“I knew Younes Hospitality would have the perfect place for our reception. Their staff was so accommodating and had great ideas for creating just the look that we wanted. And, the food was incredible! But the nicest part was, at the end of the night, our guests just went upstairs to their rooms. Thanks to Younes Hospitality, our reception was a dream come true.

rends in 2011 Weddings Vintage touches

One of the top wedding trends for the upcoming year is vintage and retroinspired with a modern twist. Beautiful textures and ornate details will abound, set in natural surroundings and buildings with a historical feel. Present your guests with party favors from historical brands, wear your mother or grandmother’s wedding dress, and incorporate your parents’ or grandparents’ wedding pictures into the décor. Creating an atmosphere of nostalgic romance is very, very trendy these days. Photography is going to take a vintage spin, with draped textiles as backgrounds for photographing the happy couple and their guests in a relaxed setting.

In 2011, we’ll continue to see more green, environmentally friendly weddings. Think second-hand and vintage wedding dresses, LED lighting, recycled paper invitations and programs, and food from local farms and providers. Charity donations will continue to be a popular option instead of traditional wedding gifts, as more couples marry later in life and already have more than enough toasters and crockpots to fill their new home.

Do it yourself The DIY concept – Do It Yourself – is definitely here to stay and it’s one of the biggest 2011 wedding trends, not only from an economical point of view, but also because there isn’t anything more special than incorporating handmade elements – made by the bride and the groom – into the wedding. Invitations, decorations, flowers, and garters are just a few places that the bride and groom can really make the day their own.

Social media influences We’ll also continue to see social media play a part in the wedding planning process. Couples will keep guests informed through wedding websites and post updates about their excitement and plans on Facebook and Twitter. Posts such as “We booked the band today!” allow friends and family to feel like they are part of the planning.

Simple but quality menus and food Just as weddings in general are going to be simple and pretty in 2011, so should the menu. Traditional food presented in a very modern way or with a touch of originality is the way to go. Serving lemonade, sangria, colorful teas, or herbinfused water is definitely a very pretty way to add inexpensive charm to your table.

Rustic wedding cakes Wedding cakes will continue to be tall and elegant, but with a touch of rustic-chic, where fondant is replaced by a delicious butter cream and large sugar flowers are substituted by natural flowers, sugar glazed fruit or just fun details. The wedding cake table is a huge trend: it should be beautiful and a highlight at the reception venue.

Outdoor weddings The weather is hard to predict, but outdoor weddings are a huge trend for 2011 because a party in the outdoors is different, fun and relaxing. If it’s possible to make yours an outdoor wedding, than do it! However, it’s very important that you have a plan B, just in case it decides to rain.

Spring trends Both color schemes and fashion seem to be upbeat and optimistic for spring. Spring is a renewing time in nature; a spring wedding is a new beginning for a bride and groom. Brides are stepping back to the fairy tale white dresses after several seasons of more serious champagne and ivory designs. Vera Wang is one of the top designers for dresses for spring brides as she tends to be trendy and upbeat in her designs.

Wedding themes Currently, the top wedding themes are • beach • garden • winter wonderland • vintage glamour • woodland/rustic and • Tiffany Blue with sparkling diamonds. Destination and ethnic-influenced celebrations also remain popular choices

Wedding bouquets

Hot color trend

Ninety five percent of wedding bouquets are now hand-tied, where longARTISANS PHOTOGRAPHY stemmed flowers are gathered together and the stems are wrapped in satin ribbon. Brides of 2011 wanting more glamorous bouquets will be choosing beads, brooches, jewel pins, pearls, crystals and rhinestone picks to dress up plain ribbon-wrapped stems and blooms. Brides wanting a more rustic and natural look to their bouquet add elements such as shells/starfish, feathers, berries and pinecones. While the rose continues to be the most popular bouquet flower, lilies, peonies, hydrangeas, tulips and orchids represent the trendier choices. Arrangements with a just-picked and looser casual look have replaced the more tightly-bound bouquet shapes of previous years and bold flower colors will continue in popularity.

