HE venue is where you will spend most of your time on your wedding day and you may even choose to get married there. Here are 21 questions you should bear in mind when looking for a venue to check that it is the right choice for you:
*Do they have a licence to perform wedding ceremonies? *What are the wedding packages? *Can these be changed and added to? *Is there a minimum hire fee for the venue? *Is it exclusively yours to use for the whole time? *Can they work to your budget? *Are there extra costs for the hire of tableware? *Does the venue has its own catering or does it recommend outside caterers?
*Are you able to bring in other caterers of your choice? *Can you do a taste test before hiring a caterer? *How many guests can the venue hold? *Is it easy to get to and what is the parking situation? *Does the venue offer guest accommodation and if not do they have a list of alternatives? *How late is the bar? Do you have to be finished by a certain time? *Is there a minimum amount that must be spent? *Can you bring your own wine? *Is there a music policy and do they supply a DJ? *Can you have a live band as your preference? *Can you use the grounds for photographs?? *Is there room for a marquee to accommodate guests? *Are you able to have fireworks to finish off the evening reception? Choosing the venue is one of the most important decisions for your wedding day.
The right choice for a lifetime of love
U
nlike a bridal gown, which is usually worn just once and spends the rest of its days gathering dust in the attic, a wedding ring must endure a lifetime and beyond - often becoming a treasured family heirloom passed from one generation to the next. Investing in a wedding ring is a big step but surprisingly many people often leave it until the 11th hour to choose their bands. The best advice is to put the wedding rings at the top of your list and always listen to advice from a high quality respected jeweller.. Designing your own wedding ring is increasingly popular as couples personalise their jewellery to make it more meaningful. As a result, many people are turning to professional jewellers for help. Skilled craftsmen are able to blend traditional techniques with the latest laser technology to create a dazzling range of jewellery including engagement and wedding rings. When creating a ring from scratch, the first thing to consider is what metal to use. Recently, the lighter shades of white gold and platinum have been fashionable as well as titanium which is stylish grey in colour. It is lighter than gold but just as hard-wearing as platinum with the added bonus of being less expensive. Classic round bands are always elegant but there are other profiles to choose from. You could go for a ring which is round on the inside and flat on top - known as a comfort fit - or a ring which is concave in the middle of the band. Increasingly popular are stone set wedding rings which are big news right now. A contemporary look is a plain band studded with inset diamonds. Lots of people these days opt for one band which doubles as both the engagement ring and wedding ring. Diamonds are a good choice because they are the most durable but people do opt for other stones.
A new fashion emerging is rings containing coloured diamonds and the coloured diamonds really stand out against white metals. An important factor in designing a wedding ring is to make sure it complements the engagement ring.

The centrepiece of any wedding
A
PART from the bride and groom, the wedding cake is the centrepiece of any wedding. Enjoyed and admired by all your guests, it creates a memory for their eyes as well as their taste buds. Your wedding day should be filled with wonderful memories, a day when you and your partner make the ultimate commitment shared with friends and family. A key part of the day is cutting the cake. Traditionally a sign of unison, as you hold the knife together and cut as one, your wedding cake is very much a personal choice usually incorporating your wedding colours and theme. A fruit cake with three tiered squares is no longer considered to be the norm. Novelty wedding cakes are becoming increasingly popular with over 40 per cent of couples opting for this fashionable alternative. There are plenty of tempting alternatives to choose from, including vanilla, chocolate and lemon sponge, passion cake and chocolate truffle cake. The idea is to create something a little different, making your day more personal and unique. By creating a bit of fun and stamping your personality on this important aspect of your day, you can really let your imagination flow, creating a wedding cake to remember. Single tier cakes are also becoming popular. With some couples travelling abroad to get married and then holding

a celebratory party on their return, one large cake is ideal. One of the latest trends is to create small individual cakes, tied with ribbon and decorated with an almond or sugar icing flower. They look lovely displayed in a tiered effect, using the colours chosen as your wedding theme. To ensure your colour theme matches your cake, don't forget to take swatches of material, ribbon or flower ideas when you visit your cake maker. Most wedding cake specialists have plenty of catalogues to leaf through, and are willing to adapt their cakes to suit your particular needs. Alternatively, draw a rough sketch; remember it's your day and that they are only too happy to help. * Visit two or three cake makers. Look at their portfolios and don't be afraid to ask questions. * Choose someone who listens to your thoughts and whose style suits your idea of the perfect cake. * Cake designers get booked up early so don't leave organising your cake until the last minute. Start making enquiries about eight months before your wedding date. * Make sure you stick to your budget. * Sample the cake yourself, to find out if it tastes as good as it looks!

