The Alaka‘i Nalu, or “Leaders of the Waves” are Hualālai’s ocean ambassadors. Expert watermen and women, they provide a water sports experience that shares their love and knowledge of the water and ocean life that surrounds the Resort. Alaka‘i Nalu hearkens back to the Hawai‘i of the 30’s and 40’s, when beach boys were respected, fun loving stewards of the ocean.
Optimal ocean conditions for all ocean activities is between 7am-11am daily. Scheduling ocean activities during these morning hours allows for the best chance to enjoy your time in the water.

Activities and Programs
Ribcraft Boat Adventure
Explore secluded beaches and secret snorkel spots, watch a manta ray glide through the water, or you might even come face-to-face with a green sea turtle. 14 passengers maximum
Add On Activities:
• Scooter Snorkel/Seabob
• Subwings - water wing pulled behind the boat for a “flying” underwater experience
• Banana Bus - infltable tube pulled behind the boat (holds 10 passengers)
• Foil Board Surfing - hydrofoil attached, versus a fin, that allows the surboard to fly above the water, following the Ribcraft or being pulled 2 hour minimum
Stand Up Paddling
Enjoy this popular sport in crystal clear ocean waters! Come SUP paddle in the morning hours and glide over the sea life below. Includes unlimited use (during operation hours) during your stay at the Resort. Lessons provided if needed at no additional cost. Beginner to advanced boards available. Minimum age of 12
1-Person Outrigger Canoe Lesson
Our Alaka‘ i will teach you the basics of paddling and steering a small outrigger canoe. Once you’re comfortable, you can enjoy unlimited access (during operation hours) during your stay. Also available is a one-hour guided 1 on 1 training paddle with one of our Alaka‘ i. Lesson is 30-45 minutes, minimum age of 12
4-Person and 6-Person Hawaiian Outrigger Canoes Guided Canoe Tours.
Our Alaka‘ i steersman will lead you on a signature Hualālai experience. Explore the Ka‘ūpūlehu coast just as Hawaiian Ali‘i (chiefs) did in ancient times. Great adventure for the whole family.
Scooter Snorkel
Come try one of our most popular guided morning activities. Skim the surface or effortlessly free dive to view the marine life and reef up close. Cruise along at 3 mph on a Snorkel Scooter or zip through the ocean at up to 12 mph on a Seabob. 1 hour, minimum age of 12

Onewheel Turf Surf
Enjoy an experience unique to the Resort! Join one of the Alaka‘i crew to “carve” the golf course on a Onewheel board. It’s a mixture of surfing and snowboarding, but on an award winning golf course with expansive ocean views. For the adventurous and athletic only. Only available in the morning, 1 hour, minimum age of 12
Snorkeling
Take advantage of our complimentary snorkel gear, including prescription masks, to explore the world under the surface of the water. Hover above vibrant coral view a kaleidoscope of fish just a short swim from the shore. Ideal snorkel conditions are from 7:00-10:00am.

We highly recommend booking your reservations twenty-four (24) hours in advance by calling (808) 325-8490 (in-house, dial 8490).
Ocean Activity Courtesies
Please meet for activities at the Hualālai Canoe Club. If requesting transportation, pick up is from the Resort’s lobby entrance.

Racing Outrigger Canoes
If you must reschedule or cancel an appointment, please let us know four (4) hours in advance to avoid being charged in full. Cancellation of an activity is possible when ocean conditions are deemed unsafe by the Alaka‘i Nalu. If rescheduling is not possible, no charge will apply. Please note that services, hours and prices may be subject to change with or without notification.
Ocean Safety
For your child’s safety, please check with the Alaka‘i Nalu for the minimum age on any activity. For your safety and enjoyment, please discuss the minimum skill level required for any activity with the Alaka‘i Nalu. Always ask the Alaka‘i Nalu about any potential hazards, boundaries, and ocean conditions before entering the water.

Gratuities
Gratuities in appreciation for excellent service are welcome and are at your discretion. The general recommended amount is 20% of your final invoice.