Silver and pink are hot trends for the 2011 wedding season. Layered fabrics in monochromatic color scheme can create a visually stimulating scene at the dinner or at the church. Brides may choose a white dress with pink or silver accent if she really wants to embrace this trend. Or a bride may wear a traditional white dress, adding metallic silver or pink sandals and earrings with pink accents. Adding silver accents to the bridesmaids’ pink dresses or flowers can really help wrap up this trendy look.

Brides and grooms have a few options when it comes to the music played at their ceremony and reception. Live musicians or deejays are often the entertainment of choice. When hiring the entertainment, there are some important things to keep in mind. The music of the wedding will set the tone for the event and keep guests entertained during key moments of the day. Musicians will often work in conjunction with a maitre d' to be sure the reception moves along smoothly and sticks to the schedule. Music will be played while guests are dining and when there are opportunities for dancing. It's essential to listen to musicians or dee-

jays before hiring anyone to ensure what they're offering will fit in with the wedding. Also, it's helpful to confirm the person or people being auditioned will be the exact individuals at the wedding.

In most cases, wedding musicians are professionals who have handled many weddings and are very accustomed to what should be done to make the night a memorable one.

Provide the musical entertainment with some information to further help the wedding go off without a hitch. This may include but not be limited to the following: • Names of all wedding party participants so they can be properly introduced. • Name of the married couple, including pronunciation of the last name, if necessary. • The title of the couple's song. • The titles of songs to be danced with mother/son or father/daughter. • Whether a bouquet and garter toss will take place, and which songs should be played during these traditions.

enues Home

If your goal is to have an intimate, personalized affair, you can't do much better than hosting the event at your family's home. With no required caterer or stock decorations, you'll have the chance to make everything feel homespun and personalized. And with friends and family pitching in, labor will be minimized. But be careful: hosting a lavish affair at home can cost more than the same event at a five-star hotel since the list of rentals will be long: linens, silverware, barware, tables, chairs, a dance floor, generators, speakers, and portable toilets (at least one for every 50 guests). You may also want to get a professional landscaper to fill uneven ground or plant grass - and hiring a skilled wedding planner is a must.

Private Event Spaces Venues like historic mansions, country clubs, and university facilities typically host just one function at a time, so you and your guests will have the entire place to your10

selves, and your vendors will have more flexibility when it comes to setup and breakdown times. And at the majority of these locations, you'll find stunning interiors, which will add elegance and minimize the cost of décor. But be careful: in the case of historic mansions and estates, there may be strict rules about what parts of the house can and can't be used, noise levels, and moving any décor or artwork. Private event spaces can also be on the pricier side, thanks to on-site liquor licenses, rental fees, and security deposits.

Lofts & Raw Spaces Good news: For ambitious, creative couples, an undecorated, open space—whether it's a converted warehouse, a photography studio, or a barn— allows you to have exactly what you want, from décor to vendors. You'll be able to customize the menu to your heart's desire, and no liquor license means you can choose what you serve. Because these types of venues tend to be located

off the beaten path, you can play your music as loud as you want. But be careful: with a blank slate, there's no getting around the cost of rentals and lighting. Are there enough bathrooms? Does it have working heating or AC? And with remote locations and nondescript buildings, you'll have to be extra vigilant about making sure guests know where they're going.

Outdoor Good news: It doesn't get much more magical or romantic than a wedding outdoors, whether it's in a garden or a vineyard, or on a beach. The unstructured space allows you to style your event as elegantly or informally as you'd like. Public parks and beaches can also be a bargain—Mother Nature does the decorating. But be careful: The biggest downside to an outdoor wedding is the unpredictability of nature. You'll have to be willing to embrace the element of surprise and have a contingency plan at the ready. In case of rain, you'll need either a backup indoor location or a tent, which can cost around $2,000. You'll also have to anticipate wind, heat, insects, allergies, mud, strict noise ordinances and curfews, and expect a labor intensive setup: everything will need to be brought in and out.