NE of the main decisions to make when organising a wedding is the choice of flowers for the bridal party. The main decision, is of course, the colour! Today weddings generally have a colour theme which includes everything from the flowers and bridesmaid dresses to the choice of chair covers for the reception. As well as needing flowers for the bride and bridesmaids, you will also need to order matching buttonholes for the groom and his party. Also think about flowers for the church or service venue, and also table settings and decorations for the reception. Some brides opt for very traditional types and styles of flowers while other choose a contemporary look with exotic flowers sourced from around the world. All florists will work with a couple to make the most of their budget and ensure their flowers are one of the talking points of the whole day. Whether your design is simple or more elaborate, your flowers should look stunning and enhance the whole day. Book your flowers in good time as florists do get very busy with wedding bookings, particularly in summer.

VERY girl wants to look a million dollars on her wedding day. However there are lots of things to consider when making your choice. Wearability isn’t the only factor to consider when choosing your dress. It’s also a good idea to identify your skin tone so you know what colour will suit you and also to decide on a budget early on to save wasting time. Couture wedding dresses are in keeping with tradition and offer a twist to enhance a bride’s own individual style, but they come at a price and whilst many brides can afford to walk down the aisle in Vera Wang or Valentino, not everyone can. So, if a handmade dress isn’t an option, you can buy a designer off-the-peg dress and have it subtly customised. Alternatively, some stores offer stunning dresses at a reasonable price and the great thing about these, is that you can really dress them up with accessories. Choosing from the huge range of designs on offer may seem like a rather daunting task and although you may get lucky and find your fairytale outfit by trial and error, its always good to be aware of the styles and shapes that suit your figure. If you have hourglass curves, go for

strapless or off-the-shoulder dresses to accentuate them. If you are pear-shaped, opt for a dress that gives you volume on top and simplicity at the bottom. Draw attention to your top half by adding a shoulder wrap made of delicate feathers around your shoulders, or have silk flowers attached to the straps of your dress. If you are short and petite, try to avoid heavy fabrics and go for something more delicate like a
beautiful, netted princess style dress, shoestring straps or an off-the-shoulder, empire line dress. But most importantly, trust your gut reaction and act accordingly when searching for your perfect gown. Remember it's about you – not the dress. The most beautiful dress you see may not suit you.

ANGERINE, lemon, apricot, kiwi, mango and melon. It could be the recipe for fruit salad. Azure, aquamarine, amethyst, fuschia, lilac, petunia, rose and willow. Or maybe an exotic bouquet of jewels and blooms. These are some of the hottest colours in bridesmaid fashion this season. This year it's all about colour, from the palest pinks and baby blues to the most vibrant ends of their respective spectrums. Prints, plaids and embroidered flower details also feature heavily this season as do tiny French knots which are used to highlight skirts and add new dimension and texture to gowns. The crowning glory to your special day
O
N your wedding day, your hair needs to be your crowning glory, the finishing touch to your overall look. Make sure that you find a hairdresser that you can trust and feel comfortable with as well. Once these basic requirements are fulfilled, you'll find that everything else will fall into place. We all know the power of a good hair day – it can boost your confidence, make you walk tall and feel beautiful. So, it stands to reason that, when it comes to your wedding day, you want your hair to be beautiful. The key is to keep hair and make-up simple but elegant. Try to choose a style that both flatters your face shape and has the staying power to last all day. If you’re keen to try out a new style, have a word with your hairdresser and get him or her to run through some ideas and styles before you make a final decision. Should you put your hair up or leave it down? Do you want to be curly or straight? Do you want to wear flowers or a tiara in your hair?
a bow act as the perfect complement to spring and summer gowns -but opt for a flower in matching or complementary fabric to ensure it doesn't overpower your dress. While pretty details are sure to make a statement and vibrant shades are gaining ground and becoming more and more sophisticated, many brides will still prefer to stick with a simple, traditional look in beautiful neutrals like platinum or gold or classic colours such as claret. Brides wanting to 'do dark' - but not black, can choose rich chocolatey browns instead, although for real formal elegance, black is definitely the way to go. As well as being very flattering on the figure, the black bridesmaids' gown - particularly the fashionable newer and shorter variety, can easily make the transition to glamorous evening wear. When it comes down to dress design, comfort is
in and current bridesmaid fashions are very much inspired by the idea of ready-to-wear-ability and value for money, with designers succeeding in creating fabulous looks that have a distinctive place in the post bridesmaid wardrobe. A popular and practical alternative to the traditional bridesmaid dress is the two-piece ensemble. Not only does this enable bridesmaids to wear the top and skirt as separates after the wedding, it also gives the bride flexibility to mix and match tops and skirts to ensure each maid has an outfit that complements her figure. Halter-tops are also especially hot this season, but strapless and backless designs are still the most popular by far. Choose bridesmaid dresses carefully to enhance the whole bridal party.
Make sure mum is dressed to impress
O
NE of a mother's proudest moments is her daughter's wedding, and as she usually plays a huge part in organising the big day, she thoroughly deserves to look her beautiful best. Poor mum is usually so absorbed in making sure her little cherub looks a million dollars that she leaves her own outfit until last. But one thing's for sure - she won't be short of inspiration this season. There are lots of gorgeous collections around - so take this opportunity to go wild with the credit card and splurge! There are a few important points to consider when choosing a mother of the bride outfit. The overall look should be understated elegance without going over the top. On the day, mum should be the epitome of style whilst not detracting from the beauty of the bride. Firstly, decide on a colour scheme before hitting the shops. Mum must take her cue from her daughter and pick a shade which complements her gown and the bridesmaid's dresses. One of the most flattering options for the mother of the bride is a two or three-piece suit. A skirt with matching top and jacket or a dress with matching jacket will ensure she is beautifully co-ordinated. Alternatively, lots of women are opting for smart trouser suits. This season celebrates ultra smart sculptured tailoring and soft and flowing styles. Detail is really big news with lots of embroidery and beading embellishment. Whatever you choose, make sure it's something you feel totally comfortable in. Don't be swayed be anyone else. If you know that pomegranate really isn't your colour then stick to your guns. Make sure the shade of your outfit enhances your skin and hair tones. It's always advisable to consult with 'the other mother' before you take the plunge. Imagine the embarrassment if you both clash, or, heaven forbid, turn up in the same outfit!
CHOOSING THE PERFECT OUTFIT

