Play, learn, know

The first project of Huasipichanga was held in Shaglli, a rural community in the south of Ecuador. The idea was to dialogue with the community to identify an issue and a possible solution to develop it together.

Where? Shaggli

The community, agreed that Shaglli has unique spaces for tourism.

And they also agreed that they had two main problems:

1. The youth was migrating to the city because they saw no value in staying.

2. The children had no place to play.

Before

On our first visit, we make the diagnosis by exploring and recognition of space, meetings with authorities and dialogue with the population to generate a participatory and inclusive project.

The playground of the school was abandoned.

We agreed on working with the youth, especially children to build together a playground. Where every game would represent one important touristic spot on the region. So the children would see value on the local potential.

We worked with the community to change the place

Every game was related to an important tourist spot of the region.

Kids enjoying the spaces they made with us!

All material was recycled and provided by the community.

Spaces bring people together

Join the green

Stop and play

Thinking about the goal, following our guidelines and considering the few resources that were available for the project, the key point was to target recycling and self-management.

Simple materials - Strong connections

Less cars - More people

P_03 Panpa Tukuyninpa

An architectural workshop that brought together students from Latin America to design and build public spaces in 10 days.

Where? Bolivia!

Before

A space used mainly by children

The space chosen for our activities was behind the school, which brought a lot of children around. However, it had no shadow or places to sit. It was basically an empty plot. The students decided to build two squares (plazas).

We started working on the spot, with amazing views.

Long beautiful days of work/

Children were always around, so they became the “guardians of the plazas” and they also had the idea of creating a third square which they designed and built by replicating what the participants were doing on the other spaces.

The children with their own creativity, taking techniques and forms of the plazas designed by the participants of the Social Workshop, managed to form the third square. Totally motivated they managed to structure a system of squares that surround the cemetery and in record time they captured ideas that for the participants had taken several days. The parents of the children surprised by the interest of their kids and guided by their example, decided to collaborate in a greater way to the project, counting the fifth and final day of work with more participants and their help; consequently the people rose from their common passive state to an active motivator.

The community gathered to inaugurate their new spaces.

P_04 ESCALINATAS

Where? Cuenca, Ecuador

The "Escalinatas" is the connection from the old and the new center of Cuenca.

People go up and down everyday in the rush of their work routine.

Although it has a privileged location it can become boring and empty.

We decided to change it for a day!