Museums & Public Locations Good news: An iconic cultural institution, like a public library or an art gallery, makes your event a once-ina-lifetime experience guaranteed to impress. Plus, rooms filled with masterpieces and grand architecture have built-in character, so little decorating will be necessary. Public venues are centrally located and the exhibits will provide a great icebreaker for mingling guests. But be careful: Rental fees

for a four-hour reception can be steep. And you'll also need to pay for security and liability insurance and your vendors will not be allowed access to the space until it closes to the public, meaning they may charge more to do the job quickly. A long list of strict regulations will likely be in effect regarding decorations, required vendors, accessible areas, and possibly even flash photography or liquids that can stain, like red wine.

Pretty much everything is already in place, including catering, baking, staff, china, booze, and linens. You'll be able to negotiate better deals and extras, like a wedding-night suite, valet parking, an after-party room, and guest-room blocks. And superlative service is to be expected.

Hotel Ballrooms Good news: As with banquet halls, the everything-under-one-roof convenience of hotels is a huge draw.

for your groomsmen

When it comes to planning a wedding, grooms often take a backseat to their blushing brides. While men no longer serve a strictly spectator role when it comes to planning a wedding, much of the ins and outs of the wedding remain the bride's domain. One area where men maintain complete control is gifting the groomsmen. A tradition that dates back decades if not centuries, gifting the groomsmen is the groom's way of showing his appreciation to those frequently overlooked but trusted friends who stand by his side on his wedding day. Understandably, many of today's grooms are working with budgets smaller than they might have been in years past.

Hit a homerun Seemingly since the beginning of time, men have bonded over sports. Be it football, baseball, hockey, or hoops, grooms can find sports-specific gifts their groomsmen will love. Personalized sports gifts from their favorite MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, and even NCAA teams to make the gift feel special. Be it a personalized locker room print, a stainless steel hip flask or a stadium fan framed print, grooms have a host of choices under $50 that won't break the bank but groomsmen will be proud to display

every time they turn on the big game.

Stock the bar No man cave is complete without a fully stocked bar, and grooms can help their groomsmen transform their basement into a Mecca of man caves with a carefully chosen gift that's sure to prove a proud addition to their groomsmen's home bar. Grooms can choose a personalized Pewter Medallion Glass Mug that says Best Man, Groomsmen or Usher and personalize each mug with up to two lines. For the groomsman who already has his own beer mug, consider a personalized 5-piece Decanter Set that's ideal for the man who loves to entertain. What's more, this uniquely personalized set makes a timeless reminder of the groom's big day whenever he visits his groomsmen to share a drink and a few laughs.

is professionally engraved and can hold business cards and an executive pen. Executives on the rise will also love the personalized Executive Money Clip and Pen Knife Set, tailor made and personally engraved for the executive who's always on the move.

Embrace everyone's inner executive For older grooms whose groomsmen are all established businessmen, perhaps no gift will be more proudly displayed than a personalized Executive Silver Plated Card Case and Pen Set. A gift no rising corporate baron can resist, this unique set

edding Cakes

The multi-tiered cake that is a favorite wedding tradition that's often presented at the end of the night. The happy couple takes a slice and enjoys the first piece. In recent years, wedding cakes have become more of an artistic centerpiece than just a confectionary treat. Couples often seek out renowned wedding cake bakers for a cake that will amaze the crowd and complete the theme of the wedding. The average couple will spend between $700 to $800 for their wedding cake. Although many catering halls or reception sites will include the wedding cake in a package deal, many couples choose to order their cake from a specialty bakery who creates culinary masterpieces. If television trends are any indication, many people are opting to spend several hundred to thousands of dollars on a customized wedding cake. These fondant and buttercream creations may be elaborate in nature, so much so they'll likely need to be ordered several months in advance. Couples looking for something a bit different for their upcoming nuptials, many want to consider these trends in wedding cakes. • 3-D accents on the cake, such as graphic appliques. • A black-and-white motif that gives the cake a simplistic, yet trendy appeal. • A lot of bold color in the cake, instead of just white or ivory. • Dramatic monograms that can add class to the cake. • Painted cakes with edible food coloring paint that feature beautiful landscapes or a portrait. A work of art, they're both delicious to eat and fun to admire.

