Catherine Brown appointed Chair at Hubbub Former Chief Executive of the Foods Standards Agency, Catherine Brown has been appointed as the new Chair of Trustees at environmental charity, Hubbub. Catherine brings a wealth of board experience at various charitable and food-based organisations as well as a deep understanding of the way that Hubbub operates, having sat on the Board of Trustees since 2017. Catherine takes on the position at a time when the need for rapid and transformative action to address significant environmental challenges has never been more apparent. Hubbub creates campaigns that make environmental action desirable, seeking to disrupt the status quo by raising awareness, nudging behaviour and reshaping systems. Catherine replaces Viki Cooke who served eight years as Chair. During Viki’s time on the Board, Hubbub has grown from a small start-up to being awarded Charity of the Year at the prestigious Charity Times Awards in 2020. Commenting on her appointment Catherine said: “Having been part of the Hubbub board for a while now, I am delighted to be appointed as Chair. I am very much looking forward to working with the whole team at Hubbub and our partners to build on the successes of the last few years and increase our impact even further. On behalf of everybody at Hubbub, I would like to pass on my thanks for the incredible work of former Chair, Viki Cooke, which has enabled the charity to grow into the established organisation it is today, raising awareness of so many important issues across the UK.” Viki will stay involved as a Hubbub Ambassador and said of her time as Chair: “I am immensely proud of all that Hubbub has achieved in the eight years of its existence, culminating in becoming Charity of the Year in 2020. It truly is an organisation that punches far above its weight. I am delighted to be handing over to Catherine who will successfully chair Hubbub into its next chapter.”
Moving forward into 2022 with Catherine as chair, Hubbub’s key ambitions are: • • • •
To rapidly expand the network of over 200 Community Fridges. This award-winning campaign freely redistributes perishable food that would otherwise have been wasted. To make unused smart phones and data freely available to 10,000 people who are currently digitally isolated, helping to cut e-waste and provide a lifeline to people needing support. To fight all forms of plastic pollution using drones and AI to cut littering, pioneer new approaches to promote reuse and expand Hubbub’s extensive recycling campaigns. To support communities in the fight against climate change including bringing nature to the heart of UK cities, encouraging changes in diets, boosting active travel and promoting the efficient use of energy at home.
Hubbub will continue to collaborate with a wide range of organisations, openly sharing results which will encourage others to benefit from lessons learned and campaign successes. For more information on Hubbub and its campaigns please visit https://www.hubbub.org.uk.

ABOUT HUBBUB Hubbub is an award-winning charity and social enterprise that inspires ways of living that are good for the environment - disrupting the status quo to raise awareness, nudge behaviours and shape systems. Their aim is to revolutionise communications with the public about environmental issues - using everyday language and good design to make environmental actions desirable and tapping into things people are passionate about such as food, fashion, homes and neighbourhoods. This innovative approach saw Hubbub win the Charity of the Year Award at the prestigious Charity Times Awards in 2020. Since its formation in 2014, Hubbub has delivered more than 60 trailblazing environmental campaigns in collaboration with over 700 partners, helping to shift the national debate on key environmental issues such as food waste, sustainable fashion, air pollution and recycling. Hubbub’s campaigns include #LeedsByExample which brought together 25 of the UK’s largest companies to boost recycling on the high street, a 3-year partnership with IKEA to create the world’s largest consumerfacing sustainability campaign ‘Live Lagom’ and creating a Network of 200 Community Fridges across the UK, each redistributing on average 2.4 tonnes of food every month that would otherwise have gone to waste. https://www.hubbub.org.uk/ Twitter: @hubbubuk Facebook: @HubbubUK Instagram: @helloHubbub LinkedIn: Hubbub-UK
