hulltruck.co.uk. hulltruck.co.uk