• Cakes that mirror the style of the wedding gown, including fondant ruffles and appliques. Many couples still opt for the traditional, and that is always in style. Instead of experimenting with the outside of the cake, couples can be creative with cake flavor and fillings. Imagine cutting open the cake to find red velvet or a chocolate ganache filling!

Ways to accessorize your wedding cake

1. Cake Toppers: Some are elegant; some are kitschy. Some are whimsical, some are caricatures and some play a favorite tune. Choose collectibles that later serve as sentimental token. 2. The Groom's Cake: Traditionally sliced up and sent home with guests in pretty boxes.

3. Cake Stands: Virtually anything can be used as a cake stand. Browse flea markets and estate sales for vintage plant stands, baker's racks and even bric-a-brac display shelves. 4. Cake Pedestals: Sweet, old-fashioned, and somehow always personal. A footed cake plate made of crystal, china, glass or silver-plate, or an antique or heirloom pedestal is a great choice for any style cake. 5. Cake Plate: Granite or glass, silver-plate or soapstone, the smooth-edged cake plate can be yet another one-of-a-kind addition to your one-of-a-kind cake. 6. Cake Table: Go crazy. Have your florist decorate your cake table with rose petals, fresh blooms, pillar candles, seasonal fruits, fragrant foliage like lemon or camellia leaves, or dozens of tea lights and votives. 7. Champagne Glasses: Champagne glasses will always add extra sparkle to your cake table. Wind ribbons, flowers or other beautiful embellishments around the stems. 8. Serving Set: They may be antique, heirloom or brand new -- depending on your wedding style. Many couples choose decorative serving sets, engraved with floral designs or the couple's new initials. www.knot.com

all the wedding bills have come due, don't fret. A less expensive getaway is still a getaway, and couples will enjoy their welldeserved break no matter where it is they're putting their feet up.

oneymoon Planning

With all the work that goes into planning a wedding, it can be easy for couples to overlook their own honeymoons. But in the middle of all those seating arrangements and reception hall negotiations, couples also need to plan and look forward to the rest and relaxation that awaits, which will no doubt be a welldeserved escape once the wedding has come and gone.

Things to think of: • Be budget-conscious. Many couples could enjoy a honeymoon to Siberia in the dead of winter after their big day has passed. After all the stress of planning and paying for the wedding, couples will likely just enjoy the time away. Take this into consideration when planning a honeymoon. If a dream trip isn't in the budget after

• Plan an off-season honeymoon. That dream honeymoon might be affordable after all if couples can wait till it's not the height of tourist season. Most weddings occur during the summer months, when tourist season is in full swing.Couples who can put off their honeymoon until the off-season will no doubt find their dream honeymoon is much more affordable. • Start early. It's never too early to start planning the honeymoon. The earlier couples begin to research possible destinations, the better feel they will have for what they can and can't afford. Research can be done well in advance to give couples an idea of what their dream trip will cost. But

15

don't book any flights or make any reservations too far in advance. The best deals are often available a few months before the trip. • Spread the news that you're newlyweds. Hotels love hosting newlyweds, and many will upgrade rooms for recently married guests. Couples should not be too brash about it, as fully booked hotels won't be able to upgrade their guests. But let the hotel know you're on your honeymoon when checking in, and they might just upgrade your room and comp you a bottle of champagne as a gift. •Think outside the box. When asked about a dream honeymoon, couples will often bring up Hawaii or even Paris. While those are beautiful places to spend a honeymoon, they're also expensive. Fortunately, there are a bevy of locales, be it domestic or international, that aren't nearly as pricey as the most popular honeymoon destinations but still make wonderful options for a honeymoon getaway couples won't soon forget.

hemed Weddings Creative or Campy?

Fairy tale wedding or modern twist? Many brides-and grooms-to-be have been thinking about their ideal wedding for years. Some may have strong ideas about wedding ideas, complete with scrapbooks featuring color schemes and wardrobe choices. Themed weddings have grown in popularity -- as couples want to do what they can to set their event apart from the scores of other weddings guests have attended. The key to themed weddings is to create a balance between tradition and elements that tie into the theme. This way the wedding is classy instead of over-thetop ... unless, however, over-the-top is what's desired. • Decide on your theme: Develop a clear idea of what you'd like the theme to be. Themes can range from

tie-ins to seasons to specific interests, such as sports or hobbies, to a particular color scheme. Once you have a firm concept of your theme, you can plan and shop around it.

tail that's reflective of your theme. • Rely on flowers and lighting: Flowers, foliage and other natural accents can add a special touch to your wedding. Nature provides so many different hued and shaped flowers that can work effortlessly into your theme.