Be open minded It is important that you consider every style, shape and colour available before deciding on what you think would suit you. It is also important that you use the experience offered by the shop assistants. Wedding Theme You need to know the style and theme of the wedding. Whether it be formal or informal, a church or beach wedding, casual or glamour, there are a variety of outfits available. Colour schemes are also important to consider. This will allow us to advise you on complimetary colours, tones and shading that will suit your skin tone, individual style and wedding theme, whilst also preventing you from standing out like a sore thumb. When to begin looking Shopping for the perfect outfit can begin as early or as late as you wish. Whatever your preference, we would recommend that you consider the following: ● Visit the major wedding fairs and read bridal magazines. Not only are these good places for wedding ideas, they can inform you of any current offers or sales that may be worth a look ● Should you buy your outfit at the last minute, ensure that there is a decent alterations servive provided. ● When you finally find your perfect outfit, bu it and then stop looking. Communication is the key If you are already beginning to search for your ideal mother of the bride outfit, you will probably know by now that communication is the key to organising the perfect wedding day. This also applies when shopping for the perfect outfit. Not only is it important to communicate your thoughts and ideas to the shop assistants whilst also listening to their advice, it is important to communicate with the groom’s mother. Knowing what each other has in mind with regards to colour, shape and style can be crucial in avoiding unsightly clashes or heaven forbid, wearing the same outfit. Not only do you have to consider what to wear, there are a variety of accessories to choose from to complete you outfit. The style and colour of your accessories is directly linked with your outfit and therefore, we advise that they are selected at the same time. No matter what your shape, size or style preference thare are a range of outfits available.

ever let it be said that men don't take as much pride in their appearance as women. So looking good on the big day is of as much importance to the groom as it is to the bride. The groom's dress might seem to be rooted simply in the traditional, but there is a lot more scope for men to put something of themselves into their wedding attire then you may at first think. Unlike the bride, grooms have much more freedom in terms of colour and modern takes on traditional styles. It is a good idea though to check with your bride before making a rather outlandish choice and a possibly life threatening decision! Traditional looks are common once again this year, but don't be afraid to try something a little bit different. Don't go overboard but perhaps look to alternative colours under the formal jacket. Sky blues, lilacs, oranges and lemons will give a lighter brighter look to the traditional garb, give a degree of originality, but retain the smartness that has underlined the groom's look throughout marital tradition. Remember that the groom and best-man should try not to wear anything too similar. Styles and colours that make you feel comfortable are most important. The traditional items grooms will be looking for include a dark or grey jacket, trousers to match, waistcoat and wing collared shirt plus either a bow-tie or a formal tie. Don't forget dress shoes plus any accessories such as cuff-links or a top-hat. Remember to be yourself and try to push your personality out through the formal wear. Maybe go for a stylish cut at the barbers, rather than a traditional look. Remember, this is your wedding day, not a job interview! You do need to look smart, but the suit will tend to that. You'll want to look as good as possible on your wedding snaps and feel as confident as possible as you stand before the congregation.
