WELCOME

We’re delighted to present a thrilling line-up for our Autumn/ Winter season.

You can look forward to several Hull Truck Theatre productions, alongside a variety of exciting visiting work.

Get ready to dance the night away with a brand-new production of the brilliant comedydrama Pop Music by Anna Jordan. This highenergy show will be performed in ‘the round,’ creating an engaging immersive experience with an eclectic mix of floor fillers, providing the perfect soundtrack for a feel-good night out.

At Christmas time, in Stage One we will be producing the world premiere of our new adaptation of the classic story, Pinocchio. Brought magically to life by writer Mike Kenny with original songs and music by John Biddle, the show is sure to thrill and captivate audiences of all ages.

In the Godber Studio we have Princess and The Frog, written and directed by Tom Saunders. Designed for our younger audience members and their families, this charming production promises to provide a joyful festive experience that will leave a smile on everyone’s faces.

Looking further ahead, we are thrilled to be producing a powerful new production of George Orwell’s famous novel Animal Farm, in co-production with our partners the Octagon Theatre Bolton and Derby Theatre.

We’re excited to welcome the international work presented in partnership with Freedom Festival Arts Trust, featuring the talented Dutch company Via Berlin. Be among the first to catch a glimpse of a new show in development by renowned musician Martin Green and celebrated director, Emma Rice.

We’re also proud to continue our collaborations with regular partners Hull Jazz and Hull Comedy Festival. Drama fans are encouraged to look out for new work by the John Godber Company, and an exciting line-up of music, magic, comedy, and contemporary drama will feature in Stage One and the Godber Studio theatre.

We remain committed to ensuring that the theatre is accessible and affordable for all, and we have several entry level tickets available for Hull Truck Theatre productions – including Pay What You Can and Preview performances. Since 2019 we have endeavoured to freeze ticket prices, but standstill funding and the rising costs affecting every business and industry sector have left us no option but to make a modest increase this season. We have however worked hard to keep this to a maximum increase of £1 per ticket on Hull Truck Theatre productions

We believe in the power of live performance to entertain, inspire, and connect. Join us this season for an unforgettable journey, filled with laughter, music and magic.

MUSIC BY JOHN BIDDLE

DIRECTED BY MARK BABYCH

When hard-up lonely carpenter Gepetto carves his very own puppet, he gets more than he bargained for. The magical blue spirit turns his beautiful wooden creation, Pinocchio, into something he always longed for, a child to call his own.

Keen for Pinocchio to fit in and make friends, Gepetto sends them to school… but Pinocchio has other ideas!

Meeting a whole host of shady characters on their travels, Pinocchio, with the help of the Cricket, must try to be brave, truthful and selfless as they navigate the joys and dangers of the world, learning the hard way about consequences on their journey to becoming real.

Join Pinocchio on the adventure of a lifetime in this heart-warming and fantastical tale about coming-of-age, loyalty, hardship, redemption and unconditional love.

Mike Kenny (The Railway Children) has re-imagined this much-loved classic family favourite alongside composer and co-lyricist John Biddle (A Christmas Carol, Peter Pan) to include original songs that have become a much-loved part of Hull Truck Theatre’s Christmas show. BOLTON & DERBY THEATRE PRESENTS ANIMAL

FARM

BASED ON THE NOVEL BY GEORGE ORWELL ADAPTED FOR THE STAGE BY IAN WOOLDRIDGE

A POWERFUL RE-TELLING OF GEORGE ORWELL’S CHILLING AND TIMELESS CLASSIC.

When the downtrodden animals of Manor Farm overthrow their master and take over, they imagine it is the beginning of a life of freedom and equality for all. However, over time a cunning and brutal elite among them, masterminded by the pigs Napoleon and Snowball, gradually take control. Soon the other animals discover that they are not all as equal as they once thought and find themselves ensnared as one tyranny is replaced with another.

Orwell’s enduring and devastating satire about the corruption of power will be brought vividly to life on stage in this compelling drama.

We believe in the power of theatre and creativity to change lives. That’s why we want to welcome the widest possible audience to enjoy our work. Every year we try to remove barriers that might prevent someone from coming to the theatre.

“Each year Hull Truck Theatre is able to provide us with hundreds of tickets that we then give to children living in foster care and schools in areas of disadvantage. These children have never been to the theatre before and it’s an incredible opportunity for them. A person who visits the theatre as a child is twice as likely to return as an adult, so this programme really does give children the gift of theatre for life.”

Rose James, CEO, Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University

We’re so grateful to all our donors and partners whose generosity and valuable support make this possible.

For our Spotlight Partners a commitment to the community and great theatre makes good business sense.

“UNITE aims to promote equality and fairness for all and are pleased to share these same values with Hull Truck Theatre; one of the city’s most important, cultural venues.”

Keith Nicholson, Unite the Union

Our continuing association with Hull Truck Theatre allows us the opportunity to show our gratitude to the local community for their support of Humberside Airport.”