• Introduce your theme with stationery: Your save-the-date cards or wedding invitations will present the theme to your guests, and could be the building block for the entire wedding.

Lighting is something couples often overlook. Use lighting to set the mood at the event. Changing the color or the scope of the lighting for different parts of your reception can create different moods.

• Keep it simple: A theme may be achieved simply with color. Draperies, flowers, seat covers, table linens, etc. in a frosty blue, silver or white will touch upon the feel of winter. There's no need to clutter up the space with nicknacks that make the theme overwhelming.

• Choose festive foods: Foods don't necessarily need to look like themed elements. However, you can touch on the theme by using seasonal foods such as winter squashes, hearty foods or seasonal fruits.

• Choose an accent: There may be one concept of your theme that you'd like to build upon. Think about subtle ways to incorporate the accent. Ask the venue to create a signature cock-

Creating a theme doesn't have to be ostentatious or evoke feelings of a kids' birthday party. Subtle touches that are cohesive will provide the desired mood.

eautiful Tresses

What bride doesn't want to be heads above the rest in terms of her wedding day 'do? The trouble is, many brides-to-be don't take adequate steps to ensure their wedding day tresses will be up to par, including doing a practice run and being confident with their stylists. While your hair may look picture-perfect in your mind, getting through the wedding day with hair intact takes some time and effort --and the planning process doesn't start a week before the wedding, either.

1. Start early Once you know your wedding date and have the venues booked, start shopping around for a stylist that you'll stick with through your wedding day. You want to make sure this person is in consistent charge of your look, tailoring haircuts and coloring appointments toward the end goal.

2. Set a schedule Certain hair tasks should occur at specific times. For example, your final color should be done at least two weeks before the wedding to allow for color blending. A final trim should be around the same time also so that your hair hasn't just been snipped. You'll want haircuts at regular intervals, even if you're growing

your hair out for the wedding to make sure it looks healthy.

3. Do your research

Browse through magazines and make a look book of styles you like. Discuss with your stylist if they will complement your facial structure, style, hair type, and wedding gown. Talk about the venue and what will be expected of your hair. If you'll be on the beach with blowing wind, a tight up-do might not be practical.

4. Have a hair rehearsal Schedule a rehearsal of your wedding day hairdo with your stylist after you come up with a look that's agreed upon. Not only will this help your stylist get his or her technique down pat, it'll enable the both of you to fine tune what works and what doesn't. You can also get a feel for your hair so there won't be any surprises once you are ready to walk down the aisle. Make sure to bring your veil with you and make-up your face so you'll get an accurate view of what will be the finished product. Take pictures from all angles to ensure that you're happy with the look from every direction. Remember, you'll be photographed coming and going, in action and at rest during the wedding.

5. Pack reinforcements Some brides opt to invite their stylist to the reception hall for a few touchups between venues. If this isn't an option, ask what products to bring along and how you can repair any minor flyaways, etc.

6. Put it in perspective Remember, just like everything that you're planning for your wedding, while you hope things go on without a hitch, there may be some snags along the way. Remain calm and go with the flow. Guests are more apt to remember the joyous tone of the day rather than minute details that could frazzle you --like an errant Bobby pin or a pull in your stockings.

Calling all newlyweds! We want you to share details from your big day with our readers. Was your wedding vintage glam or country rustic? A lavish party or a sim-

To submit your wedding for inclusion in next year's Hub Brides Guide and for viewing online go to www.kearneyhub.com and click on the Newlyweds link under Community to share details about your big day. Let us know how you and your honey met, the proposal, your wedding day inspiration, any special DIY projects, your favorite moments and other fun details. Be sure to include a list of regional vendors. Who knows? Your wedding could inspire the next big wedding trend.
